If i could rate this place a 0 instead of a 1 I would. However, Yelp requires you to put at least 1 star. The Bolognese pasta tasted like hamburger helper and the portion sizes for the children were larger than the adult sizes. The children's drinks were $5.00 for less than half a can of soda. Unfortunately I did hear a curse word amongst the staff and was very disappointed. None of the food tasted good so I left out of dissatisfaction and went to another restaurant. This is definitely not a child friendly restaurant and I will not be returning again. This place did not feel like a family friendly restaurant and the staff as I was leaving sounded uninviting and rude. read more

The food has always been good, but they are truly finding their rythem as a restaurant and taking it to the next level. Went to Roca & Martillo this evening with some out of town friends, and had a fantastic experience. We ordered 3 Ribeyes, and the Parmesan Chicken and enjoyed every bit of it, along with several margaritas and ole fashions that were wonderful! Andrew the manager came by a few times through our dining experience and made sure it was nothing short of great! Would highly recommend and will certainly be back again! read more

The food was really good for being open 1 week. The bread service was disappointing we had 5 at the table they only brought 4 bread pieces, 2 were quite burnt, not charred. It did take 25 minutes to get bread , we requested 2 new pieces plus 1 for the 5th person, they only brought 1. It's only been a week that they have been open but service is below average. The servers are friendly, but don't come to refill drinks, it took over 40 minutes for food and we were at the end of the night. It is very loud when all tables are seated. The food was unique and different, for example bolognese was more of a brown gravy , the cannelloni filling was mixed with lots of lemon zest and juice , which is not something I'm use to having, such a strong flavor, but it tasted good once you get use to it. The super sundae was delicious and something I would go back for, we split amongst the 5 of us and it was just perfect . We will try the place again and see if it has improved and they have worked out the kinks. read more

Friday 03/21.....730 pm reservation. Completely NOT needed because there were only 4 tables in the entire restaurant with people. WHAT HAPPENED?? Last time we visited it very crowded. Well.....here was our latest experience.....ordered the steak bites and deviled eggs as apps......5 mins later waitress states they are out of the deviled eggs......what?? 730 on a Friday and out of an appetizer?? Deviled Eggs....pretty tough to make?? Steak bites arrive and were flavored fine but almost inedible due to the toughness of the meat. Where did they get this stuff?? Straight Donkey meat. Toughest meat I have EVER put in my mouth. Wife ordered the gnocchi....and yep you guessed it.....5 minutes later waitress states.....they are out of the gnocchi. What?? What?? Out of gnocchi?? Apparently they have given up on this place entirely. Food was BAD. Service was fine and we felt sorry for our waitress as she obviously was only going to have 1 table for the night. Lots of better choices. DO NOT EAT HERE. It was just BAD all around. read more

Well. No surprises here. Last Saturday, early 6:15 reservation, our table ordered two plates of fried chicken (2 thighs 1 breast) and when it's delivered they tell us sorry, all that's left is thighs. But, in fact, we each have three breast that were halved. Fine with me but not the other guest. Also, interestingly, the manager would not seat us and told us to wait for the hostess who appeared 5 minutes later. We don't go to Jardin anymore because they can't pivot or offer good customer service and don't go to Tre anymore because one Saturday at 7:00 they were out of three different red wines before we just took the CVS Duckhorn. Poor planning, bad help, no owner/chef in sight? Who can say. The locations are great. The concepts are great. Seems like absolutely no oversight or interest once restaurants are open. read more

Decent service for our dinner in the main room, but nothing was really thought out regarding noise and ambience. It's so incredibly loud in there. We've been there twice, once on a Tuesday evening and then on a busy Friday night. Both times so loud, we had to yell to have conversation. The food was so oversalted, our party of 9 had 8 different entrees and we shared family style to try it all. The pork, ribeye steak and ahi tuna were so salty, especially the pork. That entree was the worst. It was served on a salad with beets and peaches, and bacon, and somehow the bacon was the least salty part of the dish. Really!!! The pasta dishes we had ordered the week before were also very salty, but we let it slide and decided to try again. They closed the upstairs bar/ patio area early, even though we were told we could go up there to have drinks and enjoy dessert for our bday celebration. Once we got up there, and it was planned and discussed with our waitress and the manager, the bartenders told us their manager said it was closed and we actually got locked out on the patio, a party of 9 on a Friday at 9:30pm. Yes, we literally got locked out of the business in their business. That's absolutely bad form. How can they expect anyone from our party to ever return. We won't and we won't recommend this restaurant. Save yourselves from a sub par experience. Go elsewhere. read more

