The salsa bar is clean for once lol. Well at least the cleanliness of it is being maintained. As I'm sitting here eating my food, I noticed one of the workers wipe it down after customer got from the salsa bar. My food isn't as warm as I'd like it to be. The red cabbage slaw is one of my favorites here. And the fries! Which is why I always get the fish and chips. The fish quality has changed. Sometimes it's all batter. Sometimes you get light batter and good amount of fish. I do notice a "smell" upon walking in. You order thru the app or self order kiosk, so you don't really get much service. Only service I decrease when they brought me my food. read more

10/7/25 Hanging out with a few Yelp Friends at this local Rubio's, delicious Taco Tuesday edition, good spot with a few large tables, casual ambiance, friendly service, This location is in a plaza with many other businesses so the parking lot can get pretty hairy on prime times. We ordered Hubby's shrimp burrito & my Mexican street corn bowl & a couple of beer battered fish tacos. The young lady at the counter was friendly & helpful. The salsa bar looked a tad/little messy but there's plenty of condiments to choose from. Hit the green salsa & toasted Chipotle salsa--very good. My Mexican street corn bowl was excellent, love the cilantro lime rice, black beans & guac, the grilled shrimp was perfectly seasoned. Hubby liked his shrimp burrito. Thankfully there was a communal table that we were able to score for our party of 9. This was a pretty good experience overall. read more

Here for the $2.50 Taco Tuesday specials . My first time here at Rubio's and will be my last . With some friends for dinner Although the staff were friendly somehow I didn't have the same experience as them . my food was forgotten I believe due to a Tuesday specials and they were swamped with the dinner rush orders . Nonetheless I wasn't a bit disappointed they did apologize for the mishap. I did find the self service salsa bar convenient , good selections of different flavors of salsas. salsa bar counter needs some up keep though. I didn't like the texture of the corn tortillas that came with the taco Tuesday specials , my partner and I thought the tortillas were hard and tasted stale, some edges were stiff. The meat flavors were alright , we had fried fish tacos, chicken & asada . The first round of fish tacos were fine , I like that it offers an abundance of slaw cabbage . My second order of fried fish tacos turned me off, as I opened to pour in more salsa I saw black strand of hair wrapped in the slaw ;( ;( ( can't be mine , my hair is brown ) I showed my partner he suggested I take it up and asked for a new one, I declined, at this point I felt my stomach felt queasy and wouldn't be able to eat. read more

Felt like having some Rubio's today since I hadn't been here in years. I walked in and the place was really warm. I wasn't sure if it was just me having my own personal summer, or if it was indeed warm. I heard other customers commenting on the temperature as well, so it wasn't just me. Service was prompt and my transaction was quick. I waited long enough for my food to go get some to go cups of salsa. I opted for the original fish taco and the Baja grill chicken burrito, which came with chips. The fish taco was stellar as always and honestly carried the meal. That's where the hype ended. The burrito was just okay. Tried to fix it up with one of the 3 salsas I grabbed, and sadly the salsas weren't even that great. The chips were also stale. Good to see the fish tacos are still good, but I wouldn't venture too far from those for now. read more

Came here today for an early lunch as I walked a good walk this morning. I had the Langostino Lobster two tacos plate which also came with beans and chips. They were really good tacos! I like the sauce that came on them, the slice avocado, and I put some lime juice all over. Super yummy! I washed it all down with a Mexican glass bottle of Coke. So refreshing! The ladies that work here are really nice. The restaurant is welcoming and very clean. I will come back to try other items! read more

I used to come to Rubio's more often, and I'm really glad I stopped by today. I usually get the fish tacos or shrimp burrito, but this time I decided to try the Salsa Verde Grilled Shrimp 2 Taco Plate and I'm so glad I did! The flavors were great, and everything tasted fresh including the non fried pinto beans. Ordering was easy, and the employees were friendly. The place was clean, and I love that they have a salsa bar with different options to choose from. My food came out in about 8 minutes, which was perfect. I'll definitely be back! Plus, parking is easy since it's right next to Terra Vista Town Center Shopping Mall. read more

