My job ordered delivery from here a few days ago, and I ended up getting 2 shrimp soft tacos & 2 fish soft tacos, plus a horchata. The delivery man was pretty friendly, and the food was very good. I really enjoyed the shrimp soft tacos with the melted cheese in it, while the fresh chopped tomatoes in the fish tacos made it even better. Wow! I thought I've had all of the Mexican restaurants in the area, but when browsing businesses on delivery.com (I had a credit) i thought I'd try Ray's. The prices are so good here I had a hard time hitting the $10 minimum, so I treated myself to a big horchata to go with my shrimp burrito. The burrito was so good! First off it came our so fast! The web site said 15-20 minutes but I arrived after 5 minutes and it was ready. The tortilla was crispy in a way I've never seen at other Mexican joints, and there was a lot of everything inside. Definitely didn't feel like cheap eats. Ate a bit at the restaurant before deciding it was too hot, and it seems like a lot of the locals and staff know each other. I hope to reach this status in the coming months, and plan to try their Surf and Turf burrito next! read more

While "Ray" might not be a traditional Mexican name, there is nothing unauthentic about the food. Ray's is just another gem in San Diego's portfolio is great Mexican food. We love Rays! I discovered it after I started dating a new guy who didn't love my normal taco shop I had been going to. We found Rays and were never going back. The potato rolled tacos are a gift from the universe and they make one of the best veggie burritos in the neighborhood (and we are normal meat eaters!) I love their hot carrots but they could be a little softer. We typically order the same thing, pickup is quick and they're open until 10 which is hard to find during COVID. read more

Ordered here for a couple of times for lunch and never had any complaints. I had the fajita for lunch today and pozole in the past and the portions are pretty big for a decent price. This has become my local mexican food shop if I don't wanna go sit down at El Comal. The owner is always nice and very accommodating to any special requests we may have. I've ordered many different things here, but my go to is a Black Bean and Cheese Burrito. The Breakfast burritos are on point and made with love. I also really enjoy the Taco Salads as well. They have two types of salsas to choose from, one red and one green. Parking can be a bit tricky, but you can always find one on El Cajon Blvd. read more

*Disclaimer* - I just moved to SD from LA two weeks ago and have not eaten/ordered out since I moved (this place was the first). I'm also not a fan of Mexican food but was told SD does Mexican food the best... I didn't go to the actual restaurant. I ordered from Postmates. Not being a fan of Mexican food in the first place, I thought I'd try a couple things in case I wasn't a fan of one. I ordered a fish taco, nachos, and cheese enchiladas. First bite of the fish taco = soggy (but could have been from sitting in the bag during the Postmates pick up) and flavorless. Done with that. Looked for the cheese enchiladas under a pool of red sauce and a mountain of lettuce. Found them (unfortunately). The tortilla was barely wrapped and the shredded cheese inside looked like it had been taken out of a bag and squished together like someone trying to pick together snow to make a snowball. The cheese wasn't melted at all. Just pressed together shredded bits. It hardly qualifies as edible. I actually tried it. It fell apart. I was done. Didn't even try the nachos. Such a disappointment. The worst part??? After taking just a few bites of either dish, I found myself throwing up about an hour later. I didn't have anything else to eat that day so it couldn't have been anything else. Really disappointed. Oh, and it wasn't cheap by the way! (Wasn't expensive, but shouldn't have been $35 for what I received) Not off to a great start SD. But this type of restaurant/meal is atypical for me anyway. Looking forward to exploring elsewhere (with a different food type perhaps). read more

