    Poke nachos

Worth every penny! Service can be better but the food makes up for it ;) I got the poke nachos and my mind was blown! Definitely shareable!

Poke here is legit and reminds me of authentic Hawaiian poke. On a Friday lunch, there was a line of 10 people out the door, but it moved pretty quickly. We had a large salmon poke bowl, which was large enough to share. Seating inside only seats ~20 people and largely 2-person tables. Parking lot in front is small, but they have a larger parking lot in the back.

I get the hype. I got to Ry's right when they opened and I was third in line. Line grew quick though. Ordered the poke nachos and they were able to separate the chips from the poke. When I got home though, I honestly couldn't differentiate the spicy hawaiian from the california. May just be me but they kind of tasted the same. Next time, will try with rice.

Famous poke vibes, but doesn't deliver. Went for an early weekend dinner. Was a bit of a line, as expected. Ordered 2 types of fish and flavors, along with the crab. Took about 15 min to make. Theres not too seats inside, so ate near the beach. The poke itself wasn't bad, but wasn't amazing either. The crab was the best part of the meal. The reason why two stars were given was the rice - it was overly dry... almost crunchy. Not sure if that's their style, but not my vibe. Was hoping to be brought back to the islands with the poke, but I might still have to fly back in person for quality poke.

It's nice to have a branch of a Hawaiian poke shop here in the mainland. Everything looks and tastes just like how you'd have it in Hawaii. I liked how customizable everything was including the types of sauces. There was also tons of Hawaiian Sun drinks and more as drinks for you to grab. I took it to go and unlike the usual bready nachos, these were made out of deep fried wonton skins. Which gave it an airy and arguably less oily bite than something like Mexican tortilla chips. The one downside is how far away it is located from the usual Old Town Pasadena area. It's actually in East Pasadena and pretty close to where Pasadena becomes Arcadia. But if you make it a little errand trip by bundling it with places like the Home Depot and Target, I can see this place being just a takeout only. There were seats inside if you wanted to dine there of course.

Tsunami Poke Nachos with Firecracker Salmon

Ry's Poke Shack serves undeniably fresh fish with some incredibly flavorful marinades, but the overall experience fell short due to the disappointing portions and execution. While the quality of the poke itself was impressive, the tiny servings of fish compared to the amount of rice made the bowls feel like a poor value, especially considering the price. We spent nearly $80 on two bowls and an order of poke nachos, yet left underwhelmed by the amount of fish we received. The rice was also noticeably overcooked and mushy, taking away from the texture of every bite. Service was average, and despite ordering relatively simple poke dishes, our food took 30-45 minutes to arrive. **Mayjah Bowl (Spicy Shoyu Salmon & Lao Style Ahi): 3.5/5** The Spicy Shoyu Salmon was the standout of the bowl, as the sauce delivered a bold umami flavor with a fiery punch that played beautifully against the buttery salmon, while the bright, tangy pickled cucumber salad provided a refreshing contrast that balanced the richness of both proteins. The Lao Style Ahi featured garlic, fish sauce, and Thai chili peppers, creating a deeply savory marinade with a pleasant kick, though the flavor profile didn't quite feel like a natural fit for poke. Despite that, the ahi itself was incredibly fresh, with a clean, silky texture that really showcased the quality of the fish. Unfortunately, the bowl was overwhelmingly rice-heavy, and the small portion of fish made the price difficult to justify. The gummy rice only added to the disappointment. **Mayjah Bowl (California Salmon & Spicy Hawaiian Ahi): 3/5** The California Salmon captured all the flavors of a deconstructed California roll, with the creamy avocado and crab salad complementing the melt-in-your-mouth salmon beautifully. Unfortunately, the Spicy Hawaiian Ahi was the weaker of the two proteins. It wasn't particularly spicy and contained far too much limu, giving it an overpowering oceanic, briny flavor that masked the ahi's naturally delicate taste. Like the first bowl, the fish portion was surprisingly small, and the overcooked rice significantly detracted from the overall experience. **Tsunami Poke Nachos with Firecracker Salmon: 3.5/5** The toppings themselves were delicious, but the proportions were once again the biggest issue. There were far too many wonton chips and only a single small scoop of poke, leaving most of the chips bare. The rich, creamy Firecracker Salmon paired beautifully with the crab salad, while the drizzle of unagi sauce tied everything together with a touch of sweetness. Although the wonton chips were crispy, they left behind a lingering oily aftertaste that prevented the dish from reaching its full potential. A more generous portion of poke and toppings would have transformed this into a much more balanced and satisfying dish. The quality and freshness of the fish are undeniable, and several of the marinades were genuinely excellent. However, after spending nearly $80, the consistently tiny portions, mushy rice, and lengthy wait made it difficult to justify the cost. With more generous portions and properly cooked rice, Ry's Poke Shack would be much easier to recommend.

