Was here a couple of times before and it was good. This last time, a little below average food. The wait staff was great as usual. I had a Creole Rueben, and my friend had The Migas. It took an exceptionally long time, which the server said was because the kitchen was behind on fries. So, everyone at the table was waiting 40 minutes. I told them to substitute fruit for fries. He brought it out. The Rueben was dry and the corned beef, fatty...but tasteless. I also got grits... pretty bland. My friend with The Migas was also disappointed. We snagged one of the last available tables and about 10 minutes after we arrived, there were about 10 customers standing around waiting for a seat. We were happy to be greeted and seated right away. I had the debris Benedict and it was crazy good. Y'all, the fluffy biscuit, the sweet, tender debris, the rich buttery hollandaise - it was over the top. My only complaint was that it was a little tough to get the attention of our waitress. She didn't check on us after she brought our food, and I was hoping to add a coffee to my order. Unfortunately, the following exchange occurred between my wife and the lady at the front check-in/kiosk: The "Lady" was expressing to one of her co-workers how frustrated she was with how busy it was, and how hectic the morning crowd was. Then she acknowledged my wife's presence. Lady: Can I help you? Wife: Hi. We'd like a table for three. Lady: (With a bit of an edge) Are you on the waiting list? Wife: Well no... Lady: (Interjects) Hhm. (Dismissively while looking down) Well there is a 30-45 minute wait! Wife: (Taken aback) Well, ok. Exits with my daughter. My wife called me to meet them outside--I was just about to park next door in the lot--so I was just outside the door. Once they got in, she shared the above. I should point out that she also said, "I decided to go since if we stayed, and I shared this with you you would've had to speak to asked to speak to the manager. And I didn't want to do that on a beautiful Monday morning." Yes, I certainly would have. I considered pulling over, parking, and having that uncomfortable conversation anyway. But that would've marred an otherwise beautiful morning. So we left Magazine street and drove over to Saint Charles Avenue taking a right on Carrollton Avenue. We enjoyed the (for me) familiar sights en route to the Waffle House on Canal street, but I suggested we try Betsy's Pancake House (about five blocks from my old High School, Warren Easton). We are seated at our table waiting on our orders now. To be clear, we have no issues with "waiting lists", the 30-45 minute wait, or anything else. I did not get the name of the "Lady" (african-American female, caramel, late 20s, mid-30s). I suspect her attitude was just a hiccup in the Ruby customer service. This was a missed opportunity. But we will plan another visit to this location the next time we are in town. I choose to view this visit as a misfire. Found this place online and decided to try it. Arrived and waiting over 30 min to be seated, understandable. Sat down and placed our order for two orders of Catfish and grits. Ordered eggs last. Received the eggs first, the cheese not even melted in the eggs, just poured on top. The waitress came back and sttd they don't have Catfish, it is frozen. No one came by and said anything for over a hour since we place the order about no catfish avail, would you like to replace it. That's a DAM shame. Now , what really set the edge was when these white people sat down and approximately 2 minutes later, she serves them when we were obviously sitting there longer (and sat close to us!!!) than they walked in and sat down. It's 2025 people, I thought refusing service due to skin color was over and done. I still cant believe she didn't serve us anything, not even a drink!! How can you act so oblivious ? She knew damn well we were seated, and she saw us. Y'all need to stop hiring people who can't professionally serve people regardless of skin color. One look at the menu and pictures and there's no way you can resist coming to the Ruby Slipper. The only problem is choosing what to order! I suggest coming with some friends, ordering a bunch and sharing because it's all incredible. I simply had to order the Beignets with pumpkin marshmallow, and they did not disappoint. Just perfection all around. I love that they have a full Benedict's menu and you can mix and match, I went with the cochon and creole. Ruby slipper I knew this to be a pretty popular brunch spot in New Orleans so I added our name to the waitlist ahead of time for the Uptown location which was a little less busier then some of the others. When we arrived we awaited another 20 min or so before being seated. I forgot our waiters name but she was literally the best. She was so sweet, attentive and knew the menu very