Rubio's used to be a family favorite and in the regular rotation for places to eat out. After tonight it's clear that they have just rolled over and died. The real kick in the teeth was the so-called shareable steak fries. I thought I was being punk'd. The serving size was like the amount of fries they give for a kids side when you get a kids meal with the amount of meat from one taco for $12! The intent was for the whole family to get some but this is barely shareable between two children. I think we're going to be giving Rubio's a rest. The quality continues to go down while the prices go up. It's not a good value anymore, and it's not too tier for quality and freahness in a casual dining place like it used to be. It was a special treat to get Rubio's at the mall in San Diego, but this is a long way from the good ol days. read more

So I came with my girlfriend and we were excited to try because it was taco Tuesday and this place is always busy when we pass by ! So for starters these tacos are EXPENSIVE I WOULD NOT come if it was Tuesday because 5$+ for a tiny taco is not it ! So we basically got one of every taco just to try and if we liked it we would get another ! The chicken taco was terrible very small portion and the chicken was beef jerky dry .. the steak was okay but again the portion was horrible it was only condiments on the taco the only reason why I'm giving the two stars is because the fish tacos that was the only decent taco out of the three we had got .... So don't be like me with your purse strap around your neck while you're doing that taco head tilt. First time at this location for some fish tacos. Topped with cabbage and add your own salsa mixture to get that spice going. Self serve salsa bar with onions & cilantro, lemons limes and house made salsas. Bottled cerveza, sodas juices or self serve fountain drinks with teas and juices. Right off foothill next to yogurt land in Rancho Cucamonga. Patio seating with string lights. Inside are low top tables and large bar height table for a party of 10. Service was great from the staff here. The tacos were good but not as plump and juicy with perfect batter crisp like I remember years ago. Still it was satisfactory the salsas really added the right amount of seasoning to kick it up. No one in the restaurant. Purple hair gal at the cash register never even said hello. After looking at the menu and her not even acknowledging us, she finally says, what can I get you. Feeling completely unwelcome, the hubby said we should just leave. On the way out I saw a guy in a Rubio' polo shirt and I asked if he worked there. He said yes and I told him his customer service was terrible and we wouldn't be eating there. Glad we left because we found Don Baja Grill just down the street. Although the food was atrocious, the customer service was great. We were greeted upon entering this location and the wait was within a reasonable amount of time. My key issue is with the steak. Living in Southern California, steak/asada has certain exceptions that should be met in tacos and burritos. Paying $45 for a bowl, burrito and two tacos is pricey. I used to frequent this place often in the past. The quality of the steak will be the reason that I will not be returning. It was very chewy and tough. Not just one piece but all of it. After one bite of the taco, my little refused to eat anymore. Had we dined in I would have asked for a chicken taco replacement. We brought the food home and I am honestly not in the mood to drive back and argue. It honestly tasted like the fat or cheap part of a piece of steak. This Rubio's is the absolute worst. Forget that it takes them such a long time to fill an order in an empty restaurant. The food they actually get around to putting out is beyond sub par. The tall blond kid who is making the food on 7/8 at 8pm spends more time talking than actually paying attention to what he's supposed to do. And his sidekick with the glasses walked around aimlessly. Together, they formed a powerful bond of incompetence that has been unleashed on this unsuspecting world. I share in the blame, though. When I walked into a smoked filled restaurant, it should have been clear that good things were not happening in that kitchen. I hope this is one of the locations they plan on closing. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Not once was I acknowledged as I stood at the counter with the 2 woman behind the counter with their backs to me and then one looks at me and walks away. I will NOT be back. I ordered ahead for pickup and not once was I told to check the food that was already placed on the shelf (that I didn't even see). Went back to Rubio's today without informing the restaurant after the previous experience to see if things have genuinely improved without bias involved. I'm happy to say that tonight's dinner was up to standard. I ordered two rice bowls: one with white rice, a second with Mexican rice. Both bowls had fluffy rice. It wasn't gluey or wet like last time. I appreciate the improvements that have been made. With it being the only remaining Rubio's restaurant nearby, I hope they can continue to maintain high quality standards because it really is one of my favorite restaurants. read more

