My daughter broke down on the side of the road, and AAA recommended and towed her to this shop. I live in the Los Angeles area, and she called to ley me know what had happened, by the symptoms she described I was quite sure she had blown her motor. I called the shop for the estimate and to let them know that I would be handling to payment. They were looking at it and would get back to me. I called at the end of the day and they were still going through it. A day and a half later, I finally got my estimate. Outrageous! I told them I was pulling the car out of there shop! Originally, the quote for the estimate was $110.00 but they released it for $55. I made a few calls here in LA and found a "REPUTABLE" shop to do the same job at a fraction of the cost! I rented a trailer headed north to pick up the car. When I got there I popped the hood and had a look. I am no mechanic, but within about 15 seconds I was able to see that the distributor was popped out of the case and that the metal around it was totally busted up rendering the case useless. A day and a half going through the motor? BS! I paid them $55 to literally take a look under the hood. When it is all said and done, even renting a trailer to and from, fuel to and from, I still saved just over $2000, yes, two thousand dollars, by picking up the car and bringing it to LA. Maybe thay thought they could take advantage of an 18 yaer old girl. That wasn't happening to my daughter. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE! My husband and I took our truck here recently. They had it for 3 WEEKS! I have no problem that the problem was tricky, my HUGE issue is that they didn't call us for updates. We had to STALK them to get any information. You would think after having someone's vehicle for a long period of time, customer service would kick in and think, maybe we should call them and give them an update. There is no loaner car that they offered either. After they thought they diagnosed the problem ($1500 later) and it was wrong we were still in limbo. Then the more I asked around, the more negative reviews I got about this place. I was very disappointed. I had seen their ad's on TV and read about them in the Newspaper, but I am thinking they just have friends vote for them. I had my car in for a light and brake inspection. They told me the brake past but the lights didn't and They will fix it for me for 250 So I don't have to pay another fee for the light inspection. I said okay and then they started the work. It took two hours for them to tell me that it's missing a clip on the light. They didn't have the clip there and they did not do the work and still charge me the 250. Ryan's is a big ripoff "Don't go there". read more

I had pretty much a 5 star experience here. I first learned of the shop through a business circular and the coupon offered for the "Summer Special." This was for an oil & coolant system fluids change on an older secondary vehicle I'm using as a daily driver. Got to meet the owner Ryan, a nice fellow and one of his aides who checked me in. Clean, environmental-friendly shop and waiting area. Without any appointment, they had me in & out of there in a promised time of 90min. or less. While competitively priced, you'll probably pay slightly more here for service. But rest assured your car is getting the careful attention of a certified mechanic, not some backyard hobbyist. Shop's been faithfully serving the Fairfield community since the 1950's with an interesting history. Give 'em a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

I called Ryan's for a engine diagnostic estimate and appointment. Was told that the charge would be $165.00 regardless of how long it took them to figure out what was wrong. This figure would be in addition to the charges for any actual repair performed. I couldn't make it that day. Called back the next day and repeated my purpose. Was told that the $165.00 was for "a block of diagnostic" not diagonistic time, just "diagnostic", what ever that is. I know this because I asked specifically if there were an hourly charge and was told, no. I then reasked my question wrt their diagnostic charge plicy. In the end, it came out something like this: - there is no hourly charge. - if the $165.00 diagnostic discovers that there might be an 'electrical' problem, there is an ADDITIONAL $220.00, bringing their original "$165.00 diagnosis, no matter how long it takes" charge, to $385.00 and THERE IS NO MAXIMUM. I asked the guy, so what you are really telling me is that my $165.00 diagnostic could in fact cost somewhere between $165.00 and $800.00 just as a reasonable potential range. The guy agreed that that was possible. Needless to say, I did not go to Ryan's Automotive. Went to another garage in town that charges $145.00 MAXIMUM regardless of the time that it might take. They figured it out and fixed the vehicle same day. Not a cheal repair, but an honest one. Total, including the diagnostic $400.00. And from what I have seen in here, at Ryan's it would, in all liklihood, have cost much more. And Ryan's is an approved AAA repair facility. Gouging the motoring public would be a fair assessment. My original issue was the parking brake on my 2002 GMC. It went to the floor, so that is what I told the guy managing.the place. 7 plus hrs and $618 later, they said the brake job was done. Work order says they turned drums. they didnt....they put the old worn out ones back on, The parking brake went to the floor when I left. I went to another shop where they replaced the worn out rotors, and now the brakes work as they should. Ryan offered a $50. discount towards his shoddy workmanship, as the best he could do. Since it cost me $200 to finish the job Ryans could not, I will never be back to RYANS. Their "guaranteed work" slogan is empty.and meaningless. read more

