Literally the WORST food I've ever eaten. Awful service. $20 on food that was inedible. I wouldn't recommend this to ANYONE.

This bar is hot, the waitresses and bartenders are rude unless you are a man, they try to add shots and drinks to your tab that you didn't order. Don't drink to much at this place or your bill will be 200 more than it was supposed to be. The people that hang out there are cool that was the only reason it is getting 2 stars. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon the Rock It while in the DC area recently. We were attracted by the 1/2-price burgers, and when we went in the place had a definite neighborhood/dive bar vibe going on. And I mean this in the best way possible. The cooked to order burger (medium rare, thanks) was perfect and the fresh-cut fries were hot and delicious. The bartender was pulling double duty as waitress and she was very friendly and provided us with great service despite having a busy bar crowd to take care of. Great food and a great experience! Hopefully we'll be able to visit the Rock It again soon. read more

Went to Rock It on Sunday, early afternoon for brunch/lunch. A group of seven people sat at the bar. Bartender seemed nice but we waited a bit too long between rounds of drinks. The bartender didn't write our order down -- so he missed my husband's meal and then told another person in our group that his plate had been dropped...about 15 minutes after everyone's food arrived. Sounded like a bunch of excuses when all he had to say was, "Made a mistake, missed your order, let me pour you a drink, etc." Too much BS and no real effort to make things right. He dodged us...just disappeared from our end of the bar. The check arrived and the bartender told us that he had put a gratuity on the check already but would accept an additional tip. Get out of town! I don't have high expectations for Rock It but, please, just come clean about the mistakes! I've served and bartended before ... fess up and try to make things right. read more

It shows you have a devotion to your work/ownership and it also shows that you are committed to improving the conditions of your establishment. First - Calling Valerie (or "Valeria"?) a "hard worker" is the same problem we are facing throughout our society right now - Everyone gets a trophy. I'll try not to say your assessment is way off the mark, but from the brief snap-shot I was able to witness, she was FAR from working hard. Socializing with a group of friends and not tending to tables was more inline with what I was able to gather. Now I understand a waitress's job is in fact to socialize, but when it's directed to one specific table with which she clearly had a history with, it's hard to say she was working hard. When we sat down, nobody came to take the order, the table was sticky to the touch and there was a vacant table next to us which hadn't been bussed yet. The tip was laid out so it was clear the occupants had already left. I had to get up and wave to the bartender in order to get someone's attention. Most restaurants tend to have waitresses or waiters who come to you...Not the other way around. "Hard workers". When she did finally take our order, her explanation of the specials and the REQUIREMENTS (rules) were NOT clear and concise. You asked about the "Rules". I thought I did a pretty good job explaining this up front, but I'll go in to it with a bit more detail - Rules: As per your sign posted in the window facing King Street, it talks about Thursday being $.50 wings. It also states there is a 10 Wing MINIMUM. Underneath that, in small print it talks about having to purchase a beverage. Even though that part is covered by something in the window and hard to see, Valerie made sure to point it out when we initially ordered water with lemon. Got it - Soda, beer, wine or tea. Soda was flat, tea was unsweetened, but again - According to Valerie: "That's why there's sugar on the table." Thumbs up Val! Back to the sign and the "rules". The sign outside does NOT reflect the sign as you walk in. As you walk in, the sign says "10 Wing LIMIT". So now the two signs completely contradict themselves. Which sign is correct? So that's what I was referring to when I made a comment about the "rules". There was a list of other "rules" as you walk in and I was able to read them as I sat there with nothing to do waiting on service. I can't recall what exactly they said, but I found it humorous none the less. Rules are there for a reason, right? I guess no one's attempted to bring farm animals in to the bar yet, or else I'm sure I would've seen something in reference to that on the wall as well! Look Laura, I'm honestly not trying to be a PITA. I've just had it with piss-poor customer service and as I sat waiting in your restaurant I decided to write my first review and your place was the target. I see that you're the owner and with that comes responsibility. Valerie isn't hitting the mark...Not even close to a "hard worker". I'm sure she puts on her hard worker hat when you're around, but when you're gone, she blends right in with unsupervised employees throughout our workforce who are just filling a void and trying to get paid doing it. I've had up to (150+) employees under my charge at once throughout my career and if any of them were unable to operate under my intent through implicit communication they were either fired or put under the direct supervision of another subordinate. Take out was late being ready but that let me sit it out in the bar for a bit and watched the apparently legendary Karaoke. It is a lot of fun to watch, folks are legitimately trying hard to perform but please don't go with any high expectations. Food was so-so but open late so there's that. I'd go back. read more

