I've been to the Ruby Slipper on Magazine street quite a few times and had a wonderful experience. This location was in walking distance to my hotel so I thought I would visit before I left NOLA. I arrived on Monday morning around 8:30. The hostess although not the friendliest seated me right away. My waitress came over about 5 minutes later. She was lovely but I didn't get her name. I usually get the shrimp and grits but opted for the chicken and French toast bites with a side of grits and a cup of coffee. The presentation was beautiful. The food came out warm. The chicken was good. The French toast had a lot of cinnamon and was ok and the grits were mediocre. I personally wouldn't visit this location again but I wouldn't want to discourage people from visiting. read more

Was pretty pleased with my experience here. Was seated right away which was nice. I had the shrimp & grits (Carolina style) which came with a side biscuit and honey butter - really good. I also got the mimosa flight which was also good. I loved the different juice options as it wasn't just the basic orange/pineapple/cranberry. Food: super huge portions. I ordered the sweeter menu items that I thought would be small but to my surprise the meal was over the top generous. The French toast included a large biscuit and fruit. The table ordered some candied bacon to share as well as bite sized French toasts sticks similar to the Burger long sticks that we enjoy on road trips. Joined using the online wait list so only waited 5 minutes for them to wipe a table down upon our arrival. Ordered the southern BLT and migas (being from Texas a bit different from what I had in mind but still good nonetheless) Also ordered the vanilla iced coffee and the mimosa. It did take over 15+ minutes for either to arrive. Restaurant isn't that large for it to take that long in my opinion. Everything was enjoyable however though very personable, our server seemed a bit unfamiliar with the menu. We asked which mimosas were what flavors and were told he didn't know and then he handed us a menu for us to become the newest contestant on Gordon's Ramsey taste palate test and just sip and guess. Five stars is the least of exaggeration of this empire of a breakfast and lunch location located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It always feel good to be home, but Ruby slipper never fails at making you feel like you are at grandma's house. The shrimp and grits are phenomenal. The texture of the grits is warm and has a great consistency and the seasons within the juices - marinates perfectly with the shrimp. We also ordered kids pancakes, which was huge in its proportion for the kids. I cannot exaggerate the smiles on the kid's face when eating a cinnamon swirl pancake dripped with powdered sugar in a glazed sauce on top. The biscuits, there are words that cannot explain the different tastes and the crispiness on the outside and the gooey soft cooked inside of this biscuit to match, but it is extraordinary to say the least. Not gonna lie, I had higher hope this spot. Tiktok gave me the insight for this place, so the girls & I decided to go as our last meal before our return flight. Upon entry, we were given a time frame of about an hour wait, which in reality was maybe half of that time. The staff moved fairly quickly with seating parties and our party of 4 was called soon. The establishment itself is crowded, a little tight on the inside. A lot of "excuse me" getting to our table. When we finally got our food, the food was... sadly average. All the girls at the table said their food was "okay". The catfish needed hot sauce, the grits weren't the best I've had. Just - literally average. Something to satisify the hunger desire. I guess we missed the hype. The food is very reasonably priced and everything we got was tasteful and richly flavored, as you'd expect in NOLA. I've been to Canal Street a long time ago, and I didn't have a bad experience there. But this last trip, I like the energy at this location (Decatur). On that note, I always get the Trifecta because it has a little bit of everything when it comes to their Bennies (Eggs Benedict with Biscuit) . Egg Cochon, Chicken Sr Charles, and Bayou Shrimp. I do prefer the Bayou Shrimp. But since I was going to eat all those carbs and calories, I always order a side of candies bacon. How could you not? Bacon and brown sugar. They have other locations all over the New Orleans. In addition to that, there are other location in the Gulf Coast. Ruby Slipper is an adorable little restaurant with amazing food, and I definitely recommend stopping if you're visiting New Orleans! It was quite busy when we went (Mardi Gras time), so if you're going during brunch or a busy time like that, I suggest calling ahead or making a reservation online (join the waitlist on their website). The service was great and quick for how busy they were at the time. The atmosphere is fun and bright, with a giant red slipper sculpture on the wall to finish it off. I went with friends and I had the Chicken St. Charles, which is fried chicken over delicious, fluffy buttermilk biscuits, topped with two poached eggs and a creamy pork gravy sauce. It was so filling and tasty - I had to share with my friends to finish it off. We also had some Mardi Gras French toast that was covered in edible glitter sprinkles in Mardi Gras colors. I started off with a boozy coffee drink and it was not good the chocolate was clashing with the Irish cream and something about the taste of the drink was off. My server was nice for the most part. The menu looked great so I ordered a decent amount off of it considering it was a solo date, and I regret wasting the money. The loaded tots was the best item I ordered. They were cheesy, savory and very flavorful. The shrimp and grits once again just tasted off. It's not like they weren't seasoned but its flavor profile was offputting. I also wanted to sample the cinnamon roll pancake. That was the biggest negative of the meal. The cake itself was tasty but personally I need either chocolate chips or a thick cream cheese glaze (in terms of this cinnamon roll pancake) to be satisfied. The glaze was honestly gross, the one thing that saved the pancake was the fact that I got a cinnamon butter. It's a very nice casual restaurant with a nice deco and quick service. Ordered the banana foster French toast. Ordered without bacon and it came with bacon. They took it back to remove the bacon. As we were eating it, found a small piece of bacon under the toast. The bread is a little soaked with the syrup on the plate so not great. The banana is a little crunchy so great texture. Glad I came to try this wonderful establishment while in town for a couple of days. I came in to try the gf French toast but ended up ordering the Eggs couchon Benedict. I was not disappointed but I would have liked to try both. Anyway, I arrived a little after 9am in a Saturday and sat at the bar. I didn't have to wait. The service was excellent and the coffee superb! I asked my server what their favorite dish was and they recommended the couchon bene so that's what I got! These are so good... especially the fried chicken! They are served over biscuits so it's heavy, but worth it. Note the mix and match doesn't come with any sides (I think the other Bennies have a side salad). We also tried the seasonal Beignet (bc it's Nola, obviously).
