On a recent visit, I ordered 12 Duck Fat Fried Chicken Wings & Duck Fat Fries. They told me it would take about 10 minutes for my order to be ready so I wandered around a bit and when I came back at that mark my food was indeed ready....

When you order the wings, you get the entire wing - not just drums and flats - so 12 pieces for $26 seemed like a fair price to us. The wings were fried to perfection, so the meat easily came off the bone with very little if any "residual meat" not bitten off. The wings don't come sauced and don't have any deep flavor on their own so you will need to rely on their packaged sauces to come through on that. My favorite sauce was their West Indies Hot Sauce. Although I was expecting a bigger kick of heat than it offered, I enjoyed the flavor. The Honey Mustard and Sweet & Spicy BBQ sauces were fine, but nothing revolutionary. The fries, too, were satisfying - they were perfectly crispy but not heavy or greasy. Again, no flavor punch but a good fry, nonetheless. I'll look forward to trying some of their other items - such as their sandwiches - the next time we're here.

I'm generally not a chicken sandwich kind of girl, but this was everything. Each individual component was perfectly seasoned. The chicken was cooked to perfection, not dry at all. The sweet potato bun was a nice touch, though I didn't get a ton of sweet potato flavor, but the s of it all...the homemade honey mustard and sweet tea. Chef TD is everything. I'll definitely be back.

Came here for lunch one day during work. It's in Legacy Hall so a lot of other food options around as well and can get busy for lunch. When I walked up, the person taking my order was very short with me and not friendly at all so was a little worried at that point. I got the chicken strip combo which comes with four chicken strips, fries, a dipping sauce, and a drink. It was around $15 so a decent price for the amount of food. All the food is said to be fried in duck fat. Having cooked with duck fat before, I did not get that flavor coming through at all. The chicken strips were still good and I enjoyed the flavor of them very much. I got the hot sauce for dipping and it was really good. The fries on the other hand were bland and nothing special. If I go back, I would just get the chicken and sauce and avoid the fries.

The restaurant did not live up to the hype for me. I was so excited to try it but a resounding no for me. The chicken was greasy and that is putting it mildly. The chicken was very dark as well. The good note is the mac and cheese was awesome as well as the fries. The mgr at first asked us how was it and I lied and said fine. Then I said to my hubby let me tell her the truth. She thanked me for being honest and she appreciated me. I suggested maybe the oil was old. She checked it and suggested maybe she fried it too long. With that said she refunded our money and apologized again. She even offered to fry us more chicken and we were like no thanks ok.

The meat is incredibly juicy and tender, with that irresistible melt-in-your-mouth quality. It's like chicken on a whole new level, where the duck fat brings a deep, luxurious flavor that takes it from great to "I need more right now." Take home message: so glad chef Tiffany Derry is making her presence known in Dallas. Can't wait until she opens in DeSoto!! I was in town visiting and this was a spot I bookmarked to visit. Chicken fried in duck fat, how could you go wrong with that?! Sad to say I was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED! NO FLAVOR!!!! The chicken itself was fried perfectly with a nice crunch that came out piping hot, but the flavor wasn't there . The fries were also unseasoned and needed every bit of the ranch dressing. If they would just seasoned the darn chicken it would've been an easy 5 star rating.

I've been to Tiffany's Italian restaurant, which was underwhelming. However, I have heard that her fried chicken is amazing and a must try. Met a friend for dinner at Legacy Hall. It's a weeknight. So, the Hall wasn't too crowded or busy. I was able to walk right up and order. The gentleman at the counter that took my order was nice and said that it would take 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. My friend already had her dinner. I hoped it would be with the wait. I walked over at approximately the time my order was to be ready and waited. Everything was served hot and fresh off the fryer. For freshly fried chicken, it was not soggy or greasy - but it was also not crunchy like one would expect fried chicken to be. Instead the outer part of the chicken was dry, not as bad as leather but dry. The inside was moist. Not much seasoning at all. It absolutely needed the sweet and hot bbq sauce. The fries were another story. They were perfectly cooked, crispy, and delicious. I honestly loved those fries. Overall, it was underwhelming. Honestly am kicking myself for not going to another place there to eat.

