Rude customer service. I understand with Covid around you have to make a reservation. I didn't think anything of it until later. We were asked to step outside and make a reservation before they could seat us at an empty restaurant. We didn't make a big deal and did what was told. While dining in someone else walked in and was seated without reservation. I felt like she was being racist because we are colored people. I found it to be really rude. Never ever go to this place. Terrible management. Ordered extra cheese on an omelet and I did not receive it. Complained to the owner who was the cook and he would not take the 2.00 off the bill. Amazing curbside service with online ordering... I go every time I come down to the cape!

The place needs a serious, serious deep cleaning. Torn table coverings, filthy window dressings, piles of dirt and dust on the ceiling fans. The plates are stained and need to be replaced. The door to the place is filthy which does not help a first impression. Watch an episode of Restaurant Impossible or Kitchen Nightmares and you'll see that Ruggies has all the telltale signs of a dirty restaurant. It made me concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen but I put my faith in the towns health department that it was recently inspected. Despite the dirty conditions, the food was actually quite good for a basic breakfast. The eggs were cooked well, coffee of good quality and the pancakes made from scratch Advice to ownership. Close down for a day in the middle of the week in the off season, hire a professional cleaning crew and a painter and clean up the place. Consider changing the flatware as well. read more

Went to Ruggies today with my mom and 2 kids. Staff was very unfriendly almost to the point of rude. Service was not good either. I never got a refill of coffee or water once. Now to the food...DISGUSTING. seriously the corned beef hash was the grossest thing I ever ate. It was sour and looked like a patty of vomit. The following represents mine and my families experience. Hopefully your experience is different. Food - 2 star Service - 1 stars Ambiance/environment - 1 stars Food. On the plus side the eggs were good and the french toast and pancakes were cook. On the needs improvement side: The corn beef hash was the worst ever. Tasted like it either had something with vinegar in it or cooked with ketchup. It was truly disgusting for both me and my son. The bacon was limp with little meat, basically low quality. The coffee was luke warm and weak. Service. We were the 2nd group in the place so they cant say they were busy. Service was slow and unattentive. She once asked how things were but she was already walking away before she finished asking so it was clear she didnt really care if we liked it or not. Environment. The biggest complaint are the 10 fans blasting full speed above and all around you. Your food probably has 2 minutes before its gets cold from all the drafts. We asked why they had so many fans on and they said because later on it will be brutally hot. Maybe so but why do you need them on so early and why blast the tables with hot food? It's up there with my favorite breakfast spots. The staff actually appear to enjoy their jobs, and the prices are unreal in a good way. Try the casseroles, or the combos. This place was nothing special. They were pretty limited. They didn't even have skim milk for the coffee. Also- they had a big sign on the door that read, "No outside food.". That really stinks if your kid only eats corn muffins! What do they care if you sneak in one little muffin? People need to ease up! Let some poor, tired parents eat their breakfast in peace!!! THE WAIT Bad experience: Since the man at the breakfast counter (who shouted over the people eating at the counter to communicate with us - he may be the owner?) thought that we said "Ten" when he asked us for a name and not "Ken" (which is what we said - shouted, really, to be heard over the din) we watched as we waited outside and people who arrived after us were being seated while we continued to wait. We had been told there was about a 20 minute wait. After more than a half of an hour, or so, I went back in and inquired about how much longer the wait was estimated to be. Still having not broken even so much as a welcoming smile for us, we were told, loudly and flatly, about his error and that we would be seated next. He pointed to a table that was being cleared off. After it was cleared off, I went to it to sit. The man at the breakfast counter snapped at me, telling me not to sit there, but that I could sit at a smaller table that was just being cleared off. Then he shot me a long glare, presumably because I probably looked disgruntled. Imagine!?! THE FOOD HORRIBLE!!! I was really hoping that the rest of my visit would redeem the bad beginning. But, alas, it just stayed awful. Knowing that I would be writing a Yelp review later, I ordered one of their signature meals, "The Melting Pot." These are breakfast casseroles, with international themes. It seemed daring, inventive, and delicious. I ordered the Irish Melting Pot, which is potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausage, onions, kale, and melted cheddar cheese. Firstly, they forgot to add any kale. Secondly, the sausage was room temperature (disgusting!!!) The cheese was third-rate. Finally, the first half of the oblong casserole dish was all greasy eggs, cheese, and (warm) sausage, the second half was all potato. Repulsive! THE COFFEE Yuck, watered down and weak. THE SERVICE Awful. No class and poor manners. I don't like to judge harshly, but we were treated badly. It was a very bad experience. THE AMBIANCE Typical of a noisy and hectic diner. I've been here several times since I love Cape Cod and live pretty close by to Ruggies. The food is always outstanding - omelettes, caribbean waffles, apple crisp french toast, italian melting pot, cinnamon raisin toast...I could go on. The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. This is a family owned business, service is excellent, very courteous people. Wait for the food was just fine, atmosphere is welcoming, prices are great for what you eat, fruits on any dish are very fresh, the meats (e.g ham) is very tasty and fresh. I would totally recommend it. read more

