It's very hard to even give this place one star. If there were no stars to give, we'd be in business. Now please understand this review is for service, not the food. We were seated fairly quickly and that's when things went down hill. The hostess gave us our drinks. My husband said, "she gave us our drinks and took off." I said, "No honey, that was the hostess." So we waited, and waited and waited some more, all the while two tables who came in after us were seated and had their orders taken. The manager Gerry even looked at us with our menus down waiting, he said nothing. Our waitress finally arrived to take our order. My husband went up to the front to speak with the manager, Gerry. He told us he'd take care of it. No apologies for the crap service. At the end, the bill came and they offered us a free dessert to apologize. My husband and I declined, we don't need the dessert, and we were full. Still no apology. Instead of the dessert why not take off the drinks? Why not apologize. Gerry is a horrible manager, with no people skills. He didn't even look at us as we left the restaurant. We are perfectly fine paying for our food, but come on not even a coupon for a free appetizer on our next visit, not even an I'm sorry for the mistake? I know things happen we're all only human, but the way we were treated was ridiculous. This wasn't my first time there, but it will be my last. It's unfortunate because the brie turkey sandwich was yummy. The service at the Orange location lounge is bad too. Milkshake! Came here for a meeting with the videographer whose business is above the Diner. His office is there! It was hot, so we got a milkshake. It's fairly close to work, offers a discount for my company, is not very crowded, large, and the service is great. You know what I like about Ruby's Diner? It's a known entity. You know what you're gonna get every time regardless of what location you go to. This is classic diner food at its finest. Pancakes, hash browns eggs for breakfast. Burgers, salads, fries for lunch and dinner. Oh, and the shakes. We can't forget about the shakes at Ruby's. They use real ingredients-no powders- in their shakes. Such a guilty pleasure that you have to do at least once in a while. I mean they're loaded with calories but you have to do it at least once in a while. This location is particularly special because it's actually a historical landmark. So if you're a history nerd like I am you can eat here and take in some old Anaheim. And definitely go a few times so you can try a few different options. You won't be disappointed. read more

Our server today was Tice and he truly went the extra mile to make our experience a memorial experience one. We were having a later night dinner and saw Ruby's Diner. It looked very inviting. We had shakes and Burgers. It was very satisfying. The waiter Juan was outstanding. Very accomodating and ALWAYS smiling. I was exhausted but his smile pepped me right up again. The atmosphere was terrific. They had great seating, the inside was immaculate. Ruby's has become the new standard for Night 1 of our trips to Anaheim. To the kid, it's the "motorcycle place" for dinner that arrival night, on account of the Indian motorcycle just past the hostess counter. We last were there on a Tuesday -- kids eat free night, bonus! -- but until that kid-laden crowd arrived, it was dead quiet. Bonus for that, but it was accordingly light on staff, so the unlimited refill on fries was a bit tough to achieve... but to be fair, I really don't need to sit and eat unlimited fries, so after one waved-'em-down refill, it was plenty. All told, out the door for $23 or so for the two of us and the freebie kid. Expensive. For 2 burgers, a salad, clam chowder, and a shake cost over $40. I cannot see where it was worth it. I ordered the Aloha burger. Instead of saying "Hello" I should have said "Good Bye" That was terrible. I hated it. Nothing like what I was expecting. My fiance was fine with the clam chowder but I thought it was sweet for some reason. I don't mind co-workers mingling, thats great, but when they are all blocking one of the routes to get out of the building and don't bother to move or even tell the customer goodnight that's another thing. My fiance and I are pretty laid back people and like to make nice with our waitresses/waiters. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was casual and relaxed but what really impressed us was the excellent customer service! Pieter, the owner, waited on us personally and I really appreciated his commitment to ensuring we had everything we needed. He was friendly and engaging, and even offered to sing for my wife when he heard it was her Birthday. Menu is the standard Ruby's menu but this place is so beautifully designed and put together. Doesn't hurt to dress in my best vintage dress and come over for a slice of apple pie :) The food is consistent and tasty. The bleu cheese burger is soooo good and the chili cheese fries are amazing. They have CARHOPS! It's amazing. They're all dressed up and wear roller blades and it's so much fun to order from them. Everything is super clean and the food is always hot. Oh man! I had burgers this whole weekend, and stopped here with my friend to meet up with her brother(whom suggested it) before we headed back up to northern cali. I couldn't believe how amazingly good this place was. The cheeseburger i had was DELICIOUS!! the best I've had in a long time. It was seasoned perfectly, juicy, and i wish i could have another. On top of that, i decided to order a chocolate milkshake to take on the 6 hour drive back home. The man who delivered it, made it look so good, my friend had to try a bite, being lactose and tolerant she was unsure of ordering one herself, but the man was so convincing letting us know he made the milkshake, and made it how he thought anyone would like it just like he would, and let me tell you, that was one of the best handmade milkshakes I've had. I am a fan of Rubys (except the one in Yorba Linda which is horrible). With cool locations like the HB Pier and Balboa Pier, what's not to like? This new location in Anaheim has a different feel. My roommate and I got to this Ruby's every weekend for breakfast. Sometimes, both Saturday and Sunday and we're always have excellent meals. Thelma, the weekend Breakfast server is great. She usually starts pouring my decaf and his diet coke as we're walking in the door. The beignets are our decadent treat, but definitely worth the calories. The Kobe Beef hamburgers are juicy and delicious. The atmosphere is atypical of most Ruby's. It has more