I went here for dinner with some friends and thought they had decent food and cocktails, really cute atmosphere, good service. It was super overpriced, like $35 for a stir fry bowl with chicken plus $16 for a cocktail, plus their menu prices are all based on cash payment and they add a 4% surcharge if you use a credit card. As if their overpriced menu couldn't list cover the credit card fee, I don't think I've ever seen that at a restaurant before. Not sure I'd come back because of that, there are plenty of other places to go around Tampa. read more

I brought my puppy with me for brunch on National Dog Day! We had a nice table on the patio area that was covered with an umbrella. They do have fans outside as well. It was still hot, but that's Florida summer. Our server was kind enough to bring me a small bowl of blueberries for my puppy to munch on. To drink, I had their new lemon amaretto cocktail. Came here to try the trending espresso martini tower and it did not disappoint. I loved the four different flavors of espresso which included lavender, caramel, traditional, and a spicy tequila version. I shared it with my friend and the waitress said they equal about 2.5 each. For date night we decided to go to Rome + Fig. We were pleasantly greeted and started looking at the menu. The Surf and Turf three course immediately stood out to us as a great deal so we went with that. Throughout the meal I couldn't help but notice that it gradually got worse. By far the best thing I ate that night was the first course, the Mushroom Roulade. The filet mignon in the Surf and Turf was bland, and I could taste the burnt bits. Although, it was cooked medium rare as we've asked the bland,l and slightly burnt taste was not pleasant. The same thing can be said about the broccoli, bland. However, the shrimp and the risotto were delicious. The service was attentive and helpful which is a big plus in my book. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience, and for the most part I enjoyed my meal. I was a bit disappointed seeing the 4% surcharge for Credit cards because you would already assume that if you're paying almost $50 for a filet mignon the credit card fee would be included. Came here for Sunday brunch and had the Lobster Benedict. I thought it was very good, but the eggs were a little more poached than I care for...I like the yolk to be a little runny, and they were mostly solid. It was also missing something...maybe little more plate? While attempting to slice into my burnt English muffin, a decent sized chunk of lobster slid right off my plate and onto the table, which was disappointing because there were only two decent chunks and few smaller pieces. Very small plate. I would also recommend ordering a side of potatoes or grits...the side greens didn't cut it, I was hungry again by the time I got home. Service was good and the ambiance was nice, I'd come here again because the food I saw being delivered at the tables looked really good, and the dinner menu looks interesting. I think I missed that it was $20 for 2 scallops which I think is a bit ridiculous. Come on, how much are food costs that you can't provide 3 scallops which seems like a bit of a normal portion. So my risotto which is just rice was $22 and my 2 scallops were $20. $42 for a risotto dish seems a bit absurd. When the check came, they added a credit card processing fee of 4% prior to asking if we were paying cash. They menu dues state that the prices are in cash Anyway, I just think this place is way too over priced. I know things are changing quickly in the restaurant industry but this seems a bit much. I almost gave the restaurant 2 stars but decided on 3. The food was good but the value was terrible. read more

I have been wanting to try Rome + Fig for a while and I finally had the chance when I and a group of friends made a reservation for 1:30 Brunch on Saturday. Now the restaurant is technically closed from 2 to 4 pm but they allow reservations at 1:30 and allow guests to continue their meals during this window of time. We had a wonderful server, Abbie, who made us feel welcome and took our orders quickly. The aesthetic of the restaurant is very chic and clean. Rome + Fig definitely has the look down. Now for the Brunch menu, it was a one page menu which I did not mind at all. I think there were still a decent amount of options. I ordered the Truffle Fries and the Lobster Benedict. I really enjoyed the Truffle Fries. The green garlicky sauce that came with the fries was DELICIOUS. Now for my main dish, the Lobster Benedict, I was a little underwhelmed. The dish was good but I wasn't amazed. I've had plenty of Benedict dishes before, and I've had better. In terms of portions, I will say you likely won't be satisfied with the Lobster Benedict alone because it is such a light dish. Nonetheless, my friends and I were enjoying our experience at Rome + Fig up until we heard an employee (Anthony) tell our waiter that we should leave the restaurant. He was at the registers right by our table as he told our waitress. I could see from his face that he was visibly annoyed and I don't understand why. We made a reservation through OpenTable for 1:30. The Hostess reassured us that they accept reservations up to 1:30 and that customers are allowed to comfortably finish their meals even though the restaurant is temporarily "closed" between 2 to 4 pm. Came on Friday night and was positively surprised. It is located in the residential area surrounded by Appartment complexes. Area is relatively quiet. They have lots of outdoor and indoor seating. Nice restaurant for a date night. I was here for a late dinner. I had reservations for 10:30PM on a Saturday, but when we arrived, the place was nearly empty. I had booked for the surf and turf, but when I arrived, they offered the regular menu, and as I don't love filet