His suggestion for the Sangria was "chef's kiss." ​Saturday: I brought my kids (ages 2 and 11) and we shared the French Toast Bites and the Pig Candy Bacon. It was a hit with both of them. They loved the eggs and grits and cheese too lol. ​Sunday: Choosing this spot for Mother's Day says a lot about how much I value this staff. I've been to other Ruby Slippers and this was the first time here. I arrived on Friday around 11. I was greeted with a big smile by the hostess. I was seated by a not as warm second hostess. There was no smile or welcome, she sat me at a 4 seater table and I mentioned since I was alone, I could just sit in the bar area. I thought maybe she didn't hear me as it took a few seconds for her to respond, and when she finally did, it was just a shrug and she turned around and walked away. So, I sat down and it took nearly 10 minutes before anyone came by to get my drink order. My waiter arrived and he was also not so warm. I ordered the martini espresso and the chicken toast bites. I also ordered an extra pancake. My espresso took a while to arrive. But I did have water. I think it took around 20 or so minutes for the drink to arrive and the food arrived shortly after. They said the pancake would arrive in a little bit. I enjoyed the expresso martini, it was sweet and had some good coffee flavor, so I'd order that again for sure. And the fried chicken was good but a little dry. The French toast were yummy but needed syrup. As I finished my meal, my water went dry and the waiter from the other table checked on me. I requested to get my pancake to go since it hadn't arrived yet, I had somewhere I needed to be, and I requested that he bring the check. That waiter seemed a little more friendlier. I also checked out the bathroom and who doesn't love bacon n eggs wallpaper?! The front space with the corn hole and greenery is really nice. It is one of the larger Ruby Slippers. And the entrance you go down a long walkway to get to the front area. There is a parking lot for customers as well. I had the pig omelette with egg whites with a side of berry pancakes to end on a sweet note. This is such a cute spot that's somewhat tucked away. The ambiance is casual but very comfortable, making it a great place to take someone for a good brunch or an afternoon bite. I came to this location of Ruby Slipper with a friend and it was just a bad time from start to finish for us. The service was just really awful during this visit. We got our food served to us fast enough but we never got our drinks until well AFTER we had finished eating. So we literally only saw a server when we put our orders in and then other people brought our food out and just dropped it off and ran off then the server finally brought our drinks with the bill quite awhile after we had already finished eating. It's salty, it's savory, it's sweet, it's chewy, it's crunchy. It can't be beat! My hubby always goes with the three little pigs omelette: pork three ways cloaked in Swiss cheese. Ruby Slipper on Broad is my favorite of their locations. It's an easy go-to for breakfast. I love being able to join the waitlist ahead of time to avoid long waits. However, if you must, the outdoor area has games to play while waiting. The Ruby Mimosa is a generous pour and the splash of pomegranate juice gives it a nice flavor. I tend to usually get the Migas as an entree, which is a Tex-Mex bowl, but usually ask for light cheese. I will say that their pancakes are very good as well. The Ruby Slipper has become such a New Orleans staple that even most out of towners mention it at this point. They have capitalized on our fascination with brunch in New Orleans, and they do it well. The decor looks like a south Louisiana creole grandma from an alternate dimension had a fascination with brunch and a pride for Louisiana. About a year ago we dined here and did have a super weird experience, but considering I didn't remember to log the experience, and have a card from management for free food, that's all I'll say about that and won't hold it against them, other than theorizing that the Saturday experience versus the Sunday game day or festival day experience could be completely different. Today, we were seated right away, although tables of three or more seemed to be having a short wait. Our server, Chef, is a hospitality treasure. I got a bacon Bloody Mary, which is infused with bacon and comes garnished with a thick strip of the hangover cure, and a flight of mimosas, all delicious, although the watermelon pomegranate was my favorite. The eggs cochon was fantastic, with a perfect biscuit on a spinach salad, pulled pork on top, and a poached egg on top of that. One of my eggs was overcooked, but I mentioned it and they brought out a replacement that was perfect. My partner had the shrimp and grits, which were delicious, if a little short on shrimp and taso, which explains how they're keeping their prices so competitive on the dish, so you can't really complain, it's a choice. I recommend drinking them in order of ascending sweetness: 1- pineapple peach Bellini 2- blue orange 3- watermelon pomegranate 4- blueberry lavender. This was a good option for 2 people. I'm not sure what is responsible for their color- I wish they'd list that. It's a great touch that they are illustrated on their menu exactly as they arrive. Chef, our server, was welcoming and even gave us an estimate on how long the food would be. The wait was not long at all. He checked in on us and was informative. I got the shrimp and grits. This time I got the creamy vanilla spiced latte - espresso, vanilla syrup, milk and cream topped with whipped cream and nutmeg. There was a lot of whipped cream, which I would usually hate, but I went with it. I asked the server for her pick between the biscuits and gravy and the bayou shrimp benny. Because it offered more bang for my buck, I went with the biscuits and gravy. You can get this with either pork sausage gravy or chicken sausage gravy. I opted for the pork and chose chicken sausage for my side. The meal also comes with two eggs any style. The sausage gravy was tasty. Not too peppery, like some others and the biscuits were delightful. Soft and fluffy but they stood up to the sausage gravy and were't overpowered. I also added on a fried green tomato for $1, which was just okay. I could kind of tell that the grease wasn't super fresh (it was nearing the end of the shift). My friend got the cinnamon roll pancakes, which were delicious. They literally tasted like a cinnabon and you didn't even need to add syrup. I used to live in New Orleans, but haven't been back, or to Ruby Slipper since 2019 and I must say, it kind of felt a bit commercial. Everything was fine and the service was friendly, but it seemed as though they were kind of phoning it in. I remember coming here and it felt like a small, family operation (even if it wasn't).
