My wife and I have visited Rubicon twice. We go between 5 and 7 for the oyster special, which is 13 oysters for $12. They have been great on both occasions. I tried the food grasp entree, not to my liking, but thats the first time I tried it and I think it was a personal taste thing. Another time I ordered the croque monsieur. It was positively delicious. I also tried the turtle soup and it was awesome. Kind of like a good hearty Louisiana gumbo. The martini I selected was tasty and not short of alcohol. Let me just start off by saying, I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. I dined at Rubicon about a month after it first opened with a few of my friends, so it was still fairly new. I will start off with the good; the restaurant is beautiful and the prices for food and wine are very reasonable. So here is the bad. I want to precede this with, I am not a food snob or a brat. I ordered the steak frites, however instead of the fries I wanted the roasted vegetable. The waitress told me that would be fine. A half hour goes by..in the mean time, my friends have ordered the French onion soup. Which they said tasted fine, but came in an itty bitty cup. It honestly looked like what a cup of espresso would come in. Anyway, after the half hour passes, the waitress comes to our table and informs me that the chef will not replace the fries with the roasted vegetables. If I would have known this earlier, I would have switched what I ordered. If they would have told me up front and not a half hour after I order my food that their policy is to not substitute food, I would have understood. I thought it was poorly done and just plain rude. To top it off, the waitress brings out the steak without the fries. Just a steak...by itself... on a plate. Steak on a plate. I never said that I did not want fries, I just wanted them substituted. Even if I did not want to eat them, I could give them others at my table. I'm technically paying for them, right? My overall thoughts of Rubicon is that the food is fine, the drinks are good, but they are not customer oriented. If you don't mind being treated like you are scum of the earth for wanting a healthier side alternative, go and enjoy yourself. The décor and ambiance itself is worth experiencing. read more

Came for cocktails late-ish on a Wednesday night. We called ahead just to be sure we wouldn't be going in minutes till close. They said we had about an hour and a half for drinks, but that the kitchen was closing soon. We didn't intend on ordering food, but once we had a drink, the bartender (Val) made it available to order food! SUPER great staff. We were one of 2 couples there and some of the workers were hanging out. Great group to talk with. Val, the bartender will make you feel super welcome as if you were at her own home! All of Qui's restaurants are amazing but rubicon is my favorite. It is not cheap, but it is also definitely not overpriced. It is worth every penny. This is some of the best food you can get anywhere in a really cool atmosphere. The cocktails are the best in the city. The BEST French Restaurant I have ever ate at! Had Coquille Saint-Jacques (sauteed Bay Scallops, Shallots, Kennett Square Mushrooms, Gruyere, and Light Cream), Saumon (Roasted Scottish Salmon, Light Cream Pink Peppercorn, Winter Citrus, Saute of Peruvian Purple Potato and Edamame). The portions are small, but you still feel satisfied, because the food is so delicious. The ambience and beauty of the restaurant's interior is amazing. Rubicon reminds me of Europe. I'm not a fan of French cuisine but the flashing lights lured us in and I'm glad we gave Rubicon a shot. We ordered Moules, Le Coq Au Vin, and a sausage/sauerkraut dish that was absolutely amazing! Our server told us that our meat was prepared for seven hours and we could taste the effort. The service was great, everyone was down to earth and really nice. The atmosphere is really cool and I love the gallery space on the second floor although the photography was cliche. Stopped in for happy hour and thought it was overpriced for harrisburg... especially for being off the main track, which might explain why it was empty. $9 for a draft beer that I typically buy by the six pack in the Grocery store seemed a bit much... $18 for a cocktail??? That's Soho prices... we left after one drink and headed down to second Street to some of the places that were packed with people and a little more reasonable. Rubicon has the atmosphere you want with amazing food to go with it. The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality, I feel as though I am getting a great deal every time I come here. Every meal has been amazing, the oysters available during happy hour are excellent, and I would also recommend trying the Baked Alaska. We had been to Rubicon once before and were looking forward to our visit with a couple that had come in from out of town. The atmosphere is lovely. Unfortunately that is where it stopped. The service was incredibly slow. One person ordered the cassoulet. The duck leg was so dry it needed to be sent back for a replacement. My husband ordered tha Faux Pho. It had pieces a fatty meat in it and the flavor and the broth was not very good. Overall, we were very disappointed. Will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Very disappointed... Absolutely love what was done to the building from ground floor to roof. (This was my ol hangout bar for 40 years) Now the big let down, OVER THE TOP... with presentation and gourmet content. I fully understand portion control and quality, BUT this was way overdone. True to French cuisine, but please... had to stop at Mickie D's after just to fill the void. Here's the BIG rub, pricing... Outrageous, 10 bucks for a 3oz class a wine, and everything in your meal has to be ordered separately at an absorbent price. I hate to say this, but Rubicon is slipping. Having had 5 or 6 really excellent meals here, tonight was a disappointment. Even though the place was not busy, the service was slow. Our entrees were not very warm (Beef bourguignon) and the wine we ordered took way too long to be served. Resting on your laurels will not keep your place in the top tier of Harrisburg restaurants. read more

