I noticed this place not from Yelp, but from causally walking in this beautiful area. I like Indian food, but it is just limited to a few items I know about. My favorite is biryani - lamb or goat. I'm not sure about the difference, but I know they both taste great. So we ordered a lamb biryani, as well as some garlic naan and a lentil soup. The lamb biryani was really delicious. There was a generous amount of lamb, which was very savory. Of course, I liked the basmati rice, fried with grilled onions and topped with some nuts and cilantro. The portion was good enough for a two people. We liked the garlic nam a lot. It was stuffed with small pieces of garlic inside. So it was very garlicky. The soup was unexpectedly tasty. I thought it would be quite plain since I just wanted to have something veggie in our meal. I'm always skeptical about food in these restaurants not being authentic. But when I see a couple of real Indian families enjoying the food, I know I found a good place. And the food was the best supporting evidence. read more

They are thriving coz of their location choice. Food is not even close to call it INDIAN. Using some spices, tomato purée & onion doesn't make it Indian. We went there to get ripped off. Spent $124 for extremely bland, tasteless, & unsettling food. Price was my first red flag. Every item in the menu was no less than $14. Ordered couple of chicken tikka plates, a plate of butter chicken, a plate of chicken biryani & a plate of goat biryani. A single piece of tikka was sliced into 2 and each stick had 3 pieces. And came with some yellow God knows flavor rice. That was my second red flag & was sure the food Would be disappointing. Tikka was the only item with some flavor. The yellow rice that came as side had nothing but some cumin seeds and turmeric. This yellow rice was of low & poor quality, very bad. They used some cheaper quality rice, extremely dry, all broken & skinny. Butter chicken had nothing but couple of purées with some spices & mildly fried chicken cooked in it to make it a curry. Coming to biryanis, the most disgusting I ever tasted!!! Not even close to call it biryani. Both had similar flavorless rice topped with sliced almonds, peanuts & soggy fried onion & mixed with some fried chicken & lamb. Didn't had a particular style. Not dum, not Hyderabadi, not lucknowi biryani. Rice used in either of the biryanis was not basmati rice. They should call it RO-GI biryani( ROGI translates to sick patient in Indian languages) This is the only stupid restaurant that served rice with a side of rice. Talk about mirchi ka salan, it was think as curry and was tasting like tomato puree, looks like gravy from butter chicken. MORONS!! And raita was equally awful!!! BUFFOONERY and total disgrace to call it Indian restaurant!!! Just like Texans made their own version of Mexican food and named it as Tex-mex. You will miss this place if you're not looking. It was next to one of the parking garage. We started off with Chicken 65 level 2 spice. It was fantastic. I opted to get a platter with butter chicken, daal, onion kulcha and kheer. The butter chicken was so good. It was flavored so well. The daal was fantastic as well. The kheer is my favorite dessert and this location did not disappoint. The drinks here are so pricey especially if you order a double. I'll opt out on drinks next time. We did take-out this evening and the food was incredibly underwhelming. The garlic naan was essentially rubber and overloaded with garlic. The Malai Kofta was too salty. Chana Masala was the strangest tasting Chana Masala I've ever had (and I'm Indian). It had an odd mixture of spices that you don't normally associate with Chana Masala. The Chana was also overcooked. The Paneer Tikka was overpriced. You get six pieces of paneer, a choice of curry gravy, and naan. Kind of a strange combo as Paneer Tikka is usually served as a dry item by itself along with grilled veggies. The paneer was decent and the masala gravy was good. Maybe the chef is good with meat items, but as far as vegetarian items go, our experience was dismal. read more

Always wanted to try this restaurant when in the area. Finally went here for dinner last night to celebrate my little one's birthday. The staff is top notch, service was excellent, attentive! The restaurant ambience is decent, parking is free in the garage right next to the restaurant. So this is style is pretty good - you order at the register when you're ready and seat by yourselves. Once the food is ready they bring it to your table. We ordered tandoori combo - paneer and chicken came with a sauce on the side. Also came with rice (huge portion). Honestly paneer was just bland and was loaded with color. On the other hand chicken kabab was made with minced chicken and not my preference but tasted good. This restaurant is in a really nice area around the STAR but with that the downside is that it can be difficult to find a parking spot. They don't offer a lunch buffet but they have a lot of other options. The way it works for lunch at least is that you order and pay up front and they come with your food when it's ready to your table. I ended up getting the Thali chicken plate to be able to try different options. The also had a lamb plate and a vegetarian plate. They give a very generous serving of naan bread and it was good. The samosa was also very good and it comes with two different sauces. The curry was good but I thought most of the food was somewhat bland compared to other indian restaurants that I've been to. It may be that it's more catered to people that aren't used to common spicy indian dishes. It's a nice restaurant, nice decor and comfortable. I would prefer the food to be more spicy but if you aren't used to indian food, this is a good place to try it out. read more