OMG!!! I came for the chicken sandwich and ended up pairing the chicken sandwich, with the fried fish sandwich as well. It's always a win for me, when a chicken sandwich is made from a piece of chicken thigh than breast. The chicken was moist and season perfectly. The breading was super crispy, the same can be said about the fried catfish sandwich. The seasoning, and the batter made this fish sandwich.

That was a pretty good chicken sandwich but I probably wouldn't go back. I'm teetering between 3 and 4 stars. It was a nice sized breast with tasty toppings. However, most of the seasoning was muted. I really had to concentrate to get the flavors and the spice. The service leaves a lot to be desired. The woman at the cash register had little personality. The lady in front of me had ordered a fish sandwich without tartar sauce. So, they disassembled her sandwich at the counter and rebuilt it on a new bun. I felt bad for her. When I came back for my chicken (you have to wait because it's cooked to order), I felt bad for the person whose fries were just sitting on the tray on the counter getting cold. Then I realized that they were mine. Whomp whomp!

I have had their fried chicken before but their fish sandwich was absolutely delicious! It's inside the Legacy Food Hall. The service is always outstanding and I love the food presentation. Every vegetable was nicely placed on the sandwich and the sauce was not too much. The fries were good, just fries fried in duck fat. Whenever I go back to the Legacy Food Hall, I'm getting this sandwich every time!

I had the six piece wings and mac and cheese. The wings were nicely seasoned and fried, just how I like them. I wasn't too fond of the mac and cheese, but it was fair. Edit for update! As expected, full 5 stars when I got to return and try them fresh. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it is not disappointing in any way. It is absolutely massive and so full of flavor. The chicken is tender and juicy and tastes incredible. The makeup of the sandwich itself is a great balance. I only wish they had another location so that I didn't have to brave where they are currently. It's worth it, though. ------------------- I had this at a catered event and wow. If the food was this good after sitting out in a corporate setting, I can only imagine how good it is fresh. I look forward to going back and getting something fresh. I wanted to leave this review as a way to remind myself to head back. I am certain this will be turned into a 5 star review when I return. I'll be sure to grab a great picture, too. Incredible fried chicken absolutely packed with flavor through and through. Not just the breading, but the meat itself is obviously very well taken care of. Yum!!

The chicken wings and fries were absolutely amazing. They had great flavor, and texture to them and were made great! The nuggets were small and not as flavorful. Overall, the food was really good I did have a very negative experience interacting with the person who worked the front counter who was extremely rude, and disrespectful. Was not friendly when taking my order, which is fine but gave me an extremely hard time when I asked for the sauce that was included with the chicken nuggets I ordered. Told me, I had to ask for it beforehand when ordering even though she never asked me if I wanted sauces and I don't know of any restaurant that expects this when it says the sauce is included with the meal I ordered. She literally yelled at me when I politely asked again apologizing that I did not know that and that it says on the menu it's included. She never ended up giving me the cluckin sauce, and I just gave up as I was tired of being chastised and disrespected over a very trivial thing. It is to bad because the food was really good, and I hope that the restaurant doesn't lose business when they have a quality product because they have their employees acting very mean and hostile towards customers.

I'd ordered something else from somewhere else and a coworker ordered a chicken sandwich from them, and a he was raving about how delicious and tasty and moist the chicken was. So I tried the chicken strips, just to see what the hype was all about. Yes! The batter, the chicken, the fries, everything was incredibly delicious. I was excited to try the duck fat wings and fries, and it was just okay. The chicken wing batter and seasoning just tasted very basic. The wings were moist, but were tiny, the size of my index finger. The duck fat fries tasted like regular fries. In my opinion, $13 is expensive for 6 pieces of small wings. I will not be going back. Not sure exactly what my daughter ordered but they seemed to be chicken tenders perfectly deep fried with super moist meat--yum! Maybe they were boneless wings. The sauces were decent, nothing to go crazy over, but the chicken was worth it. Their sweet tea is an amalgamation of flavors and tasty as well + plus free refills. I really enjoyed this place. It is really good I got the tenders And duck fries. I went twice because I really enjoyed it. The third time I went it was during the day 1ish or 2ish, I tried the wings the only problem with that was when I made it home the wings were not fully done Bummer I could still see some blood coming out my chicken. It just lets me know to go at night when the other crew comes and only order chicken tenders . I'm still giving them 4 stars overall the food is good and service is good as well read more

