I almost never write or post reviews...because I'm busy eating the food or just forget to write one. But I am in heaven eating this very berry waffle with my double latte so I had to get my phone out and rave about this neighborhood cafe. The berries (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries) are super fresh and they give you a ton. The waffle is huge~and the batter is perfect; not too chewy with just the right bite to it. You also get a scoop of ice cream; with fresh cream to top it all off. The latte is also great here which you can enjoy at your leisure. Service is always on point and staff is super friendly. I just moved here from Dallas, and this place has quickly became my favorite spot for coffee in my neighborhood. Jared was so kind to me and my partner when we came our first time- although we were super indecisive and took a bit to decide- they patiently guided us through the menu, and even showed us their beautiful artwork. Absolutely disgusting excuse of a dining establishment. Why am I paying $3.95 for a bottle of gatorade in my hometown? Because Gentrified establishments like this are ruining the neighborhood I grew up in. Food was also below mediocre and the young lady working the front had a disgusting attitude. Speaking of nooks and crannies, the pannini on this sandwich is full of them, yum. But I digress. Just over to my right there is an Obama '08 placard sitting smack dab in the middle of a small grass roots fund raising Obama campaign meeting. A few volunteers are sitting with a handful of young black men who are busy filling out what I imagine are voter registration forms and volunteer applications. There is a main organizer doing a meet and greet. I just heard her say, "We are considering the Independents part of the "Democratic force" and she is giving a guy pointers on spreading the word and how to deal with different reactions from people. She is extremely enthusiastic and is wearing jeans and red leather boots. This is a happy and mellow space where mainly young to middle age suburbanites gather to lay down letters on their laptops, chill with an L.A. Times purchased at the counter, or meet up with friends to suck up excellent coffee, wipe sleep from their eyes, and plan another night of adventures. I am surrounded by Oh my god - I edited, the computer glitched and I lost half this review. No time to fix it. Did anyone copy and paste it? Yeah right? Well, I can't leave out. The Best Mexican Mocha, bla bla bla , they must use real Abuelita chocolate, floating specks of cinnamon on top of cloud-like crema. I can't believe this!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, back at home headquarters. I will try to recreate the "live experience" from this point on by culling from my selective memory. Let's go back, I can hear the whirring of the coffee grinder, the name "Obama" occasionally popping up into the air and getting tossed around the two tables next to me like a volley ball. The din of voices. AND WE"RE BACK (suspend your disbelief) I am surrounded by walls and a ceiling painted in bright but muted Easter egg tones. And did I mention this five star Mexican Mocha - dear god it's good. They don't pay me enough to be unbiased. The music penetrating the din of voices appears to be a mash up of Fela Kuti's famous 30 minute African jams combined with the Superfly soundtrack. There is the occasional South American Carnival extravaganza and now they are playing some kind of Afro/Brazilian Chant. At this very moment the grass roots leader is declaring a goal of $100,000 today. I forgot about the food. They have Turkey and Cranberry sandwiches, bagels and locs, many sandwiches and salads, all sorts of cookies, croissants, muffins, etc. and they have fro yo with sprinkles and fresh fruit toppings. I like this place. If I want to go hang out at a coffee place, this is a really chill place to do that. The service is on point and they offer a variety of dishes such as breakfast and lunch sandwiches with both meat and also vegetarian options. In addition, you can get pastries, salads, wraps and also waffles. The waffles come in a variety of flavors such as Matcha Green Tea, Chai Tea, Mexican Chocolate, Red Velvet. You can add fresh fruit and/or ice cream for an extra charge. I have yet to try a waffle and will do so very soon. I did have a breakfast sandwich with ham, egg and cheese on one of my first visits which was decent (4/5). I thought it needed a little bit more meat. They included a dipping sauce that was pretty tasty. The coffee was good too, they offer most of the traditional coffee drinks such as espressos and lattes but they also offer a Mexican Mocha. I haven't had one yet but plan to on my next visit and will give an update. Their Asian Chicken Salad is a nice meal offering a generous portion of chicken and lettuce. The dressing is somewhat on the sweet side but it was enjoyable to eat (4/5). The location is a nice size offering several tables and chairs and of course, free wi-fi. They have an evening event called Freedom of Speech Thursdays where an Artists Collective of poets, musicians, lyricists, singers gather to share and express their art. A local guitarists also plays on a regular basis. Parking is somewhat a hassle in the evening but if you can find it, there are meters on Hollywood Blvd. and if you are extremely fortunate, perhaps a spot on one of the residential streets but good luck with that. read more

