Ate there on a Sunday. Had the eggs on a baguette, which was delicious, and eggs on a bagel, two pastries and two small iced teas. Pretty sure I got charged extra for avocado, which comes on the bagel sandwich, but the young girl didn't know that apparently. Bill was over $50.00, and yet they said for one tea refill, I would have to pay $4.50 more. Seems kind of short sighted to me, considering the cost of an iced tea and the total bill. read more

We love this place. It's a great slow paced treat on the weekend with the kids. They always surprise us with their own choices; sometimes is a chocolate chip cookie the size of your head, sometimes it's a butter croissant, sometimes a single thumbprint cookie. It's all fine by me, as I sip my coffee and wait for my most delicious breakfast bagel sandwich that I could never replicate at home. I stopped by on a Saturday morning and there was just one couple waiting ahead of me. It was my first time at this location and I wasn't sure which door to use, but I guess I could have used any of them. Multiple employees offered to assist me while another was restocking bread on the shelves. I ordered two pastries and like others, was somewhat shocked by the prices. That said, I enjoyed the pastries and they were definitely a step (or two) up from what I typically get at Starbucks. The only bummer is that their limited hours mean I can never stop by before work to enjoy something on a weekday. With their prices, maybe they are trying to cater to the "doesn't need to work" or "sets their own hours" crowd. read more

Update again 12/14/23: Went back again to get the scone. While I was there, was checking out the menu and it said Oatmeal for $6. I like oatmeal, so I decided to get it. Total was $22. I was confused, asked why as the scone yesterday was $6, and oatmeal is listed for $6. They said that the oatmeal is $14 and its a bowl and the $6 one is a cup but they dont have that size anymore. Decided to still try. The oatmeal was regular flat oats (not steel cut or anything), had chia seeds, apple compote, and toasted almonds. It was not bad, but a more appropriate and palatable price would be no more than $10. I also realized that this place is only for people with unlimited means. I appreciate quality food and shop at places like Whole Foods etc. I feel like Whole Foods and other higher end food places are at least upfront about their pricing. I'm tired of feeling sucker punched at the cash wrap. 12/13/23: Went back today for the first time in 8 months ever since i was blindsided by their mandatory 12% employee benefit charge. I was curious about their seasonal items so i stopped in, after preparing myself mentally for that charge. Got their seasonal scone which was gingerbread and a morning sugar latte. Total was just shy of $12 and i remember thinking to myself it wasnt bad. Checked my receipt and that mandatory charge is finally gone. The drink was tasty, albeit super small, it's like a kid size drink but thats how it also was the last time i was there. The scone was delicious. Now that the surcharge is gone, I'll be back alot more frequently, probably even tomorrow for another scone. read more

Extremely slow service. Sign outside said coffee and wine and after starting to order they informed us only the Newport location served wine. We ordered a soup and salad and it took so long that we left without the food. Ambience felt like a warehouse library. read more

Went in yesterday to buy a cake or pie for a friend that just got home from hospital. Only had 1 pie in display case and 0 cakes. Young guy waiting on me was very friendly and nice and he rang me up for the Berry pie with a crumb crust . Bam ! $59.72 "Wow $59 for a pie ! That must be some pie ?" I said and he replied " Yeah, it's very good. " Bottom line : It was a good pie but not any better than one I had in Julian for $23 and only slightly better than Marie Callender's at $19 . Anyway great quality but SUPER EXPENSIVE ! Bring your AMEX Black card ! It would be helpful if they posted pricing on items in display case. read more

A very unique bakery at the back of an industrial building at Red Hill/Ball. Terrific bread, enticing pastries (love the morning buns), a small number of deli sandwiches on fresh bagels and bread, and outstanding espresso drinks (the Americano puts Starbucks to shame). Take your coffee and pastry into the cavernous sitting area that is nevertheless very inviting - an eclectic mix of sitting options set amongst large indoor plants. Later in the morning, a large retractable door elevates leading to a large outdoor sitting area. Relax and watch the airplanes on approach to OC Airport or sit inside and listen to a terrific oldies soundtrack that originates in the bakery's kitchen and plays in the background. I have been a fan since Rye Goods started in a garage in Tustin. Some have complained that it is expensive, but understand this is an artisan bakery with highly unique offerings and outstanding espresso drinks. It is just the kind of local business that we should support. And that 12% employee charge - most people leave a tip at coffee shops anyway and this helps to supplement the typically low wages of baristas and bakers. read more