Have brought both my car & truck to Ryan's Auto for the past two years, and I have NEVER had any problem with either the employees or service. Prices are very fair, they honor AAA, they always communicate promptly if any other problems or delays occur & have always had my vehicles ready when promised. I have read other poster's reviews, and I am not able personally to substantiate any of the negativity. Ray and the other employees have always been very upfront and honest with all quotes and timelines. The front office has always been neat and tidy. Is it a model showroom... no, but what auto shop is? I've lived in 10 states, and Ryan's is right up there on top of shops I will continue to do business with. read more

This shop is very sad. The owners have proven they don't care and the workers are just as nonchalant. Let's start with transmission flush for 120 dollars where my fluid stayed brown rather than red. I found this by going to Honda dealership in Vacaville. I learned my lesson. If they do this for fluids what else could do. read more

I go there on a consistent basis regarding up keep on my vehicle due to its the family car and my only car. I always get great customer service from each technician working on my car to ray at the desk. I feel that everyone is honest and doesn't over sell me on things to just make more money on things I don't need. BE AWARE..at drop off for a Brake/Light inspection, I asked Ray at Ryan's Automotive in Fairfield, what would happen if it fails because a different shop Deans Automotive allow customers to return within two weeks for another chance without additional cost? Ray acted as if he had never heard of the Dean shop. Around 2 hr later, he called me & stated that my inspection had failed due to the top brake light & they could fix it for $70.00 in addition to another $137 totaling $344... WOW! When I reminded Ray of my question prior at drop off, he said call Dean & heard the guy vouch for the no additional cost if car fails. Ray had nothing else to say & started mentioning his medical coverage which was irrelevant. I immediately drove 2 min away & the bulb was replaced by Auto Zone for $8.00 who had nothing good to say about Ryan's shop. No honesty. What happened at Ryan's Automotive is gouging & bad business practice for consumers. Also, Ryan never returned my call as the owner. Now, I am going to contact DMV to see exactly what my $137.00, covered & just wanted to warn the community of such bad practices in our community. read more

Total scammers!!!! Took my husband's car here last Monday because we were told this was the only place between here and Sacramento that does brake & lamp inspections. First of all, this was the 2nd brake & lamp inspection we had done within 2 months, the first being done in Sacramento, where we purchased the car from a private party. The first inspection everything passed except for the reverse lights, which we took to a shop in Vacaville to repair. Took the vehicle to DMV, who stated we needed to have the repairs signed off on. This would require a NEW brake & lamp inspection to be done. Took it in expecting to pay the $125 quoted only to be told that it failed and a whole list of things were wrong with it!! We either pay them to do the repairs & then don't have to pay for a second inspection fee (which is really the third) or the minute we drive it off their lot, the fee would be charged again for another inspection when we came back. We explained that the car has been sitting since the first inspection because we kept running into issues with DMV. HOW DID THE BRAKE PADS and lights go bad WHEN WE HADN'T BEEN USING THE VEHICLE?!?!?! Needless to say we were stuck between a rock and a hard place so we paid the $493 to get it fixed. Drove it home and that's where it sat until today, which is 6 days later. Had to use it to get to work today and when I get to work, the car wouldn't start!!! NO POWER, NO NOTHING!! Pop the hood, a maintenance guy came to take a look and found the lights that they supposedly fixed are now not attached properly, the seal is broken and the battery terminals were not screwed on at all!!! $493 to get our car back messed up!!!! And said if I went to fix it on my own it would void out the test I just paid for and would have to pay again wif I came back. Was gonna get the brake inspection but he gave me trouble in that area as well. Can you say Scammers!!! if you are in need of automotive repairs dont go there. I Took my car in because it would not pass smog. I found them on the BAR list thinking they would be somewhat on the up and up well like most shops before you knew it. It started at 350.00 they broke the screw for the catalytic converter said we would be responsible but not sure if they could fix that problem. Well after having the car for 3 weeks i still don't pass smog one new catalytic converter, possibly a new sensor if i believe them still needing another converter and out of 2200 can you say rip off I've learned my lesson hope i can help somebody before you make my mistake. But keep in mind they start low and call for more money well of course now they have your car. Buyer beware. And one star only because I had to rate it should be a thumbs down. read more

