Yo! I just came here on a whim this morning, Tuesday, 16th of January 2024, and was met with the most incredible sight at Roasting Waters. A nice and well spoken young man at the counter (I think he had a hole in his chest), as I was ordering I noticed he was playing Been Ballin' by Chief Keef on the loudspeaker, shoutout to Chief Keef, I love Chief Keef, big ups Chief Keef, keep it up Chief Keef. I got the RW coffee and it was pretty good. Other than that, I would say the place is pretty freakin' cool, except for the fact that I got accosted by a homeless man out front and he threw my coffee on the ground. Prices are more than reasonable and boba is free as a first topping on drinks which is always a sweet bonus. Love the revolving door of prints they have on their bottles. This review is so long over due. I've been in love with RW for a solid 5 years. I have to admit that the only that that originally dragged me in were the super cute glass bottles. To my surprise RW actually had a great selection of drinks. My go to was the RW coffee with pom poms. I loved the sweet strong coffee with the burst of pom poms that married so well all together. The coffee is strong and delicious. There is so many different options on the menu that there is one that will for sure beat that craving. There's sweet, salty, strong and mild, everything you could ever want. And each custom drink comes with a super cute cup that you can take home, unfortunately they no longer have the amazing glass bottles but non the less they are still cute custom cups as a souvenir. read more

Such a goofy place. I put off coming here for years cause it was just so popular and, now that I have, I'm even more baffled by the popularity. Came out to nearly 6$ a pop for overly sweet drink in either a cheap plastic bottle or a flimsy glass one...neither of which are really reusable. Though some of the prints are cute, I'd rather just stick w my basic drinks elsewhere and save myself a buck or two than bring home some novelty trash. The only drinks on their menu that you could customize the level of sweetness are the green tea drinks. However, when asked to do it w little to no sweetener it was still syrupy sweet. If you really love sugary drinks then you'll prob like it here but it certainly isn't worth waiting in a long line for it. I mean, this is pretty much the equivalent of an adult lemonade stand. I am hesitant to write this review because I want to gate keep this place...discovered because of their recent Tare Panda collab so I had to come up from San Diego to check this place out and it's now my favorite drink spot EVER!! So much adorable merch everywhere, amazing selection of drinks, amazing prices, and the fact that the drinks are served in character bottles is the best. The person working this afternoon 8/17 was so kind, attentive, and hardworking - y'all need to hire another person to help him out! He made our drinks taste amazing and even offered our pup a little snack :) I got so much tare panda merch too. I love this place soooo much I can't wait to come back!! read more

Ended up searching again for open coffee places and Roasting Water was near to me so I decided to go there. It is a tiny little shop and the decor was so cute. I wanted to look at everything. I looked over the menu and talked to the guy about what is popular and what is not too sweet. I listened to his recommendations and decided to try cafe sua da with cream. It's okay. Packaging, atmosphere, and the cafe are great. I love collecting the glass bottles some frozen drinks come in. Sometimes the drinks can get a bit icy and the boba isn't fresh, though. They can be understaffed at this location. Overall a great place to hang out though, and okay boba is you're just playing a board game upstairs or enjoying the knickknacks. read more

I use to like coming here for my boba drinks because it came in those cute bottles. The designs would change every few weeks. Some of my faves were the mermaid and panda glass bottles. They would post on IG so it made you want to come in. Yes, I fell into the hype. Fast forward to the present day, I find the drinks to be super sweet. All you really taste is the syrup or artificial sweetner. I got a black almond milk tea recently and boy was it extremely sweet. They don't allow customization so you're stuck with the drink as is. If you prefer 50% sweetness then you'll mostly likely not tolerate the RW drinks. Now that there are so many better options out there, I think RW has been deleted from my boba list. read more

