The Cesar Chavez location.....do NOT recommend. Just came back from lunch. First time in. Two rude hipster employees, bored with their job and me....Had a turkey sandwich which was awful. Hard 6 inch baguette with uncooked grisly meat, huge glob of mayonnaise, no chips or pickle, very small glass of tea/all ice came to $10.56. He was very irritated when I had to ask for sweetener and condiments, and then when I asked for a refill while leaving, he was busy counting his money; he said he was going to charge me $1.75. Quickie Pickie is a "convenience store" with some food service - handmade sandwiches and breakfast tacos. There is also a small bar with several craft beer taps. Everything is clean, and the staff is friendly and hip. I don't know that I would do a lot of grocery shopping here. The stock is whole-foods type organic and expensive. Likely shoppers are the condo and apartment dwellers who live in the new East-side developments who need a last minute jar of peanut butter. But the bar is great. Bright, well-designed, and welcoming; if you are looking for a good morning or daytime spot on the East side where you can chill and read a paper over a pint - this is it. read more

I come here often because I work on 11th street. It's obvious that most people do not eat here because their food is amazing. It's out of convenience. Everywhere else on 11th (hillside pharmacy, blue dahlia, franklins) are the similarly priced or more expensive and have more of a sit-down vibe. Options for lunch aren't plentiful. That being said, their food isn't horrible. It's just okay. Anyone can make anything on their menu for a quarter of the price- but again, convenience. The atmosphere is cool and their beer selection is great. But their cold brew is super bitter and sandwiches dry. If you have longer than an hour lunch, skip this place. read more

Coffee service and grab and go prepackaged items are decent. Came for lunch and the hash with chorizo was served luke warm, at best, with no chorizo. We asked for a side of chorizo and waited for over 15 minutes and it never came and no one checked in with us. Would come back for coffee only but not lunch. read more

Excellent food. Great beer selection. I have 2 problems with this place: 1. A certain staff member thinks that he is "too cool" for everything at Quickie Pickie and is very short with customers. Also, I have heard him openly talking shit about customers as they enter the place. 2. and this is a biggie... HAVE ONE PERSON TAKE THE ORDER AND ANOTHER PERSON MAKE THE COFFEE. I have never worked at a coffee shop, but it does't take a genius to figure this out. Sometimes I walk in and there is a line almost out the fucking door. For God's sake, hire more people. read more

This is a cool little place. Food from the counter is pretty good, even if a little simple. The employees are super nice and happy and helpful. Although, I have one huge problem with the food. I ordered an avocado breakfast taco. It says on the menu that it has avocado, beans, and cojita cheese. Although, they add one ingredient that's not on the menu! And that ingredient was cilantro! I don't know if the fine people at Quickie Pickie know, but cilantro tastes, to not just a few people, like soap and it ruins the whole taco! I tried to pick it off, but they put a whole fistful of the stuff on and it got all in the beans and mixed up with the cheese, rendering it totally inedible. If you wanna put that sh*t on your tacos, make sure to also have it on your menu so people like me can ask for it without!!! read more

The liquor store across the street doesn't sell "good" cigarettes (Ironic, I know), but at least you can stop into Quickie Pickie, have a pint, shop for some awesome chocolate, pick up a breakfast taco, hot sandwich, get a salad to go, buy beer, pick up a pack of American Spirits, and be on your way. Thank god something besides "Hipster Farmacy" which has terrible service, and Blue Dalia (also really terrible service), has opened on East 11th. Overstuffed tacos with real cheddar cheese. They chop the very crispy bacon into the egg to make it almost a scramble. They are unbelievably delicious! Worth every penny due to the amount you get in a taco. I love how someone thought $3+ was pricey. I haven't gotten a taco for less than that in years. Go. Enjoy. After reading some of the bad reviews, I feel like I'm in some alternate universe. Geez people! Angry much? Some people will never Be happy and seem to take it out on wonderful new businesses that are so very much needed. Anyways, here is my experience: I work right down the street and sometimes I am in a pinch for something to eat. Well, as much as I love many of the restaurants nearby, they are expensive for a quick bite. I usually spend $20 at least for lunch, that is usually really heavy, great quality, but not what I want midday. So once my coworker told me about this place I had to check it out. And today was the perfect day to do so. I was in a hurry so walked right up to order, glanced at the menu and the lady helping me was so insightful. I am "mostly" vegetarian (a bad vegetarian). sometimes when I order a veg sandwich it is so disappointing and usually an afterthought on the menu of the side ingredients used the main sandwiches. Well, this place offered several main veg sandwiches. So I had the one with eggplant. Oh*My*Heavens! Every bit was so delightful. From the chewy bread sprinkled with poppy seeds, to the smorgasbord of delightful fresh Veggie selection (was that pickled cauliflower?) wow!!! I was in heaven. And it was spicy, oh that just made my day. And the iced tea had lavender and lemon in it. So so good! I took my sandwich to go, took less than 5 minutes to get in and out, spent less than $10 and was a very happy camper. I loved the environment and everyone was incredibly friendly. Can't wait to take my husband here for a beer! Oh and precious patio covered in sunflowers? Well, some kind of cute yellow flower. Shady and tempting to just hang out, even in this heat. This is the second time that I have been in there with my service dog and the guy behind the counter say "Your dog isn't allowed in here" I guess the roboboot and the cane were not an indication of me being a cripple but hey... Anyway, I asked Fo a Big Chz and the guy starts ringing it up as he tells me that they are out of pimento cheese and instead it will be a grilled cheese sandwich. I then retorted with "No I don't want a grilled cheese sandwich that is not even the same thing" then I ordered a rotisserie chicken like I had a thousand times before and then he goes to say "Yeah, we don't do that anymore" even though there is a huge sign that say "Rotisserie Chicken" above his head. Quickie Pickie has become my main hangout on the east side. I love the bacon breakfast tacos (queso fresco instead of cheddar makes them extra good), the coffee, the chicken salad in the prep case, beet salad, and lots of snacks. Good, consistent wifi, and outdoor seating is great now that it is cooling down. They carry Misty Morning gluten free stuff - cookies, biscotti, and bread. It's hearty and delicious. read more