I called twice this morning in regards to a break and light inspection for a Salvaged Truck I bought..... the representative answered the phone and states that they Do not offer certifications on vehicles over 10,000 GVWR and gives me a couple of referrals (Rio Vista and Stockton), I do my research and went back to the DMV and they made an exception because as per the DMV : When a California state-licensed brake/light inspection station that inspects specific vehicles, such as motorcycles or large commercial vehicles, is not located within a reasonable distance, DMV will accept a (REG 256) from a California state-licensed repair shop certifying that the brakes/lights are in proper working order...... They refer me back to Ryan's automotive....so I call back to explain to see if they could do a visual and write a statement on the REG 262 but.....surprise! when I started to explain Ray (the same person I had talked to earlier) he was a complete butt! he cuts me off and says" I already told you I can't look at your truck because it exceeds guidelines!..... he did not allow me to finish explaining the reason for my call back!......... I am new to all this so I expected to find professional help from people who are willing to help and answer all of your questions but I guess I was wrong!...... If you don't offer they service I look for fine! I get it but please be professional and be kind to people because if you care about your business and care about WORD OF MOUTH you should always remain professional and not be a complete butt! read more

I took my car in for over heating they first told me the fans were not working and that we need a new fan control and that would fix it. I drove from Fairfield to Dixon and it over heated, I came back and they told me oh its now your thermostat, after paying that I drove again this time to Davis and it over heated again. After my return to them again because they did not fix the problem I drove in their parking lot and could not put into park. After more then 1300. Dollars later my problem was not fived and now my car will not go into park after they worked on it. they look at it took another test and told me I have a blown head gasket. so now I have a car that wont go into park and they tell me I now have a blown head gasket. I talked to the owner Ryan and I told him give me back my money and fixe the parking problem that happened with them working on it and he told me nope we will only give you back the labor cost of the thermostat they miss charged if they get to do the work of fixing the blown head gasket; My advise to all people is to never ever take your car to Ryans automotive they are obvious crooks that are their to give you miss information charge you lots of money before they will give your key back and may The Lord Jesus judge them for their Lack of integrity and cheating people and braking your car then telling you it wasn"t their problem. be careful if you take your car in for a light and break inspection, these folks wont tell you the obvious, like if your tires are mismatched the car wont pass the test, or if the thread on the tire is low it wont pass the test. I also question their integrity for I went in with all lights working and when they inspected it I was told that the third light was out, I found it odd since it was working before. They quoted me $ 110.00 to run a diagnosis and find the problem. I said no went home and inspected the light myself and someone had disconnected the plug from the trunk. Take it elsewhere if you can, there is other places in Fairfield, don't get ripped off. read more

DON'T GO TO RYAN'S. I called for a DMV certified Brake & Light Inspection-Sure they do it! $75.00+ per inspection. I made an appointment, dropped the vehicle off at the end of the day -- left it overnight -- for first morning appointment. Aaron assured us it would be completed by the time we needed it for the DMV appt. No calls to us. We called him, he LIED to us several times. He said the wheels were off, the inspection was being performed -- NOT. He would call us back in 10 minutes. HE DIDN'T. The next call he said it should be done soon. NO CALL BACK. Then we were told the mechanic was sick and came in late -- but it would be done and the light inspection was completed, just finishing the brake inspection. NO CALL. The next thing -- we called and the mechanic was out to lunch after having worked 1.5 hours. Aaron just kept lying to us. I said we would pick up the car at 1:40, to have the wheels back on by then. We got there and Aaron with an attitude handed us the keys. I said, we'll pay for the light inspection and he said no charge -- it wasn't completed,m nor was it ever started. They never set foot in our car -- two 20-mile round trips and not to mention waiting the 5 hours and 40 minutes for nothing. My husband took an entire vacation day to take care of this, and not to mention we couldn't make the DMV appt. w/o the inspections. I will not only not go back, but if I don't hear from the owner Ryan, then I will continue to let people know how bad this place is. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Brake and light inspections are difficult to find, but there's a great one in Woodland, another one opening up soon and several in the Bay Area. Just be persistent until you find a place. Oh and did I mention Ryan's charges $55.00 more than any other place? Well, Aaron -- good luck to you in your career -- I bet Ryan doesn't even know how bad his PR is for his own business. read more