mignon, we opted for the regular menu, which was still small, but gave us more options. We shared the fried green tomatoes caprese to start. The tomatoes were nicely fried, and it was a nice starting dish. For our mains, my husband got the scallops, and I got the short ribs .The scallops were 4 huge diver scallops, and they were nicely seared. I thought they smelled fishy, but my husband seemed to enjoy them. The short ribs were fine. I liked the tempura mushrooms, but otherwise, the dish was good but not innovative. For dessert, we shared the cheesecake, and my husband got a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. The dessert was fine. The wine list was fine, but the red wines were too young for us. My husband ordered a mojito, and he thought it was pretty sub-standard. I had a nice glass of rose, and then I had an espresso martini with dessert. The espresso martini was excellent. Great place to dine with friends and family. I chose this place because the menu looked pretty diverse, and they offered a happy hour menu on a Saturday night. The restaurant has nothing to do with Rome or the Fig fruit. It is the cross streets for the restaurant, but I'm sure they could do something great with figs and Rome. The location was ideal for where I was staying near downtown Tampa and eventhough taking a ride share is the best option, they do have a few parking spaces in a private lot and there is some street parking. I made a reservation for an inside table, but there is a great casual seating area outside with lots of umbrella covered tables. We did have a slight issue with the hostess upon entering, but after talking with the owner, Christine, she made everything perfect. Thanks to her, I will be spreading the word on how great this place is. We started with the Vodka Cucumber Gimlet. Smooth and more sour than sweet and so delicious that I drank 2 of them. From the Happy Hour menu, we had to try the Asian Wings, Fried Green Tomato Caprese, and Tuna Tartare. They are a smaller portion than the regular menu, which was perfect for trying a few and still having room for a meal. The 4 wings were cooked perfectly, and the sweet, sticky, finger licking good sauce was just wonderful. The crispy wontons with the tuna tartare had little bits of chopped apple that was creative and gave just the right amount of sweet crunch and mixed well with the other ingredients. The fried green tomato slices were not greasy at all, and the creamy mozzarella cheese slices in-between with a light balsamic drizzle was similar to other restaurants but this dish was just so fresh that we were scraping the plate clean. In case you might be vegan, they do have a few items to satisfy those desires, too. For our main courses, we ordered the Kale Caesar Salad and added shrimp, which were quite large and super tender. The kale was very fresh, and the dressing was not super lemony, but I really liked the flavor. The Crispy Pork Belly was such a pretty, artistic display of meat and flowers. All edible! The Jerk Salmon with a creamy sofrito sauce was a nice blend of spices cooled by a light cream sauce on small pasta noodles. It's definitely a filling portion. We don't usually order a dessert, but thankfully, we ordered the Biscuits with lemon cream and fresh berries. Oh my, that was light, and the berries were delicious. Our server Abbie was simply the best. She is a fantastic server with great knowledge of the menu. I highly recommend asking for her and taking any tips that she has to offer. This time around we just went to have a drink at the bar but the bar was full so we were sat at a large community high top table in the bar area which was perfect. The bartenders served our drinks. Today, for brunch, we went to Rome + fig. I had made the RSVP for 2, and then my older daughter decided to come with us. I was pleased that they accommodated us without issue. Our server Yidania attended us as soon as we sat, and she was very nice. I was pleased that they were able to make my younger daughter a mocktail version of For You Karen. I had the Grand Empress 75, and my older daughter had the regular For You Karen. All our drinks were great. For appetizer, we had chips and guac and the Truffle fries. The guac was bland, and the fries were excellent. We were not impressed by the other selections. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs and was so confused by the presentation. Why place them on the corner of such a big plate? I love the overall atmosphere of the place. After eating, we went outside and we took lots of pictures I should have paid more attention to the charge, as I don't know why they charged me for NA beverage total and the CC sruchahe 4%. It's so exciting to see this part of West Tampa coming to life. Rome & Fig is an interesting addition to this area, and I'm curious to see if they can make it work here. The restaurant has gone with the industrial look, softened by plants, and there is seating inside and out. Parking is available in a lot behind the restaurant, or on the street. Let's start with the great: 1) Our waitress Imani (I'm sure I've butchered the spelling) was outstanding. Knowledgeable, friendly, efficient - she was everything you could want in a server. 2) The fried green tomato caprese, with fried green tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, baby heirloom tomatoes, Marcona almonds, pesto, truffle oil, and balsamic drizzle. Perfectly cooked tomatoes, fresh cheese, plenty of pesto, which included whole pine nuts too, and just the hint of truffle. I loved it. 3) The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere, with very comfortable seating. The good: 1) The Mediterranean Plate was fine, and according to the menu it consisted of hummus, whipped goat's cheese, pita, tabbouleh, peppers, carrots, cucumber, and pine nuts. Looking at the picture I took of my platter, the one I received was slightly different, but still decent. 