This is a truly great, Mexican fast-(but yummy)-food restaurant available for pickup or delivery, with late night and early morning hours that are inevitably appreciated by some of us, once in a while. San Diego is lucky to have a mainstay traditional Mexican restaurant like Ray's. If it's Mexican you crave, and you want it here and now, this is the place to "go" (preferably, order by phone or online. I have no familiarity with the actual restaurant. So I can't say anything about it. But that's never been a problem for me :). After so many positive and honest compliments, I'll just add that although it is wonderful and convenient, it's pedestrian. They honor most special requests (I.e. - hold the sour cream). But they don't offer new, innovative, exciting, or "fine" cuisine. Don't expect it. They serve great mainstream Mexican food. That is all. I ordered a chorizo, egg, and potato burrito for breakfast. The service was fast and good but once I got the burrito and opened it. There's was way more eggs than anything else. I was back in San Diego and based on my last experience with Ray's which was excellent I decided to order again. Unfortunately this was nothing like my first experience. Ordered through Eat24 and had a confirmed delivery time of 4:38PM , actual delivery time was 5:00PM. Food was barely warm. I paid extra for shredded beef on the chili rellenos, could not have been more then a table spoon of beef. Also added a $4 up charge for extra shrimp, I was surprised how meager the serving was an wondered what a regular order was like. Tab for food was $27.24 before delivery charge, tax and tip, I would have thought there would have been more then 3 tortillas included, which were hard and cold. Plastic forks were included but no knives making if very difficult to eat/ tear the chili rellenos. I don't hesitate to praise a restaurant for a positive experience and my initial review of Ray's reflects this but today I am afraid was an over priced disappointment in all respects...... read more

Ray's has my favorite burrito ever. It is the broccoli, cauliflower, potato, and cheese burrito and it is absolutely delicious. I will drive 20 minutes from home and fight for parking just to get this burrito. Pair it with the green salsa and it is life changing. I'd just gotten off the plane from Japan and needed Mexican food, ASAP. YELP directed me to Ray's and after looking at the menu my mouth was watering. I ordered: Carne Fries, a California burrito, and two carnitas tacos (Don't judge me!). I mowed into the tacos immediately. It was transcendent. I wanted to curl up in that tortilla and live the rest of my life there. I pecked at the fries out of lust and not hunger until I had to close then up to try and save my dignity. I had to save the burrito for the next day which I was certain was its death knell. The next day I resuscitated the burrito and was actually pleasantly surprised, it was still delicious. I'd only warn that perhaps my intense appreciation for the food was because I'd been impeded from quality Mexican food. That said, I'll be back. read more

Decided to check out Ray's Mexican food via Postmates, and I was not disappointed! Due to the nature of Postmates, I can only grade based off the quality of the food (can't provide any info on ambiance, customer service, etc). But back to the food, lol: The food was amazing for the price, and surprisingly large portions. I assumed it would be small portions since it was so cheap, and it was not. So I ended up with two days' worth of leftovers, lol. But the food was so great, I'm not complaining. Personal faves: Carne asada nachos, enchiladas and their fresh tamales! The prices are good but the food isn't worth it. The beans were over cooked and the Chile Rellano was under cooked.

No better way to add some spice and pizzaz in the work week than to celebrate Taco Tuesday at work with some Mexican cuisine. Our company ordered lunch from Ray's Mexican Restaurant and this review is only for their catering food only! For lunch, we had: - Steak Fajitas (w/ flour & corn tortillas): cooked with onions, the strips of steak were seasoned well. Slightly overcooked so a bit chewy, I recommend getting the chicken fajita. It is hard to have steak fajitas catered, as it is usually best served sizzling hot. - Chicken Fajitas (w/ flour & corn tortillas): cooked with onions and bell peppers and served with side condiments of sour cream, guacamole, salso, pico de gallo, cheese and salsa, the chicken was marinated very-well and cooked evenly. Very good fajita selection! - Bean Chimichangas: commonly prepared with stuffings of rice, cheese, marinated meat and various Tex-Mex condiments, I tasted mostly beans and very very little cheese. - Beef Rolled Tacos: a little skimpy on the beef, but still very good, especially when freshly made. The rolled tacos are also a bit skinnier and shorter than rolled tacos at Vallarta - Rice & Beans: well-cooked and a delicious source of protein. I had two plates of the rice & beans! - Chips & Salsa Certain fried items, like the beef rolled tacos, were not as good as getting it fresh from a taco stand, but that is to be expected. My colleagues mentioned that Ray's Mexican tastes just as good as it smelled, and the portions are big to feed a party of 40-45 people. We love supporting local businesses and look forward to checking Ray's Mexican Restaurant out in person when we are in the El Cajon neighborhood! read more