I needed a Brake and Light inspection for the DMV. Ryan's is the only authorized facility for miles! There policy was explained to me that if they found something wrong and THEY fixed it, the reinspection would be no charge but, if I had the repairs done by anyone else including myself that they would charge me a complete new inspection fee. I understood this policy and accepted it. I took my car there and it passed the brake inspection but failed the light inspection due to a license plate light bulb being out. When they called me to tell me, I asked if they could just take care of it. They said yes and the car would be ready to be picked up any time. The brake and light inspection cost $63.60 each for a total of $127.20. When I picked the car up, the total was $182.16 for a difference of $54.96!!! For a $3 light bulb!!! We took my 2008 Dodge to Ryan's at the suggestion of a tow truck driver. We had a charge light on and the charge just to find out what was wrong with the car was $55. Turns out that it was the altanator, and $700 later the check engine light came on. They told me it would be another $165 just to find out why the charge engine light was on, which is extreemly high. I declined further diagnostic by them and will take my car elsewhere for further diagnostic. I would not recommend this repair shop to anyone and have reported them to AAA. read more

My car was towed there by AAA. I was charged $165 to diagnose the problem. The radiator had a visible tear in it and the water was gone. They opened the hood and saw the tear and said it would cost $605 for a new radiator. I checked two other places and both were under $300 for the same job. Ryan's also said if it had a blown head gasket it would cost $2800. I called my mechanic in Seaside and they said it would cost $1200. I had the car towed to the radiator shop 5 blocks down the street. If you are rich go to Ryan's otherwise forget it. They are a rip off. I complained to AAA but they said they could do nothing about overcharging. read more

I went in to Ryan's automitive to get a smog check...I had gone there before for other maintenance and was satisfied with their work, but this time I was not pleased at all. First off, I called to ask about smog checks, wether I should make an appointment or just walk in. The lady was polit and said, "no, just walk in!" so I went in about 20 minutes later. When I showed up, I walked in and saw an old ass gray haired lady and said..."Hi, how you doin?" she just looked at me with this blank stare of disgust for some reason...probably because she knew she was old as fuck and I was a lot more youthful than her and she hates younger people than her. She greeted me in no way whatsoever. So I told them I needed a smog check and then the old lady gave me an even dirtier look and let out a tremendous disappointing sigh. She then asked me if I could drop my truck off because they only had 2 technicians that could do smog checks. I said no and told them I would go somewhere else. I drove down the street about 3 blocks, got the best customer service I've ever had at an automitive shop and was in and out in 30 minutes! DONT GO TO RYAN'S! read more

Decided to try this local service station to replace a faulty fuel pump after reading their review in the best of Fairfield column of the newspaper. Beware of this place. They should be listed in the worst of Fairfield. I was uncomfortable with this place right from the beginning. At first they told me that I should put a factory ford fuel pump and filter on my secondary car that I told them I almost never drive. The guy said that the aftermarket fuel pumps are way to noisy and just don't hold up. Not true as I confirmed with my out of town mechanic who actually won best of Pleasanton service station for a reason. Ryan's charges too much per hour for a Fairfield location station. More expensive than Pleasanton which has much higher rents. They also mark up their parts incredibly high. My regular mechanic could not believe just how high they charged. We were both shocked. Needless to say I got my car out of there as quickly as possible and towed it to my regular mechanic in Pleasanton with my AAA plus and was charged about half of what Ryan's wanted. I only wish I didn't get stuck paying them the $165 diagnostic. This place is a total RIPOFF! read more