The employee was nice. They are over priced, and over charged. I got 2 bagels, which is $6 each and the bagel sandwich which is $14. If you did the math the total should be $26, but instead they decide to charge me $34. I should of asked for the receipt, they didn't offer for obviously reason. The food was mediocre. So if you want to pay for over price food, then pay for a mystery charge for just ok food then this is the place for you! read more

Owner and bakers cant take any critisizem about burned bakery items. Extreamly over priced. Also these organic cresh stuff still causes cancer by the highest carbs which turn to sugar. Sugar grows cancer. You are paying more for same unhealthy results in your health. Like gaining weight would be worse with the high calories and high carbs. I told owner years ago from her burnt bread and she never responded just blocked me on instagram. read more

Such a fun place! It's tucked away, but a great find. The selection of baked good is fabulous. My friend and I purchased three and shared them all so we could give them a try. I was impressed with the quality of their work and the ingredients used. On the way out I purchased tomato soup, and frozen molasses cookies to bake at home. The cookies were a huge hit! The tomato soup was also very good. We enjoyed the large gathering area and didn't feel rushed. It's a great place to pick up items for home or work, to eat and gather, or eat and get some work done. read more

If you are looking for a better than average bakery this is a great place. Tucked away, with a too small sign in an industrial park, so keep your eyes open. Coffee was very decent, got a piece of coffee cake, very delish and a morning bun which was tasty. Don't come here for breakfast, especially during the week. The bagel sandwiches are not offered during the week. Really? You cant get eggs during the week? C'mon your a bakery. Ended up getting a piece of quiche, it was meh. The serving was small and the price was large. We had to have it reheated again as it was cold and looked crusty on the sides. It was not a fluffy quiche, and we would not order it again. I hope that management reads this review as it is meant to be constructive , and I would like to be able to come here for breakfast. read more

Dog friendly! The service is great but felt a bit understaffed. The place looks amazing and they had a good unique selection of food.

The sneaky 12% surcharge is a turn off. The bread is high quality and merits a premium price, but that full price should be clearly displayed. Instead, an extra 12% slyly shows up at checkout on the cash register as 'Employee Benefit'. And you will miss it if you are not paying attention. Why not display the price of the goods on the shelf that ensure fair pay for employees? Or at least post the policy somewhere before the customer is engaged in the checkout process. Great sourdough bread, however the loaf I bought today was burned black on top. I usually buy my bread from Rye Goods in Newport Beach and have never had a problem except with the Danish Rye that was so hard you needed a saw to cut it. My biggest beef is with the Employee Benefits Surcharge. The loaf I used to buy cost $10 total. That went up to $13 for my last loaf. Today the same bread cost $13.44??? This Employee Benefits thing needs to be posted out front. Although your bread is quite good I will not be returning here anytime soon. read more

Like other mentioned, pricing is just crazy. I've been to great bakeries from SF to LA to OC and this is up there in terms of quality and dedication to craft but prices make no sense compared to other bakeries with similar goods. They need to do a better job of posting the cost up front and noting the 12% service charge (note, there is no service, you just pay at the counter). Not sure if they are trying to re-coup there costs on design/retail space and then hopefully level out. Try Tartine in LA. read more

Was not impressed with the bread overall...texture aside from the crust was not great...overall flavor not great. As a niche bread place I can see it being popular but not for me. Ambiance was good however...service not great as the "chef" was on a break and he was the only one who could prepare soup...this was around 11am...so a bit on the early side for lunch, but still...several people were there just not able to scoop and make the soup I guess...YMMV read more

Never had a pastry from them I didn't love and decent coffee. Pricy but fresh and delicious. Perfect for something special/different.

Great service and a comfortable place for a casual meeting. I prefer the morning bun to the almond croissant, and the coffee is good.

My cousin recently discovered this place and I'm so glad he did! We have an appreciation for sourdough and enjoy the quality and deliciousness of their breads and pastries. Sure it's a little pricey, but what isn't these days? You are paying for quality ingredients that these artisans craft to make something delicious. read more
