This is the best Asian food, no, best food period, in the north shore. I've tried it in person for lunch and on grub hub twice. It didn't disappoint any of those times. The lunch special is awesome Bc you get 4 different dishes for such a great price. And dinner through grub hub always comes hot and much sooner than predicted. The flavors are so good and authentic! Stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday around 1:30PM. Restaurant was busy. Waiter seated us promptly, was friendly, and gave us menus and water right away. While there was just one waiter serving, we were impressed with how efficient he was. We ordered the lunch special with chicken satay, tom yum and tom ka soups, pad thai, and basil stir fry and included hot tea or coffee or desert. We were surprised by how quickly the food came out after ordering. The chicken satay was cooked perfect (not dry) and served with a delicious peanut sauce and some marinated cucumber slices, soups were spot on with flavor and not too spicy, and pad thai and basil stir fry had great portions and were really good. They serve their food with a chili hot sauce which I put on all my food which added some extra kick without being too hot. Happy with our lunch experience at Ruby of Siam and will definitely be back! read more

Great tasting food! We ordered in the chicken Tom kha, chicken pad Thai, beef lard nar (flat noodles), shrimp pad see ew, Penang curry w pork, and fried chicken wing special, all mild. The flavors were perfect, not too sweet or salty. Chicken wings had a nice crunch and came w sweet chili sauce. The Tom kha soup was creamy and a bit lemony, and the Penang curry was just right, although mild still had a kick. Definitely will recommend and eat again if I'm in the area. read more

Excellent Thai food! The menu is extensive, with plenty of veggie options. We've been here a few times, and my only complaint is that the service is excruciatingly slow. Only two servers were there at peak dinner hour - the place was about half full - so it took 10 minutes to get water, another 10 to order, 15 more to get our appetizer, etc. If they could step up the service, it would be a terrific dining experience. read more

Their lunch is exceptional and very reasonably priced. The interior decor is very nice authentic Thai. It is upscale from most Thai restaurants. My experience is they will always go out of their way to give the customer exactly what they want. Nice location in downtown Highland Park. read more

I am not impressed with this place at all. Aside from the cute & colorful interior, everything else was subpar. First, the water had a very strange flavor to it, so bad that the three of us in our group could barely drink it. Their crab ragoons are called "Ruby Crab Legs" and are long sticks of deep fried crab meat. I could stop thinking of them as a full deep fried leg of crab. The Chicken Lettuce Wraps have no sauce or flavor (see my picture). They're literally just plain ground chicken dropped in lettuce. I was shocked since the picture in the menu looked different. Gross. I'm giving them 2 stars because their Crying Tiger app was pretty good. Not sure if I'll be back. read more

Best Thai restaurant we've been to in Chicago area! Well had lime chicken and crab rangoon for appetizers paired with Pad Thai and Coconut Red Curry and noodles. Flavors were outstanding, service very friendly and prices very reasonable. We will be back often!! read more

I came here for a girls night on a Friday December night and had made reservations as downtown HP gets pretty busy no matter where you go on a Friday evening. Upon arrival, the place has a charming look to it and we got a longer booth towards the end of the restaurant which was nice so they get a star for a nice and cozy atmosphere. Okay, now the service was a little off, we had to wait quite a while for someone to even take our order, then once they did not everyone got their entrees out at once which is kind of annoying as everyone wants to start eating. I personally was the last one served after everyone already got their meals. I have to say everything was eh, the crab ragoons were unique and tasty so they get another star for that as those are definitely worth trying if you are here. Then the soups we got as well as the pad thai were super bland. Definitely didn't think you could mess up a pad thai, but I guess it is possible since this was one was eh. Overall, the food was just very bland even though the portions were decent in size. The service was off throughout the night and they messed up our bill at the end by charging us double of the same appetizers. Those things aren't impressive to me and when there's so many other places in HP this wouldn't be my first or second choice for sure. My husband was so happy to see Ruby of Siam in Highland Park. He grew up in HP and has been missing the Thai food of his childhood. He was hoping that RoS would have the one thing he's desperately been missing: Mee Krob. Well, they do, and it did not disappoint! Atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, service was a little slow, but the restaurant was crowded and I think there were only two servers. Sure, its a little bit pricey, but the portions were large! What a disappointment! I love Thai food and I was so excited to finally be getting a dedicated Thai place in my hometown! Went here for lunch with business associates to check it out and had a major let down. The food is mediocre and service poor. First we were seated and presented menus. The prices were really high. We thought okay we order a couple of dishes and split them to keep the cost per person within reason. One of my associates had the bright idea to ask if there were any lunch specials. Yes in fact there was a whole menu with lunch specials. Okay, don't know why we weren't given them in first place but we had them now. Now we can each get our own. The quantity and number of courses is quite large for lunch. I think they would do better to offer a bit less food and a lower price, Four courses, appetizer, soup, entree and dessert. I had the fried egg roll (vegetarian) appetizer and it was the best part of my meal. The Tom Ka soup had slices of lemon grass in it that were inedible. Fine to flavor the soup but don't serve something that has to be picked out. Gross. Pad See Ew is my very favorite Thai dish and their's was not good. I actually crave this dish at times but you won't see me coming back here for it. There are other places in the north shore that I can drive to get my fix. The service is atrocious. Besides the menu issue, they brought the wrong soup for one of my companions and when we pointed out the mistake no apology and he was made to feel that they bringing the wrong dish was his own fault. The server was difficult to flag down and was fairly rude to us through out. Still waiting for a really good Thai place in HP. There's opportunity here folks! read more

