What an epically cute place. It's the perfectly strange combination of a Whole Foods gone convenience store. Once inside take a quick turn to the left for any shopping needs from frozen pizzas, to instant oatmeal, and even herbal tea. They also carry a nice selection of beer and drinks. Walk straight forward to order some bites off the small menu. I had a couple breakfast tacos (2 was all I needed) and they were scrumptious. Plenty of well cooked scramble eggs embraced with some melted cheese and black refried beans. It was filling and not greasy. I'd feel good about any meal I had here. Cute, fun and delightful. Convenient and surprisingly tasty. I first fell in love with the QP out of convenience. It's a few blocks from my apartment, so I'd stop in for some wine, beer, or premade food. One fine day, my favorite taco spot was closed so I went here for some tacos and now they're all I can taco bout. THEIR TACOS ARE CRAZY good. Usually happy with the food and service here but today was awful. Ordered a salad and two sandwiches that came out after 45 mins. The sandwiches were missing ingredients as was the salad. When we asked for the goat cheese missing from the butternut squash sandwich, the barista handed us a small cup of pimento spread and maintained it was goat cheese. To top the whole experience off, the beer and cider tasted like soap. Either service/quality here has certainly declined or the cafe is having a bad day. She has better food than 7-11 (try the fish taco!), as well as a surprisingly large selection of beer (she must get this from Whole Foods). She sells gluten-free cookies for $3 each at the counter - must try: salted chocolate chunk. Very overpriced. But very delicious. I am completely gobsmacked by the way I was treated at Quickie Pickie today. As an East Austin resident, Quickie Pickie has been the go-to spot for last minute groceries, a bottle of wine, the basics, and they've always been awesome. My husband enjoys socializing with his buddies on the patio. What could be more warm & welcoming than that?! While meeting up with my husband tonight, I decided to grab a bottle of wine, pay the corkage fee and request 2 glasses (clearly intending for my husband to join me) when the cashier very rudely informed me that if I planned to take bottle off the premise that had to order food. Um, OK. I've enjoyed several bottles of wine on their patio without such a warning and certainly without such attitude, but whatever. Sat outside, wandered toward hubby, and there she was again demanding that I wasn't allowed to leave with the wine unless I ordered food. I pointed out that I'd had one glass and wasn't going anywhere-- chill out! Then came the "woah, what's with your attitude, I don't know what your problem is lady..." Anyone who knows me can tell you that I'm a very nice, tolerant girl. I'm kind to everyone, especially those in the service industry (been there, I totally feel ya). But being treated like that by some hipster chick with cheap glasses and a bad dye job, you can bet I'll trek the extra half mile to Bee Grocery. Nice knowing ya, Quickie Pickie. Okay, it's the east side, so of COURSE there are going to be hipsters galore. My favorite one was the guy wearing the American flag shirt with a GIANT pot-leaf on it. That said, how can you hold the clientele against the business? It's not like they're rude, they just smell and have a lot of tattoos. All that aside, the Quickie Pickie has a phenomenal bottled beer selection. I'd venture to say the best beer selection in East Austin and potentially, even, the best selection in Austin. It's better then you'll find at Specs, that's for sure. Besides the bottled beer selection, they have some very interesting snacks that you can pick up. Weird chocolates and candies among other things. They have a solid selection of craft beers on tap that are rotated on a regular basis. All beers are $5, which if you order correctly can be a good deal. Food was good as well and cost-effective. They have a good selection of sandwiches and salads. One beef was that our bartender/server did not seem to know the menu. Not helpful at all when trying to determine my beer or sammy order. Luckily, we did get several samples, which was helpful. I had the saltimbocca and have to say that this sandwich should be the bar for the term "Savory". Could very easily be served in a slightly larger portion on an openface as a main coarse. Savory simply means any dish that isn't primarily sweet. Between the slight smoky saltiness of the slow roasted pork, the spicy hints of the sweet pear chutney, the richness of the the melted Gruyere and the crunch of the toasted/pressed sweet roll you have a master piece. $9.00 of this sandwich is a fare price and worth it. If they skimped on the quality of ingredients, it would be a failure. The staff was relaxed and polite while still professional (not cold). I've decided to edit this review for two reasons: 1) Two different employees wrote to me expressing their sadness about the previous review, and while I don't necessarily agree with their responses, I didn't want the review to seem like a personal attack. It wasn't. I was being honest about the experiences I've had at the restaurant and I felt it was helpful to cite specific examples with employees. Regardless, it seems to have hurt people, and I don't want to do that. 2) It's the holidays! And I think 3 stars is actually more how I feel about QP, anyway. So, in brief: I've had very spotty customer service here, but ultimately I think almost everyone probably means well. As the earlier review mentioned, the people at Hillside Farmacy have always been much friendlier, and are very respectful of neighborhood residents. Selection is wonky. Great beer, weak staples, and very interesting and varied everything in between. If you're looking for basic groceries, this isn't your place, but if you're looking for a late night snack or gourmet treat, you're probably in luck. It is really fun to just browse the aisles here. Prices are a bit inflated. Register areas could be a bit clearer. Apple pie is delicious but often sold out. Breakfast tacos are meh. I wish they'd partnered with Purple Bean for sandwiches, but the ones I've had of theirs are decent. They've recently expanded hours, which is a yay! read more