well. Literally EVERYTHING I had was delicious! I mean EVERYTHING! We started with the French toast bites and the seasonal beignet which was like a berry Chantilly cream. Both were amazing! The French toast was served hot and fresh and fried to perfection with the right amount of crisp! It was served with a glaze that set it over the top! I'm a sugar addict so the Chantilly cream was everything to me! I literally wanted to lick the bowl when I was done but I had to keep it classy! For my entree I got the Peacemaker which was a choice of two types of Benedict's and in my opinion a really great deal. I chose the Eggs Cochon and the bayou shrimp. Both were pretty good but I definitely preferred the eggs Cochon over the bayou shrimp only because the bayou shrimp had a tomato based sauce in it so it wasn't white the vibe I wanted for my Benedict but it wasn't bad either (I still finished my plate!) I also ordered a side of the white chocolate bread pudding pancake. I'm glad I got to try it because this too was also delicious if you like bread pudding but I was literally sooooo stuffed that I couldn't even finish it. My friends orders the mimosa flights and they weren't huge fans of them. Out of the 4 they only liked one, which one was wine colored one. We got a recommendation on the rental car shuttle from a couple whose family lives here. It's a mile from where we are staying so decided to give it a whirl! Our waitress, Harper, has so much peo in her step, gave us some good recommendations for the area and was an amazing server. We got the Chicken St. Charles and the Costa Rican. Awesome place to order brunch from! It's so amazing that they are doing brunch specials so you can still have a great brunch in quarantine. We ordered the variety 6 pack of sliders and the cinnamon swirl pancakes. They were both amazing to split between two people with some leftover sliders to snack on later. My favorite slides were the mini BLT and mini cochon slider but it was awesome to have the option to try them all. The cinnamon swirl pancakes were a delicious sweet treat and I definitely recommend trying them! They have a lot of different family brunch meals including a pancake box, building a Bennie kit, BYO mimosa, and BYO Bloody Mary kit. There is something to be said when they knowingly are aware that your food is overcooking, and they comp your bill before you say something... Ruby Slipper wants to bring your food out all at once. OK. That is fine. This is nothing out of the norm for a typical restaurant, however, when I ordered a simple burger to be medium rare and it comes out well done - that is frustrating. My frustration from this meal doesn't just come from the fact that my burger was overcooked. In fact, that is the most menial part of it. My beef (pun intended) was from the first impression of the server. She was very attitude-ish. We had a party of 3. We learned one was going to arrive late due to him going to the wrong location. The location he went to was on the same street, but 13 minutes down the road. I sent the location to where to meet, but he didn't check it. That was his mistake, no big deal. We said we could order for him while he Ubered over. Before I even got to express this to the server, she interrupted me and said, "well, are you going to leave?" with such a snotty attitude. It made my skin crawl. I made my feelings known that I was going to stay. My friend gave me a side glance once the woman left. She was not feeling the server either and almost wanted to leave just on the basis of the first impression. I told my friend I wanted to dine elsewhere and not give my money to someone who was as disrespectful as that. We sent our friend the menu via text, we got what he wanted for brunch, and we were ready to place his order upon her return from getting our waters. Upon her return, she asked how long we needed to wait to place orders. We said we were ready and that he would arrive soon and offer on his behalf. She took our orders with the same annoyance she had previously. Fast forward to our meals. The orders my friends placed for brunch were decently happy with their orders. My burger, on the other hand, would have been Trumps's favorite: burnt to hell patty with ketchup on the side. I ate most of it forcefully since I was hungry and I was pretty happy I didn't have to prompt for a manager to get it comped since the server took it upon her self to get it removed from my bill when she brought out the checks. The comped burger was the best part. She went on to explain that the chef knew that I wanted it cooked medium rare, but he didn't want the food to be sent out one at a time, but instead, put it under the warming lantern to keep it hot until all food was ready. She did that only cooked it more. Now whether if that is convincing or not is to be determined, but