    Salmon Avocado Roll
    Eugene A.

Frankly, I am quite disappointed with my order at Roll Call. I phoned my order of two Salmon Avocado rolls for pick up and was ready in 15 minutes. I was given the quote in advance which was $26.23. I still went ahead with my order, so that I can try their roll for the first time. The ambiance looked trendy inside. I paid upon pickup and was quite puzzled with how small the rolls are. I don't think the size and quality justifies the price. The salmon was fresh, but I was not impressed and satisfied with what I got and ate. It tasted okay and was pretty ordinary. I felt something was lacking in terms of price, quality and quantity. I understand with costs going up during this time, but I'm sorry: Roll Call is not worth another try on my end.

Roll Call 3183 Wilshire Blvd Suite 186, Los Angeles, CA 90010 - 5/5 2/5 ($) street or public parking - Craving sushi? go ahead and try out @rollcall -- They have some of the tastiest and craziest menu items We ordered: 1. Naughty Ninja 2. La Toxica 3. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 4. Deep-Fried Philadelphia 5. Chicken Teriyaki Bowl 6. Katsu Chicken Bowl 7. Thai Tea *Note: Roll Call is also NOW AVAILABLE on DoorDash, UberEats, and Grubhub! So if you don't want to make the drive, feel free to utilize these apps The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the Naughty Ninja was super refreshing with the fresh fish and the jalapeño to top it off was just the cherry on top. La Toxica and the Deep-Fried Philadelphia rolls were actually my fave and was just a burst of flavor. I LOVED IT! it was super crunchy and paired with the spicy mayo and eel sauce was perfection. The bowls were also super delicious. The chicken katsu was super crunchy and paired so well with the warm rice. The chicken teriyaki was also super saucy and super flavorful. Overall, this was such a good place to get your sushi fix. If you're ever in Ktown, I highly recommend #invite follow @no0delle for more more info - 11am-1:30 am DAILY

Customer Service was good, sushi was fresh and made to order, I love the presentation of the to go food, very friendly, the restaurant is clean and easily accessible. The inside is nothing fancy, but it's a really nice little vibe.

Pros: sushi roll was good and fresh! Cons: the service was a 1 star! I walked in I could tell the owner was there he has orange hair and had his laptop and personal items on a table. Also prices are pricey $25 for 1 roll and a sparkle water and 1 miso soup. (Rice less roll) Here's the problem no greeting no smiles stood around for a while and the staff seemed sad, quiet and the owner called someone from the back to take my order. I felt unwelcome and also I had already been trying to find parking. They have a sign on the side in the blg stating they pay for parking as long as you dine in. I would suggest increasing customer service starting with management clearly lead by example. Secondly always greet customers it's important and also I witnessed a door dasher picking up 6 + bags of an order. He struggled out the door and nobody offered to get the door they just stared at him struggle to the car. Again customer service was not the key here. Thats the reason of the negative reviews. I'm not a local but came across this spot today and this is my true review! #EliteYelper

Hands down one of the best sushi spots I've been to for lunch. Everything was fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. The rolls were creative without being over-the-top, and the fish just melted in your mouth. The service was warm and attentive without being pushy, and the atmosphere was perfect--chill but elevated. Highly recommend Roll Call if you're looking for something delicious. I left full, happy, and already planning my next lunch visit. A total gem!

I've ordered a few times from this spot now, although I haven't gone in person, but so far the DoorDash deliveries have been phenomenal. Their packaging makes their sushi taste almost as fresh as directly in store. I ordered the crispy rice, spicy tuna, and was pleasantly surprised on how crispy it still was! Their sukiyaki beef bowl portion sizes were huge and their sauces are packed so well. This is the kind of service that will make u keep reordering! I will definitely visit this spot in person soon.

Best sushi in Los Angeles. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and well crafted, from classic rolls to poke bowls. The flavors were balanced, fish quality stood out, and portions felt satisfying. The staff was welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better.

New packaging for their DoorDash order. Love it. Always quality sushi - though in the expensive side. One day I will try eating there.

Rolls on rolls on rollllsss! This place got options! On this particular visit we only tried their sushi rolls but they also have Chinese food options as well. The rolls were all tasty, good balance of rice, fish, sauces, and good portions. Our favorite was La Toxica roll! The cream cheese tied everything together with the spicy eel sauce, delicioussss! Put that sauce on everything ! All in all, the place was nice , open and clean, the staff were super friendly, fun names for their rolls, and the food was tasty, we would come back to try more of their other items. Don't forget to get the Thai iced tea, perfection! Tip: Free 2 hour parking off Shatto in the garage. Big plus for koreatown!

Walked in and was not greeted nor didn't know it was pay at counter and seat yourself since it was our first time there and the cashier didn't bother explaining and just watch me stand there until I had to ask. After that it was pretty simple to order from their menu at the register. After the rolls came I had to ask for plates. We ordered the emperor roll, salmon double trouble roll, and the holy grail roll. They were good but tasted pretty basic to me and heavily drenched in sauce.

