Such a cute little spot in Long Beach. Perfect for evening coffee with stroll. They even have board games !!

Recreational Coffee has a great selection of drinks with one of the more unique menus I've seen. There are plenty of options to choose from, whether you're into coffee, matcha, or something different. The shop is also really well decorated with a clean, inviting atmosphere that makes it a nice place to stop by. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to try something new.

I love this coffee shop. Vibes are always on point. Staff are all friendly. Great drinks and foods. I come here often to study or journal, or even to grab a matcha to go. I'll post more pictures as I continue visiting. Here's my visit in which i got the breakfast oats- delicious, filling, and simple. Not too sweet. They have some special drinks at the moment, I got the Golden Hour which is like an iced chamomile tea. It was so refreshing and tasty.

Grateful to see this spot on the list of local places open on Christmas day. We love supporting our community and no better day than today to re-visit this place and enjoy some wonderful food and beverages. A place you can see friends/couples hanging out, people working/rereading, many walking in with small dogs, and an overall great vibe. There is a table near the counter with a variety of games, and a clean restroom with a code to enter. We shared several food items, all of which we delicious. As for beverages, the flavors were a preset so I went with an interesting mix of 2 flavor profiles (blueberry lavender + honey vanilla) and it was a perfect blend and just the right light sweetness. With so many coffee shops in the area, I'm glad this visit reminded me how great this place is.

Popped into this cool little coffee shop and it was well decorated and very cozy place, the order taker was knowledgeable of the drinks and he was helpful. The coffee was okay I got the horchata latte and it didn't feel/taste very caffeinated more milky and a hint of espresso. Probably won't be back to try anything else.

Wanted to try out a new coffee shop and this is in the DT long beach area. Nearby there's a public parking with 2 hours free by the way so I parked there. Now, this coffee shop had some good flavors, I got the brown butter miso chocolate cappuccino, and im a sucker for different flavors. The coffee itself tasted smooth and not bitter, the flavors all balanced together but it didnt wow me, so next time I'd try a different flavor. The main reason im dropping a star is because of the price to value ratio. I expected some phenomenal flavor or a decent size cup for the price, but the cup was quite tiny, reminded me of like a 10oz cup and for $7 its quite pricey. I'd try it again if im in the area, but not drive out just for this. Service was nice though and they had good seating

Stopped by here to do some work before my dinner plans. It was quiet on a Friday evening. Parked for free (2 hr max) at a nearby structure only 3 minutes away. Baristas are friendly and welcoming! I always feel like the community is stronger in Long Beach. My Matcha Latte was decent, very mellow on the matcha flavor. Chocolate muffin was warm and moist 10/10. I would come here casually if I was in the area.

First time here. Small, friendly, quiet little cafe. I had the Cinnamon Dolce Latte. It was delicious. I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time there, but will definitely stop by again. Oh, it's close to downtown LB and near the train.

Have to update my review - their iced lattes are fire. Every time I've gone here, my coffee has been great. Their seasonal menu always hits. Shaken maple latte with oat is my fav so far. Friends loved the iced chai lattes as well. Space to spread out and work or study. Great supporter of our community too

Was taking our fur child on a long walk and came across Recreational Coffee and since my partner is a coffee snob, thought I would give them a try. I had never heard of this coffee shop but I'm not the biggest coffee drinker. Partner hadn't been here in years but thought highly of this spot. Iced Americano was good. Our barista was disappointed as he didn't have the normal glasses used, so he subbed for some cool glasses that looked out of a tiki bar. Loved how thoughtful he was. Coffee shop was clean and had the vibe of the coffee shops I frequented in college. Would definitely go back.

