Love this joint. It's usually not very busy whenever my husband and I come by. But the restaurant has wonderful attentive employees, a fun atmosphere (you can't really go wrong with a 50's diner) but they also added a sea life element that I find captivating when there. Large fish go around the restaurant on a track. It's very pretty and pleasing. And of course you can look out at Redondo harbor and the ocean. Would definitely recommend! Decided on yoyo burgers and chicken in Anaheim, but while we're driving down the street we saw this Rudy's. I haven't seen or been to a Rudy's in years so we decided to do this instead. We ordered two Burger meals, two sandwich meals, two milkshakes and two sodas. When did food become so much money? Our total was $85, and to me the food was just average. Even my 14-year-old said we could have eaten at Raising Cane's twice! Like I said I haven't eaten at Rudy's in years but I do remember the milkshakes being really good, but now I feel like they were just average, no different than what I would have gotten at In-N-Out Burger. Had to practically scream for the server/host to hear I was picking up an order and the name for the order. He still couldn't hear anything that he had to stand extremely close to me to look at the phone receipt and then i had to yell my name again for him to finally hear. He took an extremely long time to find the order that while i was waiting a different server came and asked if i needed help, he was standing further away and could hear me perfectly fine without the yelling. First off, most meals seem to be served in a basket now and not on a plate. They don't offer breakfast all day any longer, my husband was disappointed. He was planning to order their Cinnamon Roll French Toast and could not. He ended up ordering the Turkey Sandwich which is now on toasted sourdough bread, not a Ruby Roll. He said the flavor was still good, it was just different because it was crunchy bread and not a soft roll. He ordered fries with his sandwich. They have regular fries now, not the shoestring fries. Bummer, we enjoyed the shoestring. My son ordered the Chicken Tenders, with tater tots, it also comes with coleslaw, in a basket. The chicken tenders flavor was the same but you get about half of the chicken that you got with the dinner on a plate, for the same price. I know things are more expensive but raise the price a buck or two and give enough chicken to satisfy an adult. This was seriously more like a kids meal portion. I ordered the Adult Grilled Cheese (grilled sourdough with parmesan, 2 kinds of cheese inside) and tots. The flavor of the sandwich was really good but I think it was cooked too hot, the outside was almost overcooked and the inside cheese was not quite melted. The tots were yummy!! I am a loyal customer, been getting Ruby's burgers at one location or another for 20 plus years. I have Loved your burgers more than anyone else in So. CaI. and we visit weekly. I am mourning the loss of the usual familiar burger. The new menu seems to also include a new burger patty that just doesn't taste as good as before. The bread tasted different too, slightly sweet. I have never been to this Ruby's and it was very clean and very well staffed with loads of parking in their private adjacent lot. With the diner craze waning a bit and moving from retro to hipster ( The Counter, Slaters and Umami burger come to mind ) Ruby's seems to be holding it's own. Ah Ruby's, the chain that is reminiscent of 1940's Americana and comfort food dineresque eats. Located on Lincoln Blvd in Anaheim, this particular location opened up in 2010 and its building actually has some history to it: originally constructed in 1928 and known as the "Five Points Building", this location served as a commercial spot consisting of shops and office buildings during Anaheim's early days. When construction began on this Ruby's, the designers actually worked w/ the Anaheim Historical Society and the Anaheim Museum to include various "iconic" photos and art pieces to place in the interior. This location was also the first Ruby's to feature a car hop (in which some of the employees would approach your parked vehicle in skates and proceed to take your order). They dubbed it the Ruby's Five Points Drive-In, but it seems that particular idea didn't quite pan out. Thankfully they still have the classic diner motif to fall back on. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Ruby's offers various American options such as burgers, BLTs, bacon and eggs, etc. Their burgers are pretty decent and certainly do the trick when the mood should strike and do keep in mind that they offer bottomless fries, but I have never seemed to request anymore than what was initially served. The best thing about Ruby's, IMO, is the many choices of shakes and malts that they offer. Oh wow, are those sons of bees ever tasty! Sure, they have the boring old standbys of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, but they also offer so much more variety: 50/50 Creamsicle, Chocolate Turtle, and Black Forest are prime examples. They are served in a tall glass w/ a tin of the "pour over" so there is always a little extra. They also offer rotating seasonal flavors throughout the year. The inside of this location is always warm and inviting. The bathrooms and interior are clean and service has always been good when I have visited. They even have a gumball machine by their front door and if you're lucky enough to find a red gumball you'll score yourself a free root beer float. We stopped in here before heading home from a weekend at Disneyland because I wanted a malt or shake of some sort and I know that diners make the best kind. I looked up places in the area and this came up. Yes, I know it's a chain and I normally don't like chains but we all go to chains from time to time, right? We got here and was seated immediately, people all gave us the look since we brought an infant in. Our table neighbors were worried about the newborn screaming or something but she was sleeping the entire time. Our waiter was very suggestive of the new shakes and add-ons, just like a good waiter should be doing. My husband got a kobe burger and the oreo shake and I got the pineapple shake with the cobb salad. My daughter knocked her chocolate milk over (even though it had a cover) and it got everywhere. Before we can call our waiter to get some help, he walked over with a mop! Very fast! I was impress with that! He came back with a refill for my daughter before we can even blink!