How have I not left a Yelp review for one of my favorite neighborhood spots? This place feels like home away from home. Nice groceries to choose from, friendly staff who always seem happy to be there. Dog friendly, $3 beer during happy hour 4-6pm. Good food- I believe the kitchen stays open until 9pm. (fish tacos!) Dog friendly. Nice outdoor seating. The atmosphere is very laid back with a pleasant home vibe. Coffee! Good overhead music. Good wine selection. Quickie Pickie is a pretty good stop for craft beer and has a nice selection, but not the absolute best in town. One thing it's got up on most of its' competitors is that they allow you to break 6-packs and buy singles of anything in store, which is great and somewhat uncommon in town. They've got slightly expensive prices compared to other places in town, and on some of the rare, special release beers they can be significantly higher priced, but if that isn't a concern, it's a great stop for beer. I've not tried the food here so I can't comment on that, but the store seems clean and nice inside, and they also have 24 taps of mostly local, craft beer inside as well. You can even drink anything off the shelves for a $1 cap fee inside, which is cool. Nice stop for beer. read more

This might be a hot take, but the best tacos i had in all Austin were the Quickie Pickies Al Pastor's. Not to mention the great customer service and totally cool vibes from this place. Giant, overfilled breakfast tacos for $2.5. I had the vegan one and it was so amazing. Then I got the migas taco and wished the waitress had brought me hot sauce but I had my dog with me so I didn't get salsa. And that was a mistake. Migas need salsa, girl! Fortunately, I was already full from the first giant one, so I took it home and have since slathered that thing in beautiful salsa. The coffee is totally decent, not fabulous and not bad. Overpriced, though, especially since you're basically in a gas station. Not bad for a hip new place. I never think anything on the menu besides tacos sounds appealing, however. I love Quickie Pickie: its my neighborhood grocery store/biergarten/burger place/breakfast taco fix. Their beer is a little pricey and the veggie burger is a little bland, but they have like 20 taps with some pretty unique options. Their breakfast tacos are definitely solid and pretty large for the price. I got 2 and was stuffed from 10:30 to dinner! They also have a solid wine and beer collection along with some good cold 6 packs and whites in their fridges. Their lunch/dinner food in general seems to be a little lacking in flavor and consistency but its quick and ok priced for what you get. The desserts are definitely the secret/not so secret best part about this place. The cakes and pies I have tried have all been excellent. Not sure if they are made on site or brought in (not sure I want to know) but they are delicious. Last thing, the staff is friendly but not overly friendly. They are not super welcoming compared to some of the other places in Austin but will have a decent conversation with you if you just talk to them. read more

First time and probably the last. There are way better places for a fast meal and beer. Service wasn't that great. The man who took our order was preoccupied with casual conversation with a regular patron. He seemed like he could care less. There was a woman server who was working much harder than him, I wish she took our order instead and I hope she got our tip. The food was good. Nothing spectacular but no complaints. Ordered two vegan tacos and nacho appetizer. The beer selection was decent. The beer tasted rusty. My partner ordered a stout nitro which also tasted very rusty. The women's bathroom had a giant cockroach dead and stuck in the light fixture. Restroom was very gross. When I see a gross restroom, I can only imagine what their kitchen looks like (Hint: usually worse). Snacks and shelf items were a bit pricy. Beer was average priced. When we were wrapping up our beer and meal, we noticed the uninterested male server outside smoking a cig with patrons while the woman was inside with a line of customers. I feel sorry for her. Really, if they just stuck with a beer store, it probably would have worked out better. But if you are looking for something to eat, or anything else really, I would pass it on by. Last week I ordered to-go on the way home from my grandma's house. I stopped in to pick up my order, but I was faster than the kitchen. The clerk explained to me that they were a little busier than normal and my food would be just a few minutes longer. I told the clerk, Shyler (sp?), that I would be back bc I needed to run home to put away some frozen food that my grandma sent me home with (y'all know how grandmas are). This was my first try at Quickie Pickie. I heard that The Yippie with spicy roasted eggplant spread, house-made giardiniera + field greens on a Baked in Austin poppy seed roll was a must try. So, I tried it, and I was disappointed. It came with a dry, white roll instead of the promised poppy seed roll. It was also not a nutritionally balanced meal. Just because its vegan doesn't mean that it shouldn't be comprised of at least 10-35% protein. I would be willing to try Quickie Pickie again if they created a nutritionally balanced vegan meal using perhaps chickpeas, lentils, or seitan as a protein source. read more