Oreo Donut 10/10 - very sweet - fluffy dough - icing is delicious Chai Latte 8/10 - on the spicer side but still sweet - can taste the pumps of syrup a bit Coffee (not sure which one) 6/10 - paired good with donut - too strong for my friends liking - can barely taste the flavor it just tasted like straight coffee The service was really good and quick, we were provided our drinks within five minutes. The donut was really good and I highly recommend it, we were able to snag the last one. Their chai is pretty good so it's worth the try. Their coffee wasn't bad it just didn't taste like the flavor my friends wanted it in so maybe ask for extra sweetener if you try out their coffee. It's a really quiet coffee shop making it a great place to study or get some work done. They do have light music in the background but it isn't distracting.

Solid coffee, really enjoy a lot of their drinks including the Honey Vanilla Latte, iced coffees, pourovers, and more. They have an adequate amount of tables, but they are usually full when I visit on the weekends. You definitely want some headphones if you want to get some work done in peace, mix of modern, cozy, laid-back, but can get loud sometimes. I enjoy their Therapy blend beans which are their house espresso that has that cane sugar, milk chocolate body and toasted almond finish. The beans are great, but I only get the Therapy blend now because it's quite pricey ranging from $24 to $34. Nice coffee spot pretty close to downtown Long Beach area!

This lil coffee joint is a total vibe! I was completely clueless on what I wanted so I went with my Chai latte (iced) w an extra pump of Chai and a bacon, egg and cheese (Gouda) sandwich on toasted brioche bun. I asked for extra bacon because it's my business and bacon is good for you! Guess what!!!!! FIRE & DESIRE the Chai was strong ( exactly how I like it) and that breakfast sandwich was delicious. And bonus points for the music. Thank you for my morning pick me up. I'd wish I would have asked for the barista's name. He has bleached hair and super chill.

I'm glad to see this is more of least a normal donut shop with real normal donuts. I'm tired of these new fancy donut shops specializing in "creative" donuts with all kind of crazy toppings like every sweet cereal you grew up with priced like at $5.00 a donut or something. I go in and can tell this is one of those Asian donut shops that opened all over down here in SoCal. I think they might be Cambodian, nothing against Asians making donuts, they're the ones that started using the pink boxes we all know. Asians make the best fried chicken, so why not donuts? I look at all the donuts in the cases and they seem like all the familiar ones. I order a dozen and just point to the ones I want. The even have bear claws. I got one of those just for me. There's croissant stuff too. Service is friendly and efficient. The interior is a little dated but I'm here for donuts, not a fancy date or something. I was happily surprised to see that they carried some traditional donuts as well as the frosted themed ones! I found that this shop was related to Simones donuts which is a great business! They even do cookie tins and caramels. A couple of the special edition donuts looked so decadent and flavorful but more like a dessert that I commented. He then brought out for me one that was a brand new item and it sounded perfect- a sugar donut topped with strawberry mascarpone encircling a pandan center and I had to get it. He even let me have my themed matcha donut without the fancy little emblem for $1 less! So nice. Those, with a biscoff donut and a logo pin completed my purchase. The pandan topping was sweet but the mascarpone was reminiscent of a strawberry yogurt and the flavors blended perfectly. The other donuts were huge, fluffy and perfectly textured. I would have liked a stronger biscoff and matcha strawberry flavor in those crumbles but at least they were not sweet! Just delicious. At Long Beach's Sweet Retreat Donuts, that meant limited-edition experimental donut varieties (mostly with tropical flavor profiles), as well as a reliable vegan donut lineup. Clearly, Sweet Retreat has been doing something right, as it's been a Pacific Coast Highway favorite for a decade. Over the years, it has garnered recognition from plenty of local news outlets, from Eater LA to LAist. The cramped strip mall is more eye-catching for its reptile supply store rather than its donut shop. Inside the shop, the expansive, donut-themed cartoon mural to the right immediately makes a statement. Houseplants are plentiful across the otherwise undecorated, whitewashed walls. Donuts are organized on trays by price, with the charge doodled directly onto the glass with a white marker. Ambient noise from the television is drowned out by chattering customers and the buzzing coffee machine. During the summer months, the AC-less shop feels tropically balmy. My partner and I arrived at Sweet Retreat late one Sunday morning, and the shop still boasted a steady stream of customers. By the time of our visit, the remaining selection was regrettably slim -- beyond the standard fare, the most unique donuts sported either candy coating or tropical frosting. We opted for a hibiscus-frosted raised donut and an apple fritter. The former had an excellent donut base, and the hibiscus frosting was floral and tropical (albiet I would have enjoyed a more punchy flavor). Meanwhile, the apple fritter fell on the cinnamon-y side, heavily doused in glaze so that each bite (even the edges) melted in your mouth; Sweet Retreat's rendition was one of my favorites in Greater LA. Our Vietnamese iced coffee was strong and sugary, but nothing more memorable than peer coffeeshops. The service was efficient, and our two donuts cost a reasonable $5 (even frill-free mom-and-pop shops charge in this range nowadays). The selection was sorely lacking, but Sweet Retreat more than made up for that with its high quality and reasonable prices. This bakery may not warrant a dedicated trip out of the way, but it is sure to deliver a satisfying treat if you're already in the neighborhood.