decor and less of the white, sterile diner feeling. I did not realize that this location just opened as we stumbled on it by accident. I was attending a benefit concert at Anaheim High School that wrapped up at about 945 pm and was starving. I had noticed Ruby's on our way to the concert and had been to their Seal Beach location so I sort of knew what to expect. As we pulled in to the restaurant I noticed that this in fact was not the typical Ruby's you would find at the end of a pier or located in a mall. First of al the exterior of the building is done in that classic route 66 style that used to be common in California but rare today. I was very impressed with the attention to detail. They actually have parking spots facing built in television screens playing old TV shows. You can pull into a spot and be served by waitresses on white roller skates. We parked ourselves in the regular parking and decided to walk in. The interior decor is even nicer than the exterior. This place is just fun to walk into. OK so enough about the look of the place. We were served right away by a very cute and friendly server who took our order and was helpful in helping us decide what we wanted. I ordered the Hickory Bourbon Sliders and it comes with fries that for an up charge can be switched to garlic, blue cheese, or sweet potato varieties. I ordered the Garlic fries along with a hot cup of coffee. My Daughter ordered the BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad. Our food did take a bit of time to come out but it wasn't too long. When it came out we were not disappointed. My sliders were awesome. They had crispy smoked bacon on meat that was perfectly cooked with a warm crispy onion ring and a tangy BBQ sauce. Oh yeah and they serve them on a King's Hawaiian roll. YUMMO! My daughter's salad was HUGE. I think our only complaint would have been that it was a bit lacking in dressing which I am sure they would have been happy to bring us more of if we had asked but y the time that the dressing had run out she was full. I am very glad that we chose Ruby's to wrap up our evening, I have a feeling that if we had not been as tired as we were we might have split a dessert but we will have to leave that for another visit. Oh yes, and the cost of our meal was extremely affordable for what we got and the quality of the food, service and superior atmosphere. my daughter and my four grandsons went to Ruby's on the oceanside pier to have lunch it started off with having the booth not big enough so we asked for a bigger booth, they said they would clean it for us but 20 minutes went by and it still hadn't been cleaned our waiter told us they did not have time to clean the table. So we ordered pink lemonade for the boys while we waited when our waiter brought the drinks it look like brown foam was in the lemonade. We just ate at Ruby's and really enjoyed their food. We both ordered the Seafood Combo expecting smaller portions that is pictured in the menu. We were very surprised to receive a plate with "very large" portions of shrimp, cod fish, coleslaw and plenty of french fries. The food was great and the atmosphere was very energetic. We ate in the restaurant vs the outside. We were seated upstairs and were seated within 10 minutes of putting our name on the waiting list. The price may seem a little spendy but the portions make up for it. We also ordered to their chocolate milkshake and this delicious drink. It was "delicious!" We didn't even know this Ruby's location existed until hubs got a gift card from my parents for his bday and we decided to search for one that was closer to our house than Tustin or Costa Mesa. What a find! So yeah, Ruby's typical 50's diner, but I love that this location has carhop service. My 10 month old son was fascinated by the pretty girls on roller skates. I got the Santa Fe burger, messy but good and hubs got the Mediterranean burger, really excellent. I personally was not a fan of the 2 slices of cheese on the burger, but if you love cheese, you won't be disappointed. Sweet potato fries were good and onion rings didn't disappoint. I mean the burgers you get from a place like this are diner-style of course meaning if you're looking for a gourmet-style burger do not come here. Patty was fresh, crisp lettuce, pale tomato, decent pepper jack cheese, and the chipotle sauce was great. Spicy Jalapeño Jack Cheese Sticks - YUM! I love cheese & I love jalapeño so these little cheese sticks were the perfect appetizer. They come with bbq ranch, ranch, and chipotle dipping sauces. I loved all 3 and think they all went well with the cheese sticks. OVERALL: Great restaurant if you're looking to just sit back, relax, and enjoy diner-style food. Went here after my brothers graduation and enjoyed every second! It took us a while to get seated, but it might have been because we were a decent sized party. Once seated, the service was very nice! Always around and our water was constantly filled!! The food was excellent as always! Bottomless fries! Great burgers, sandwiches, wraps. I was actually really surprised this place had such great service because I grew up in Anaheim and we're not the greatest place to be, but I'm so pleased with my night here!! I really enjoy coming here for breakfast with the family. We try and arrive here a bit earlier on the weekend to avoid the crowds. I like to get the normal pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, spuds and beignets. Beignets are my favorite since they are always freshly made and the mixture is just right. I had the great opportunity of visiting rubys again during my first yelp elite event. There I was fortunate to sample 5 of their burgers: siracha, Swiss, super, classic, and hickory. Reviews for all 5 are listed below. 1. classic burger Classic wasn't too bad! It was juicy enough, had a good amount of flavor, and definitely a staple to try if you ever go to rubys. 2. Hickory Unfortunately I didn't like the hickory. I have never been a fan of bbq, and it's pretty hard to make a good one. The meat was dry and the sauce was too sweet. 3. Super This was probably the best burger I've had at rubys. There's something about sourdough bread that makes the burger amazing. The parmesan they sprinkle on the burger gives it an amazing kick though makes it oily. 4. Siracha burger Siracha was a new twist to their menu! I loved the blend of jalapeños with the cilantro. I'll definitely get it again ,though I wish the meat was juicier 5 Swiss burger This one is for their turkey Swiss. Though I love the beef one, it's really dang hard to make a turkey burger great.
