Really wanted to love this place because the view is amazing, and you can hear the ocean from the deck.... However, the service was really poor and the food wasn't good either. I had the tacos but the meat was really dry and flavorless. I paid $2 extra for the truffle fries and they served me regular fries instead. When I asked about it, she brought out a little crucible of oil for me to pour over the fries, and said "This all we have we ran out".... Further water glasses were never refilled and she almost never came by to check on us. My wife's meal was nearly as bland as mine. The kids seemed fairly happy with their meals but when we asked how they were, they said just OK. Go for a drink and the view but dine elsewhere... read more

We stopped here on our way up the coast. Two adults and two kids. The kids were a little restless from being in the car for so long (and hungry). We sat outside and they were so accommodating. The food and view was amazing. Not sure which one was better... from the infused cocktails to the BLT (my 6 year old said it was the best ever), Clams and Cioppino. And great service. Thank you Redfish for an absolutely superb evening on August 22. Your space is lovely and the view unparalleled. You managed a full restaurant extraordinarily well with the available staff. The young lady who served us was kind and knowledgeable, and never made us feel rushed or ignored, though it was clear that she was running her butt off. The food was extraordinary. Seafood requires a deft hand - both in the preparation and the seasoning- and you clearly have the skills. I enjoyed the rockfish with hazelnuts and was delighted to taste all of its nuances, not overwhelmed by too much salt or overdone sauce. My wife enjoyed the Cioppino, which contained some of the sweetest mussels and clams I've had on the Oregon coast- again perfectly flavored so as to not overwhelm the fish. And my wife's rye cocktail was truly exceptional. I hope you'll always carry that Fort George IPA from Astoria because it's a true winner. Overpriced, fresh-from-the-freezer food. I'm more than willing to pay those prices for fresh, seasonal, gourmet food - this is not that. My family and I have been here three times, every time was awful. We live in the same general area and really tried to makeover an effort to support this business, but we just can't. Visit #1: my engagement party. There were seven of us, service was fine. FIVE of us ordered the filet, medium rare, so... $150+ worth of food? ALL FIVE steaks came out WELL, very well. When this was brought to the waiter's attention all we got was a shoulder shrug and a quick "sorry about that" - no offer to take them back. The manger, or somebody came over and apologized, saying that "dessert was on them." Great!!! I love dessert!!! That's when they brought out two tiny desserts and seven spoons. Seriously? Visit #2: Mother's Day brunch. The portions were super small, the crepes were rubbery and under filled - maybe six berries each? The breakfast potatoes tasted like they'd been in a chafing dish for six years and were dry and grainy. The. service. was. Awful. Visit #3: just a regular ol' lunch. Service sucked again, the waitress was snooty and inattentive. The food tasted like it had lived in a freezer and died in a microwave. I chose Redfish for a date-night indulgence during a 10 day stay on the S. Oregon coast. It was the perfect location. The dining room is decorated with interesting art and overlooks the scenic Battle Rock bay. This is a romantic place with gorgeous views, especially at sunset. Our cocktails were mixed perfectly and the crab cake appetizer was fantastic. We both ordered the Bibb salad and the mixture of Oregon gorgonzola and bacon was to die for. Our entrees were the rib-eye and the Pork porterhouse special. Both cuts were outstanding. The risotto and broccoli w/ my steak were excellent, but I coveted her potatoes. We were both stuffed, but the flourless chocolate decadence tort sounded like the perfect end to the evening, which it was. Not too sweet, but very rich. Our trip to Redfish was the culinary highlight of our vacation and the perfect location for a fancier alternative to the mostly-casual ambience of most S. Oregon restaurants. read more