My friends and I ordered a few drinks and waited for our turn to come up to sing. Before too long we were approached by a couple of dudes (one seemed drunk) who told me that I had been kicked out of there last night and needed to leave. I haven't come to this bar in about two months, actually had a date in another town last night, and told them so. They left for a little while and then returned to tell me I needed to leave as I had been kicked out of the bar last night. I have purple hair, a facial piercing and a rather large tattoo on my back, so I am rather recognizable. I was told that "I" wore a dress last night covering my tattoo and had a nose ring so I was kicked out. I offered my name and ID, as I knew that the name of the offending customer would be different from my own. I was told that they didn't know her name, but I looked so much like her that I would need to leave. I was polite about it after exhausting all reason and left after making sure that any tip I might leave to the bartender (who was perfectly nice) would go to her only. I have never experienced anything so ridiculous. The security guys offered to show the video of this other girl getting kicked out of the bar to my friends to prove it was me. I would love to see this video. I would love to see that this girl looks so much like me, has my specific haircut and the piercing on the correct side of the nose and various other things, because I can't help but feel that I was profiled as a punk chick in a redneck bar. My friends and I were also constantly harassed by some dude who kept touching us and our food. Needless to say I shan't be returning and neither should you. read more

This place always double charges your credit/debit card. If you ever come here be sure to use cash. The manager was incredibly rude on the phone when just letting her know that its happening. I guess the second time it happened was my fault, definitely some funny business going on here. read more

On a busy Friday night if you're hungry I advise eating beforehand because no waiter will come to table to take your order. I think I only saw 2 waiters 2 hours I was there. I generally like this place so if you wonder the 1 star its because I went there a few days ago bought a pitcher for $16.00 and left a $2.00 tip since my group of 4 didn't require really any service. I go home and check my bank account a few days later and instead of seeing an extra $2.00 charge on top of the $16.00 I see a $10 extra charge on top of the $16.00. I unfortunately don't have the receipt anymore. Because of this false charge I won't return. I don't like places with sevrers looking for extra cash by charging extra under the table. I love this place, I lived in Alexandria for 4 years, and on my most recent visit, it was exactly what I remembered. Let's be real, we went here because of the infamous 90s-style Rock It grill commercial. We were staying at a nearby hotel and saw this commercial, thought it was so amazing, and then when we discovered that it was right near us, I knew I had to grab my scrunchies and slap bracelet and head over. It was exactly what I imagined and more. It is the epitome of a dive bar (in a good way) with locals singing karaoke, playing pool, and drinking cheap drinks. Clearly, the karaoke is king here and people take it very seriously that even my friend who is a seasoned karaoke singer was not sure about going up against the locals. Our waiter was really nice, quick, and knew how to keep the drinks flowing. We did not try anything to eat, but from what we saw it looks like typical bar food. On a street where most drinks average $11 or more, having a causal place to get cheap drinks, and terrific people watching, makes it worth stopping in. read more

Ok so I was told by a friend to check this place out after our outing. Once I entered I already knew what kind place this was. Not too skinned toned friendly. This place was packed since it was 11:00 pm. We could only get a table by the front door. Karaoke night has already begun at 7:00 I guess. So I signed up for the mic to sing. All of sudden the DJ says if your name is already on the third page. You might not get called. So I took a chance anyway. Now granted that I knew I might not get called. I sat there and enjoyed myself anyway. Once I noticed certain people would go up to the DJ and pass him shots all of sudden there next on the mic. I said that's strange ok maybe there names was already next. Night go pass, I noticed a person who just walked in the door was on the stage. I asked the DJ if could be called next since everyone you called didn't answer. He said now you know how this works. I told him this is my first time here I never been here before. He said to me stop lying I've seen you here before. You've smoked too many blunts and can't remember! I told him I don't do those things. Before I could curse him out. He turned around and started talking to someone else. This was my first time at this spot. And my last time at this place. I had only one drink. And could see how fucked this place gets when your employees are drinking while working. I have it two stars since my drink was good. Next time I will go to a place that is race friendly. read more

