I arrived late Friday evening close to closing and was seated in the dining area. My server was Savanna, she was sweet and did not rush me. I ordered the frozen strawberry margarita which I hate to say I absolutely hated. The strawberry flavor was very faint and it tasted bitter. It made my throat itch so I'm not sure if it was the quality of tequila or ingredients. I also ordered the birria quesatacos which were jam packed with protein and flavor. The only downside was the consome was really watered down. It resembled broth and lacked flavor. I'm not sure if I experienced this because I came in late but I was really disappointed. Nice dining experience on a Saturday early evening. We were seated right away on the patio overlooking the harbor. Our waitperson was friendly and quick. We started with a La Tradicional Margarita that was perfectly balanced with lime juice, agave and tequila. Ordered the Guacamole along with salsa and tortilla chips. The Guacamole was freshly made and spicy, salsa was flavorful and mild (would have liked a spicer version) , the chips were warm and crispy. For dinner we ate the Chile Relleno which was different than most typical Mexican restaurants. It was a stuffed poblano with Mexican cheese, quinoa, and topped with crema, queso fresco, avocado, and a delicious roasted tomato chipotle sauce. We'll definitely be back. read more

After purusing the website and menu I anticipated an excellent dining experience at Rosa Mexicano. This is a cautionary tale that if one begins with high expectations it's much easier to be disappointed. Here are a few examples supporting my interpretation of our experience: - Requested outdoor seating but seated inside (it was not busy). - Water glasses only refilled if requested (mostly remained empty because our server didn't come by often). - Chips lacked salt; salsa lacked brightness. - Very limited vegan options (there are more vegetarian choices). - When our server confirmed the mushroom tacos could be made vegan (by omitting the cheese) they arrived topped with cheese. After pointing this out they were remade, however the corn tortillas were cold and rubbery, the cabbage/apple slaw had no dressing or salt, and the chile sauce was just a drizzle, resulting in an overall uninspired dish. - When food was delivered it was clear they were unsure who had ordered which dish; this resulted in lots of plate-passing and entree-switching. They also forgot to deliver several dishes until reminded. - Inattentive service. I hinted at this above in regards to water. We also had to proactively search for a staff member so we could pay our check. For these reasons I bestow 2 stars. Rosa Mexicano - you can do better; go forth and succeed. read more

Great spot for a bite in Seaport. Was able to snag a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. It was busy! Food was great, lots of gluten free options. I was so happy they had a gluten free option for the quesadillas- I rarely see that! Guac was spot on, margaritas were tasty. Made it a meal of apps - had the chicken flautas and shrimp ceviche. All were great. I went in with low expectations, but honesty this was one of the best Mexican meals I've had in a while. Server was fantastic. Just a few areas for improvement: noise level is pretty high. Hard to hear other people at your table. First host at the host stand avoided eye contact, yawned and walked away. We popped in here on our last day before heading to the train station to head home. I've been to Rosa plenty of times in NYC so I figured we'd go, have a margarita, and head home. We sat at the bar and quickly noticed they were training a new bartender. Okay that's fine but any actual mixologist knows how to make a margarita. Not this guy! Instead it took a manager (maybe?) to show him how to make one. It still came out good and strong so I got over it quickly. In-between drinks the manager suggested we take a shot. No, thank you. I felt like everything was good here, but not great. I got the guava margarita, enchilada sampler (duck, chicken, mushroom) and plantains. The drink was fine, but it was weird that a sweet margarita has salt on the rim and not sugar. The enchilada sampler was served with no explanation so I had no clue which one was which. I could tell which one was mushroom because that one didn't taste as good. The highlight of my meal was definitely the side of plantains, those were made very well. Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Guacamole was excellent. I had a Sunrise Margarita and it was not good. Then tried the coconut mojito and it was worse. For dinner I had chicken fajitas and they were barely edible. The peppers were basically raw and had no flavoring on them. The chicken was dry and did not have any Mexican spices on it, it was more of a dry bbq sauce. My boyfriend had a shrimp dish and he did enjoy that. You know how they say when you're in Boston be sure to check out the Mexican food? No? Yeah, I've never heard that either. But, there I was and I was in the mood for Mexican. This was just down the street from the hotel and the reviews looked good so I figured I'd check it out. The atmosphere is one of a very modern dining establishment. Not crazy-fancy but definitely upscale. The staff was incredibly nice. The menu had so many things I wanted to try, but I ended up with an enchilada assortment. It was amazing. Their Molé sauce is just incredible. It has this full taste in your mouth and a scent of cinnamon. The enchilada was great too. They also have a chili Verde sauce which I got on one of my enchiladas. That was also amazing. I'm not a big drinker so I don't know about their margarita specials, but they look cool. The food was just amazing though. Calling all Brunch Lovers! Do you love brunch and salsa dancing? Rosa Mexicano located on 155 Seaport Blvd, Boston, MA should be your new weekend brunch spot. For drinks we had a frozen pomegranate margarita and a cocojito. For an appetizer we had their ceviche flight. Shrimp, salmon and tuna ceviche all in one dish. My personal favorite was the shrimp ceviche-it had a nice spicy kick to it! For entrees we had their french toast and steak and eggs. The steak and eggs contained an 8oz grilled certified angus beef ny strip steak, two eggs any style, brunchile roasted potatoes, cambray onions, salsa molcajet, and flour tortillas. This is a huge plate of food and can definitely be split with multiple people! For dessert we had their churros, margarita lime tart and flan. My personal favorite was the margarita lime tart which contained Corralejo reposado tequila, triple sec, lime zest, baked in an árbol graham cracker crust topped with whipped cream. Rosa Mexicano is a decent place to grab food if you have a large group in the Seaport area. I've visited this place twice with a team of co-workers (~8 people) around lunch time during the weekday and were able to find a table pretty quickly. In both my visits, we ordered the table side guacamole, which lacked the usual amount of salt and lime that I am used too in both instances, though a few people at the table enjoyed it. On my first visit, I had ordered the pork tacos, which by itself tasted okay. Adding the spicy salsa helped boost the flavor. The spicy salsa definitely has a kick and not advised for the unseasoned spice connoisseurs! On my second and most recent visit, I had ordered the Baja Fish tacos, which also were fairly bland without the spicy salsa. Many of my co-workers ordered items other than tacos, e.g. enchiladas and ceviche, that they enjoyed so maybe its just the tacos are a bit underwhelming. It is hard competition with the explosion of new restaurants in Seaport area. While the food might be a hit or miss, Rosa Mexicano has the space to host large groups and pretty good service, which might be the option you are looking for in a lunchtime crunch. read more

