With so many different ramen joints opening up, sometimes you just want "ramen". Nowadays there are different kinds of noodles offered by these new places but what Yukinoya offers is the standard noodle from the good ol' days. The type of ramen noodles served here are wavy, like it's been permed, and yellow, bordering on yuzu rind territory. They've got that eggy kind of vibe going on, taste-wise; and what's nice is the noodle jockeys cook the ramen to a perfect katamen (al dente). The broths seem all tonkotsu based as both our shio and shoyu broths both had that cloudy richness happening without being overly heavy. The noodles and broth complimented each other very nicely. The service was nice and attentive even though there were only two servers handling the small, cozy dining room. If I had one complaint and it's not even a complaint-- more like a wishlist bullet point-- is I wish they served beer. I have to admit if a ramen place doesn't serve beer then a little part of me deflates a little. If a ramen restaurant's menu is legit, then a lot of the appetizers offered scream out a banshee-like wail for a frosty mug of Japanese lager. Other than that, Yukinoya is a solid place to scratch that ramen itch. With all the different ramen joints opening up, it's nice to go back to the mind of ramen noodles we grew up eating. So glad I came. Work pays for my lunch on Fridays. A fellow yelper posted this place so I figured I'd try it next time I'm in the area. And I'm glad I did. I came to Ramen Yukinoya many years ago and I just remember their ramen being really good and I wanted to try it again to relive that experience. I believed that this time around, they really nailed it as well. Everything about the Tonkatsu ramen was yummy. One little thing that I didn't really like was how salty it was, but other than that, they really do make a good bowl of ramen. It was piping hot when I got it, their noodles were perfectly al dente, the pork was tender, and their toppings were abundant. It was perfect for a cold day outside and it warmed me right up! As soon as you are seated, you can easily order and customize your food, using their touch screen system. once sent to the kitchen, you are still greeted by the wait staff with water and whatever you need. Ramen is pretty decent and we love the combination with the fried rice. The menu has limited choices which simplifies dinner. They make things just easier. If you are doing a to go order, simply use the tall kiosk and self order. Despite the use of touch screens, the wait staff is still personable and will assist you with any of your needs like any other restaurant. My family and I love Ramen Yukinoya. We have been coming for years. The food is always good, our go to is tan tan noodles and chicken karage. More recently, one of the servers suggested the vege noodles and omgurrrrrr it was so good. The carnivore in me still needed meat, so we ordered a side of torched char-shiu pork belly and it was chef's kiss. Can't skip the chicken karage because it always comes out blazin hot where we 99.9% burn ourselves. Now that's fresh. One main reason we come, other than the food, is the amazing hospitality. The waiters are always serving in a gentle yet caring manner to where it's the perfect touch not annoying. My family recently agreed that this is definitely one of the reasons we come back because when service is good it makes us feel comfortable to sit and eat. I've been coming to this spot for ramen for at least 6+ years now and I've failed to find a better Tan Tan Men ramen anywhere else, they are #1. This is my go-to ramen spot whenever I'm in the SGV area. Parking is easy, which is a huge plus. I've tried several ramen places nearby, but this one stands out--especially recently. Tried this place 2 times (one time to-go and one time dine-in) and I would have to say it definitely tasted better dining in. Got the tonkutsu the first time and it wasn't bad, but since all the ingredients came separately to-go, you had to heat up the soup separately and mix it in with the rest of the ingredients and for some reason just didn't really taste all that fresh. Also, the broth just felt really heavy that I couldn't finish the whole thing without feeling bloated. The second time coming dine-in, I saw that the Shio utilized a light, clear broth which I opted for instead, and I would say that it was a significant improvement in heaviness of the broth. It probably helped that eating dine-in, there was no prep work on my end and I got to eat everything freshly made. Some things to note though. SEATING: the place is pretty small. I've always noticed that this was the busiest restaurant in the plaza with lots of people waiting outside, but realized there really isn't much seating inside (just a couple tables and a narrow bar). Luckily we came at a random time in the middle of the day and didn't wait too long, but I expect there to be a wait at peak hours. At least the turnover rate of tables is pretty quick. PARKING: has a pretty big lot that is shared by an Aldis, CVS, and some other restaurants. Definitely would say this is one of the more popular restaurants though. Still had to circle around the lot a couple times before we were able to find a spot though. The Okinawa chasu was tender and juicy, and it had a sweet taste that perfectly balances the savoriness of the broth. I ordered the regular size, which was $12, but next time I think it is worth it to order the large for a dollar more. The establishment was a bit small and the tables had a sticky feeling on it which was not ideal. The service was great, the workers were all really nice. It was a pleasant experience with great food. I always get the same item in everybody ramen place: tonkotsu ramen with corn and gyoza. I always try the broth first, and this one was very good. The chashu pork was soft and delicate, and the "men" (noodles) and a nice texture and flavor. Plenty of parking in the lot. It was a bit crammed and air was cold inside. And the radio music that was playing was a bit annoying. I feel they can pick something different to play, at least not radio music. Despite the egg, I would come back.
