We were disappointed tonight to say the least. I was hoping to get some dinner and we didn't even get to that point. We checked in with the hostess this evening and 3 and a high chair and we're told " it's just going to be a couple minutes". We sat and waited, and waited, and waited. After 30 minutes on a slow night and watching people go quickly from the front door straight to a table (tables of 2, 4, 11, 2) i went to the hostess who stated "i was hoping that that table there would leave to seat y'all but they haven't". Apparently because we needed a high chair, we needed different accommodations compared to other people including A GROUP OF 11. I'm sorry Ransoms but we won't be back. Tonight was not a great showing, the crispy fried fish was quite enjoyable, but the steak fries were Ore-Ida and the macaroni and cheese was creamy but nearly flavorless. I'm reluctant to be too harsh without acknowledging that clearly I was not in their sweet spot tonight. I did not order a steak, and I did not order dessert. Based on available data, I'm going to call this on par with other low-end chain steak places, like Longhorn or Saltgrass. The only reason I am giving this place two stars was because of our bartender. My husband ordered the cfs which was more breading than it was meat. He ordered the mash potatoes and Mac n cheese to go along with it. Everything came out cold. Like cold cold. I ordered the hamburger steak green beans and mashed potatoes... once again cold. I can totally see going for the live music and drinks, but the food was absolutely nothing to write home about. All dolled up, we arrived Saturday evening (a bit overdressed for the establishment, perhaps) in full anticipation of a delicious steak dinner (and more). What we got, left much to be desired. A cold and tough steak; a grayed-out, chewy cube steak meant to pass as chicken fried steak with cold gravy; overcooked salmon; cold fries; cold mashed potatoes; a lack of overall seasoning on every dish (perhaps salt was only allowed on the dining table and not in the kitchen); and a bowl of cold, tasteless green beans. The best part of the evening was the $3.50 Ziegenbock and the passable mac 'n cheese (which likely would have been much better warm - do you see a theme here?). Needless to say, unless it's happy hour, we'll be driving right by Ransom's in search of a hot meal; there's a Taco Bell not that far that would have topped this dining experience. read more

Ok this was truly strange... We ordered then we're left sitting about 25 mins with our Texas tea looking at the menu. Busy Saturday night, server being trained, ok I love this place so I wait patiently. Server comes back without trainer and we give her the whole order just grateful to have her attention. My husband says he just got off work and this joker leans down in my husband's face and clasps his hands together and says "I really don't believe that" Please imagine my husband is 6'4" and 300 lbs and hates the crap out of going to work and just got off his shift at 4pm. Btw neither of us had been drinking We were not carded before being served the first round I thought my husband was going to punch this guy in the face but his willpower prevailed hail Satan. So I gather myself and just say "ok please cancel our food we will pay for these drinks and leave" LITERLALLY LESS THAN ONE MINUTE after we spoke our order to the other girl he says "im im so I can't do that it's already in the kitchen..." This was our third visit here. this time we brought friends whom have never been here. this will be our last. After raving to my friends, I was embarrassed we brought them here. When we asked our waiter what the specials were. he pointed at a paper menu and said they are there. My husband asked what beers they had, also referred to paper. my husband asked if they had modelo, he said no. my husband said it's on your menu. he responds oh I thought you meant draft. When the bill arrived, the Mac and cheese was added, 2.99. I asked the waiter why this was on the bill if he can remove that. he said no it's not an error, and that she took a bite of the sweet corn. That was it. I said I'm not paying for that and please take it off. Off to the side I spoke to the manager. and she did nothing. the waiter did come back and apologize and that was great. I just expect great service at a steak house. I would expect a waiter to tell us the specials, not point to menu. I'd expect him or her to know what beers were available, not point to a menu. She was bubbly, friendly and gave us great service. The food was absolutely delicious, hot from the kitchen and the homemade bread was out of this world. I am sure we will be back. I have read many reviews on your restaurant, and most were not that favorable. I believe in always giving folks a second chance. Sometimes, things just don't always go great. I spent years managing restaurants and it just