I decide to put in our orders quickly so there's no time for the waiter to keep coming back. I placed an order for a Paloma, Firecracker Shrimp and Pork Carnitas de Cazuela. Bam! The Paloma was pretty good, I would have liked it a little stronger. The Firecracker Shrimp was on point. Very tasty and a nice starter. The Pork Carnitas de Cazuela, we had a little wait. Our waiter was busy and didn't check on us for at least 10 minutes. I would have ordered another drink but I was put on the pay no mind list. Once the Pork Carnitas de Cazuela did come to the table, now it's on! Those sauces added different nuances of flavor. This dish was out of bounds! Highly recommended. Rosa, we finally meet. Walked in during Red Bull diving weekend mid afternoon. They stated they were not serving lunch menu at this time but probably cause the lunch options were the cheapest. My bf and I ordered blood orange marg, steak quesadilla, duck tacos, and brisket enchiladas. Marg: good, lots of alcohol For apps, we started with quesadillas and opted to add steak because without it, it was just cheese. The cheese option was $10 and I had thought it was $12 for steak option but to find out in the end when we got the receipt is that it's $12 EXTRA. Absolutely absurd. That makes an app quesadilla for $22! It was good I would say, not a lot of flavor besides the flavors of the ingredients alone so it was missing something but it was a good start. Duck quesadilla (3) was not too bad. Hefty portion and the corn tortillas were really good. I personally love pineapple in my tacos so that was my favorite part. Again, still lacked flavor slightly. Brisket quesadilla... oof. I have no idea what kind of sauce it was but it was straight tomato paste. So overwhelming that was all I tasted trying to eat the enchiladas. Overall... average but EXTREMELY expensive. Each dish was at least $20 or more for something that shouldn't be and for subpar food. The bill ended up being over $80, which I would've given it a higher rating for its value for what was given if it was $50-$60 including my drink. read more