We have been to Roca & Martillo twice now and both times had wonderful service and the food was fantastic. We have traveled extensively and this is one of our favorites. First visit we had the meatballs & arancini, both very tasty. My husband had the Bolognese & I had the Duck confit, loved them both. Our second visit we tried the Quail appetizer & the baked Gorgonzola, they were both fantastic. The Gorgonzola is the best! My husband had the Brisket Lasagne & I had the Cannelloni, both really good! It is a nice atmosphere, a little loud sometimes! We even tried dessert and had the Brie-Goat Cheese tart! I even liked it and I hate Goat cheese. We will definitely be back & bring friends & family. Perfect place for a family dinner or a date night. read more

Arrived at about 7:30, and had a good sized party to celebrate my birthday. We sat in the far right corner at a larger table. I love to see SA get some culture outside of fake redneckness or cheesy Tejano stereotypes. SA is truly a diverse centrist style Southwestern metro area. It's not just bumpkin central or for Norte Mexicanos-ex pats only, we actually live in communities replete with every "ethnicity" which is rare for any big city in the USA. We are the 6th or 7th largest city after all. Speaking of the ten largest cities with just one major sports franchise (btw SA is the ONLY one and guess why, hint Neo CONfederate bane aka. D.E.I.) -- this spot is connected to the Spurs (supposed) practice facility. It's a decent attempt at doing something a bit more than commonplace. That said I like to support real attempts at giving this great city some variety. We ordered multiple apps and entrees. the servers were ok especially the trainee. our man server kind of fell off after time. At sundown the manager who was making his rounds hit the night lights. Usually a fine dining facility will lower the lights for nice ambiance. Nope. On came the 3rd degree spot lights shining right in my face. The manager who looked a bit sheepish came to our table. He asked how everything was, which was nice. I said, "not bad, but can you dim this spotlight right on me?" he said, "I dunno, let me go see..." and he left. I waited for about 10 minutes and my guests started complaining about how the food was very, very salty. I agreed. I wonder if culinary training schools or chefs especially French chefs think you just pile the salt onto meats and other foods? That's actually rhetorical. There's something to be said for having a refined palate or at least one that hasn't been wrecked by the 'Rona? Just speculating... The manager either forgot, didn't check or was avoiding me. My retinas ware being singed. I walked over to him. He was leaning on the bar, maybe anticipating a foray into the devil's tears? I dunno, just a hunch. I asked him about the dimmers. he said, "they're all on one dimmer..." I asked, "could you just dim them a bit?" He said, "no." I said, perhaps a tad" and he said,"no not going to happen... I replied, "for a nicer ambiance instead of a 'get outta my restaurant vibe'?" He said, "NOPE." I then asked him to have someone help me with drinks as we wanted to chill upstairs and the bartender up there said they were closing at 9:15 ( they close at 11 on Friday) because, no one was up there. Odd we were a party of about 10 so it made no sense unless they were calling us NOBODIES! All sarcasm aside I asked the not-so-agreeable manager (who btw promised me a dessert for my birthday, but it was lip service --- again), if he could find a server to help me carry drinks from the bar upstairs. He said sure, but you know past is prologue so... I decided to tell everyone on the rooftop that we need to dip, jet, bounce, exit the premises. When I got up there from inside they had locked them all out on the rooftop. Ooooo, insult meet injury. Anyway, now you know why my solid 1 star review. Dine at Stout's Signature at the Tobin. That's a real nice eatery. J.D., Roca's superstar chef can learn a thing or three from Mr. Stout about making a nice restaurant experience. Maybe RM's motto is mal appetit?! There goes my theory about the Spurs wanting to do something nice for SA. They could give less than zero effs about this city or its admiring fan-base after Big Dave and Manu left. The way Pop and Tim act in public towards the residents of SA is awful. Just reiterate to SA how wack you and other "on the level" types who run major sports and the country feel about this diverse and unique town. Just up and move the only thing making us major to Lost Wages already. Peace out. read more