The last few times the food has been awful.I guess they have a new Chef.This last time Taco Tuesday was the last call.They chef sent out 2 tacos which were batteredI knew somthing was wrong when the tacos were smothered in cabbage so I took a bite and there was nothing but batter which was so crunchy and taste old.I try eating the second taco which was hunk of batter that was crunchy and burned.(not fresh).In my mind I was thinking I want be coming back I ended up throwing the fish in trash.Rubios please get a new Chef asap.Senor Baja makes the best original fish taci with white sauce. read more

I had the stale cilantro lime crunchy quinoa bowl with brown avocado. I paid $58 for three meals that would be below edible standards even for McDonald's or Am/Pm. This was our second and last disappointing visit. I contacted their headquarters and never heard back. No wonder the quality of this place has tanked. I will never go back. read more

It was easy to order from Rubio's. The husb and I ordered online. We used my birthday rewards which included a BOGO deal! Also, it was a Tuesday, taco Tuesday! We both got the fish tacos combo. I got it with chips and white rice. The husb got chips and beans. Food was great, service was great. Employees were prompt and courteous. In addition to my BOGO coupon, we both got an additional fish tacos, we also took advantage of the Taco Tuesday deal. Great service, great food. The salsa bar was available for us to use. There were lots of tables available. It's a fairly sized location. Something I appreciated was that we could park outside in the parking lot, rather than parking at a structure and having to head all the way to the restaurant. It was a busy time at the Rubio's, so it was buzzing with activity, people eating, enjoying their food and their conversations. We will be back if we're in the area. read more

Nice little restaurant very clean, the customer service is not the greatest, walked in never greeted, the salsa bar is not always ready during lunch, I also noticed they are very under staffed, so be kind and patient. 5 stars for Deja and the fish tacos - 3 stars for the chicken and steak street tacos. In the area for work and the closest rubios back home in the Bay Area closed, and the closest one would now be a 40 minute drive. When I seen a rubios, I had to get the immaculate fish tacos. Due to covid, the experience of going to the sauce bar to get all salsas, onions, cilantros, and lime as many times as you like for the experience was taken away but Deja helped me with all my sauce and requests with her immaculate service. For the fish tacos, everything that I remembered! Good size fish loaded with the fillings. Fish is breaded where each bite you get a good textured crunch factor with each bite. Just the right amount of crunch. Must get! Once you do, you will crave! Tacos were nothing special. Very dry! Just wanted to try just cause. Small chips were $1.29 and a large was $2.29, so might as well get the large! Holy! Look, it's a whole box! I was expecting those plastic wrappers for the chips to come in. As for the sauces, to me, the best ones are the Diablo, jalapeño cream, and picante. You need to specifically ask the cashier for the first two as they are not pictured to the public. Diablo for sure is a must! The other two can be added with Diablo to each taco or for chip dipping. Fish tacos at rubios is always going to be a ole reliable! read more

We arrived around 8:22 PM and ordered about $75 worth of food. The salsa bar was empty, so I asked the GSA for more picante salsa, but she said they were out. I went to the register to order a catering-sized picante salsa, knowing it shouldn't be out of stock. When we got our food, the tacos were poorly made, missing onions, cilantro, avocado, and cotija cheese. The chips were all broken and at the bottom of the tray, the beans were dry, and the rice was bland with no flavor. The new corn bowl was mostly rice with overcooked shrimp. It's disappointing because the food quality has deteriorated so much. This is why you lose business--poor service and low-quality food. read more