As I entered the parking lot I witnessed a lady hanging out of the window of a car missing a rear bumper, cursing at a minivan that looked like it had recently been involved in a series of hit-and-run crimes. I'm unclear what occurred before I got there, but kept my head down and quickly parked and scurried inside. The entrance had cardboard on the ground laid out like some sort of Oscar the Grouch red carpet. There were two people sitting at the middle two tables with portable shopping carts filled with assorted belongings. The interior matched the rest of neighborhood with random stuff laid out on counter tops, and a general dirty feeling that made me consider whether I wanted to buy food here, but I was already inside. There was a single woman working the counter. She was polite and matter of fact. I had promised my kids donuts, so I ordered my box to go. While she used appropriate tongs to put them in the box, she didn't bother to fully close or seal the box. Just looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, I headed immediately back to my car but was followed by an unknown man shouting at me asking if I could spare a dollar. I quickly fidgeted for my keys and pulled the door closed and locked it behind me. This was at 9am. I cannot imagine this place late at night. The donuts were basic and not overly sweet, more of a fried bread. My kids ate a few bites of each but it wasn't worth the stress of getting them.

We were getting our tires rotated down the street, so we decided to go on a morning walk to get…read moresome breakfast. Upon entering, the two women in the donut shop were so helpful and happy that we were there to eat and kill some time. They definitely made our first visit special and gave us some tips on how to order our coffees since we didn't want to be wired. I ordered a ham and cheese breakfast croissant, and it was yummy. Not flaky, which made it even better. I also ordered a regular vanilla traditional Vietnamese coffee. It was perfect and not too strong. Also, the vanilla flavoring was subtle and not over the top. I also got a side of a strawberry shortcake donut, which was yummy but a bit sweet. Overall, great donut shop, clean, and great service. We will def be back!

I have been coming to Knead since before the pandemic when they had one location on 7th Street and…read more"Zombie Style" Viet Coffees were part of the secret menu, but they definitely have priced me out at this point. Stopped by on 4th of July (actually, super stoked they were open) and tried a new donut, the Mango Sticky Rice donut. $5 for the donut and not sure, maybe a premium charge on top of it because of what it was? Final total on the register was $8.88 (without tip) for one donut and no drinks. That is 3 apple fritters at another spot, which I DO NOT mind paying, if there is something high quality or fantastic about the donut I am eating, which this was not. It was a simple raised yeast donut base with a scoop of rice on top, green food dye, fresh mango chunks, and some coconut shavings. I thought there would be something on the inside (more mango filling or a cream) or something different about the dough (tiny mango pieces inside, a different spice), but it was like another plain donut with things placed on top. One of those things being simple rice. Definitely felt like the donut didn't justify the price. What if I bought 3 different donuts and a drink. Would it be $25? Not enough of a flavor difference for me to pay that next time.