I really appreciate the workers here! But I also feel like this RW is really under-staffed, and wonder if the workers are treated ok for everything they have to deal with. Usually there's only person manning it or closing, very occasionally do I see two. That pretty much means they need to handle everything. They stock a bunch of cute plushies and merch, which is great. Aside from the drinks we've bought a number of plushes from here. Most recently we had an issue with their lucky cat tumblers (water got into the top cap after first wash), and I reached out via their site and IG to ask if one of the parts could be replaced. Haven't received a response, so it's unfortunate that customer service from the owners is pretty much non-existent. On the bright side, they do offer drinks in really nice reusable containers from time to time but it's a bit backwards that the ones we received free were better than ones we actually went and decided to purchase. There are a number of nice drinks they provide aside from the typical milk teas. For some reason, I really enjoy their version of the strawberry smoothie. It has condensed milk; a good chunk of strawberry bits to add tartness; and the ice is finely ground, so it's refreshing and not as "sludgy"/gooey compared to a regular smoothie. If it weren't for my mother craving RW Coffee, I would highly avoid this location. We came in at around 7:30pm on a Sunday night and were the only customers in the store. The guy at the counter (heavyset figure, bowl cut, glasses) always has the worst attitude from the last few times I visited this location. I have to mention that the exact words he said to me were "usually we can adjust the sweetness level, but for you I won't do it. You still want the drinks or not?" These words were exactly what I needed to write this review and encourage everyone to NEVER SUPPORT THIS STORE! There are SO many boba shops in the OC within walking distance of each other (7Leaves, Kung Fu Tea, Ding Tea, GongCha, Urban Location just to name a few) that have bare minimum service, AND don't nickel and dime you for a bag to carry your drinks! He always tries to charge me 15 cents, 25 cents, even FIFTY CENTS per bag when there was no fine print or signage anywhere in the entire store that states that a mandatory bag fee will be charged. Another time, I was in the middle of inputting my phone number to redeem my loyalty reward points and HE COMPLETED THE TRANSACTION, saying that there was no point in collecting rewards if I don't go there often enough. How would he know that I wouldn't be there the next day? Surely I would have if he wasn't working. If how he treated me as a paying customer isn't discrimination, I don't know what is. All of the other staff here are welcoming and that's what keeps my loyalty to Roasting Water when I visit SoCal, but this is the last time I am visiting this location and I really hope the staffing situation changes because this guy is seriously in need of a performance re-evaluation. Trust me, I've worked in retail before and know how it feels to work while having a bad day but you know what? It's really unfair to take out one's anger and frustration on a paying customer, especially those who greet you with a smile! Ordering and paying for these drinks, just interacting with this male staff alone is such a hassle! Ordering feels like arguing! Asking feels like begging! Take your business elsewhere, people. The drink quality here has taken such a toll, just like their service. Because he refused my plea for lowering the sweetness level of my Sea Salt Jasmine drink, I felt like I was drinking a bottle of liquid sugar. It was disgusting. Every single boba place nowadays, at the bare minimum, lets their customers adjust ice level and sweetness to their liking since they're paying for what they're putting into their bodies. This location does the exact opposite. For anyone watching their sugar intake, do NOT support this location. Try the other RW locations if you're in desperate need for their limited edition bottles that they change out frequently. RW Management, I IMPLORE you to advise this particular individual on how to provide decent customer service. I mean this in the most genuine way possible that some people should just stay behind the scenes in the workplace and are not meant for frontline customer service. This guy is an example of that. This is my favorite place to get boba when I want a smoothie! I wish they had one in San Diego but I makes me look forward to being in Garden Grove area. Theirs multiple locations and no matter which one I goto the quality is always awesome!!! The smoothies are made with fresh fruit which is always the best way to make it! My goto drink is Heavenly Kiss which is a strawberry smoothie with Strawberry and Lychee chunks at the bottom. I don't get boba because I like the fresh fruit chunks but their boba is soft and good with drinks too. The price is affordable too. I don't like this location. The place is poorly designed with a very narrow hallway and not a lot of space to hang out. The outside has a table, but that's hardly enough. It really felt like a "get your stuff and leave" kind of atmosphere. Even the staff acted in such a way. I think for a place that touts its unique bottle designs, it makes sense for the staff to be more friendly and engaging in selling their current products. We came for the pug bottle event, but they initially tried to give the valentine dogs instead. We had to ask specifically for the pugs, and they told us they were out. We asked nicely if they could check, and turns out we got the last two bottles. I was really happy with that, and they were friendly enough about it. But I kind of just an annoyed feeling about it. Maybe they've already had lots of people ask them about this, or maybe they were just having a busy day, but I thought it was kind of weird they didn't seem really excited about their own promotions. The spacing of the location makes it hard to get in and out of the place, and the floor often is sticky. It's a little unfortunate that a well-marketed chain has a branch with less than impressionable airs. read more

