This restaurant seems like an anachronism in Southern California's fast-food landscape. And it's probably more correct to call it a burger stand than a restaurant. It has two drive thru lanes, a walk up window, and outdoor seating only. I can't help but make the comparison to In-N-Out, some of whose restaurants have a similar layout. However, In-N-Out, which markets its retro-cool factor, stopped building these burger-stand type restaurants a long, long time ago opting for the more modern layout with multiple registers and indoor seating. Also coming apparently from an earlier era is Rally's menu. It's not quite so old as the two-drive-thru layout but it does seem to be from a decade or so ago before fast-food restaurants were sued for making people fat, before the chains tried to distance themselves from the unhealthy connotations of fast-food, back when KFC was still called Kentucky Fried Chicken, back when Jared was still morbidly obese, and around the time when Jack was being promoted from a figure on a logo to the CEO of a multinational fast-food chain. In those days it was impossible to find the nutritional content of fast foods and the mantra of fast-food chains seemed to be bigger, fattier, saltier. It was a good time for people for whom large wasn't large enough as "super-size" had recently entered into the American lexicon. Yes, the menu seems to come from that period. Damn near everything on the menu comes with at least two meat patties and two slices of cheese. And I'm not talking about the kind of dinky patties you find on the Big Mac. I'm talking big, thick patties. The burgers are drenched in sauce and half of them come with bacon. There's nothing on the menu that even pretends to be the least bit healthy. You won't find no chicken ciabatta or apple slices here. The fries are well-seasoned, and very good. But unless you're feeling extra ballsy, I don't recommend the fully-loaded fries. They're just like the regular seasoned fries, except they come under a thick blanket of cheese, ranch sauce, and bacon bits. It's the sort of thing you'd pick at over the course of a two hour sports game with friends, not the sort of thing a single person should eat in a single sitting, like I did. I swear, it's the bacon bits that put it over the top. It's so salty that after those fries alone, I felt like I'd gotten enough sodium to satisfy the RDA for the at least the next week. And oddly enough, it's the whole racing theme and Nascar cross-promotion that brings it all together and explains why Rally's seems so out of place in Southern California. Rally's, it seems, was never intended for Southern Californians for whom Nascar is about as mythical as Zeus. Rally's is for Americans with beer bellies wearing trucker hats in middle America where the health bug hasn't bit. Rally's, unsurprisingly, was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1985, according to their website. And thank god for those middle Americans for clinging to the unhealthiest of all Americana. Even if it may require a triple bypass, Rally's serves up a damn good meal. You'd better enjoy it while you can because it's exactly this kind of food that may one day be served with a Surgeon General's warning. read more

I don't care that this place is small and run down. This place has one of the best fries you'll find anywhere short of restaurant chains. Their thick cut, fresh, crispy, and hot from the fryer. Help yourself to their seasoning and you've got yourself a delicious order of seasoned fries for like $2. Pretty sure all the local high school kids come here for their fries fix too. Now it was midnight and my favorite chile chesse dog place was closed so i went to Rally's. I love rallys. Their french fries are the bomb. I'm only a couple blocks away from this fastfood chain. I usually go here when they mail me coupons; It's very cheap and affordable. Their dessert are also very good. Come try it out, although it's true what the reviewers say. This place is very shady at night time. Homeless always come by and ask for change, crazy people just wandering around. If you do stop by rallys at this location just make sure to order in the day time or just go to the drive thru. Been going to this location many years but tonight I had the worst experience ever. The person that was taking my order wasn't very professional at his position and for that reason why it's because every time I say something he would reply with "aight" and plus he gave me a bbq burger when I ask for a baconzilla.