OMG co-worker invited me for wings and karaoke. Ok don't judge a book by its cover yes looks like hole in wall, but the food is sooo good I ordered the burger co-worker ordered the wings and drinks. The burger was grilled I mean charcoal/bbq grilled sooooo good and my co-worker shared one of their buffalo wings they are huge and reasonably priced. Got there early but within an hour it was packed on Friday. I had so much fun DC has some talent because the people who were brave enough to get up and handle the mike were awesome. My husband and I were SO excited to sing karaoke the night we got married. I personally called weeks in advance to make sure they could accommodate us and our wedding party .Everything was set and when we arrived the place was hoppin'! There were even two other weddings celebrating there. After grabbing a drink we proceeded to the booth the sign up for a song .The man running the karaoke was extremely rude and dismissed our request immediately. He said that all the slots were filled and there was nothing he could do. The part of the night that determined why we will never be back happened when "a regular or local" walked up, gave the karaoke guy a high five and then proceeded to sign up for a song.At that point we understood there was no way we would get to sing- at that bar anyway. Our party left, disappointed and frustrated, and we ended up at another local bar and grill .This new place was more than welcoming, stayed open late, and let us sing karaoke- even though it wasn't a karaoke bar.We would not recommend Rock It Grill to anyone traveling to old town Alexandria, unless you're a local and have clout . read more

Even though I'm giving this place two stars, I should probably let you know that I go there almost every day. Monday is half-priced sandwiches with the purchase of a drink and their clubs are pretty bangin'. But the main reason I'm there all the time is because it's one block from my job and my lunch buddies are smokers and they let you smoke. The girls that work there are friendly enough, although I think they should be in school instead of working at a bar because they all look super young. But, that's neither here nor there, right? OK-so again, I have to say something about the decor--this place is a complete dive. There's really nothing attractive about it, the TVs vary in age and seem to have a progression from about 1980-present (yes, there is a flatscreen) and it looks like an old man owns it and he hasn't really bothered to throw a fresh coat on in a few.. There's a stage that I sometimes want to get up on and rock out, but out of fear they'll kick me out and that my friends will never take me out for lunch with them again, I resist the urge. However, I can only imagine what late-night crowds look like there. It's not the "coolest" place but they have cheap food, Stella (my fav beer) and it's convenient. I've only had one ridicuously bad meal there (caesar salad=gross), I'll prob continue to mosey my way on over there at least once a week. Stick to the sandwiches and you're golden. read more

DO NOT GO HERE... extremely fraudulent business. I visited Rock It Grill with some friends and had a decent time until I found out that my credit card had been double charged. I contacted the business and spoke with Rana who had been my bartender that night. She admitted to double charging my card, but did not know how or could not fix the extra charge even though she calls herself a manager. I tried numerous times to get in contact with the owner who supposedly was the only one with any authority to help me and she was never available and never returned any of my messages. Other girls I spoke to at the business were very rude and unhelpful. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! Monitor your bank statements closely if you do decide to go! read more

