Definitely try the home fries and don't put any salt and pepper on them until you taste them because I don't know what spices they use but they're awesome! And they make real corned beef hash. She is always so pleasant and efficient, even though she seems to have the majority of the tables in the place!! It doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside it's nice. Nothing too fancy. When we we went their last year it was fantastic food wise and the quality. This year though it was a different story. Definitely did not taste nearly as good. I'd say it was just average. The eggs and potatoes that came with it were like baby size for some reason despite ordering an extra egg. My wife said her Belgian waffle tasted so so this time around hence why we did not return again this trip. Maybe next year we'll give it another try. read more

We stopped in this local diner for breakfast on a Thursday. When we entered, the server told us with a gruff voice to sit wherever. The interior is a little old but it adds to the charm. There is a wall of scant photographs of people who have conquered the Duke challenge which requires eating an insane and copious amount of breakfast dishes in under 30 minutes. Since I was there to actually enjoy my experience and because as a pregnant lady, the last thing I wanted to add to the discomfort was a good baby, I opted out. I ordered the "no name" omelette: three eggs, sausage, onions, and Swiss. It was really good. The hash browns were dusted in some type of Cajun spice and were tasty. My husband ordered one of the breakfast casseroles, the German inspired one. It had potatoes, bratwurst, eggs, and cheese. It was pretty good. The buttermilk pancakes are cinnamony and tasted just like the ones i make at home, so good! The strawberries I asked for on the side we're fresh and flavorful. I'm so glad that the breakfast goes all day so I can satisfy my breakfast cravings any time of the day. There's so many appetizing options of breakfast and lunch to choose from which I will definitely be trying out next time I visit. My wife and I ate breakfast here today. We really enjoyed our Sampler omelets which we got with biscuits. The omelets were perfectly cooked including the quality tomatoes and broccoli fillings. My wife gave the coffee a big thumbs up and I also liked the iced tea. Seems like a little thing but if the breakfast drink is subpar it can really detract from a meal. It also is a great indicator of attention to detail, which Ruggie's sure does! Service was also very good and wait time was nonexistent but this was a late October Saturday. Why not 5 stars? Those are saved for places with both great food and space and furnishings. The food is definitely 5 stars, the space and furnishings are just not at the same level. Cool little restaurant in the Cape that reminds me of a throwback. Stick to the basics and you'll give yourself a good experience. Watch out for the curbside parking though. On a recent visit, I ordered a Caribbean waffle, which featured warm pineapple and mango with shredded coconut and a "citrus reduction." It was fantastic-- very fresh, and easily one of the best breakfasts out I've had in a long time. Ruggie's dining room is sunny and cheerful, and the service was very friendly. After the owner of Ruggie's viewed my last comment, and viciously reached out to me. (As seen my attached photo) I took it upon myself to see if the service mentioned in my last post was a one off situation. Not so shockingly, I found out that this is the new standard for their establishment. As it was proved to me this past weekend. BEWARE!! We came in for lunch the other day upon a suggestion from one of my wife's colleges. This is an small old fashioned diner in an old building. Very quaint both outside and in. The service was good here. For lunch I had the pastrami turkey melt with fries. The sandwich was on the thin side and not much to it but tasty. The fries are homemade and were pretty good. My wife had the hot Malibu chicken sandwich. She said it was very good. And had plenty to it. The iced tea is fresh brewed here. Customer beware: I ordered a Breakfast Combo ($6.25) and asked the waitress if I can substitute the home fries for just a toast. She said sure and took my order. Little did I know that she made it individual side orders that charged to a total of $8.50. She could just said that they strictly don't do substitutions. Their home fries cost $2.95 and you would think that if you want to substitute a toast which is only $2 for a home fries that it should not be an issue. But instead, they charged more for a simple substitution. Never coming back nor recommending this place for nickeling and diming customers for simple requests. Worst, the potato is so cheap at this place that the owner would not want to substitute it with 2 slices of bread without a big price. NEVER GO TO A MEDIOCRE FOOD PLACE that charges an arm and leg. The owner is no prize either. Tourists would be better served to go elsewhere. No need to support a business like this! read more
