It's been nice ordering from Ray's Mexican Restaurant. I love the burritos especially the carne asada and breakfast burrito. The california burrito is also quite great!! They have great nachos as well. Must try the ceviche and the carne asada fries. They are the bombast!! Whenever I crave a great burrito and can't leave the house to go get it this is the place I call and they have delivery service. I can even use cash or credit card to buy from Ray's Mexican Restaurant. When you just want something deep fried and smothered with cheese this is the place to go or call. Some experiences I have are worthy of detailed reviews going into depth about customer service and ambiance of a restaurant. Well there is not too much to report back on little Mexican food place other than the taste of the grub. Lets put it this way.... I ordered a burrito here at 9:30pm, let it sit in my car for about 2 hours...came back... ate it, and it was better than any other I've had in SD that I ordered fresh past 11pm. Ordered through Doordash and the food arrived fairly quick. I paid an extra $2.00 for shredded chicken and received big chucks of chicken, some of which was slightly fatty. My wife's nachos weren't warm, and considering how quick my driver arrived, you'd think they would have been. My piña colada was tasty. Our quesadilla was stuffed with sour cream, guacamole and salsa and very little cheese. Which resulted in a cold quesadilla. Just a few days ago, I hosted a big grand opening ceremony and celebration for my new wellness center at the sports arena office location (next to EOS Fitness). I was in such dire need for a caterer who was not only great but could accept my budget. It was all a very stressful process but the owner, Bobby, was a God send. He was incredibly helpful, respectful, professional and prompt with me. He was THE ONLY catering business who worked with my last minute crisis and THE ONLY one who gave me a wonderful price for his entire catering service. Bobby personally came and delivered all the food, made a nice setup/presentation for the food, was personable and made my event guests feel taken cared of! The food was all very delicious. There was so much food to feed more than 50 people and everyone was happy taking home all the extras. Unlike many conventional Mexican food, his food was not salty nor greasy and THAT ALONE IS A GREAT QUALITY. He also listened to my health concerns to make the catered food more focused on vegetables and salads. In addition, Bobby really listened to all my requests to make the presentation classy and provided all the nice clear utensils and black napkins to help make things easier for me. What a kind person! Bobby has a heart of gold and my guests felt that too! He went above and beyond to make so many things easier for me. THANK YOU BOBBY, love and gratitude!! This place is inconsistent, sometimes it's ok but this last time did it for me, I ordered menudo and after 20 min wait even though it was ordered online,I finally got it,I got home,added the seasonings and as I was about to eat it I looked at the spoonful of menudo, it had a big dead fly in it,I was grossed out! TEXAS BURRITO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't be fooled by the location or the decor. This place flippin' rocks. What an amazing little gem. I am so happy to live walking distance away. My personal favorite item is the Texas Burrito. It's a Cali Burrito, but with pollo asada instead of Carne Asada. I do strongly recommend calling in your order if possible. Orders typically take 10-15 minutes. Something that stuck out to me on a recent visit was that I ordered a Horchata. I accidentally left and didn't take it from the counter. I was a little bummed and irritated, but completely recognized that it was my fault for forgetting it. On my next visit I politely/casually explained that I had forgotten to take it on my previous visit. The gentleman behind the counter didn't hesitate to get me a horchata on the house. Food is 3 stars which is good for being delivered, and the added star is the fact that they deliver! Such a plus for my lazy-gimme some fries pronto-self. We were given a 60-75 minute window for delivery via eat24/Yelp, but the food arrived in 40! We tried the carne asada tacos, beef rolled tacos, carne asada fries, chicken quesadilla, and a side of chips and salsa, guacamole, and the spicy carrots -- all of this was only $10/person (including tip) and we had so much left over! Wow, now that I know about this place, screw wherever else I've been going! It's way better than some of the other holes in the wall I've been getting my cheapo meals at. My fish burrito was not greasy or heavy at all- and I actually knew what fish it was (tilapia!)- amazing considering most other fish tacos/burritos taste like defrosted cod. I was thoroughly impressed with Ray's delivery service. After reading the Yelp reviews, it seemed kind of hit or miss so I had low expectations. Normally I would just go to a taco shop myself, but this was the one day of the century that SD experienced rain, thunder/lightning storms and flooding, so there was no way I was leaving the house--and most delivery places were quoting wait times of over an hour. I ordered a California burrito (bonus points: sour cream is included! most places charge extra to add sour cream), a shrimp burrito and pozole. The delivery came in about 45 minutes, which was not bad considering the torrential downpour, and the delivery person was very professional and accommodating. Some things that really impressed me: - The prices are as cheap, if not cheaper, than competitors (who don't even deliver) - Delivery is FREE - The portions are generous--they're not stingy with ingredients - The pozole was still boiling hot upon delivery (how?!) - The hot carrots were perfect (most places make it too bland) - The burritos and pozole were delicious and flavorful I may never step out of the house for a burrito again. read more