I really wanted to like it and was excited to try it. I got the Spicy Bird, fries and a sweet tea. $15.65. For that price, it better be top notch. The chicken was mostly breading and very little, if any meat. My sandwich was cold. I asked for honey mustard and BBQ sauce and was given a portion cup with no more than a TBS in each. Ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and received a very pretty platter. However, once I bit into the sandwich it was total and utter trash. The chicken looked delicious, it looked enormous... looked is the key word here. The actual chicken was a fatty part thigh with uncooked breading stuck between some of the fatty dark meat. I didn't eat any of it. So much potential but zip, zilch, nada. Total let down. skip this at all costs. Trash. read more

Tried for the first time yesterday and Roots knocked it out of the park! Chicken fried in duck fat??? Yesss!!!!!! Very flavorful and the dipping sauces complemented chicken very well. My side dish was the Caesar salad (has Kale) topped with anchovies. Never tried it this way, but it was great. Yesterday I went to Roots Chicken Shack at Legacy Hall, ordered 3 wings, fries and a drink ($15) SUPER DUPER DISAPPOINTED!!! I've had chicken fried in duck fat before and it was amazing. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE POOREST TASTING/REPRESENTATION OF A WING MEAL I'VE EVER HAD. I'm sorry. This pic is my 3 wings???? Sitting next to the wing is a regular size rampkin with sauce..as you can see, the wing isn't big as the daggum rampkin???? SERIOUSLY?? The fries had some kind of house seasoning on them and were great plus they have an in-house made sweet tea and a blue punch with fruits in it - Phenomenal. 10/10 everything is SO good!! If you imagine what a perfect bite of fried chicken should taste like - this is that!!! This place was a surprising hit! We couldn't decide on the last place we wanted to try (after bao (thumbs up) and street tacos (thumbs down)) so we settled on the fried chicken sandwich at Roots. Came here after being disappointed by the so-called "Christmas Village" event that Legacy West was having. The reviews looked great so we decided to try it out! Idk if it was the fact that I was disappointed with the event or what but the food was just meh and overpriced imo. I had ordered the 6 duck fat fried wings,a spicy chicken sandwich and a side of duck fat fries. $13 of the total cost was for the 6 tiny wings! You get more for the same price with Korean fried chicken! The wings are much bigger, and they actually come with small side dishes! My hubby said that his chicken sandwich was mostly batter and was hard to eat b/c the sandwich was sooo tall. My wings were tiny and tasty, but I was still hungry after finishing them off... The duck fat fries were raved to be the "best fries you'll ever have", but after biting into a few, they're just ordinary and nothing to be wowed by. $6 for a small boat... My husband and I tried this place after searching for some good chicken in the Frisco area. He found it in Legacy Hall...and let me tell you that chicken was sooooo good and flavorful. We had the chicken wings and the chicken strips with fries. The chicken was so tender and the breading was perfect. The food was also fresh. We had the sweet and spicy sauce and the ranch...both amazing. We will definitely be back. Things didn't go unnoticed with me when we went this time this past Tuesday (a summer weekday). Our server was Michael and I want to give a proper shoutout to him for caring for our table. He would switch out our plates and utensils (which I didn't notice if previously the servers/waiters did that before and he just did so swiftly too) as well as he would make sure we were comfortable the entirety of our time there. What stood out to me was I even stated I share a menu item with one of my cousins (unrelated note: the Squid Ink Tonarelli is fragrantly spicy and good every time for me it's so good highly recommend btw) and he put in word to put the pasta into two bowls so it would be convenient for us to share. I can tell he was a detail oriented type of person (or perhaps the place was under new management) but regardless I just wanted to properly thank Michael with this review. One more thing I noticed was at the end of our lunch the staff went towards the kitchen due to what I can only assume a machine malfunction or were understaffed in the back so both the servers/waiters/staff were teaming up to fix the issue at hand. It took time and we left as they continued to fixing. So just to say with all that going on and on top of it all handling it with class and professionally did reach to me. Since it was a busy Saturday evening, the longer wait time wasn't an issue, we expected that. Our server was fantastic and made the experience enjoyable despite what happened. She handled everything professionally and was attentive throughout the meal. The problem came when one of our pasta dishes had a long black hair in it. We understand that mistakes happen. We brought it to our server's attention, and she immediately took the dish back and put in a rush order to have it remade. About 20 minutes later, she came back to let us know it was almost ready and that the manager would be bringing it out. Another five minutes passed, but our server ended up bringing the replacement herself. At no point did a manager come to our table to apologize, acknowledge the issue, or check on us. What was even more disappointing was how the situation was handled afterward. After waiting roughly 25 minutes for the replacement dish and receiving a meal that originally contained a hair, the restaurant chose to comp his dessert instead of the pasta. While the gesture was appreciated, the dessert was less expensive than the entrée that had the issue. It just felt like a missed opportunity to make things right. We've always enjoyed dining here and will likely be back because our past experiences have been so positive. However, the lack of manager involvement and the way this situation was handled left us disappointed. A simple apology and comping the affected pasta would have gone a long way in showing that customer satisfaction truly matters.