happens. However, as a manager, you do what you have to keep your customers coming back. I read that you use to have live music but don't anymore. That can make a huge difference for folks if it isn't too terribly loud, but people like the entertainment and it makes a great date night for people. If nothing else, karaoke would be wonderful. Then they would not allow a senior (over 65) to get a child's meal even though we told them that she can't eat all of a regular meal. We were told, "We recommend that you eat what you can and take the rest home." Yes, the MANAGER said that to us. She also said, "You are welcome to get an appetizer as they are smaller proportions ." Any place that has a full parking lot and is packed inside on a Wednesday nite has to be good....and that is the truth. First off I swear we walked in with Wild Bill Hickok himself. It it wasn't him then it was the same guy featured on the cover of their menu. Yes this place is Texas from the decor (deer antlers to tin ceiling) to the Texas drawl of our hostess. ...I am from Texas so I know! They started us out with rolls and some of the best creamy honey butter this side of the Pecos. Try not to fill up on them. Next I had the Ocean Sampler (an appetizer ordered as my entree) with a loaded baked potato as the side. This is 2 stuffed shrimp, 2 bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp and 2 fried shrimp. It was awesome. The loaded baked potato was real! Real chives, real cheese, real butter, real bacon. Also we had the Fried Catfish, with okra, and steak fries. My date gave it a 4 out of 5. He said it was great except he likes his catfish "fluffy"...what ever that means. The service was great, fast and attentive. Even the manager came by to check on us. We will be back! read more

Sorry-Can't recommend this place. I just finished my 12 oz dry aged ribeye steak- or the 6 ounce part of it that was NOT left on the plate in the form of grizzle. I came in very late minutes just before the kitchen closed. I left half the steak (all grizzle) in the plate . Usually I would send a sad looking steak like this back to the kitchen . It was late so I didn't say or complain as I was so hungry . I think I was the very last order just before they turned the grill off. I think their Mac n cheese is amazing -but they need to work in their steak cuts and quality. During my extensive travels I've have the pleasure of eating at some of the very best steakhouses in the USA . I have a whole lot of past experiences to compare Ransom's against. They just don't cut it when compared to other offerings in the Houston region.sorry guys- I rarely give a sour review but Ransoms deserved it. Their dry aged steak simply doesn't stack up against the many others I've had. Read my other reviews and you will see what a proper steak should be. I confess my usual go to cuts are almost always Porterhouse (T-bone) and Filet Mignon . So perhaps my review is influenced by this- but I have had other dry aged steaks that was so much better. The best thing about this place was the amazing service provided to me by my waiter Gary . He was Friendly,and on top of things. It's filling and thick since it comes with two sides - so with an appetizer, splitting this is a good option. Mac N Cheese - Comes in a little side dish, creamy but kind of bland. The whole package at Ransom's last night was a delightful experience and a magnificent night out in Montgomery, Texas. The restaurant has an eye-pleasing and attractive layout, with a lot of in-character adornments. The Chicken Fried Steak last night was cooked to perfection and the best I can recall ever eating in my life--no brag, just fact!! The outstanding takeaway was the service of our 20-year old waitress, Amber, a lovely girl and youngest of four siblings. Okay Yelpers, listen up! I finally made it by Ransoms Steak house located in Montgomery this evening to give them a try. They have several different cuts of steak here to chose from. I originally chose a smaller cut of steak... That is until my friendly waitress Rhaven smirks at me and says "I can eat that size of a steak all by myself, don't be a sissy." Okay Yelpers, Now my pride is on the line. Hence the reason I went with the upgraded COWBOY STEAK after the cute little comment by ms Rhaven. The Cowboy steak Is a mean bone in ribeye with good texture, great taste! This place has good ambiance and great service, along with good food of course. At the end of my meal I am thinking WOW that was a great meal, I'm seriously full! And of course her comes ms Rhaven saying "cool, I see you saved room for our famous Blackberry cobbler!?" It was then that I heard myself say out loud "I ain't scared, bring it on!" Okay, this little country waitress Rhaven is inside my head. So to prove that she's not the boss of me I nibbled on my awesome tasting cobbler with blue bell on top of it until I had to finally push away from it.