I realized it might be the ingredients when I saw the bartender pour grocery store oj into the blood orange martini. They definitely don't get the seasonal concept. Acorn squash entree in June???? (Visited Cinco de Mayo, Thursday & off-tourist season) Please take this review with a grain of salt because quite frankly, we stopped into the Redfish for 3 simple reasons: 1) it was LITERALLY across the parking lot from the visitor's center. 2) I recognized it from some of my travel research 3) We were definitely needing a little sumthin'-sumthin' for a Cinco de Mayo pick-me-up and it was right there. Honestly, regardless of the above mentioned, Redfish is one of the only places that will catch your eye in this sleepy little port town. It is planted in probably the most remarkable location a restaurant could have in the town, with sweeping views of the ocean from it's patio and restaurant windows. I can't imagine any other restaurant in town can compete with this view. Now, I can bet that this place gets pretty rockin' in the middle of July with the tourists during the dinner or cocktail hour, but during our visit, this place was D-E-A-D. I mean, ghost town quiet. The bartender and server attempted to keep us company; nervously forced banter that was almost as painful as the price for my Tanqueray on the rocks. The rocks pour/martini pour experiment was a big fail, as my martini absolutely dwarfed my rocks pour in size by about 8 to 1, yet was only a couple dollars more when I ordered it next. I love when bartenders fail that one. Always cracks me up. Price point for booze matched the bars in Seattle that my wife and I work at, so know what you are getting into when you order booze. Sucked a couple down quick as the atmosphere was about nill and I could start to smell the creeping stench of price-gouging in the air. Not to say this place doesn't have some impressive qualities. It really is a finely arranged and located establishment. Beautifully and artistically decorated, clean and pristine and set up for fine entertaining, bistro-styled atmosphere. It's hip man. Seriously........definitely a bit TOO hip for these parts. And that's what is so odd about this place. This is a Seattle or Portland-style Bistro, plopped in the middle of a seemingly depressed port community. Hmmmm....good luck with that ;) Wish we could report back on the food, but didn't feel like paying uptown prices for a small town meal. The atmosphere and views at Redfish were very nice but the rest of my experience here left a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. When we walked into Redfish, my wife and I were wearing sweatshirts (having come in from the beach). The hostess asked if we had a reservation, we did not. Then before seating us she asked us look at the menu. (A first for me in 35 years of dining) Since obviously it was a fish restaurant, the only explanation was that she wanted us to look at the prices. Maybe we did not look like their kind of clientele. The service in general was substandard. We were seated at a table with no silverware. After the waitress took our order and brought bread (still no silverware) I grabbed two settings off the table next to us. Neither of our water glasses were refilled throughout the duration of the meal (neither had any of the other customers glasses). Had our waitress returned to our table at any time during our meal I would have asked for more but she did not return until we had finished our meal. The grilled cod fish on a bed of couscous in itself was quite bland and lacked any hint of seasoning. However the truly disappointing flavor was the subtle charcoal taste that came with every bite. I couldn't determine whether it came from over toasted almond slices or the grill marks from a dirty grill. Either way, it was so pervasive that I could not even taste the delicate fish which should have been the highlight of the dish. Normally if the service is bad and the food good or the other way around. I'll give the place a mulligan and try another time. But when both service and food is sub standard I'll take my patronage elsewhere. read more

We had a nice bottle of Shaffer Chard, ordered the Grilled Rockfish Almondine with cous cous...YUCK!!! I still have a bad taste in my mouth...the cous cous had no flavor and was a pile of oil, the fish was bland and burnt...not just grilled, but burnt.. Our server was ok....maybe stressed as the restaurant was busy. She was less than attentive. Maybe a bad night for the chef...but for the money...not what we expected. We had high hopes. If you are willing to pay a premium for a chef to plate you small portions of original flavors then this is the place for you.. We stopped by after a lovely Mother's Day enjoying some coastal hikes. We'd all seen Redfish before, and envied the view while admiring the modern exterior; unfortunately that is about all we can say we admire. On our list of "pluses" were: the balsamic dressing for the beet and goat cheese salad (although there was maybe two tablespoons of beet and less of the cheese), the sauces for the entrees (surf 'n turf, pork chop, and hanger steak) were original and paired well with their respective dishes, the comfortable metal/leather chairs, and some of the artistic touches throughout (especially the bathroom sinks). Our qualms were many, but chiefly the time between ordering and delivery of food was too lengthy, especially with a hungry child on hand. With a restaurant below half capacity and multiple tables through with entrees the prices should ensure the main course arrives within 45 minutes. Additionally, the service was spotty (my water was empty within five minutes of receiving my beer but wasn't refilled until I had already started my entree), the steaks were pre-cut with the grain, and the draft pints (along with other beverages) were priced thirty percent above comparable south coast restaurants (seriously, this isn't downtown Los Angeles). Personally, the most significant negative of the evening was my entree. I ordered the "House-made Gnocchi" which was described as a "mushroom medley;" when the meal arrived there were but seven, count 'em 7(!), miniature gnocchi (seriously the size of a super premature kumquat), and the "medley" consisted of one paper thin portobello mushroom cap. Don't get me wrong, the flavor of the gnocchi was good, but when coupled with the bland tomato paste-seasoned quinoa and the "mushroom(s)"/seven tiny gnocchi I transformed from a patient patron to a former patron. I mean come on, I'm a skinny guy and I'm not asking for much but when my 15 mo. son could eat the whole entree you're seriously skimping on the portions. The consensus of our group was that this restaurant is not somewhere we would return. The next time I want to spend $198 on four people you can bet our entire group will leave the table without rumbling stomaches. read more