I have never seen such a good selection for breakfast. I am not a particular fan of the staple breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles. So I was delighted to have "The Irish" which has Kale with the eggs and potatoes. The sausage was one of the tastiest I have ever had for any meal. The prices are great! We should have known when we parked in the back parking lot and the dumpster had trash and a random toilet surrounding it (health code violation perhaps?!). Went to Ruggies for breakfsat on a rainy, early November morning. We sat in the window seat. I had a beautiful view of fall leaves coming down in front of the old, steepled church. Hot coffee, french toast was super good and covered in berries (the berries were cold - which isnt my favorite), yummy bacon and home fries. It was friendly, local, and quaint. It is located in an old two story house accross from Bates Hardware. Overall, a great way to start the morning. Decor was homey - nothing too special, but charming enough. read more

This is a small but excellent little cafe in historic Harwich. If you blink you will miss it as you drive down the road. It is open year round which is unusual. In the summer it can be crowded and there are only a couple of large tables. The menu is surprising large for such a tiny place. They have great waffles, good eggs, and coffee to die for! I had a ham, cheddar, and tomato omelette with home fries. Well prepared and fast. There were lots of families with small children there and the wait staff was friendly and engaged. This is my new favorite place for breakfast. It is right off the Cape Cod rail trail if you want to bike there for breakfast or lunch. Ruggies is not bad, but its not anything special. Note, if you have a party larger than 6, pretty much forget this place. Its small, and the largest table seats 6 and thats the only one. The apple crisp french toast sounded great but it was terrible. ALl the french toast was soggy, and the Apple crisp french toast was anything but. Soggy french toast, with slimy overly sweet apple goop on top. The omelettes were good, fresh ingredients, but very few places screw up eggs. The coffee was decent, the waitress very friendly. Out of left field we find this place. Great breakfast and do yourself a favor, be adventurous. The melting pots are great and a lot of food. Bottom line: The portions are (too) big, the quality of the food is mediocre and the setting is not very special. For example: I wish an omelette would not just be an egg surrounding vegetables but rather vegetables mixed into a fluffy egg. In my previous review I made a mistake and I did not acknowledge the variety of pancakes the place offers. We indeed had apple pancakes. I did not like them, but I don't think that was because they were not good, but rather just not to my liking. Sorry for the confusion. read more

Since we were out and about today we figured we'd stop in to Ruggie's since it's been on our list of places to try for a while now. My husband loved it, mostly because it was cheap. I thought the food was just ok. The scrambled eggs were more like a slab of fried eggs, overcooked and browned. The bacon was thin and crispy but the rye toast had a weak flavor and was dripping with "butter(???)." the home fries were nice large chunks of red-skinned potatoes but they were spicy. I wasn't prepared for that and would have preferred if they had been labeled as so. I prefer to season my own food and the peppery taste was so heavy it had me coughing (and I like spicy food!). Over all it seemed like a nice place with good service and excellent prices. I'd go back but when I do I will order my scrambled eggs light and fluffy! read more

Chose Ruggie's after reading the Yelp reviews...loved it! Perfect place for lunch after leaving for the Cape at 5:00 a.m. to beat the traffic and arriving bleary-eyed and hungry. Our meals came out quickly and were delicious. Great food, great price, and a friendly waitstaff. Not sure you can go wrong here...but my father raved about his lean pastrami sandwich. Looks like breakfast here would be a solid choice too. read more

My daughter and I walked into Ruggie's at 2:00 p.m. on a Monday afternoon, not realizing that it was closing time. We were promptly informed that we could order cold sandwiches to go only. That's exactly what we came for, so I wasn't particularly bothered by the request but, given the number of people still seated inside the joint, would have liked the option of ordering hot sandwiches as well. (No stars deducted, just an observation worth noting.) My daughter ordered a simple turkey sandwich with cheese and lettuce on white bread and I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, which was served with apple slices and pepper jack cheese on toasted wheat bread and a side of cole slaw. The sandwiches were fresh and generously portioned. Delicious!! The cole slaw was very good, too. A bit pricey, but I would definitely go back and I would recommend this lunch spot to others visiting the area. read more

Owner said he couldn't switch us to a different table as he had other people waiting. Warm, humid, summer morning and no air conditioning. The owner said he had a fan aimed at us, from 20 feet away. Our waitress was nice and fun but the hag that brought us our food was rude. It was hot so we asked for a round of waters and ice tea, one iced tea showed up, nothing else. All in all, its good for a single person or a couple, but we were a foursome of myself, wife and parents and it was not a place I will return.
