We went to Rockwood tonight for the first time. The interior is beautiful. I loved the huge bar and the floor to ceiling windows. Our server was amazing. She offered suggestions when we were having trouble deciding and her recommendations were spot on. I ordered the ribs, with truffle mac and cheese and broccoli as my sides. The ribs themselves weren't quite up to my standards. However, I typically only order ribs at bbq joints so I wasn't mad about it. The sauce on the ribs was delicious. I just prefer my ribs to be a little more tender. My husband has the morning after burger, which came with a fried egg. I had quite a few of his fries and thought they were great. We also ordered a few cocktails. I had the Bull Run Mule which had jalapeño in it and my husband had the Rockwood Old Fashioned which came with a slice of bacon! We will definitely be back to this place as we have been searching for awhile for a local place that can make a proper cocktail. I had the brunch this past Sunday and it was excellent. For starters the service was amazing we walked in and as soon as we sat down our waiter came over greeted us and had water on the table, asked us additional drink orders and was back with our drinks before we even stopped chatting to get up and get our food! You'd think a brunch buffet was congested but it moved swiftly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice. It was warmer out so they had the windows open on one side of the restaurant it was nice and sunny, just added to the chill vibe of the place for the day. The buffet was replenished swiftly. Not one item was gone for long if something was getting low by the time we went around to the other side of the tables or to another station it was replenished. All of the staff was very friendly. The buffet food stayed hot. You know how sometimes with a buffet the food can be a little like warm, nope that didn't happen. There were a lot of options. Plenty of breakfast and lunch food items to choose from. Everything was seasoned well. I loved that the had some fresh fruit and veggie options also. The sautéed green beans and carrots were so yummy. The Mac n cheese was delicious, the ribs were great, empanadas crispy outside and the filling was yummy. The biscuit and gravy was tasty, they had this puffed pastry near the waffles that was so good and it had topping options. I can name more but it was all really tasty. I was there for mimosas and time with a good friend and I was pleasantly surprised when it was all excellent. You can't beat the price either for $30 you get all of those options and even shrimp, chocolate fountain and multiple dessert options on the buffet, along with a pasta, omelette and carving station. The mimosas were yummy too pretty much think of any fruit flavor and they have it. I had raspberry, pineapple and mango. Mango was probably my fave. I'll be back in the spring to try the blood orange and prickly pear. If I had a negative there was literally only one our tall table was super wobbly, so much so that a little of a mimosa spilled out on to the table but everything else was so great it didn't even bother us and we didn't even mention it to the server, we just kept talking and eating. I only got a video of the inside and buffet spread (for IG of course haha) so I don't have pics of that. Beautiful restaurant with good food, but bad service and a small menu. My husband and I went here for a date night back in July, and it took us over 20 minutes just to get drinks. We were sitting out on the patio and every table around us was being regularly waited on, but no one stopped to ask us if we'd been helped, even after it became obvious that we hadn't. There was a similar issue when we wanted to order our food, and we were glad we'd ordered an appetizer at the same time as our drinks to tide us over. I don't know if it was a communication issue about who was supposed to be taking care of us or what. Also, we were not spoiled for choice on the menu. I was surprised by how small it was - there was a larger wine and beer selection than there was food. Fast forward to this past weekend and a girls' lunch with a few friends. When Rockwood was suggested, I thought about mentioning that the last time I went there the service was awful, but I decided not to as the time with my husband was only the second time I'd been there (the first was for The Office trivia, which was absolutely PACKED). However, once again the service was terrible (and again we were seated on the patio). My mother-in-law and I arrived a little after the rest of our party, and it took about 10 minutes for someone to come out and ask us what we wanted to drink. It was during the brunch period on a Saturday, but it didn't look that busy, so I'm not sure what the issue was. There was also a set brunch menu which, like the previous dinner menu, was fairly limited. Someone else in our party asked if they had a larger menu and the waiter informed us that they didn't, that was the menu until 3 p.m. As for the food, two out of five of our orders came out incorrect. I ordered the chicken BLT with no pickle or dijonnaise, and it arrived with no dijonnaise and no bacon, but with pickle. Another person ordered the Rockwood with the peppers on the side at medium temperature, and it came out with the peppers on the burger and well done. When it was time to pay, three out of five of our checks were incorrect, either because they had the wrong drinks or were missing items. All that being said, these two experiences weren't bad enough that I wouldn't give Rockwood another chance, but I would definitely avoid sitting out on the patio - maybe service is better inside? An immediate improvement would be to have the waiters themselves bring out your food instead of the busboys, as I'm sure that causes a disconnect. Additionally, while the menu is limited, what they do have is very good. But if you like a wide array of options or are a moderately picky eater, this probably isn't the place for you. read more