2) The dessert of Caramel Apple Empanadas was also good, and consisted of spiced apples, salted caramel, vanilla ice cream, and cinnamon sugar. The bad: 1) The bar: I walked in at 5:00 pm, with one couple eating in a corner at the bar, and the rest of the bar counter was entirely dirty. 2) The bartender: came over, no greeting, and proceeded to place menus on the dirty counter. He did clean it when requested, though. Then he had to be asked for the happy hour menu. 3) I ordered a margarita off the happy hour menu, and it was honestly one of the worst ones I have ever had. I don't expect it to be the best for $8, but I still hope for drinkable. 4) At the table I ordered one of their specialty drinks, a chai old fashioned. Specialty cocktails are $15 so I was looking forward to something outstanding. Nope, it was just like drinking a poor, basic old fashioned, with maybe a hint of chai, if I was being optimistic. With entrée prices hovering around $40 each, and marginal cocktails at $15, I have mixed emotions about my visit, with the end result being I'm in no hurry to go back. read more

First and foremost, Rome + Fig is a beautiful restaurant with a well crafted menu in a convenient location in North Hyde Park. The service was typical, nothing special but not bad at all. On to my dinner: * French Onion Soup (vidalia, leeks, shallots, housemade beef stock, brioche crouton, cheddar, provolone, swiss) -$12. The flavor on this was incredible and probably the best French onion soup I've had. I was disappointed in the lack of cheese on top though to make a picturesque cheese pull and use the included scissors. 4.5/5 * Hasselback Poutine (idaho potato, braised short rib, osso buco gravy, three cheese mornay, scallions) -$16. Great appetizer that was filling enough for me to eat as my entree. Presentation was a bit sloppy and could have used more meat. The potato also felt like it lacked seasoning but the cheese sauce and gravy made up for that. 4/5 * S'mores Torte (flourless chocolate torte, vanilla graham cracker crumble, toasted marshmallow meringue) -$12. I loved that this dessert came out warm and was not overbearingly sweet. Due to natural dryness of a flourless cake, it definitely could have used ice cream (perhaps a graham cracker ice cream to make it more "s'mores like") to moisten it a bit as the marshmallow meringue was not enough. 4/5 with potential to be great. Overall, I felt the dishes I ordered had missing components to complete/enhance the dish and this left Rome + Fig to be a 4/5 to me. The atmosphere is nice, it is extremely hot and we sat inside. We were sweating the whole time. The service was ok, the food took FOREVER to come and the server seemed very busy with other tables. It took them 10 minutes to come and pick up our checks. The food overall was a 6/10 nothing out of the ordinary, actually kind of flavorless and my bacon was burnt. I have only dined here for brunch, and have enjoyed the country breakfast, two egg breakfast, avocado toast (which includes bacon!) and the grilled cheese + tomato soup... all were delicious and worth ordering again. Only negatives include a $4 up charge for a side of bacon, that only comes with 2 slices and are paper thin (you could hold these up to the light and see your friends through it), and slow service despite having multiple tables available. I went in on a Sunday for brunch by myself and sat at the bar. I was acknowledged but it took a while for me to get a drink order put in. I order a basic breakfast with eggs, toast, potatoes, and I added steak tips. When I ordered, I wasn't prompted for a temperature for my steak. When my breakfast arrived, the steak was rare. I don't eat my steak that way so it was tasty but I didn't eat all of it because it wasn't cooked to order. Also, my toast that was supposed to come with my breakfast, didn't come out until after I had already finished my food. This was a very tough review to write. We really really wanted to love Rome + Fig, not just like it. Friends rave about it. Unfortunately our experience was 3-star being totally objective. That said - quite likely we would return to try it again. Highlight - service was excellent, restaurant itself was attractive and very comfortable. we especially appreciated the table not being scrunched together. Started with ribs and the soft-shell crab. The ribs were meh at best - not hot, or even warm. One of the 3 was tough to the point of inedible. I was told it was 1st day of a new recipe - back to the drawing board with this one. Crab was good. We had the Chilean sea bass which was excellent - well prepared and tasty. These are the highlights. I had the bison meatballs appetizer as my main course along with spring strawberry salad. The meatballs were cool, certainly not hot or warm. They were nothing special and actually tough - they were chewy and required a knife to cut. I definitely would not try them again. The salad was pedestrian at best - not particularly tasty in any way. Had maybe 3 drops of dressing. As for the cocktails - not inspiring in any way. We ordered several old fashioneds - basically what you get is a glass with a large square ice cube, some bourbon (price depends on which bourbon you chose) and some other unknown ingredients so they could call it an old fashioned and add a surcharge. Blah at best - had I known it would be this uninspired I would have either just ordered a good bourbon and skipped the pretense of it being an old fashioned. As for the deserts - nothing "spoke to us" very limited selections. I really really wanted this to work. Will try again. read more

The cocktails were strong and the appetizers were good. Loved the Bison meatballs but the prices are a little high in my opinion. Took a star away for cost.