still... if you're knowingly aware of that, why send out the burger anyway? Her attitude had somewhat subsided but still existed through her body language. I am not sure if it was the day or us as a table, but it didn't change the demeanor. Before we left, I went to the bathroom. It was a total mess! No soap in the dispensers, no toilet paper in 2 of the 3 stalls, and paper towels leading out into the restaurant from the inside of the bathroom. Someone else had reported it right as I was about to exit since someone came in to clean the moment I had opened the door. I ended up waiting 10 minutes or so before getting to return in. Why is it 11AM and the bathroom looks like a mess? 2 stars firm. I just can't get on with the hype. It wasn't that great and I was happy to leave. read more

Food was amazing! St. Charles Chicken Eggs Benedict was delicious and the Bacon Bloody Mary was perfect! We were there on a super busy day (the St. Patrick''s Day Irish Channel Parade day) and the service was still super friendly and fast. They love their customers and treat them right! Kid friendly, walkable to shops in that area, and long bar so you have a place to wait if they're packed. My only feedback is that they only have two beers. So we took the trolley to Ruby Slipper since it was a place the two I went with enjoyed and they wanted to give me a chance to taste their food. Via Yelp we added our names to the waitlist which was nearly an hour but they said it'd be worthwhile. So we arrived and got seats out front. Waited patiently. The time is ticking down and finally some folks walk out, less than happy and one guy yells, "Sat inside and waited an hour and a half and didn't even eat!". What? Another group of folks come out grumbling the same thing so my friend walks up and speaks to manager. Turns out the place is at capacity, only two cooks in the kitchen since the others called out and they apologized for not letting those outside know. Oh well. It would've been appreciated to learn the mess before we lost so much time waiting. I am hoping those who were still inside eventually got to eat. We got an uber and bounced. read more

I ate breakfast at the Ruby Slipper 3 times during my stay in New Orleans. I had 3 different orders. The first was the Chicken St. Charles, amazing, 5/5 must try item. Second was the blueberry pancakes, there were TOO many blueberries, i was getting 3-5 every bite making it a little less enjoyable, 4/5. At the height of the brunch rush on a Sunday, we were able to use the waitlist on the website--a handy and thoughtful option that meant we didn't have to wait in the sweltering heat. Instead, we showed up towards the end of our window, watched for the text and walked on in to sit at the bar. The place was loud in a good way, cheerfully raucous and filled with both tourists and locals. Our host behind the bar -- a low key guy in a green shirt with a cool city armband tattoo-- was cordial and had helpful hints about the menu, guiding us to the Benedicts for which the place is known (now we know why!) and approving of our decision to get one sweet and one savory offering that we'd share. Also the fried green tomatoes appetizer. BECAUSE SWEET BABY JESUS THOSE FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. Just go. Order them. This is an unpretentious dish that had layers of flavor that our incredibly expensive dinner the previous night couldn't touch. A little peppery. A little candied bacon. A remoulade to make the angels weep. Listen, I live with a chef. I know food and she knows food and we were having a kind of unseemly experience with those tomatoes there at the bar. It's other small stuff too. A huge generous glass of orange juice (from carton, but still good quality). Water glasses that stayed full despite the crowd. The rest of the meal was just as good. The restaurant was very welcoming at 7:45 am. It was quiet, clean and with just a handful of guests. We basically had it all to ourselves, and considering we had an 8:30 appointment, we were thrilled. After my son ordered a burger (who eats a burger at 7:45 in the morning?) and the waiter said it would take a while, we decided to order two southern breakfasts: eggs, applewood smoked bacon (two strips), grits, biscuit and fried green tomato. Save for the tomato, everything was great. The grits were creamy and properly seasoned, the eggs were fluffy, buttery and melted in my mouth, the bacon was deliciously crispy, and the buttermilk was big and fluffy. I had the orange juice, which was very good, but kind of expensive at $4.00 a glass. The waiter was very pleasant and fast and very accommodating when I told her we had an appointment and couldn't stay long. She recommended the southern breakfast because it could be prepared quickly and she brought the bill while we ate to get that out of the way.