The whole experience was just strange. The crew was ready to be closed at 8:24 instead of 9 pm, which is when I think they do actually close. The white rice was no longer good, too hard to eat (could not chew, even though I tried). The girl at the register was laying her head on the counter and did not engage and seemed like she was sick or something. The crew in the back was clearly upset that we came in at 8:24 pm. But there was still a family after us that ordered too, so we were not even the last people there. We ordered a large side of rice (white rice) but she did not ask which rice we wanted. If they would have told us they were out of white rice, which they should have done, we would have been fine with the red rice, which they originally gave us. But they did not say anything, even though we could clearly see their faces behind the window and the front register girl even laughed when they changed out the red rice for old crunchy white rice. They were also out of the large side containers and instead gave us two four oz plastic Togo ramekin containers. We also order a large side of pinto beans, and seriously there is no other way to describe these; they tasted like water, absolutely disgusting. They were inedible, you could not eat them, they were horrible. I tried putting some of the Verde salsa on them but still, it did not help at all. We also ordered two sides of Mahi Mahi àl a carte (the girl did not know what that meant but that's okay because I think she is still a high school student). We told her just two sides of protein, which would be Mahi Mahi. We had also ordered one large side of chips and two California bowls, one with chipotle sauce on the side, and pinto beans instead of black beans, with steak. And another California Bowl with no beans. The Chipotle sauce was not on the side, and neither were the other salsas we asked for they instead gave us one red and 3 Verdes when we asked for 3 of each including the chipotle sauce on the side too (which we would have used to masked the taste of the sides of proteins, but we couldn't even do that because they didn't give it to us). When we were inside the store waiting for our order, I noticed the female cook in the back was telling the register girl something about our order specifically, I saw her begin to walk in our direction. I asked her "What's up?" She acted as though she did not hear me. She instead walked with her head down towards us and waited until she came all the way up to the edge of the table to inform us that the cook did not have any more Mahi to fulfill the order of the two àl a carte sides we purchased. She said, "I can either give you salmon, or shrimp or give you your money back." We were hungry so we asked if she could give us one of each, one salmon and one shrimp. She said she would ask. Then she went behind the kitchen door where you could see another cook (a tall guy) telling her something else and laughing. She came back to tell us they did in fact have enough Mahi to fulfill one order of the protein àl a carte but not the second àl a carte order of Mahi Mahi, then we asked for only shrimp to replace one of the side orders. She said okay. When she brought over the bags of food, we saw they were out of the large side containers and noticed they gave us red rice instead of white rice. We asked them if we could get white instead, however that was a horrible trade. I think the red rice was still good because it actually looked fluffy in the clear see-through plastic togo ramekins. When we saw the white rice in the see-through plastic togo ramekins we could clearly distinguish the white rice had a different texture, it evidently looked hard. The cooks could have just told us, We are out of white rice and we would have gladly taken the edible red rice, but instead, the female cook laughed about it gave it to the register girl, and let us leave with inedible crunchy burnt old rice. The absolute worst part was when we got home. The picture is what was in the food. Old black gunk from all the orders of previous food with burnt remnants of disgusting black stuff from the dirty surface they cooked our disgusting food on. Honestly, you want to know the funniest thing about this whole experience? Not more than 2 days before, we had gone to this same Rubio's around 2 pm in the day and it was a perfect experience. We ordered the same exact thing for ourselves, the two sides of Mahi Mahi, one large side of white rice, and one large side of pinto beans, and it was great. That was literally why we went again, but instead told our parents about it and said it was a great experience the other day, assuming it would be the same this time around too. Do not go to this location an hour or 30 minutes before they close. They do not care what they serve you even if it's disgusting gunk from the build-up of burnt scaps from the flattop. Sorry, not sorry. It was a waste of money in this recession we are now in. Go to wahoos! read more

I'm never disappointed! Their food is always fresh and delicious. Went today got a citrus ancho burrito. This thing was packed with shrimp and so much goodness. Employees are always friendly and the place is always clean. Today a was greeted with a bunch of balloons for their 40 years of service. Went today to get food and I haven't been here in years so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the 3 street tacos (steak) w/no guac just cilantro and onion and it came with beans and chips. I also ordered a side of mild salsa. Had to get takeout due to the current times...anyway it was "ok". Nothing to the about. The tacos were extremely dry, the tortillas tasted like they just took them out the pack and and warmed them up and put it on a plate. The steak was dry. I should have asked for lime. I'm only giving this place 3 stars because the chips and salsa were really good and I was extremely hun. I'll go back and maybe try a burrito or a bowl....maybe it won't be so dry. Update!