I love the idea of a vegan place to eat at Legacy Food Hall, but the food and the service here missed the mark.

Excellent service despite having no reason to, since we ordered through a qr code located on the tables. I don't write about customer service unless it was genuinely something that was worth telling people. He gave us a good rundown of the situation of the restaurant and provided an in-depth explanation of the menu for my first time there. He gave us plenty of options to choose from and explained what consisted in each of the dishes. Which helped us ultimately make our choices and I enjoyed every single dish. The interior was well decorated with modern/futuristic reflective aesthetics. A great touch that made me love it even more was the dimming bags put over the spotlights adorned around the ceiling to help cut down on glare and make it a bit more comfortable to enjoy the atmosphere. The mixed vegetable salad was a very pleasant blend of sweet, savory, and Sichuan spice. I originally was going for the cucumber but I was interested in more variety and opted to try more of what they had to offer. It still hit as a refreshing appetizer to complement our other dishes. 9/10 The black pepper noodles were actually amazing with how it balanced out a lot of strong, potentially overwhelming flavors. The black pepper was perfectly seasoning the fiery stir fried bell pepper and noodles. The beef played a great supporting role to elevate the dish without making it all about itself. 8.5/10 The Number 1 rice noodles in soup was powerful without being indulgent. The flavors hit hot and hard but still savory and tastefully diverse. Jin recommended it as the noodles have a very pleasant chew and had a diverse plating with bok choy, pickled mustard, and an egg to top it off. 8.5/10 Overall I enjoyed this place completely and will 100% return when I come back to Texas.

Unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired. The lady at the register was not courteous and seemed to have an attitude, which made for an unpleasant experience. What disappointed me most was their military discount policy. A few weeks ago, I visited on a Saturday and my military service was honored. However, during this visit I was told that military discounts are only given on Mondays. As a veteran, that was frustrating and confusing. If you're going to promote being veteran-owned and supporting veterans, that support should be consistent and clearly communicated. Good food and a nice atmosphere, but the customer service and inconsistent treatment of veterans were disappointing

It was fresh and flaky, seasoned to perfection, and paired with their tartar sauce, was delicious. Highly recommend. The chicken fingers were good and not any major complaints just standard. Seasoned well and easily enjoyable. The Mac n Cheese was highly disappointing and can't recommend it. Might have been an off day but wasn't my style. The gumbo was good. Just your basic gumbo but you definitely need the hot sauce because it had no heat to it and I like mine a little more on the spicy side. Overall, I definitely recommend checking them out. They have some good offerings and glad to see a soul food style place in Plano.