Visited during Restaurant week in September 2015. Awesome place to visit, the decor was awesome and very modern. Met friends at the bar prior to being seated and the Bartender was awesome and offered up different drink choices. We sat upstairs to eat and was impressed. Food was nicely prepared and very good. Only issue I had was our Waitress had problems remembering our order. I realize it's impressive to not write down your customers orders, but please write it down. I would rather have my order correct then screwed up. Unfortunately, I won't go again. Just not a big fan of French Cuisine, and the dishes. If it wasn't for Restaurant Week in Harrisburg I do not think I would have tried it. But I took a chance just not crazy about it. read more

We went to this restaurant for dinner. Great atmosphere, great service and food was delicious. I would recommend the mussels for a starter. And end your meal with the crème Brulé. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and fancy. The service is great as well. Everything is great except the price and food. Obviously people just don't go to a restaurant for chilling only; the main reason is good food and drink. For the price of it, the food and drink is not special at all. It feels like very simple American food with some extra cheese or caramelized onion. Regular beer cost over $10. The cocktails are nothing like mixed drink but straight alcohol with bitter taste. If you are ready to spend over $150 for a couple dinners with terrible food and drink, and fancy decoration, this is the place for you. read more

It's beautiful inside, and the bartender made me a lovely virgin fruity thing with no fuss. Overall service was fine - and it better be because they charge you 20% tip automatically. I was there with 3 others for restaurant week. I got the beet goat cheese salad, chicken with mushrooms entrée, and a vanilla pot de crème for dessert. The salad was under seasoned, but the candied walnuts were delightful. The chicken was ok, sauce was fabulous - but the mushrooms were inedible. Spongy, flavorless...just plain weird, and I love mushrooms. I wasn't the only one at the table who wouldn't eat them. The chicken itself was just a breast dipped in flour and pan fried, they didn't even pound it to even it out - which is why half of it was undercooked. The pot de crème was very bland. Maybe I expected too much since everyone raves about how awesome this place was, but I was not impressed. I'll go back one more time to try the croque monsieur, but if that didn't look so tempting I wouldn't bother again with this place. IMO Suba is better - never had a mediocre meal there. read more

French food is my favorite cuisine. I waited forever for Rubicon to open, so excited to eat there. I had my husband take me there shortly after it opened and I have never been more disappointed in a restaurant. The food was terrible and horrifically overpriced. We had a group of friends that went there a few days after we did and they said the same thing - one of them is actually French and said that the food was atrocious. While I was here only for drinks, the primary word I have for Rubicon is "Enchanting." The service was not fast, but everyone behind the bar was very nice and they were busy for a Friday night. The wine selection is (you guessed it) primarily French, which was a nice change of pace from the dominant Malbecs and Riojas offered. They offer many exciting specialty cocktail options that seemed well crafted. The ambiance and decor make Rubicon EXACTLY the kind of place I would frequent at an almost-daily rate. The high ceilings, railing seating, chandeliers, spiral staircase and window treatments all combine to make the place one that you don't want to leave quickly. Disappointed! Took 1 1/2 hrs. to serve a tasteless, lukewarm entree, salad and 4 oz glass of wine. Keep in mind we were early diners and 1/4 capacity. No bread served with meal. Server stated "now days so many people are gluten intolerant". If concerned about waste and cost, then serve bread on request. Oh wait, there is an additional al a carte price for a bread basket! Although I enjoy fine dining, this experience was over hyped/priced. More emphasis on presentation than quality. Perhaps I lack French ancestry or am too good a cook. A friend and I both went to Rubicon to try it for our first time. Now, we already knew Qui Qui is a master and we both already love the food at Mangia Qui, so we were pretty sure this experience wouldn't disapoint....and we were both very pleased! They were able to accomodate us on a Saturday night without a reservation, and we sat at a lovely booth in the bar area. Service was perfect. We both shared several dishes: Salade Verticle, served on a 2 or 3-tier dish with an assortment of tastings. I particularly enjoyed the french green lentils and the quail eggs on this. That eve we were lucky enough to try the sweet and meaty Belon oysters! Heaven! We shared the Coq Au Vin entree and it was melt in your mouth devine! I can't wait to go here again, even if I should just stop by for a Croque Monsieur for happy hour. I wish I lived in the same neighborhood, I would be a fixture in this place! Fantastique! read more

Well well well, you don't get better if you know how to order and respect taste and experience over anything else. The house choice charcuterie is beautiful, the Rose is dry French perfection, the oyster happy hour is a huge bonus of wonderful and consistent oysters with a delicious herb vinegar. If they have it, as a special, you cannot miss the moscapone truffle french bread. BUT, above all, if you miss the octopus you have not lived. The chef should have to provide this as human right. Only been here once for a work group dinner but the porterhouse steak was fantastic! The appetizers and cocktails were also very good and they were easily able to accomodate our group of 10 on a weeknight.