Another example of a coastal restaurant that is all about the view and not the food. Just about nothing went right with this meal. The first glass of wine from Willamette Valley Winery was vinegary and nasty to the point of having to request something else. They were surprised, saying the bottle had just been opened and no one else seemed to mind it. Then came the oysters, which were from the Oregon coast near Coos Bay. The oysters were good, but they were covered in diced cucumbers and other items that totally overwhelmed the flavor and taste of the oysters. The entrees were also not what were expected. First, cod was served instead of the salmon. When noted it was the wrong entree, somehow they managed to whip up the salmon entree within 5 minutes. Perhaps I should have stuck with the cod. The salmon was OK, although a little boring. It came in an sweet-ish asian sauce over two baby bok choys. The accompanying "rice" was awful. It was bizarrely dry, like it had been dehydrated. The waitress even made fun of my not liking it. It should have been returned too, for a trifecta of returned dishes. The other entree was a large, fairly delicious pork chop. It was supposed to come with risotto, but instead was served over orzo without explanation. Also mixed in was some kale. The sunset view of the ocean, however, was lovely. read more

I had reservations for a party of 5 at 7:00pm on 6/21/23 (Summer Solstice). Our party arrived at 6:55 and were seated immediately. Ok, that was as good as it got! Naturally we start with the drink and appetizer order at 7ish. We had to ask for water, fine. Everybody else got ice water, not us. Maybe ice or lemon would have helped because it tasted like it came out the bathroom sink. When we got our appetizer (short rib eggrolls) which were good, we ordered our entrees 7:15ish. As time goes on, I see other tables getting food some of them course after course, even patrons that had arrived after us. Our waitress NEVER came to check on us (too busy with other patrons). I don't own a restaurant, but two servers for this number of customers is not adequate (the restaurant was full). I thought maybe someone was on break. The waitress and waiter were answering phone calls, making drinks, serving, and seating people. Mind you we are starving at this point! A couple of us got refills after some what of a wait. Here's the KICKER!!! At 815ish the waitress reluctantly, I could tell, comes to our table while thumbing thru her note pad and says, "I don't know what you ordered". I Almost fell out of my goddamn chair! She looked confused, imagine what we looked like! I said "what, we have been waiting an hour for our food, we drove almost 2 hours to get here, and you don't know what we ordered?" This was a celebratory dinner for my wife and kids! I was in shock! She said they would rush our order to the front of the line before anyone else, I should hope so. She said she would bring out some clam chowder and fries immediately and add some dessert on the house. I wasn't even worried about desert! I/we were fucking hungry at this point! Two other parties received their clam chowder and bread/butter and salad before us, that was 15 min after she said she lost our order, after she said we would be served first. One of those parties received his clam chowder within 5 min after walking in, I wanted to be that man so bad! At this point they had waisted enough of our time. That's when I couldn't take it anymore and went to the bar to pay for what we already received and was totally IGNORED, the waiter made eye contact and turned away. You would think by this time someone would have been kissing our ass, even a little. We were there three years prior and couldn't wait to return as the food, service, and view were amazing AT THAT TIME. Fucking COVID, right? I hope this is enough info Redfish owner. I know you like to comment on these reviews, you have my number. As the owner of this establishment, I think it would behoove you to reread prior reviews because they all seem to follow the same narrative. There are deficiencies somewhere at Redfish that need to be addressed, too bad and good luck. read more

Came here for an afternoon coffee and the waitress was more than gracious to let us take up one of their outside tables overlooking the water. The coffee was great and the view was even better. Everything on their menu looked incredible and very reasonably priced and I wish I could have stayed here for dinner. This place was started by two artists brother as was apparent in the attention to detail in all the decor and fixtures in the restaurant. All of the chairs, picture frames and railings were hand-made of rustic metal material, but this description does not do any justice to how fabulous everything looked and fit togethers. We stopped in for dinner abt 6 pm and it was busy, glad we made reservations earlier in the day. The staff seemed to be overwhelmed as the service was a bit slow but the food was really good. I had the garden salad and my wife had the arugula salad. Both were huge but the garden salad was definitely better. My wife had the cioppino which was good but the special that I had was terrific. It was the fish over brown rice and veggies. Loved it. The only thing that wasn't tasty was the edamame, I normally enjoy it but 'this was covered in some Kind of oil the had a slight bacon taste. More than seafood! My family had gone to Redfish for breakfast on their way to California, and had given it rave reviews. So for our Sunday drive, we loaded up the baby and headed down. Breakfast was wonderful!! I had a sausage, potato dish and it was wonderful, light and tasty. We left perfectly filled, not with that bloated, "can't eat for the rest of the day" feeling. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant because it was one of the only places in the area open past 8 PM and we had been craving seafood. The food itself was pricey, and the quality of food did not match the price at all- bland or too buttery. While there were amazing views of the Oregon coast, I feel like we would have enjoyed ourselves much more if we had sat outside. Inside, there was live music, but it was overly loud and entailed a lot of screaming. It did seem to be popular amongst the crowd of locals who were singing along loudly and dancing- which was entertaining to watch. The customer service was fine, as the employees were seemingly friendly, but busy. We did awkwardly get a front row seat to a woman (who likely worked there or owned the place) being disrespectful behind the bar to one of the female employees and almost spilling wine on her. The view is superb. The food was less impressive. Our group had a set menu from which I chose the basic hamburger: a thick patty that was good.