Place was packed around 630-7pm. Mostly of people waiting to pick up their food. Got the tsunami nachos with ponzu crunch. It was good at first but the salmon had too much sauce. There wasnt that much fish but i did like the crab salad. The gingcurri sauce tasted like hainan chicken's ginger sauce. Not sure how i feel about that one. But yes i feel like poke here is sauce dependent. The sauces werent labeled so couldnt tell what they were. I didnt want to waste plastic cups to try them either. Parking in front of the store is small but theres a parking lot in the back as well.

One of my favorite things to do in Hawaii is check out poke spots, so I was thrilled when Ry's opened in Pasadena. No need to book a ticket to the islands to satisfy my poke cravings. 4 stars!!!! I've been to Ry's a couple of times now, and I'll definitely be back for the Lao Style and the Gingahchurri--my top two so far! I've also tried the Shoyu, Limu, Ponzu Crunch, and Spicy Hawaiian, but the Lao Style and Gingahchurri are by far the most flavorful. You can choose between tuna and salmon, but this comes down to personal preference. Either fish, expect the fish to be super fresh and delicious! Looking forward to trying out more flavors in my future visits. Why only four stars? My first visit was disappointingly underwhelming. The Shoyu seemed underseasoned, while the Spicy Hawaiian was a bit too rich and creamy for my taste. I never write a Yelp review after just one visit, so I'm glad I came back and got to try the Lao Style and Gingahchurri! I've also tried the Tsunami Nachos, and I'm not a big fan of the fried wonton chips since they were a little too oily. Tortilla chips might work better. Finally, the rice in the poke bowls could definitely be improved. If you're lucky, you'll catch the owner, Ryan, at the shop. He's incredibly nice and hospitable! On my second visit, he actually listened to all of my feedback from my first experience, which I really appreciated. Seating is limited and you might have to wait a bit for a table to open up. Parking can also be challenging in the strip mall parking lot, and looking for free street parking might be the better choice. Just make sure to read the parking restrictions since the city of Pasadena is notorious for giving out parking citations!

Not bad but not something I would wait over 30 minutes for. I ordered the tsunami nachos and 2 of their bowls with different kinds of poke. I will say that my favourite combo was the ahi tuna firecracker on the nachos. overall, i'd rate the food a 7.5/10.

Lunch in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California... Ry's Poke Shack has opened yet another location! The original location is in Kahuku, O'ahu, Hawai'i... it's "far away"... on the North Shore of the island. I went there to try the Famous Tsunami Nachos... it's good! I have also been to the newest location near Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. I liked it more than the Kahuku one, because there's a small area for indoor dining. Kahuku only had outdoor dining... uhg! Not my favorite... This Pasadena location has a bigger indoor dining area. Thank you! I appreciate the air-conditioning! And... I liked looking at all of the awards and framed newspaper articles on the wall. Ry's has come a long way and has accomplished much! Good job! Anyway... I went early (before opening time of 11:30am) to park in the cozy, free, shared parking lot. Who did I see walking by? My good friend, Jun!!! OMG... what a coincidence! What timing! I'm so glad that Jun had time to help me eat the Tsunami Nachos because it's a very generous serving of the fish of your choice (we chose salmon), 2 scoops imitation crab salad, tobiko, furikake, cucumber namasu, wonton chips, unagi sauce, spicy mayo drizzle, and the style of your choice (we chose ponzu crunch). Mmm...so Ono! The only difference was the wonton chips. I think the Ala Moana location had thicker, crunchier chips. I'm quite sure. But the service was still efficient and helpful. The best part of our visit was that Ry was there! He's so personable and downtown earth! However, the highlight of my day was seeing Jun again! We've been pals for over ten years! Thanks for lunch, Jun! See you again!

