This place is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. You walk in and there is only about 8 bar stool seats. They encourage take out. But, if you're lucky and get a seat, you also get a show. The employees cooking have it down to a science and work like a well oiled machine. I got the Phad kee mao and it was awesome. I will be back for more! read more

Fan. Tastic. Food. This is a tiny place in downtown Mount Vernon that looks like an old 1950s diner. It's family-run, and they've always been super friendly. It's really crowded at lunch time, so plan accordingly. I have tried several dishes from here, and when you ask them for 5 star spice, they really mean it. Word to the wise, do NOT get 4-5 stars if you can't handle the heat. 2 stars here is like 5 stars everywhere else. I have always gotten take out, and dishes have ranged from noodles to curries. They're truly delicious and portions for take out are enormous. I can usually get 3 meals out of them. I love the pad key mow - the veggies are always just crunchy enough and the sauce is yummy. They make a delicious pad thai, too. While I've had better curry elsewhere, it's definitely good on a cold winter day - it will warm you right up! read more

Classic HITW! Tiny-8counter seats. You wait at the door to come forward and place your order, then hopefully by the time the order comes, a chair has cleared. And as you wait, they are doing a brisk take-out business. Clearly a hometown favorite because the owner spoke to many people arriving to pick up food by name. They had 4 people working in the tiniest of spaces. And are they turning out the food! A co-worker and I stopped here after a training on the recommendation of the people we were working with and who live in Mount Vernon. It's one of those places you would never find on your own. I am not a Thai food fan (my co-worker is) so I selected something I thought I would least dis-like and settled on the Phad kee mao with tofu. My friend went with Tom Yum noodles. Mine was amazing; first Thai food I've ever really thought was good. And generous portion. My friend let me try her soup and it was amazing. The broth was fabulous. First time I tried to order take out i gave up as I couldn't get thru to them. 2nd time we were in the area so stopped by. 30 minute wait turned to 40 for an order placed at about 5pm. The spicy food warning is real so do heed it. Lots of vegetables in all the dishes we ordered but the amount of meat was rather low.. I know that cost considerations during Covid are a real pressure but the beef was so rare (quantity wise) I wondered if it wouldn't have been better to order it with no meat. I finally managed to find time to pay this place a visit since they are only open on the weekdays. Street parking was limited but there was a large parking lot behind the establishment, all free. The wait was long since seating inside was very scarce. Even after I was seated, I had to wait another twenty minutes as the chefs cooked the takeout orders right in front of me (that was hard to watch). I had the summer rolls and a pad kee mao steak. For the price, the food was good but not spectacular. The ingredients were fresh and the portions generous. However, the pad kee mao and the sauce for the summer rolls were a bit too salty. So good and so spicy! I love spicy food but always underwhelmed when ordering 5 star spicy at other joints. Rachawadee 5 star is perfect for me, though I still end up adding a little chili flake. Only one other place outside of Thailand has truly understood "Thai spicy" or "pet mak." This spot is an exception. When I told my server that a Western "5" was usually a "1" on my heat scale, she suggested 3.5, they were right. Still doable for someone like myself, whose heat preferences range toward the ghost pepper end of the scale, but finally hot enough for my palate. But I suspect even the heat-wary would enjoy the flavors here, as long as you choose 1/2-1 stars! read more