It's a no for me. I have been here a couple times and have had mixed reviews but my most recent experience was the final nail in the coffin for me. Let's start with the fact that you have to pay for chips and salsa... at a Mexican restaurant... Feels cheap and doesn't get you off to a great start. Next, the service was very slow and bad. We got sass from the waiter when communicating an allergy and it took 45 minutes to get our drinks (they weren't busy). And finally, the food was meh. I got a chicken quesadilla and it was a bit soggy and lacked flavor. My friend got the tuna tacos and they were way too spicy. We have high spice tolerances and could barely eat them. My friend and I were in Boston for a night as we went to a bruins game a few weeks ago and had absolutely no idea where or what we wanted to eat for dinner. It was tough finding a place we could agree on that wasn't fully booked as it was a Saturday and a couple sports games were in Boston that day. We finally found Rosa Mexicano on a meal reservation application, and I'm so glad we did. It was a 4 minute drive from the hotel we were staying at by the water and it could've been an easy walk in better weather, but since it was the coldest day of the year, we took an Uber there. It seemed to be in a great location as the street it's on has lots of stores, restaurants, hotels, and it's pretty close to south station. We arrived at the reservation time and it was pretty busy, but there were lots of open tables. I'm glad we made a reservation anyways as you never know what to expect. We sat down at a high top by the bar, which was nice because we were able to watch the football game that was on. The waitress came over pretty quickly and took our drink orders. We each got a Mango-Ginger Refresco. We absolutely loved them! For starters, we ordered guacamole and salsa with chips. We also ordered esquites to share. The guacamole was freshly made and really tasty. I added some extra cilantro in the guacamole. It could've used a little kick as it didn't have any jalapeños in it, but we still really liked it. The chips were very fresh and the salsa was also good. As for the esquites, I was a little bummed at first because it came out lukewarm. We waited for the waitress to come back, so we could tell her. There was a little bit of a language barrier which made it slightly difficult to communicate what I was trying to say at times, but we figured it out and it didn't bother me. She heated the esquites up for us and it was SO much better. It tasted like a whole different dish once it was warmed up. I loved it! For our entrees, I got the carne asada quesadilla and she got the fish tacos. The quesadilla was so amazing as the quality of the steak was good and it was so tasty. Her tacos were also very good, but she did think the sauce on it was a little too spicy. She has a fairly high spice tolerance, so it had to have been too spicy. She still really enjoyed her tacos besides the extreme kick. While we were eating our entrees, my friend ordered another drink. She specified that only she wanted another drink, but the waitress came back with a second one for me too. I was initially a little confused and annoyed because I didn't ask for a second one as I had half of my first drink left, but I felt badly telling her I didn't order another and decided to just keep it. For dessert, we ordered the churros. She came out with the churros in a bag and shook them in the bag in front of us. She put them on the plate which had chocolate sauce and a raspberry sauce in little dip containers. The churros were very hot and it was clear that they were just made. We really enjoyed the churros. We thought they could've been cooked a little longer as the middle seemed slightly undercooked, but they were still great. The waitress came over when we were eating dessert with our check. We normally pay separately, but it was no big deal. I guess they were closed at that point, so I think she was ready to go and waiting for us to pay first. There were a lot of people still eating at the restaurant, so I figured it was fine if we didn't leave immediately after paying. We left a little while later, feeling super full and very happy with the experience we had overall! On a Saturday evening we were expecting a long wait. The place was busy but we got seated within 10 minutes. Drinks menu seemed extensive but a bit on the pricy side. We decided on mock-tails and were not disappointed. Mango lemon ginger with chia seeds was refreshing and spot on. House salsa was exceptionally tasty. Main entrees were flavorful and distinct in taste. There was an odd thing that marred the experience though. A person walking around with a camera came to the table and took pictures of us. The pitch was that they were complimentary. Ten minutes later they brought a picture post card (free)and three pictures in frames and were pretty insistent that we purchase that package of three for $55. Not cool. Ambiance of a beautiful evening and great food was dampened by this unnecessary plot twist. Felt compelled to take out one star. read more

I've come here before and many of were dishes were bomb, including the queso fundido, but this time it was less appetizing unfortunately. The lower star review is for misleading advertising. On Insta they posted a $7 happy hour cocktail with hashtags for NY and Boston-- no mention that it was not available at the Boston location. (Pagu gets around the Puritanical Massachusetts Happy Hour restriction by offering a special $5 drink that's available during HH only, so I assumed that's what Rosa was doing). We came here specifically for this drink and deal only to find out that HH at this location includes food only. We ordered the cocktail anyway but it's full price (normal expensive Boston drink prices), so I'm super disappointed rn. Their queso fundido is advertised on their happy hour menu, but it's the same price as on the regular menu, so also not a deal there. Also, the queso was good but the accompanying chorizo was not. They brought it out without tortillas (the tortilla container was empty. They also brought me an extra marg I didn't order, but I wanted to order a drink at that time anyway so it was fine.