Came to Rockwood to try the pasta cheese wheel. The pasta was good but I thought it would have had a little more flavor. I'm not sure if it needed more salt, garlic, or some spice to it. Needs more vegetarian options beside salad. A nice house made veggie burger would be awesome. Also as with most East coast bars, the dark beers are sadly missing from here too. A local brown, porter or stout would be great. They usually have Solace, so please rotate one of their darks in with your draft list at the bare minimum. Nice outside seating with patio games. If you go early (5/6ish for dinner) it a decent place to bring little kids without feeling like you brought them in to a beer garden. Keeps them busy. A little later and you will be in more of an adult setting I think. read more

Just had dinner here. Service was very good. Everywhere I was able to see was Clean. Both of these are very important to me in especially in these days of viruses. It's always good to see and not hope that things are clean; because if the things one sees outside of the kitchen aren't, you'll can imagine what condition things are in the kitchen. The food ordered was brought in a timely fashion and was delicious. I brought some home to savor while watching football. Our server Haylee was very attentive, polite and friendly. Stefano the Manager was also polite and more than cordial. Made sure that not only was everything good with our food, but also with our comfort. We sat outside and he made sure that we were happy with the heaters that were turned on for us. My fiancé and I went to Rockwood for the first time and were very disappointed. I just want to start by stating that we could see into the kitchen and the chef was wearing his mask under his chin the entire time we were there. I ordered the jambalaya and my fiancé preferred the short rib. The jambalaya very obviously came out of a microwave based on how quickly it came to the table and the fact that it was too hot to eat for 5 mins after being on the table. Instead of seasoning the meal they just added spice, but behind the spiciness was blandness. To top it off the dish had almost no meat in it. The short rib itself was fine, but the mashed potatoes that accompanied it were instant and what little au jus was on the plate was quickly absorbed by the mashed potatoes. Came here on Saturday 7/13/2019 and there was a group that forgot their college days were 25+ years ago. They made it unbearable to sit at the bar and then after we moved outside, they came outside and were rowdy and using foul language around children. They had apparently been over served and then some. If this is your crowd then you'll be just fine here. Food was ok but not many choices (especially if you are a Vegetarian or Vegan).The menu was dirty (see picture). Don't sit outside. It's a parking lot and the sound of Linton Hall Rd is loud. I had never been to rockwood before but the way they redid the patio is beautiful, unfortunately I went 07/31 for brunch, and my experience was terrible. The brunch is overpriced , and I had called Saturday and was told two dollars less, so I was disgruntled when I got the bill. The service was disappointing, I had a female server, the staff overall was despondent, and the morale seemed low, which affected my family's entire experience. I was not surprised when I went to use the restaurant and saw the managers overall disdain and demean his very young employees. read more

Dined at Rockwood's for lunch. My husband and I enjoyed a turkey wrap and the chopped salad with grilled chicken, respectfully. Chrissy, our server, was attentive as was the manager, Jesse, who checked on us shortly after our food was served. They have a unique twist on their fries that were very tasty. My only concern to share--the fries were luke-warm when served. Penalty? Minus a rating star. French fries aren't rocket science, they should be cooked to order and served immediately. Leaving them under the heat lamp is not a great practice for any restaurant. We'll return to Rockwood soon for a future visit. Rockwood use to be our go to place! Now all the menu changes have caused us to look elsewhere. I hope management reconsider some of their choices. To make so many drastic changes at once was a shock! I went here for the brunch buffet. They had a lot of options for lunch and brunch and after tax and tip it ended up being around 32 dollars. All of the food I had was cold but tasty. Nothing was out of this world good or really stood out to me. In the future I do not think I will get the all you can eat buffet especially since nothing really stood out to me that I tried. Great addition to the Gainesville area, and my favorite happy hour spot! I've tried more than a handful of the dishes, and never once have I been disappointed. This review only applies to those folks who are interested in finding a great spot for Sunday brunch (spoiler alert - we'll be coming back for dinner). Sunday brunch here starts at 10:30 and we arrived here by 11:30 and the restuarant was already full. After a short wait, which the hostesses apologized for, though they had no reason, we were seated near the