After all these years, Ray's still tops my list! My go-tos are the taquitos, carnitas, or the Tres Amigos combo, which is shrimp, carne asada, chicken. I always order extra tortillas and love their red and green sauces. Always friendly and on-time (for delivery) service, always quality food. For those of you who said the cali burrito here is the best must not be from SD.... The lady wasn't too friendly on the phone nor in person but whateva, I came for the food and Lemmmee tellllll You, I was highly disappointed. Not only by the taste and size for being $8.00, but mainly from their hot sauce!!! It was runny, does not have the thicker consistency that I like, it had an off taste, and most of all it was NOT SPICY WHATSOEVER. Being new to the North Park area, I was craving a burrito and spicy hot sauce so I searched up yelp reviews to find a good spot nearby. But my Yelp peeps have failed me. Definitely won't be coming back any time soon. But 3 stars for only basing it off one item, I did appreciate the cleanliness, and how well the burrito was wrapped. Have lived in North Park for years and have been avoiding coming here as I've heard so many mixed reviews, mostly negative. I finally convinced myself to give it a try. I walked in, looked at the menu for a minute or two, and the lady working the counter was on a personal phone call the entire time. Despite me being ready to order, she didn't once acknowledge me while she talked loudly on the phone to I'm assuming a friend. I walked out, and could still hear her chatting away. Probably one of the worst burritos I've ever had. It's mediocre at best. I had a surf and turf burrito, and my friend got the adobada burrito. The surf and turf had fresh shrimp in it, but the carne asada in it was so dry, chewy, and unflavorful. Maybe it would taste more better if the burrito had chipotle sauce in it. Also, the burrito is so watery that every time I took a bite, there would be juices spilling on my hands and the table. The adobada burrito was basically all meat -- there was no sour cream, cheese, rice, or anything in it. It was also really spicy and just not that flavorful. Blink and you'll miss it, but this unassuming little Mexican restaurant serves up fresh, quality food in good time every time. The owners are awesome and accommodating. The art that adorns the wall is comprised of a series of creative illusions that keep you entertained during your short wait for your food. One of the best authentic Mexican places! We catered a luncheon at our office and everyone LOVED Ray's. This was our first time ordering from them, and most certainly NOT the last. The customer service was very quick to reply and offer above and beyond service. The food was delivered hot, so fresh, and was absolutely delicious. Very generous portion sizes for catering, and a catering deal that is simply unbeatable. Our staff has not stop raving about the food, and Ray's has quickly become an office favorite. What a pleasant surprise! It was Christmas Eve afternoon. We wanted some tamales via Grubhub for our Christmas Eve festivities. Little did we know that a lot of Mexican places would be closed as of 2:00pm in the afternoon. Lo and behold we want Ray's Mexican. We didn't know what to expect, but we were so happy that we discovered Ray's. The tamales especial were huge and fluffy. They dressed the tamales with a lot of sauce. We got both chicken and beef - both were really good. We also got an enchilada which was also super flavorful. We will definitely be ordering from Ray's again. Favorite things to get here is California burrito and rolled tacos. They definitely don't skimp on the sour cream and guacamole. They will make anything exactly the way you want it if you just ask. This place is run by a husband and wife. They are so hospitable, which is probably why I keep coming back. Most Mexican spots you get what you get, but here they definitely will go an extra mile. When I first moved to NP I was looking for a Mexican restaurant to make my go to spot for burritos. Luckily I found Ray's right away, he welcomed me to the neighborhood and they seem like genuine caring people. My recent visit I tried the Carnitas special they have for $19.99, it's a massive plate with a pound of carnitas, beans, rice a side of pico, cabbage plenty of tortillas and the guac. Sits in a small strip mall and stopped in for lunch on Tuesday. Place was empty and had about 10 tables. Small place but it was obviously a "local" favorite. The owner was pleasant and they had a great variety of Mexican food. I ordered an egg, sausage and cheese burrito (asked them to not put on onions and other stuff). When we were ordering someone asked for French fries so I said I want them too. Just be aware, whatever you order on your burrito goes into it; as did the French fries. So if you want them on the side, be clear LOL. The burrito was HUGE and I am not exaggerating, the biggest one I have ever had, and it was delicious. Oh, no draft beer (-1) .. well no alcohol so not sure how you eat Mexican food without a good beer LOL. Just tried this place for the first time and ordered the carne asada nachos and carne asada tacos. The meat was flavorless! I was so disappointed after reading so many good reviews. It was very basic food and the hush on the tacos was dark green/brown so obviously was old. The only good thing from the order was the chips. read more

