The most disappointing Thai food I can remember eating in my entire life. It wasn't even good food. No good vegetarian options, but at least I finished my food. (Probably because there was nothing substantial in it--only two pieces of tofu.) My chicken-eating companions didn't even want to finish their meals. I just need to remember to quit trying food at this Oakridge Mall food court. This was the third place I tried here and three strikes for three and was the worst of the three. A pleasant surprise. I walked by and didn't think I would give this place a shot but I was enticed by their prices. Gavin and I were hungry but I didn't want to go to 2 different places and spend more than I have to so I got in line for their 3 item combo. Spent about $10 including tax for fried rice, mango chicken, grilled chicken, and Penang chicken curry. Probably the best $10 ever spent at a mall food court. We both enjoyed our meal. Gavin was pretty hungry after an hour of straight play so he had about 30% of the fried rice and 85% of the mango chicken. I had him try the grilled chicken and he liked it but his focus was on the mango chicken. I was engrossed w/ their Penang chicken curry. I didn't have high expectations but the curry was sweet and spicy. It's rather heavy so I was glad they put it in a small container otherwise I wouldn't have been able to control myself. About 15 minutes later, we were walking back to the play place. Since Gavin was recharged, I let him play for another 45 minutes. The meal had me feeling full and satisfied for 6-7 hours. Please don't order for green curry. Perhaps the cook in the kitchen had no idea about the green curry. Their green curry was watery like french onion soup and filled with potatoes ( not fully cooked either). No Thai basil or coconut or lemon grass. I came here for the first time this afternoon and was very impressed. I had Singapore noodles and coconut shrimp with a Thai tea. It was very reasonably priced and very tasty. I also really appreciate a pescatarian option as they can be hard to come by in that food court. I look forward to to coming back. read more

Currently, feeling nauseous thinking about the few bites of fried rice in my body right now. You can immediately smell and taste the staleness of the rice. I've only heard about restaurants that "wash" their rice at the end of the day to re-cook and serve the next day. This is exactly what came to mind after my first bite! Rice was soggy and the stale smell was so off-putting, I had to toss it and forbade my kids from eating it. As an Asian having eaten rice for practically my entire life, I've never had my home-cooked rice smell or taste that stale... ever. Used to love Ruby Thai like 5 years ago... won't ever go back after today. To top it off, their payment system was set to default to an Asian language so you couldn't even understand what options you were selecting. When I mentioned I didn't understand what the machine said, they came over to change the language setting to English. Typically my 1 start reviews are due to poor customer service. Today, I received pretty energetic, upbeat service from this guy.... but the good was just terrible!!! I came out of my movie realizing I hadn't consumed any lunch yet, so for the sake of time Ruby was the spot chosen by default located near Jamba Juice, where my kid was getting a snack. Anyway, as soon as i opened my tray of pad thai, and eggplant tofu, there was a peculiar smell. Nothing rotten or foul, just not very appetizing. When i began to eat my noodles and veggies, I was immediately turned off by the taste- match of thr smell. Noting on my tray tasted nearly good. I was very disappointed.. and hungry! This week I had to buy a gift card at the mall for some gifts and it was close to lunch time so I figured I'd try something at the food court. I hate mall shopping but at the time it was fairly empty (mid week before lunch rush). I love Thai food but my family doesn't care for it as much as other cuisines so I made a beeline to this spot. The workers were very friendly and efficient. It literally took me two minutes from start to finish (picking food and paying). For a fast food type place it was decent. Is it authentic, nah. But for less than $8 it met my starving needs. Solid, fresh veggies not over cooked and decent flavors. I'd come back in a pinch for sure. 7/14/21 Yesterday I was at the Oakridge mall. Decided to go to order food at the food court. First ordered Sarku chicken, as I was waiting for my order. I passed by Ruby Thai kitchen. Decided to order seafood soup. Tom yum and paid for it. I told the cashier, I'll be back I'm picking up my food from Sarku, because I was so in a hurry to go home. I've completely forgot to get my soup at this place. Went home completely forgot about the soup. Last night, I remembered, I said oh crap!! Luckily, I was coming to the mall the next day Bc of my daughter wanted to go shopping. I went to see the manager at this place, told him what just happened. He was arguing with me and he sounded like I was lying. I said why would I come here and waste time arguing with you. He said you could be those people would say something like this and bring your receipt. What the Freak, this manager is an a hole. I told him I will make sure that I will never come back and order anything from this Thai food and make sure I will Yelp you. What kinda customer manager is this dude. TLDR: Low prices for large portions (better shared); Taste is ok; Get free samples! Ruby Thai Kitchen is located inside Oakridge mall's food court. You're able to try a free sample as you walk by since they are always handing out their popular mango chicken. If you're ordering, you can ask for samples to try their other dishes, too. RTK is considered fast food and they give you quick service. I've personally never had a bad experience with their employees. Ruby Thai Kitchen offers very low prices and gives you large portions. Personally, I have difficulty finishing my entire plate that I have to share with a friend or save the rest for later. A two combo plate tends to be around $9. RTK has always been my favourite and my go-to when eating in the food court, especially because of taste and price. However, due to a decline in quality, I think I may opt to eat somewhere else. I always get the mango chicken and bbq chicken. When RTK first opened, the taste was beyond amazing. Over the years, however, they have not maintained the quality of taste in order to serve even more customers. The mango chicken gets soggy and the bbq chicken has gotten chewy and does not have as much flavor anymore. It makes eating not as enjoyable and I don't want to finish my meal anymore, which feels like a waste. If I were to eat RTK, the Valley Faire location is much better and up to standards. read more

