A cute place to sit and study - free wifi available, plenty of tables, and the workers are super nice. They don't have any sweeteners so I was a little disappointed when I couldn't get a vanilla latte. I settled for the mocha - ordered it because I was told it was topped with housemade ganache shavings. Honestly, the ganache shavings didn't add much to the drink. Also, I'm lactose intolerant so I ordered it with almond milk. FYI - it's $0.75 cents extra. The drink was good - what you would expect from a mocha. I would come back if I was in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Beautiful space, and great coffee is served here. They serve several very unique coffee cocktails that you cant find at many other coffee shops, and I highly recommenced giving them a shot if your feeling adventurous. I also had just a black cup of coffee which was very smooth, well balanced, and not overly acidic. Okay wow so I tried Recreational Coffee for the first time, and let me just say that it was good! I very much enjoyed it. First of all, the atmosphere and vibes of this place are just really cool. It's a place that I would be happy to go to and talk or work for a few hours. I got a Mocha and the avocado toast. The mocha was pretty good, but nothing special. But let me just say that the avocado toast was really delicious. They added pesto and cherry tomatoes, which was a unique spin on avocado toast and it worked in a big way. It was so good that I'm going to have to go back just to try it again. I want to try some more of their coffee drinks, if they are able to be a little bit more stand out than the mocha then I might even bump up my review to 5 stars. The food and atmosphere are that good. If you're around Long Beach, check this spot out. Just know it's in downtown and you might have some trouble finding parking. I've been planning to visit this cafe since I knew I would be in Long Beach and I had an awesome experience! Noticed this place on my way to another...I'm early, so I was excited about the prospect of tea. I love love the Almond Chai Latte....It was just that. Made with Almond Milk not "topped off" with and it's on their menu so I don't have to be that weirdo asking for it and paying extra... Went there on their birthday!! Kinda bummed because I wanted a grilled cheese but they do a seasonal menu, so I had a bacon breakfast Sammy on a brioche bun!! I wasn't sure about the ketchup sriracha, but came around to it and it gave a good flavor twist. Recreational Coffee has got to be one of the top coffee spots in Long Beach! I have never left this location feeling talked down to for not knowing a ton about coffee. In fact, the baristas have always been cheerful and happy to offer a few minutes of education. When I'm not in the mood for coffee, I love a good hot chocolate. I was amazed to learn that the hot chocolate was vegan (if ordered without real milk) and that they made their own chocolate in house. You can really taste the quality. They also have great hot and iced tea options! They have many vegan and vegetarian options available for food/drink and they are happy to offer substitutions if needed. The crazy thing is that I'm neither vegan or vegetarian and you seriously can't taste it in the food (that vegan churro donut is mouth watering). There's a ton of seating inside and two massive parking garages nearby. I believe you can get two hour free parking right around the corner as well. It is the city, after all. So what do you expect? Wait times on items can vary. You should take into consideration that they also do postmates (so they might get busy with those orders) and some people order a ton of food and drinks ahead of you. My suggestion is to sit back, take a deep breath, and enjoy the calming ambiance while you wait for your order. This is a great place to sit and relax. If you're looking to grab and go, they have a quick coffee option (until they run out for the day, then a pour over is probably the next best option for sure). The baristas are all so pleasant and welcoming. The owner even works as a barista and you can truly see the care in the business. This place also roasts their own beans! There's a variety of coffee beans to chose from and if you're ever not sure what to order, just ask for a recommendation and they're happy to accommodate. And if you don't like your beverage, they always offer a replacement drink. I have never seen them argue or talk down to a customer for not liking something they purchased. Recreational coffee humbly offers amazing coffee that they roast themselves, small plates of food and bakery along with a cozy unpretentious atmosphere. The specialty drinks here are unique and quite tasty but even the drip coffee is by no means a downgrade. Each table offers an outlet and there doesn't seem to be pressure to rush out of here as there tends to be in a lot of places. The food is by no means a meal but is well done. In comparison to say a Starbucks breakfast sandwich, Recreational is a little larger, much fresher and tastes better for a little extra $. On the plus side, my friend who never drinks coffee had a mocha and could not stop raving about it! we almost stopped by for seconds on the way back!