I took my parents and they had never eaten Indian cuisine and they devoured every bit of the Butter chicken, naan, rice, and even stole some of my vegetable biryani and samosas... Visited for a late lunch recently, the food was okay. We ordered the butter chicken (diff name on menu), a couple sides of rice, regular naan, garlic naan, paratha, and veggie samosas. Out of the three naan options we ordered we enjoyed the plain regular naan the most. The garlic was good but a little overpowering, they have actual pieces of garlic inside the bread. The veggie samosas were good! The Texas sized butter chicken was good but not worth $15-$16. We spent a total of $35 or so for two people and I'd say it wasn't worth it for the amount of food. The best value for Indian food along with flavor would be Al Markaz. I have read some reviews about poor customer service here and I can see why, they weren't terrible with us but weren't the nicest either. read more

This place could be beyond fantastic. The food is utterly delicious. The cocktail list is good and the frozen Margaritas are yummy and affordable at $6. We are outdoor people and unfortunately, despite the great outdoor area, it's not very welcoming. The chairs and table are always dirty, and while they have an outdoor window for ordering drinks, it's rarely open. I say open the window, make the outdoor area clean and welcoming--candles on tables. It's just not very inviting. Also, communication is a bit challenging. I wish I didn't have to post this bad review, but I'm so upset and disappointed right now, that I have to. I insisted on picking up Roti Grill when my friends said they were craving Indian food tonight. So, I called our order in, and made it very clear that I wanted every dish that I was ordering, MEDIUM HEAT. SIDE NOTE: My coworkers and I have been eating at Roti Grill every week now (Uptown location) for the last 12 years, so to tell you that I'm super familiar with every one of their dishes is 100% the honest to God truth. Tonight, I ordered a Texas size Paneer Masala, a regular size, Chana Balti and a regular size, Chicken Vindaloo. But even after specifically asking for every dish to be prepared, MEDIUM HEAT, they were all prepared so spicy that my friends looked like they were in pain only one bite in. I thought, surely they were exaggerating, so I tried some of the masala sauce with a spoon - and yes, IT WAS UNUSUALLY PAINFULLY SPICY!!! In addition to that, the Chana Balti tasted like someone added a cup of vinegar to ours. The Chicken Vindaloo, (which was also prepared painfully spicy), has been one of my "go-to" favorites for a very long time. But this version? Well, it was more like hard potato vindaloo. I actually managed to find 3 small pieces of chicken among all the pieces of undercooked potato. Last but not least, I ordered butter naan to accompany every dish and even ordered extra for us on the side. Surely, the warm, buttery naan would save the night, right? WRONG! I OPENED THE FOIL TO FIND ALL ROTI! Not a single piece of the butter Naan that I had ordered, whatsoever! Seriously? Was I being punked? Or was this a case of, "the white girl won't know the difference?" If so, boy did they misjudge me. FYI I'm an honorary brown girl! In summation, everything was inedible - just a complete and utter disaster that all ended up outside in the trash bin. A big waste of my time (picking it up) and my money. And, no I didn't bother calling them, because ... WHY? I'm not looking for a free meal. Nor did I want to waste ANY MORE OF MY TIME WITH MY FRIENDS on the telephone with them. I'll report it to the Manager at their Uptown location next week. And he will care. Listen, if you've heard great things about Roti Grill, but were disappointed with the Frisco location ... the great things you heard about it is because of their Uptown location. The food there is always fresh, consistent and it comes out exactly the way you order it, EVERY SINGLE TIME. GO TRY ROTI GRILL THERE. I PROMISE, YOU WONT BE SORRY. After tonight, I can't believe they're even the same restaurant. I was so embarrassed in front of my friends, because I hyped up the food so much and insisted that we order from them. This place serves really fresh and great Indian food. We started off with chicken 65 as an appetizer, and it was really flavorful and fresh. I'm a fan of chicken tikka masala, so I ended up ordering the platter portion to try a little bit of it all. The chicken was so soft and had the right amount of spices. The lentil curry was fantastic, and the samosa was great. If you are a fan of rice pudding, I suggest trying that as your dessert. Overall, I was pleased, but this place is a little on the pricey side. If you order alcohol, be prepared to spend a nice pretty penny on it. I love love this place for my Indian food craving. My favorite dish is the biriyani with lamb and vindaloo sauce! The sauce has such aromatics in it and the flavor is so bold and delicious. The braised lamb is so amazing it literally melts in your mouth. Alongside the rice I usually order a side of garlic naan and it's one of the best naan I've ever had. Their chicken samosa is ok, it's sorta on the dry side. But I still order it bc the sauce it comes with is so good. read more

Taste: * The chicken masala tasted closer to a watery tomato basil soup rather than a rich, flavorful masala curry full of Indian spices. * The naan was flat and greasy. * The gulab jamun was overly sweet and mushy. Portion: The portion sizes are very small for the price. I specifically ordered the larger portion of curry for $24 but it came in a regular sized to go container.