I went here with some friends a couple of seasons ago, to enjoy a night of comradery. We got in, and it was crowded, so no karaoke time for moi. Alright, let's see... what we really came here for was... liquor. SINGS "I could feel it go down... (sic) left the {strangest} taste in my mouth..." That vodka & red bull was very bleak/weak and I really would have done better ordering my normal cranberry & vodka. However, I ordered a round of shots for the group (about 7 or 8 of us) and little Ms. Bartender was not bubbly at all. She was more interested in how we were going to pay, and kept asking which tab to put the shots on versus the other drinks. I guess she was frustrated because it was a very busy night, and about three of us were already drunk - but I was not even tipsy yet, and really needed her to just go ahead with the order so I could enjoy myself too. My friend and the bartender got into a little shout match over the service; and, by the end of the night the receipt was soaked from a very disappointed young lady who decided that the best way to handle the situation was to pour the liquor on it. My friends are very laid-back & casual and it takes alot for any one of us to get peeved. Even the random guy who was in my ear all night had something to say about the sorry bar-tending. Let's just say the girls were hardly cute enough to be pulling off that attitude. No tips from two separate parties = bad night for them. Came here for my "Farewell" party from my current job. I really enjoyed this bar. We went on Thursday which is $0.50 wing day. These wings were made and inspired by Jesus! I mean the plain wings were awesome. I am not a saucy wing man. I really enjoyed them. Reminded me of wings my mom would make with a little Lawry's and some black pepper. Then, there were the drinks! I had gin and tonic with a lime. They were pretty decent. Nothing to really write about. However, there happy hour was pretty good. The happy hour prices for drinks range $3-5 which includes beer and well liquor drinks. The service was awesome. Our server was very attentive. She came to the table to make sure that our needs were met. She was knowledgeable of the menu and she was fast. The highlight was the karaoke. Co-workers and I believed that were auditioning for American Idol. Some of the performers would make Simon Cowell cringe. Overall, I had a blast and would absolutely return. Good dive bar, however the wait staff has no idea what you ordered or when. My friend ordered an ice tea with lemon - received a diet coke - twice. It took 3 of us to explain ICE TEA to the waitress who shrugged and still didn't get the order right. No one cleaned off the table either. We finally did as we wanted to stay - the Karoke is actually a lot of fun there. So, here's the drill - drink what you really want BEFORE coming here. Then, snag a table with a good view to the Karoke as it's either good or hilarious. Wear clothes that are okay to get stained with beer or leftover mess on the tables. Shooters are VERY overpriced. Stick with pitchers of beer or rail drinks. Also, the bouncer needs to chill. We noticed he was rather rough with a patron who sat too close to the stage. No need to manhandle. A dive is a dive. This is a good dive that needs improvement, and then it will go on my dive tour list. Until then I'll stick with the other places. read more

This is my favorite place to go for nightlife! I've always had a great time. While I love it, it may not be everyone's cup of tea. It's a dive bar, and that's actually part of why I like it. You don't need to get dressed up, but if you do, you won't feel out of place. There's a great mix of different types of people. It's not at all pretentious. The food and drinks that I've had have always been good, maybe not "great", but great for the price and fast service. So if you're in the mood to dress to the nines and go out clubbing to pick-up guys or impress your date, this is probably not the place for you. If you're in the mood to go out to a laid bad place where you can have drinks, laugh, and dance with friends, this place is perfect. read more

This place is not for cocktail drinking ladies. I was there on Friday for happy hour and karaoke. My French martini was $11. This is the most I have ever paid for a mediocre cocktail. I took my daughter there to sing, it was ok, she is semi professional and was well received. The bouncer was kind of shaky, got a bit intimidated although I guess he was just trying to do. his job to the utmost. I enjoyed the food, the nachos loaded were on point!!...Liked that is was slightly multicultural and had a variety of music. The D.J could let others sing a bit more, the wait was TOO LOOOOONGG, seemed like the same few kept singing...SMH! Not really what I was expecting on a karaoke night out with friends. Tried to reserve a table as advertised on their website, to which they said they only do reservations until 8:30.If you want a table, get there no later than 9 to be safe. If you want to sing a lot, do not come here on a Saturday night. You'll get to sing 1 song if you're lucky, or maybe 2 if you sign up again before you even sing the 1st time. Sign up as soon as you get there, preferably prior to 9:30 when the karaoke starts. The song list is not very up to date or terribly plentiful and the tracks used are poor. The DJ turns on dance music an hour and a half in, which is nice for a slow night, but not when you have 3 pages of folks wanting to sing. The place gets incredibly crowded and loud by 11pm, and the couple of pool tables are in the far back and hard to even get to by that hour. I will say, however, our server was excellent. She took everyone's order lightning quick, managed to keep all our checks separate, was friendly and upbeat, and managed to navigate that crowd without spilling a thing. read more