I know it's food court food but it was bad even for that. I got fried rice and mango chicken. The chicken was mostly sugary breading with all that goop on it, and seemed like it had been out forever. Decent fast food spot when you need a quick meal at the mall. My hubby and I wanted a quick bite before our movie. Panda Express had a huge line so we decided to try this spot as it had none. Their mango chicken sample was good, however when we ordered it along with teriyaki chicken and the noodles, the meal ended up being SO sweet. We felt like we just ate dessert for lunch ( and my hubby loves his sugar). This place definitely uses the foot in the door technique. Samples here and samples there. They will let you try just about anything they have behind the glass showcase. In fact, they will very likely wave you down. It seems they are doing everything possible behind that small enclosure they are trapped in. Either they own the place together or the owner definitely has trained them to sell. I myself fell for the sample trap. I felt bad walking away after taking a sample. So, I thought why not give them a try. I chose the two entree plate and as I looked at the options I realized there wasn't many vegetarian dishes. I ended up getting two different types of tofu. One was an eggplant tofu very similar to Panda Express. I really can't call this Thai food. Another spicy tofu dish with red peppers that are usually found in Chinese food. I was very disappointed by these two dishes. I'm not sure what they are using to create their flavors but it has to be msg or some form of it. I couldn't wipe the taste from my mouth and the meal left me for non stop thirst. I ended up throwing away most of it. I just couldn't find myself eating it later. I wouldn't really call this place Thai food, maybe Chinese food with some Thai dishes. Try it for yourself and you will see. read more

Anyways while on my way to buckhorn grill I pass Ruby Thai chicken and what caught my eye was the mango chicken. I haven't had pad Thai in while so that also helped my decision. Pad Thai is extra and I also wanted to try the bang bang shrimp. One word WOW!! The shrimp is friggin' fantastic!!! The mango chicken is also pretty good. Mango chicken = BOMB-CLUCKING-TASTIC! Crispy and sweet with minimal batter, it's reminiscent of Panda's famous orange chicken. They seem to make it fresh because it's always moist and never stale. Healthy options aren't plentiful, but they do have some veggies (it's not steamed or stir fried, so stewed?) which you can substitute for the mandatory rice or noodle for the 2 or 3 item combos. I ask for the 1/2 veggies and 1/2 fried rice because I need the rice, or I get the shakes. I do enjoy tofu and eggplant, but that entree was a bit too salty for my liking. You must go mango chicken and something else. The bang bang chicken or spicy chicken is good, or bang bang shrimp for protein variety. They have a few premium options like the salt and pepper fish and pad Thai, but I've yet to try them. Maybe when I get that bonus I'll consider it. Eating out everyday ain't easy. read more

The food may be good (er at least as good as mall food court food can taste), however I got it to go and the container they put it in....I highly doubt it's actually microwave safe because wow that plastic smell was terrible. It wasn't clear if it was a language problem, or lack of familiarity with the food, or just plain indifference, but the food they claimed was not spicy was too spicy for me to eat. This is one of my most favorite places however, the lady that was serving had pencil over her hear to write orders, She dropped it in the food, used her had to pick it out of the curry sauce and proceeds to serve others! We asked the cashier and the manager to remove the food item and he ( the owner) left it as if nothing happened!!! So angry and I'll never go back !!! WOW! So we were at Starbucks deciding what we'll be having for lunch and my fiance picked out Ruby Thai Kitchen. We've never been there and it's been at the food court for a while. Good thing we didn't find out about this place earlier because I'd gain so much weight! Their food is of great quality and it's not salty or greasy, which is perfect. It's a great cheat meal and tastes great! I got their two item menu with chow mein, eggplant tofu, and grilled chicken. All entrees were excellent and of great quality which is very important to me. It definitely is better than Panda Express. Give it a try! You won't regret it! read more