Roll Call has all different types of rolls from the classics, multiple types of fish, and cooked as well. Not only do they have rolls but they also have yummy appetizers and bento boxes. Every roll had a little amount of rice and stuffed with fish. The prices here are amazing and I can't wait to tell my friends and family. Definitely a bang for your buck and how sushi should be! Pro Tip: park in the validated parking structure, it's free ;)

It was a but busy when we got there but luckily we got seared pretty shortly after arrival. We originally wanted to sit at the bar, but opted for a table for less wait time. When first looking at the menu we were shocked by the prices. I knew immediately i wanted to get the hui tou potstikers with pork and noodles. We ended up adding on the hongkong style wontons too. To my suprise the wontons arrived in a delicious and warm broth, keeping them perfectly moist and plump. The broth was so delicious even on a hot day, tasting faintly of sesame and scallion. Despite both dishes being pork they were so different and equally amazing in flavor. The pan fried potstikers which were CRISPED TO PERFECTION especially reminded me of black bean shortribs that you get from dimsum, fatty but hearty and had me wanting more and more each bite. The minced pork noodles were to no suprise, so good. Noodles tasted fresh, the sauce was umami with mushrooms and pork. While im not the biggest fan of mushrooms, i still ate it up. I feel it would be so good with some picked cabbage too to complement the saltiness. Most notable thing... THAT CHILI OIL. We probably used almost half the jar left at the table. It wasnt spicy at all, but it had this flavor that i genuinely have never tasted before. The texture of the chilli and sesame and the nutty flavor had me in awe. Enough to take two jars home... i would do it again. Servers were so quick, made sure everything we needed was at the table. Regardless of the crowd we were met with promptness and generosity. This that wonton place your girl tells you not to worry about forreal. Will be coming back despite the long drive from home.

That was my first mistake -- they don't even serve mu shu pork. That one's on me for not checking the menu first. I ended up getting my kung pao chicken and settled for the Mongolian beef, and veggie egg rolls. The Mongolian beef I could definitely pass on. The kung pao chicken was good at first, but somehow lost its flavor as the meal went on. The egg rolls were just okay. Nice and crispy on the outside, but too mushy on the inside for my liking. I was also pretty surprised (and a lot sad) that they didn't have hot mustard. The tea was really good though! Service was fine. The server was attentive, just clearly busy keeping up with all the takeout orders coming through. Ambience is definitely on the lower side here, so don't come expecting a nicer Chinese restaurant. It leans more Santa Ana burger joint vibes. That said, everything felt clean and they were pumping out a ton of takeout orders while we were there, so clearly they're doing something right. Overall, it just didn't hit for me, and I don't see myself coming back.

Then I went back to Firstborn twice within three months. This newly listed 2025 tasting menu spot actually made me feel a little hopeful about LA fine dining again. The shiso with razor clam and beef cheek cochon, and the black cod with green Sichuan pepper mala noodles, are both full-on collisions between deep animal savoriness and sharp, vivid spice. Then dishes like roasted artichoke and morel stuffed with green peas bring the seasonality into clear focus. The menu is not huge, but every dish has a defined structure and a bold sense of movement. On paper, it reads a little mysterious and intimidating; once you eat it, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and honestly, it gets addictive. The ingredient selection and handling are also seriously thoughtful. Take the aged duck main course. I am very much a "if there is duck on the fine dining menu, I'm ordering it" person, and I've had plenty of beautifully rich, tender duck breasts. But Firstborn's version, beyond being tender and luscious, had that Cantonese sense of "gan xiang" -- the sweet, savory aroma you get from naturally air-dried, aged meats. For a second, I had this flashback to going with my family as a kid to Xing Fu Lou in Wenquan for Lutian cured meats during winter solstice. Absurdly good. Calling it the Duck King of the West Coast does not feel excessive. On my second visit, the truffle and wild mushroom "gnudi" was also excellent. The moment it hit the table, that intense truffle aroma made me think of the deep, earthy punch of French Périgord black truffle. But then I thought, wait, where are they getting Périgord in June? Turns out they were using Australian winter truffle, perfectly in season. That sourcing logic is smart. It is not expensive for the sake of being expensive; it actually understands the flavor window. The fire-grilled lamb saddle on the second visit was just as strong. It preserved the soft, tender texture of the cut without losing that sweet, milky lamb flavor. Grilled over open flame to a rosy medium rare, the flavor, doneness, and ingredient choice all landed. To me, a great restaurant comes down to three things: concept, ingredients, and seasoning. Some fine dining places love making everything complicated, stacking seven or eight ingredients together, serving a dozen-plus courses, and by the end you feel exhausted and sleepy. Firstborn is the opposite. It is unconventional, but from amuse-bouche to dessert, every dish explains its own logic clearly. Final feeling after the meal: addictive, interesting, and absolutely worth coming back for.

My friend's cocktail tastes very so so too. The restaurant is nice and clean. We were there to celebrate a birthday, but we didn't know the restaurant doesn't have any candles. They didn't offer to sing a birthday song or anything for us. I really don't think we will come back again. Not recommended.