Wait time - Now, we ordered Campechana Fries (they didn't have it on the menu). But it's part adobada fries/carne asada. We also ordered a carne asada burrito. Those 2 items took 40 minutes to make! Food - Got home and the only thing that can change my mind about this place at this point was the taste. -Campechana Fries - Fries were very soggy and covered in grease. The taste of the meat was ehhh. For some reason the carne asada had a sweeter taste. The salsa was watery and didn't have a whole lot of flavor. We probably ate less than half of the box and decided to call it quits. Same with the burrito. Wasn't a fan of the wait and definitely wasn't a fan of the food. A taco shop that delivers = GOLD! I had heard rumors about such a place and one Saturday we decided to see if it was true. We found the phone number, called them up and asked about an online menu. They told us a website that had the menu and could do online orders. We decided to just call Ray's back and place our order with them since we were paying cash. Good thing we did, since I had to call back two more times to add to the order. Once people in our apartment complex found out about this - everyone wanted in! The food so far has been really good. Fresh, lots of flavor, big portions, plenty of options for carnivores and herbivores alike! I've had the potato tacos, chicken tamale, ceviche tostada - friends got carne asada chips, carne asada chimichanga, potato rolled tacos...the list goes on (we've ordered a few times for groups haha). Everyone was happy with their food and the delivery time was about 30-40 minutes. Their salsa for chips is a bland pico de gallo, that's the only thing that was disappointing. I just recently moved to north park. after living in both east county and north county. I've been trying some of the local places my friends tell me about found some good stuff and ive also been dissapointed alot. When i came home from work. i was starving having only consumed starbucks during the day. I go on yelp see rays and realize its with in stone throwing distance. call them up and order. I asked the guy on the phone whether he recommended his adobada or their carne asada. This is usually where you get a awkward pause and abunch of non-useful information. Maybe I'll give this place another go at it because the carnitas burrito that I ate last night was probably the saltiest burrito that Ive had in a long time. It was not bad or inedible and I suppose that its better than being bland but still. If they toned it down on a bit on the salt and If they would do a better job of shredding the pork filling before they wrap it in tortilla then this burrito would be pretty damn good. Lots of sauce and not dry or chewy. There's good flavor though but its hard to eat when you're biting into a huge piece of pork that wasn't shredded or pulled and you end up dragging it out of the burrito with your teeth and you end up looking like a complete savage with nothing but a 4 inch piece of pork sticking out of your mouth. A few years ago, I came in and got the carne asada chips. I remember thinking it wasn't great and wouldn't come back here for those. Well, recently I came back and thought, ehhh, why not, I'll give this place another shot. Though this time, I came in specifically for some caldo de pollo (I am so into these, these days). As soon as I opened my container of caldo, I was already a tad turned off. The broth was orange. Granted, I've had restaurants who's served up pretty tasty caldos that had a slight orange coloring to it but was told it was 100% homemade and that the ingredients used, had turned it that. In this case, I really don't it was. It tasted like there had to have added something that came from a can. Not only that, the meat used was not the good part of the chicken. I got to as much of it as I could before I threw it out. The restaurant itself, isn't bad. Clean, and offers a few tables where you can actually stay in and have a meal. There's even a TV to get some entertainment viewing. Knowing that this business has been around for serveral years, I'm thinking there's got to be something good? BEWARE this is NOT "REAL" mexican food. My sister and I decided to order from Ray's because of all the great reviews on yelp and the biggest reason, they delivered to our lazy asses. I ordered chicken nachos, and my sister had a fish burrito. Lets begin with the nachos, the Chicken pink and slimy, the Cheese half unmelted cheddar & that fake nacho cheese sauce, the Beans watered down. The whole thing was just a soggy mess & to top it off the guac. was something you'd find pre-made at a grocery store. My sister didn't go into to much detail about her burrito but the look on her face and the burrito in the trash explained it all. I really enjoy eating at Ray's and I visit often. I am a vegetarian and Ray's has plenty of stuff for me as they have a fairly extensive menu. Obviously, I can't comment on the entire menu, but all of the potato based items have been great, and my favorite is the potato breakfast burrito. This little strip mall is quickly becoming my new favorite place in North Park! Not only is City Dragon next door, but now we have Ray's! Hungover as sin on a Sunday, and looking for something other than my usual bean/potato/guac/salsa burrito, I was lucky to find this place! I have been ordering from Rays for years and have never even set foot in front of the restaurant. How you ask? Through the magic of eat24hours.com Let's be frank. Sometimes, I just need a carne asado burrito. However, sometimes, no matter how bad I want a food item, I just can not be bothered to put on pants and comb my hair to acquire said craving. Cue delivery..... :) Rays has some amazing, authentic Mexican cuisine at it's finest. Things I have tried and loved here are the carne asada and California burritos, rolled tacos, carne asada fries, beans and chips, tamales and enchiladas. The only thing I have ever gotten that I didn't like was the chimichanga, but I think that was my fault, because I know a chimichanga is fried, and fried foods don't hold up for delivery that well. Also, let me tell you a little story about my good friend the Churro. Ray's has churros. Ray's has AMAZING churros. Since I've never been to the store, in my mind, a little Mexican abuelita makes them by hand in the back of the kitchen, sealing each with a little Mexican hug. lol...honestly, I don't know how they make them but they rock. They also have really great horchata there which I try to order by the gallon. OK not really, but a large size cup could easily be compared to a gallon. The delivery time for my residence can be an hour or so, so that is the only thing I would change. Try this place on a lazy day. You'll thank me. read more