Finally Thai in Highland Park. Solid, classic chicken satay. Good spring rolls with chicken sausage instead of tofu as an option, which was interesting, and the sauce was light, not the typically heavy plum sauce. As I am regrettably eating less, I took a pass on the curry but tried Kai Yud Sai for the first time. It's sauteed ground chicken described as being covered in a thin layer of egg, It comes presented like a square omelet, and the server in fact called it a Thai omelet. I had never had it before and it was really great. The egg paired well with the ground chicken. I am not a dessert guy, but my wife ordered the Mango sticky rice. The sweet but not too sweet rice was flanked by slices of mangoes, oh my, very good. Certainly for anyone in the area, you should give it a try. They should have their liquor license by the end of the month. Five stars I reserve for The Publican, Longman & Eagle and places like that, so four stars is a complement. Finally! A Pad Thai in the suburbs that I enjoy!! I've been looking for years in to find Thai that I really like outside of the city. This one I really enjoyed. Had the Pad Thai with chicken, and then tried two other chicken dishes. One was just a stir fry I think, and the other was like chicken and garlic. Both were good. The food is ok, when they dont screw up an order. I have ordered there many times for pick up, and half the time they get the order wrong. DO NOT ORDER FOR DELIVERY! It takes them 90 minutes EVERY TIME. Its almost silly how slow they are. Also, calling them can be very frustrating, as they just wont understand you at all. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant in our neighborhood. The carry out is generally ready within 20 minutes and the food is excellent. We stay within the more traditional items for carry out and are never disappointed. All the soups are great. The medium spice is actually a perfect blend of flavor without overwhelming. The chicken pad Thai is good, but needs some added hot sauce. The chicken and pork satay combo is also a favorite, mostly because the peanut sauce is rich and savory. read more

Solid place. Ordered takeout on a Monday evening, was told 25 minutes. Food was ready when I got there. Crispy vegetarian spring rolls and Pad Thai with tofu, medium spicy. Rolls were tasty, good texture on the filling, not to greasy. Myself and several coworkers ordered Ruby of Siam last night for dinner. Since it was take away this review is based solely on the food. I had the pineapple curry with shrimp. The shrimp was cooked well and the pineapple curry was tasty. The curry itself was a wee bit soupier than I have had before but I guess just add in more rice right? There was a just a smidge of heat to the heat to the dish. I would have liked some more heat but they didn't offer heat level options. It's ok, I added sriracha. My friends all seemed to love their food and I was able to wrest away a pot sticker from a fellow coworker. That was pretty darn good. The time from call to picking up order was about a half hour. Pretty good considering there three entrees and two apps. On my next visit to Highland Park, I'd definitely eat here again. read more

I really loved this place! I went with coworkers during lunch and no one was there. I think we got there right when it opened but no big deal. It was comfortable seating and had really cute decor. We all got the lunch special which was around $13 for a four course meal! What a steal! Totally worth it. You were able to choose between about five different options for an appetizer, soup/salad, entree, AND dessert! I got the wonton soup which was served in a nice big bowl - different from the usual cups I see, and the fried spring rolls which were two-bite sized items but they served about six for you! For an entree I got the go-to chicken pad Thai since I'm a typical American, but whatever... It was the best I've had! So good and filling. I then got the Thai custard for dessert which was a bite size item, but it didn't really matter at that point because i was stuffed! We even laughed when we got the bill and it turned out to be $55 for 4 people. A must go! A hidden gem! read more

Three stars means just OK. My meal was Par, if that. I asked for the Red Snapper, and the server went back to the kitchen and said they were out. About five minutes afterwards, someone else came out of the kitchen who said "I found it". I was like..."found what?" She said "the red snapper...in back of the freezer". No thanks. I may be a snob when it comes to my fish but I'm not eating frozen fishickles! Instead, I ordered the drunken noodle with beef. I asked for no spice and it was sweet and didn't agree with my tastebuds. The beef was grounded and not to my liking. Chicken satay was good, the dumpling appetizer was just ok and the sticky rice was the only thing that was great. We also ordered the shrimp curry and shrimp fried rice. Those dishes were both good. I really do not understand the four and five star reviews because my experience was very different. We ordered the pad Thai and another noodle dish. It was very flavorless and the noodles were soggy. Zero heat, despite asking for medium heat level. The other noodle dish was somewhat more flavorful but watery and lackluster. Both dishes were overpriced for the amount of food we got. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items, but they were so bad that I would not recommend this restaurant nor do I plan on eating here again. read more
