As a Chef I tend to be very hard and critical of the places I eat in, so much so that it makes it hard for me to enjoy meals out. I am visiting San Francisco with my family and stumbled upon this little jewel close to my hotel. The place is small and inviting and their menu had a bit of everything so it pleased all 6 members of my party. The American Sandwich was my son's favorite and it was excellent. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was an incredible surprise, the eggs were perfectly poached, the Hollandaise sauce was smooth and perfect and the homestyle potatoes were seasoned to perfection. We are staying 3 more days so that will give me a chance to eat something different everyday. read more

We ate brunch here twice and enjoyed every last morsel. I especially liked the Leo Omelet. it has smoked salmon, capers, sautéed onions and cream cheese. It comes with potatoes and bread of your choice. The eggs Benedict was also delicious. They make a very tasty hollandaise sauce. The staff is very friendly and special orders are not a problem. An egg white only non dairy version of the Leo was just as tasty as the regular. They have great coffee too and will keep your regular cup o' joe full. Its a little cramped inside, and since this is a popular place there always seems to be a line and a little wait. But is it worth that wait, so hang in there. Okay let me start off saying this place is sooo disappointing. I came here before and I truly loved it but this is my 2nd time and I will never go back. I literally waited and hour to get my food. While waiting for my food no one came by and apologized for the wait or asked me if I wanted a a different drink so my drink was watered down. An hour later my food came and I asked for Steak and Eggs and let me tell you the steak was disgusting. Clearly the cooks do not know how to make a good steak. I was very disappointing. So finally, we had asked for other drinks because since we waited so long like I mention our drinks were watered down, you would think common sense they wouldn't charge you especially because no one communicated with you. Well we got the bill and they charged us the extra drinks, I had asked for to speak to a manager and one of the waitress had said they didn't have a manager on duty, which they should always.. well anyways, some lady named "Consuelo" came to the table and already with attitude and she says she's the manager but she is not professional to be a manager. We had explained our drink situation and she said "well you guys added ice to your drinks" WORST ANSWER IF YOU ASK ME. Okay, so then I tried to make her understand the situation and she at the end told my partner that they need to relax because it's not that serious. Clearly she was not a manager and that is not okay. She was really rude and unprofessional. We come to eat and enjoy ourselves but definitely will never come back. Came here for breakfast on a Friday morning with two people. Small, cozy, and tight seating! I had to whisper most of the time so that the people next to us, almost sharing the table with us, wouldn't hear our conversations LOL I ordered two eggs over easy and my god, the egg white were extremely runny, like a very undercooked sunny side up. I truly wasn't in the mood to send it back so I just cut around it and ate the slightly cooked parts with the tasteless dry toast. Thank god the latte was decent so I was able wash away the misery out of my poor palate. My two companions weren't crazy about their breakfast either. One of them had a vegetarian omelette and it was the saddest omelette you've ever seen. Watery, bland looking, and just a sad sad omelette. She ended up just eating the toast just like me to fill herself. The third person with us was a very flexible person when it came to food, and even he didn't like his plate. He said it was super bland and boring and the potatoes were very tasteless and thick. You have to try so hard to make potatoes not be tasty! Service was okay, but not very attentive because they were extremely busy so I understand. Deceptive menu says "choice of cheese" on top is the entire burger section, as if it's included (see pic) then they charge you $1.50 for a slice of cheese for each burger. We were able to get seats at the bar so we didn't wait long. The wait staff was very much overwhelmed but doing all they could to keep up with the demand. Roxanne Cafe stands out for what you get for the price. My hotel offered a $25 buffet but I wasn't in the mood for a big buffet so I took a short walk. I was able to order scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast for $12. That's just unheard of in San Francisco in my experience. I feel like I've uncovered a hidden gem on Powell street. The breakfast was good, exactly what I needed on a Tuesday morning before my scheduled meetings. Breakfast is a simple meal and when I can find a good, simple breakfast that doesn't bust my wallet I am a happy person. I haven't eaten here for lunch or dinner so I cannot comment on those meals but if you want a good, reasonably priced breakfast you should definitely try Roxanne Cafe. read more

It's not a FANCY restaurant, so don't feel pressured to dress really nice, it's a very casual laid back atmosphere, but it is a white table cloth restaurant, which to me mean they'll charge booku bucks for an ordinary chicken pasta. They charge you to split the entree which isn't customary in most restaurants, and they do not tell you this. BUT I don't necessarily see an issue with this, just wish they'd disclose it. Reason for my 3 Star: The staff didn't approach us to seat us for at least 3 minutes. (They were in the back) Once seated our waitress didn't come over for a good 5 minutes, and after our entree was served we didn't see her again until I got up to pay our tab. read more

We came on what is probably their most chaotic day of the year - Christmas - but overall had a pleasant experience. Pros: - some of the best fettuccine alfredo I've ever had. It was very buttery in flavor and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente! I highly recommend it. It is also a great portion size compared to the Lobster Ravioli, which was pretty small. - the bread pudding dessert is a must-try! It's very fresh and creamy, and comes with a wonderful vanilla gelato. It's also pretty large so it's a great dessert to share Cons: - we had an 8:00 reservation but there was a line out the door of other people trying to get seats. We ended up waiting for 45 minutes, unable to grab the attention of any waitresses, so it was clear that they were giving away the reserved tables to whomever was ahead of us in line... I wish they would have asked who had reservations and seated us first! - our waters didn't get refilled at all Maybe if you don't come in on a busy holiday the service would be better, but overall the food was good so if I find myself in SF again, I would come back. read more

What can I say? Roxanne Cafe in San Francisco continues to be our mainstay place to go for breakfast. The Roxanne Grande is still my favourite breakfast to order with delicious pork link sausages that are not gristly but smooth and delicious! The bacon is very good and the eggs are always done exactly as I request. Topped off with a couple of pancakes that I use buttered and eat with my hands to sop up the egg yolk from the over easy eggs I order and you've delightful feast for first thing in the morning. There's almost always a line to get in so be patient. Please note, the tables are small, the place itself is definitely cozy but the staff really does their best to ensure everyone is served as quickly as possible. We love the convenience to downtown Union Square San Francisco, close to the cable cars, great shopping and beautiful sites of our wonderful city we live in. THANK YOU ROXANNE CAFE!