A cute and good little cafe to stop by if you're exploring the area! The decor is adorable (keep the little ones in check, everything is glued down but you never know) and great for quick pics. The place is small so your seating arrangement is limited to the few seats and tables outside in the front so it's not great for group hangouts, I'd recommend you grab and go! This is definitely a take your boba to go place. I appreciate places that have swapped to using reusable bottles, even though it's pricier, I end up getting a cute little bottle I can use later at home and office. I got a black milk tea with boba and pudding. The waiting time was short, by the time I snapped the pics around all the cute things, our drinks were done. The milk tea was delicious. You can taste the brewed tea and it was not overly sweet, which I totally appreciate. The rest of my group got a green tea with lychee, iced coffee, and strawberry smoothie. They all seem to like it. Cute drink containers! We have been to other Roasting Water locations that are bigger and seem to have more parking. Alana and I were lucky to get a space right in the front! We walked inside to a small, almost crowded space. Both sides of the walls were filled with decorative mugs and cute character cups. We were kind of disappointed that the current drink container is made out of glass and has a cork cover. The previous containers were made out of plastic and had the twist-on cover with a handle strap that you can carry. We were all right with the glass container because it had some nice copper trim and it matched well with the turquoise design. It looks like a student studying a map with Orange County on it! This location seemed to be more of a take out type of place because there are no seats inside... just a few chairs outside on the sidewalk... We left with our drinks (I had the Guava Green Tea) and enjoyed them in the car. I think we will be back later to see if there's a different container because some people we know are collecting these items... See you again soon! read more

Roasting Water really surprised me. I came in with low expectations because places with overly cute packaging and Instagram hype tend to be overrated. But I misjudged you, Roasting Water. Decor is first and foremost very noteworthy. The walls are lined with precious yet adorable cups/mugs/flasks, pretty much anything that can hold a drink. Be careful not to lean against anything! The boba shop itself is really small.. it's difficult to even walk past people in the same store. Service was ok. I asked the cashier what he would recommend and it wasn't too friendly. All he said was "The smoothies are popular" and quickly turns around to do something else. So I take a look at the smoothie options on the menu.. highly extensive. I've never been so overwhelmed with options. The drinks took about 5 minutes to make and they came out in holiday special (high quality) plastic bottles. Jasmine milk tea - 5/5 The Jasmine tea was very prominent and we didn't adjust the sugar levels. It was perfect- not too sweet and not too bitter! The boba was really soft with a nice chewy texture. Plus, I like the fact they use crushed ice. Mango smoothie with mango bits - 4/5 My mom really enjoyed this one even with mangoes not being in season. It was really refreshing! It would be better if there were signs to which bottles were for sale or even which bottles come with your purchase. In addition, my sister really wanted to purchase the Gudetama bottles we saw on IG and on the countertops but the cashier said it was sold out.. clearly there is one on the display which apparently isn't for sale, I guess. It was a bummer to see the bottles on display only to look at when you can't even buy the last one. Oh well. I recommend trying Roasting Water, if not for the cool cups but for the high quality drinks and boba! Keep in mind, the boba shop is really small with no chairs, tables, or even much standing room.