I enjoyed a great bowl of red menudo from Ray's on a early Sunday morning before the start of the NFL game of the day. The soup came with three warm corn tortillas and condiments for the menudo for $8. The soup arrived piping hot and came with a good amount of tripe and hominy. The tripe was chopped to form good edible portions and the hominy was of the yellow variety with the husk semi removed which I like very much. The soup had a great rich red orange color brought on by the red dried chili peppers which gave the soup a great flavor but very little spice. Not to worry however, because part of the condiment tray included a couple of hot salsas which also provided some great flavor. I add all the chopped cilantro and onions that came in the side and added some dried oregano, a few squirts a fresh lime juice and bam! I was ready to dig in. I used the corn tortillas to not only dip into the soup, but also make some tripe tacos with a little added salsa. It's not doubt an acquired taste which I acquired as a young boy. Service at Rays is super friendly and if you get a chance to talk to the Mexican lady in the kitchen who makes all the food, you'll learn that she is a down to earth friendly person and great cook. read more

Was at the chiropractor down the street when I had a strong craving for a breakfast burrito. This place popped up in my search so I gave it try. I had the bacon breakfast burrito and it was delicious! It absolutely satisfied my craving. I trust any place that does rice and beans in their breakfast burritos over potatoes. The burrito was extremely filling and I liked the hot sauce they included. The service was wonderful too! The man running the front was very kind. Tried this place for the first time despite eyeing it every time I've done laundry at Shiny-Mat (Wash N Go Laundry). After a few minutes of waiting for my food and taking in the decorations, I felt like I was in Rosarito. Nice! Prices are reasonable. Ordered the carne asada burrito (double wrapped), and the carne asada quesadilla. The food came out piping hot, but the quesadilla and burrito seemed to be lacking in ingredients compared to other places. For the price, (around $6? per item) I was expecting more. Their red and green salsas were really flavorful and great, though! I ripped my quesadilla into fork-sized pieces and drowned them in the green sauce. I probably used half a bottle of the green :D Not sure if I'll be back... maybe when my stomach's angrily growling while I'm doing laundry, and I don't have the patience to wait. I've ordered 3 times. 2 on line and once in person. The beef and chicken soup had plenty of meat, great flavor and vegetables were aldente, simply amazing and they both were delicious. With that said, I've ordered beef tostadas, when I received them, there was no beef on either of them both times. I ordered a side of rice and guess what , yep no side of rice. I asked for them to put Monterey Jack cheese in the bean burritos which would replace the cheddar cheese. They missed it both times. It's a good place for the soups. read more

I'm not sure what these other reviews got there, but the food is the worst I've ever had. I got a carna asada burrito and it just tasted like 5 layers of different textures, it had absolutely no flavor. My partner got shrimp fajitas he maybe got 5 shrimp with a mountain of oinons and peppers he said the shrimp was unseasoned and you could see that it was type of spices on it. We got nachos as well all the food was cold, I found a small hair in that nachos, and this morning I wake up to food poisoning. This place is disgusting and I warn anyone not to go. The service is pretty fast and they are very kind. They don't make you feel rushed to choose and they are actually helpful with the menu, unlike some hole in the wall Mexican restaurants. When we ordered California burritos they offered potato or French fries which is a rare courtesy! The Tamale Supremo is really Supreme! Huge and delicious ! It fills you up like a burrito and is really moist and flavorful. Usually tamales have dry corn masa, but it was delicious even if you took out the yummy pork.