I have been here a few times for both groceries and food. The service is always good and fairly quick. The staff have good knowledge on the beer selection and are happy to answer any questions you may have. The grocery items are pricy but i guess that is expected for a "convenience store". I would only buy items there if I really needed them right then and there. I ordered a sandwich the time I had food. It was the one with roast beef and mustard. So, let me start off by saying, I'm hesitant to write this review because I am not a fan of waiting in lines so the less people that realize that this gem exists the better. However, because I really like the management and the people that work there, I felt it necessary to share what a great place this is. Up until last week, QP was my favorite place to go to buy beer. They have an incredible selection and are always out hustling to get something new and exciting in stock. On top of that they have 27 beers on tap that are constantly rotating. From week to week they could trade out upwards of 60-70% of their beers. It is really nice to be able to try a new, high-quality beer almost every time I come in... which is all the time. But as of last week they started serving tacos, and they are awesome!! I recommend the pastor taco and the teriyaki taco. They are very unique and delicious. Also, they have a great happy hour and pint nights offer some incredible deals on beer from great breweries. The best part of this operation is the staff. Almost everyone that works here loves beer and can help guide you through the selection process. Also, they are very friendly and welcoming. There may be a hipster "look" to the place, but there certainly is none of that trademark hipster arrogance and condescension. read more

This place is fantastic! The beer/ wine selection is robust, and the addition of beer on tap is a total plus. The grocery section is a little light, but the store isn't that large and they're making the most with the space they have. I'm a huge fan of sandwiches (that sounds so ridiculous) and this place has a nice selection of made to order deli sandwiches. They're not your typical northeast deli sandwiches, but they're still pretty good and worth a pop in on a lunch break. The vibe and style of the store and the patio is very hip and inviting. It's a great place to meet up with friends, share a few beers and talk about nonsense (or whatever you like talking about). The employees are helpful and nice and seem to really care about what they're doing. When I tried to order the guy on the phone acted like what I was saying was crazy. He then told me to go to YELP for the correct menu, which we did and called back....again he acted like what we were ordering was crazy and said they didn't have any of it. Walking into Quickie Pickie instantly overwhelmed me. Do I want to eat or do I want to look at the vast selection of brewed beverages? I was hungry and in search for dinner so I went for the former. I thought the layout and the layout of the menu was a bit confusing: why not make the entire menu available full-time or clearly mark what's lunch and dinner? I however liked the selections available: a pasta dish and the apparently popular early bird - a roasted chicken with potatoes au gratin and ratatouille. My friend Mark was telling me about this place. I was snooping around on Restaurant.com and discovered a gift certificates. One afternoon i was taking Samuel to the dog park and Mark came to meet up with. Afterwards we were thinking where are we going to go for some food and drinks where Samuel is welcome. Duh! After consider other places we decided on Quickie Pickie. I like what someone else said in their review "It's Whole Foods meets 7/11." The place is cute. There's sundries available, a small prepackaged food section, plenty of beer and wine. There's also a counter where they serve beer on tap and wine as well as some prepared food items. The food selection is very limited and I was having a hard time deciding what to get. We ordered a ton of tacos to share and taste. Man I should have written this review right after because I'm having a hard time remember the tacos we got. I think it was fish, shrimp, pastor or carnitas, chicken, teriyaki (I can't remember if it was beef or chicken.) My favorite was the pastor/carnitas. Pork was cooked nicely, flavorful and there were small bits of pineapple. Oh and let's not forget that they carry cupcakes from Skull and Cakebones. Who knew vegan cupcakes could taste so good! We had a couple of beers and ciders. My favorite beverage of the evening was a cider that was from the northwest. It was just dry enough and wasn't too sweet.