This placed was just re-booted in May 2013 as a cafe with beer/wine/grocery. There is food, beer/wine, and coffee. (Reviews older than that are for the old convenience store, which is pretty much gone except for the friendly owner Zahir.) The bar has 27 beer taps, a rose' on tap. The grocery area is mostly beer and wine, with a lot of organic, natural, local, and imported foods. They have a good cider selection (I counted 15 - and even a cider on tap which is nice to find) and good set of gluten-free foods. The cafe food is very well prepared and includes take-away or eat in options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are dining tables inside and outside on the shaded patio, and a bar inside as well as a counter inside along the windows. The place is air conditioned. I've had a few dinner options and breakfast tacos several times, prepared with obvious care by kitchen staff that work like consummate professionals in the gleaming new kitchen in full view of patrons. read more

I've only been to this location twice. While the store is super cute and staff is so friendly. I've had a really bad experience both times. The first time I ordered a breakfast taco with no tortilla in a bowl. It took a while to make because there was a line. Got my latte quick. Finally grabbed my bowl and left. When I got to work I was so hungry and couldn't wait to open it and eat. To my surprise when I opened it, it was soup! Wow! What a waste is money. I didn't call them or anything because what could they do? I was all the way in north Austin and not going to drive back. This was about 3 months ago. Then yesterday I was passing by and thought let me give them a 2nd chance. I'm hungry. Went in no line. Ordered a chai and brisket breakfast taco. Got to work. It was a bean, egg, and spinach taco. No meat. Again disappointed. I didn't call again. Won't be going back. If you can't get the customer orders right how do you operate your business? So sad. Great store and friendly staff for sure. Quickie Pickie is kind of Whole Foods meets 7/11. It's bizarre. People come here to drink (local beer on tap), to dine with friends, to do what appears to be homework on their computers (questionable choice), or, if you're me, to get gourmet ice cream without driving to Whole Foods/ Wheatsville/ some permutation thereof. Quickie Pickie offers this convenience to the East Side, but not without a price. It tends to be expensive. My gripe about high prices being said, this is a great little neighborhood resource in terms of a place that fosters community in a cafe culture kind of way, and also in terms of, to repeat, convenience. Their selection far surpasses that of in.gredients (who, bless their farmer hearts, sell pickles, bulk foods, milled soaps, kimchi, local gourmet ice creams, and 25 dollar hipster neo-agriculture-art magazines). Another one-up Quickie Pickie has on in.gredients is that Quickie Pickie sells coffee drinks. (Why anyone would decide not to sell coffee at their establishment is an issue whose answer I refuse to comprehend. Unforgivable.) If I'm sick, I can actually get some ibuprofen at Quickie Pickie, I can get some chicken broth, cough drops, echinacea, kombucha, a hard apple cider...everything I need to treat my cold that I don't have energy to drive any further to obtain. It really is a very nice little one-stop shop. It is super hip, bright, graphic colors painted inside. You will feel young. You will overhear conversations about Google Glass. Their food is delicious. While I have chaffed at the extreme price of their three dollar, individually wrapped chocolate chip cookies (and felt deep shame for going through with the purchase), I have also partaken of their four dollar "Country Sausage" taco, which did bring me back to my more rural roots (tastes like North Dakota), and was divine. I love El Chilito, let it be known, but I may start coming more to Quickie Pickie on odd days to get my taco fix, on all those many regrettable nights of the week that I'm too exhausted or irresponsible to cook.