bar. Two tops are small as expected but comfortable. All tables can look outside. They are in the process of building a good-sized outside deck. Our server, Michael, was quick to the table and did a great job telling us about the brunch. His service throughout the meal was attentive but not pushy. Great job by him! The Sunday brunch is a buffet plus a brunch menu. The buffet was well-laid out, and in line with the type of restaurant it is. The dessert station was the first station you see and it has the ubiquitous chocolate fountain and fruit but it also had a trio of mini-desserts and large cookies. My wife enjoyed the desserts very much. Sadly, I'm doing the low carb thing so I didnt share them with her. :( The other stations had a variety of cold dishes including lox, deviled eggs (Wasabi infused I believe) and a number of other tasty treats Where the brunch really shined were the hot dishes and the "fiesta station", omelette bar, pasta bar and carving station. The fiesta station fillings (steak, chicken and pork I think) were great. My omelette was perfect and the pasta bar's ads-ins looked great. The carving station had a fantastic looking roast beef as well as a whole salmon. The other hot food was great, with the arroz con polo, ribs, and fried chicken also being delicious. They also had empanadas, bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs. All of them were hot and tasty. They did a great job of keeping the dishes refreshed. All in all the restaurant was great, service perfect, and we'll be trying them for dinner soon. Also, on Sunday they do $3 mimosas and $25 magnums of champagne. I'm back after a Yelp break because I really do have to share what a horrible experience we had here last night. The only saving grace to our meal was our very sweet server, and I don't even know her name. But honestly, no part of this was her fault. Our meal was so awful, that without even talking to a manager, the entire thing was comped- so I guess they have decent customer service and are able to admit when they just completely drop the ball. We were seated and a male server takes our drink order. Three waters and an unsweetened iced tea, with a request for extra Splenda. He brings back our drinks and forgets the Splenda. He says he'll be right back with it and walks away. Two minutes later, a female server comes over and says hello. We were confused, and told her that we were already being helped, but she admitted that he was just helping her by getting our drinks. Okay, fine. So, we try to order our appetizers. Of course the one we wanted was not available that night, so no bacon wrapped shrimp for us. We decided on the deviled eggs instead. The menu said they have bacon and a garlic chip on top- we got clarification that the garlic chip is just a piece of fried garlic, so we were good to go. We then went ahead and continued to order the rest of our meals. Still no Splenda. I ordered the steak salad. When asked how I'd like my steak cooked, I replied medium. My husband ordered a burger, also medium. He asked for no bun, since we are eating Keto. Our server asked him if he'd like it in a lettuce wrap, and he said okay. He also asked to sub the fries with broccoli w/cheese. The server replied that it'd be no problem. One kid ordered chicken sliders with a side of macaroni and cheese and the other kid ordered a Cuban sandwich, very excited by the menu description that all sandwiches come with fries and a kosher dill pickle. That child definitely loves a pickle. Male server never came back with the Splenda, so nice female server went and got the husband some. The deviled eggs come out, lacking any seasoning and this garlic chip that the menu got me excited about. There was no salt on the tables, but thankfully I found the hidden stash in a cabinet near our table. When I questioned the server on the missing garlic, she checked with the kitchen who advised her that it wasn't a hit, so they removed them from the dish, but failed to update the menu. Mmmkay. So, 10 mins or so later, our food comes out. The husband's burger is over cooked, on a bun with fries. Completely the opposite of what was ordered. My steak was very over medium, although in perfect honesty, it tasted fine. If I had never been asked what temperature I would like my steak cooked to, then it wouldn't have mattered. The pork on my kids Cuban tasted horribly freezer burnt, but the worst part for her was that she didn't get a pickle. When I asked the food runner, his answer was - "yeah, well, there's a pickle on the sandwich, so you don't get another one". If that's the case, then on the menu under sandwiches, it should say " All sandwiches come with fries and a pickle EXCEPT the Cuban, which only comes with fries." Or something to that effect, because my kid was pissed. It took about 5 or so minutes for my husband's burger to come back out, wrapped in butter lettuce or something that was completely wilted. Why offer a lettuce wrap, if it can't hold up. He peeled the lettuce off and forked and knifed it like he was planning on doing all along. The broccoli on the side was clearly microwaved and sitting in probably 6oz of water. He poured it all out on his tray, and by this point we just couldn't stop laughing at how utterly awful our meal was. The manager at the Gainesville, VA location needs to be removed! Friday night I came in with my husband for dinner and I accidentally left my purse in the booth. Sunday morning I noticed it was missing and knew it was left at Rockwood. I called that morning THREE TIMES and spoke with the manager