The hype is real! The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and you can definitely taste the quality. There's almost always a line out the door, and orders can take a little while, but it's well worth the wait. The staff does a great job keeping things moving despite how busy they are. If you're looking for fresh, high-quality poke, this is easily one of the best poke spots around. Highly recommend!

Ponzu Crunch salmon poke bowl and California style poke nachos
    Feliza C.

Glad the lines aren't ridiculously long anymore! Space is on the smaller side but they have a few tables to enjoy your meal. The ponzu crunch salmon poke bowl was delicious and I can't stop thinking about it! Definitely good quality fish and probably the best poke bowl in the area. We also ordered california style (I think) poke nachos with tuna which was good but lacking on the fish. Though it was good, I felt it was way too saucy. For the price I don't think it was worth it but I would try them again a different style. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would return!

The tsunami nachos were so good. The chips, fresh cucumber, and poke is definitely something you can't miss. You can share the poke nachos but honestly it's a really good portion size for 1 (but you'll be really full). I tried the tsunami nachos with spicy tobiko sauce which was amazing. I'll try the hawaiian next time. The shoyu salmon is whatever. The flavor is mild so next time I'll get a different flavor. I went here at 12:30pm on a Thursday and they only had a line inside, not out the door. I got my food within 15 minutes and considering it's prime time for lunch, I'd say thats good. Overall, amazing poke for the area

Loco Moco entree: Dish was okay overall. The burger patty was dry because they formed the patty to be thicker so it doesn't really retain much of the juice or flavor. Cole slaw had more mayonnaise cream compared to other Hawaiian restaurants which was a bit bummer. Stand out regarding this dish was the veggies side, it was slightly sweet due to the miso glaze. I haven't been served glazed Hawaiian veggie dish before and it was definitely yummy. Spicy shrimp garlic lunch plate: I would say this dish is better than the loco moco in the standards to flavor. It's a must to pair with with rice because with my Asian palette it was too salty for me.

This is my third visit and every single time it delivers. This is an Indonesian/Hawaiian restaurant -- and a seriously impressive one. The menu spans both worlds, and no matter which direction you go, you're in for something special. Take out only, no tables, but trust me -- you won't care. The 4 Piece Indonesian Fried Chicken with rice is an absolute must. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The crust is insanely crispy, the seasoning is perfect, and the Indonesian dipping sauce ties it all together in a way that's completely unique. This alone is worth the drive. The Hawaiian plates are equally impressive. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the beef and chicken were perfectly marinated -- sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful. Everything comes with rice and a creamy mac salad, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks (Mango Orange and Strawberry Lilikoi) are the perfect companion to wash it all down. Plates run between $16-$20 but the portions are generous and the quality is exceptional -- you absolutely get your money's worth. The owner and cook are extraordinarily welcoming, and everything comes out hot and fresh every single time. Top Restaurant is a hidden gem of the highest order. If you're in Pasadena, make the trip.

Their selection of items is always changing so I like to look at what's new and on display. I will sometimes ask the front counter what just came in. The Fresh Deli, located up a small incline to the left as you enter the market, is spectacular. The flavor of the food permeates the entrance to the market. They have an incredible selection of fresh made food. It is difficult to make a decision between the different items. I asked for some help from the gentleman behind the counter. I've dealt with Christian, Gabriel and Abraham and all three are knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to explain how some of the food was prepared and the special attention that was given to each individual item. I wanted to limit myself to two items. I decided on the special marinated Beef Caldereta and the Lechon Kawali. On another trip I decided to try the Pork Tochino and the Barbecue Chicken Skewers. I can't tell you how happy I am with the flavors of the food from the deli. Everything was done to perfection. The Chicken skewers were tender and moist with a great barbecue flavor. The Toccino had a nice marinade flavor and was not too sweet. The Lechon was tender and had enough fat to give it a great flavor and texture. I have to admit the Caldereta was my favorite. Great taste, texture, and just the right spices to give it a little kick. The rice and noodles were a perfect accompaniment. All the sauces I was given added to the flavor of all the dishes. I found out that everybody there is related. They definitely give exceptional service and quality merchandise, and delicious food. I look forward to coming back and trying many other items both in their market area as well as the Deli.
