Honestly my experience didn't start out 5 stars but it damn sure ended up that way. It took a while for our server to make his presence known but he more than made up for the sluggish start. He also apologized for the wait and I totally believed his reason. They take orders from a pad and I clearly saw him having trouble with his when we walked in. Now for the review. Party of two for breakfast. We both had coffee which was served in large cups and tasted great. My wife ordered a pancake flight which was three pancakes, chocolate chip, bacon and praline, and a cinnamon swirl. The pancakes were the size of frisbees. She also got an order of bacon. She liked them but loved the bacon and praline. I got the standard breakfast which included eggs cooked to order, grits, bacon, and a biscuit. I also got a side of corn beef hash. The eggs were over medium and were cooked to perfection and hot too. The grits were really good and had a rich savory flavor. The bacon tasted like it was apple smoked and was a solid medium. Not too limp or crispy. Now one of the unexpected flavor explosions came in the form of a cat head biscuit and a butter/brown sugar spread. Who ever came up with this creation needs a bonus and a vacation. Cat head biscuits are as large as a cat's head. The real gem of the day was the corn beef hash. This nearly drove my tastebuds insane. The corn beef wasn't some scraps that had been through a food processor. It was pulled corn beef with fresh new potatoes cut into small cubes and skins on. I've never experienced corn beef on this level. Frankly I could have made a meal of this side. In the end the meal I would rate the server friendly and very attentive. By the end of the meal I had all but forgotten our hiccup on the front end. I didn't take any pictures but I hope I've created a picture through my words. For some reason I thought this place would be a small hole in the wall restaurant, but when you walk in it's very spacious and modern. I was able to get seated right away and the waitress was prompt and friendly. I ordered the Costa Rican, which doesn't seem to be listed on their website. It was scrambled eggs covered in cheese with black beans and rice, chorizo, and fried plantains. I was in a rush so I didn't get to relax and eat, but it was a solid choice. I personally prefer sweet plantains to savory ones, but they were cooked well. It was a lot of food and I didn't have to wait long for it to come out. It was crowded for Sunday brunch. I was so glad I could use Nowait app, we didn't wait too long In front of the restaurant. You must use it, if you're going on the weekends. I had Peach Bellini and it was so good. My hubs had mimosa, it was not bad. Then I had grapefruit mimosa. It needed more grapefruit juice, but waitress brought me more, so that was all good. $10/drinks for our orders, bu so it was filled up, so I'm not complaining. My hubs wasn't too satisfied with his French toast. He's had better at other restaurants. My smoked salmon omelet was delicious!! Service was great. You can't go wrong with the Ruby Slipper, it's number one on my list for taking visitors to. In my 3 visits I've consistently had spectacular service considering the overwhelming popularity of the Slippper. I've also found the online waitlist is also unusually efficient at slimming your wait down from hours to just a few minutes. Starting with the basics, they've got some really great coffee. As for the food, with all the kickass options they offer it's way too hard to decide on just one of the egg benny's, thankfully they've thought ahead here and the peacemaker is a great way to try a few (without the all too typical inconvenience caused by mix and matching a food of this type at other places). I'd also strongly recommend the bananas foster, the best I've ever had. (pro tip: get the peacemaker and the bananas foster and share) read more

Went to Ruby Slipper for the first time, it's very popular and was very busy when we arrived around 11:10am on a Saturday. About an hour wait was well spent walking around Palafox, very good area. Seated inside and the environment is very jubilant and loud, definitely a fun place to go, though not really my preference. Food around us looked very good and the servers were busy, but not overwhelmed from what we could see. I ordered the Southern style breakfast, two eggs any style with a biscuit and grits (I substituted for potatoes), waitress was very helpful and explained the menu + any specials happening. This is where the problem starts! I asked for my two eggs fried, over-easy. Anyone who's cooked eggs before or even done some quick research on the subject knows that over-easy means runny yellow, firm whites (sometimes a little runny if it's not cooked perfectly, but who cares that much!) Simply put, the eggs I received were borderline raw (pictures attached). The rest of the food was pretty good, not the best, but the eggs were simply horrid. I was planning on just ignoring them and trying to eat around them, but my party insisted I say something. I'm not the most confrontational and assured them I would be fine, but one of them ended up speaking up for me and the waitress claimed that what I received is what they consider over-easy at this restaurant and I should've asked for over-medium... I suppose every restaurant is different, but that's quite different! I did get a new set of eggs, but no new plate of food (even though the egg whites had soaked through everything). The new eggs I got, requested to be over-medium, came out almost over-hard (pictures attached). I still ate a good portion of everything and it was good, but this issue with raw eggs definitely shouldn't go unnoticed! read more

Pretty disappointing today. We shared the Hot Smoked Salmon Benedict. For starters, the dish came out at very, very close to room temperature. Though the poached eggs were nicely prepared, if the salmon did not come out of a can, it was one heck of a good canned salmon imitation. Not enjoyable, especially cold. I requested additional sauce hoping that might help but it came out at room temperature as well. I actually had a difficult time talking myself into finishing it it was so unpalatable. I should mention that I reported this to our server as he presented our check. He kept the check and went to apparently talk to someone. He returned with the check saying he had spoken to, I guess, a manager but no there was no response beyond that. I should know by now to quit ordering Bloody Mary's in restaurants and bars. Not one in a hundred is worth the "meh" experience much less the ten or so bucks that is charged for these unhappy drinks. My wife and I finally visited this gem for this first time the other day. First, and I'm serious, if you go on Saturday or Sunday you better call ahead or you're going to be waiting. Horrible parking around there as well, BUT keep in mind it's Pensacola their parking is horrid anywhere. Now for the service and food, I can't stress this enough, amazing. Their portions somewhat confuse me. Our second visit here, I tried the mix and match eggs Benedict- I got the pork (great) and the salmon (dry). Both are served on top of a huge buttermilk biscuit, the eggs were poached nicely. On the other hand, my husband got the "Migas" aka the eggs on tortilla chips with avocado. The portion for that is extremely disappointing, especially in comparison to the benedicts, their full plate pancakes, or their sliced brioche French toast (what our friend got), in addition, it seemed like an even smaller portion that our last visit. The bananas foster French toast was drowned in syrup, so if you're not a syrup fan, I would ask for it on the side. Otherwise, the coffee is hot, the service is okay, and parking is so-so. read more