asking him to CHECK THE BOOTH where I was sitting and he refused to check by just saying "I guarantee if our servers found something they would give it to mgmt." but would not check for me. I then asked if he could at least give the server a call and see if she found anything and which he said he didn't have to do because if his servers found something he would already know. So I proceed to cancel all my credit cards (5 days before Christmas) and 30 minutes later my husband calls him to ask again to check the booth and BOOM it's there! This manager refuses to accommodate the requests of customers, especially with an important matter like a customers purse! Not only that but as someone who works with the CDC I noticed that how can a purse that was left in a boot Friday still be in the same booth 48 hours later? PROPER table cleaning is NOT being done here and that's almost as disgusting as the managers refusal to check the booth! When I went to pickup my bag, the manager was very rude and did not even offer a compensation for the trouble he has caused me or his disrespect he gave to a paying customer. This manager is NOT what mgmt should reflect and neither is the cleanliness of this establishment apparently! Very disturbing! read more

Giving it 5 stars because of the FREAKIN' AWESOME Service, Outside Seating under the trees, AND the wings! It was great to be out and about with the COVID-19 restrictions being lifted. My wife and I discovered Rockwood because Passion Fin was take-out only AND We are glad we did!!! The best Wings anywhere!!! Hands down!..and we've eaten wings on multiple continents. I'm giving this place 5-Stars because the staff at the restaurant went out of their way to make sure I had an enjoyable gluten-free lunch. When I was there on Monday for lunch before the start of the Japan v Belgium World Cup game, the noise level was just quiet enough where I could take client calls (real estate agent) but just loud enough where I could follow the game. The person serving my table was also sharp, leaving me alone during client calls and immediately coming my way before I could even ask for help. Whoever she is, she was spot on and I'm thankful for her service. I ordered the Morning After Burger because I skipped breakfast and I was starving around lunch time. I politely asked them to make that and a couple of appetizers gluten free and they gladly accommodated...No attitude, just solid customer service. The burger was def really tasty as a lettuce wrap and I definitely want to come back again whenever I have client meetings in Gainesville or Bristow. I kinda wish they had more outlets, but it's a sports bar so I'm thinking that is kind of an unrealistic expectation. In any case, keep those delicious fries coming and you'll have me for life. Not sure what happened here. We went the first time very soon after they opened and had a solid meal of a burger and the shaved prime rib sandwich. Yesterday, however, was a total mess. We went early (4:30 PM on a Sunday) and were promptly seated. We ordered 2 club sodas, asked what the soup of the day was, and when he replied cream of asparagus, my wife said, eh, not my favorite. Our waiter replied "yeah, it's kinda gross." Wait, what? My wife ordered the Acapulco Gold salad, steak medium, and I ordered the "Good Old" old fish and chips. After trying to get the waiter's attention for a good solid 10 minutes, I finally stood up, raised our empty glasses in the air and he finally noticed me. They staff seemed to be more concerned with hanging out socializing than attending to the customers. The cod was not traditional as I was expecting (since it was described as "good old"), but 4 thin strips (think long steak fries) of fish on their obligatory house cut wide curly fries. The fish was dry and stringy and just not good. My wife's steak on her salad was well done and not even close to medium. The waiter eventually showed up to see how our food was and I guess was going through the motions and didn't hear me when I said it was not good. A manager? or someone showed up when she saw I wasn't pleased and told me they'd make me a different meal immediately. I pointed out my wife's steak, and she agreed it was not medium...that was the end of that discussion apparently. I ordered the same salad and asked the steak be cooked medium-rare. After my wife waited for a bit, I told her to go ahead and eat, clearly I was at the back of the list for my salad. It eventually showed up after her plate was cleared and their idea of medium-rare was actually incredibly rare. Like, barely warm to the touch. The cooks clearly have no idea how to cook a steak, which is pretty pathetic. One is overcooked and the other basically extra-rare, or blue. I ate a few bites, realized this was a total loss, and just got the check. No manager came to check on us again and the waiter has no clue what customer service is. The plus side - they only charged for one salad and apparently do not charge for club soda. The down side(s) - see everything above. It's unfortunate. I suppose it's going to end up being just another generic bar in Gainesville like Bar Louie. read more

My wife and I go here regularly. They are willing to seat us outside even when it is cold which is important to us. They also are very COVID smart. They clean tables with a 'gun' that has a combination UV / cleaning liquid. They also have special indoor air supply cleaning / filtration / circulation specifically installed for COVID19. And their food is awesome!! Add to that occasional live music, this place is great. read more
