I was not ready for the heat of Texas or this restaurant. After walking here from our hotel I was feeling more sick than hungry but the smell and menu drove me. I ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan. My boyfriend knows I can't handle spice, and ask for "NO SPICE", the reply back was ok Medium? I laughed shyly and said no again, no spice. He said medium again and I gave up, now feeling faint. The food came quickly and within the first bite I knew I had made a big mistake. My mouth was on fire, no amount of rice or water was helping and I was starving. Deepdi I think was his name, caught my face, now almost in tears. He asked if I was ok, I explained what happened. He talked me through the menu and explained they can't tone down the spice for the dish and offered to bring me something else. We ordered from Roti Grill and had our food delivered. The naan bread and spinach naan were both amazing. We also ordered vegetable samosas, Aloo Gobi, medium spicy; Saag Chana, medium spicy; vegetable biryani also medium spicy and lastly basmati rice. Oh my goodness! Everything we ordered was so delicious! The spice was perfect, not too spicy but just right. We ordered a lot of food and will have enough for a couple more days. The food was very satisfying and yummy! The rice was perfectly cooked. And we are fortunate because we are so close the food was still hot. Not an expert on Indian food. I enjoy it, but rarely eat. Decent amount of options. Fast casual setting. Got the lamb biryani. ($13.50). Gave me the option of 2 sauces on the side. Think I opted for the masala. Never had biryani before, but it's kind of like a fried rice essentially. Did not need the sauce. The rice was flavorful enough by itself. I got the lowest level of spice, but could've gone one level higher up. However, for the price, wish some naan came with it.... It was a big portion, so worth it for the money. The food was so delicious! I loved the Saag with chicken, very flavorful. The lentils were too spicy for me, but I think that's to be expected with Indian lentils. The only issue I had was their ordering/paying setup.... you first have to order at the front and then you pay. Then you pick where you want to be seated to dine. My issue here, was when i was paying and had to swipe my credit card... the screen asked how much would I like to tip. I was a bit dumbfounded because I wasn't given any service yet, but I was asked to tip before the service was rendered. I think the tipping should occur after the dining experience. Secondly, there's really no service that calls for a tip. You order, you pay, you sit.... and they bring out the food but they never come out to ask you for refills, for silverware.... you just have to get up and go get that yourself at their little station. I'm not an Indian food expert by any means but this food is LEGIT! I ordered the Texas size chicken tikka masala which means it comes with both rice and naan. I went with the "I'm married so we can both have bad breath" garlic naan option and holy moly was it delicious! This was not just some garlic powder- there were actual pieces of fresh garlic baked into this naan. The chicken was so tender I could cut it with my fork. And yes, it WAS a Texas-sized portion. But it was all so fresh and bursting with flavor, I ate almost all of it. Aside from really delicious food, the service was amazing. Both owners (I assume husband and wife) came by to check on how everything was. The husband even brought us over some fixings from their little sides station to try. He explained how they focus on the freshest ingredients and not taking shortcuts. The proof is in the pudding because this was seriously some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Food is great and flavorful. It's pretty authentic for my British tastes and you never have to wait too long. Couple that in with a nice cold Indian beer makes this a great spot for not a great cost. For me they lose one star because there is no table service whatsoever. I went in with 3 wait staff the (I assume owner) and 3 other tables sat. Our food was delivered but a wait staff member and I was asked if I needed anything else. I asked for another beer and was told to go to the main door and pay there and get it there. Everything I've tried, I've liked! My go-to meal is the Texas Two Step with Chicken Masala. I love their fresh naan! I've been here several times now and is always a great experience! Parking- May be tricky if it's your first time but there are parking garages and all parking is free. Cleanliness- Very clean restaurant and bathroom. Staff friendliness- Staff was great and friendly! Feel free to ask them questions about the food. Taste of food- Love it! Very fresh! You can get your meal mild or very spicy! It's a 50 cent upgrade over regular naan when ordering with a meal and 100% worth it. We never place an order without it. samosa chaat - not on the online menu but so good. Tip: it's the same price as an order of samosa. if you want to order online, pay for a samosa and write a note. lamb biryani - I don't even like lamb that much but it's delicious here. We used to drive to the original Roti Grill in Dallas and are so excited to have another Roti Grill open up in north Dallas area. The restaurant is an awesome location with tons of other options around to enjoy! The customer service is refreshing and truly resembles Indian hospitality. Staff welcomes you, ensures your order is correctly entered and communicated to the kitchen staff (which never happens in South Indian owned restaurants in the Plano area), staff checks on your order after it's served, and will ensure the food is cooked to your needs. Mild does mean mild for kids and not medium spicy as other Indian restaurants in the neighborhood. This restaurant will definitely impact all other local Indian restaurants in the Frisco and Plano area by setting the bar high on service and food quality. This was the first time I ate at Roti Grill in Plano. I had eaten at the Roti Grill near downtown Dallas. The lamb vindaloo here exceeded my expectations. It was tasty and was served in a good quantity for a Saturday afternoon. The presentation was great. The curry sauce took half the plate and the rice took the other half. I have been a fan of Roti Grill for a long time now. I was genuinely sad when they closed the Plano location at Park and Midway, but I drove down to the Dallas location when the craving hit. Unfortunately, with the increasingly awful traffic nowadays, I have been going less and less. So, when I found out that Roti Grill now has a location in good ol Frisco, I of course had to do a happy dance. Parking was probably the worst thing ever on a Friday night at The Star, but patience and stalking paid off and I got a good spot in the blue parking garage (I later found out that the silver parking garage would have been a better choice). Regardless, I have already told my future self that no Roti Grill cravings are allowed on Fridays. Surprisingly, no other customers were there when I walked in. They just opened last week though. Several families came in over the duration of my meal, so hopefully word gets out that they are open and business will pick up. It doesn't help that none of the immediate stores next to them are open yet. I barely noticed them even though I was actively looking for them - I blame The Star for forcing everyone to use the same dull gray color for their sign. Food: I ordered the Texas size Chicken Tikka Masala (perfect for two). I love their masala's balance of tomato and cream. I prefer a strong tomato presence but still a nice creamy texture, and that's what they serve. The chicken is always spot on - so tender and flavorful! I recommend the regular naan over the garlic naan. I also ordered the mango lassi; they have a really tasty version. So, I personally think you should give Roti Grill a try and bring your friends and family. The space is open, modern, and you can put tables together to accommodate a large group if necessary. Oh! I almost forgot, they have a handwash station outside of the actual bathrooms so you can wash your hands without touching any door handles... I loved that! I've been looking forward to trying this place for a long time after coworkers had recommended it. My partner got the chicken samosas and I got the chilli paneer and paratha. The samosas were salty AF and the center was cold- like it had just come out of the freezer. My paratha tasted like old and dried naan-- nothing like the warm, flaky and layered delicacy it should be. The chilli paneer was so bad that we returned it for a refund. I was told it would be on the dryer side but it came out drenched in sauce that looked like spicy ketchup. It had none of the Indian spices I would have expected. Best chana balti in Frisco, hands down. This dish and place have become an addiction. I'm not a big rice fan, but the rice here is special. Not enough of a foodie to know what's in it, except that the combination of yellow rice and chana balti is pure mouth magic. That probably goes for other dishes, too. It's highly recommended by many friends. A note about spice levels- their lowest heat is medium. If you are sensitive to heat, this might not be the best place for you. My husband likes his Indian food mild and while he enjoys the lamb he orders alongside my vegetarian dish, it's a bit of an ordeal to eat for him, and not enjoyed nearly as much as by me :).