This is a great little cafe located in east Hollywood. Just west of the 101 on Hollywood, parking can be challenging as is standard for this part of Los Angeles. The street meters are your best bet, as the parking at the back of the building is usually full, or allotted to other businesses in the same building. Walk in, and you'll see many Hollywood locals enjoying some brews while reading, playing a board/RP game, or chatting with friends. The menu is pretty good. My favorite dish is the grilled chicken panini with side salad. The ingredients are of higher quality than other spots, as this panini is very tasty. The side salad is a mix of greens with a brown dressing and white cheese. To drink, I usually get the Mexican iced mocha (check my photos of this cafe). Another this I like to get is one of their assorted iced teas. They have WiFi and plenty of seating here. There are plenty of places to plug in your laptop and other electronics. The place brings a trustworthy clientele, as I've never had my laptop or other belongings stolen from here. They have stand up comedy and open mic on certain evenings. read more

We ordered a Grilled Turkey Pesto panini & Asian Chicken Salad. We were sitting inside, waiting for our meals, I was flicking through reviews and photos on yelp. I read one about the meal taking about 20 minutes to arrive, and the grilled turkey panini was cold when it finally did arrive. I didn't recall what time we'd arrived and ordered, but a while later, when our meals still hadn't been served I checked on Yelp to see if it had recorded the time I'd checked in, as I'd done so after ordering and sitting down. Yelp said "20 minutes ago" Right! Literally as I was explaining all of this to my partner, lo and behold our food arrived. The waitress did say "sorry about the wait", and she was pleasant. BUT. . . My panini was barely warm!!! So I suppose that I'm agreeing with the previous poster, whose review was opposed by the owner of the cafe. However, despite the wait, and the luke-warm panini, both of our meals were delicious, hence my 4-star rating. The place has a really good, relaxed atmosphere. Clean, spacious, free wifi and their coffee is delicious! When I first had their Americano I thought it was sweetened but it is actually their coffee! Their Hazelnut latte is so good and oh my goodness - their Mexican Mocha is amaaaaaazinggg - definitely a must try. Their location on the north west corner of Gramercy and Hollywood Blvd. Yes, it's street parking but I always tend to find a spot or two for a friend that's meeting up with me. During my last visit I went in during lunch time and had ordered the Cranberry Turkey Sandwich and tomato soup. (Sigh of relief!!) I have tried quite a few places in Hollywood in regards to changing up my writing/working from my laptop scene and most places just don't have the "it" factor for me, if you are a artist of any sort you know what I'm talking about. Just needed a place where I can work, write, chill, grab a bite to eat and not feel like I need to leave right after my meal is finished. This place has such a nice atmosphere. I must admit. I was EXTREMELY hesitant on trying it out because of the bad reviews in regards to customer service and I am a stickler about good service, because there are too many folks needing jobs out here! But both young guys were chill, friendly & helpful with me and caring enough to ask if I had been there before or needed help figuring out what I wanted to drink. I informed them of the negative reviews on Yelp but I also let them know how much I appreciated them being so friendly & helpful. I was also super excited to see plenty of outlets!! After sitting down I realized they were setting up for Comedy night, I had a long week and though I got distracted from doing my work, I decided to close my laptop & enjoy the show. Where do I start. I rarely give out 5 star reviews to restaurants but when you consistently exceed my expectations it's only fair. From when you arrive to Sabor, Sharon as well as her staff (Tyler and Eli) treat you extremely well. Their customer service with exceptional food is what has me returning consistently. Sabor Y Cultura holds a special place in my heart because it is the first place I came to when I moved to Los Angeles (I literally came here, did my apartment research, and found a place to live right here!). Anyways, they offer a great selection of coffee and tea beverages, as well as smoothies (all fruit, no sweeteners or fillers!), and of course have the usual pastries and such. They also have some other food options, and serve breakfast all day. What I particularly love about this place is that it is spacious, and very quiet, and there is usually a faire amount of parking on the side streets outside as well. I work at the barbershop next door and this place is literally taking all of my gotdam money! I'm a sucker for craft-coffee, as I used to work at various coffee spots before I became a full-time barber. The staff is amazing and friendly. The food is really damn good for a coffee shop (turkey pesto sandwich has my heart.. I would've taken a photo but I don't think you want to see it as I've devoured it). Try their acai smoothie - it's fuego . And it's a hella cute spot that has a bunch of miscellaneous trinkets such as jewelry, sunglasses, and books! Also really good if you want something low key, not a spot to break up with your significant other - don't be that person.. I believe every Thursday they've an open mic as well so if you're looking for spot to perform and get them chills off your back, check this spot out! Had my first Mexican mocha here. That being said, I obviously have no idea what makes or breaks a Mexican mocha, but i really like that it's thick enough to satisfy. Don't care much abt the spices. They microwave their food and the tomato soup was literally COLD. It also wasn't very good. All cream no tomato. My brother had to wait in line for 30 minutes because of the microwave wait so he just didn't get anything. The panini is a sad excuse for a panini. I started to going to Sabor on my way to work years ago for chai lattes. After moving closer to their location, husband & I have been going more frequently. This is my favorite local coffee shop. It makes me feel like I'm in a European youth hostel, and is located next to my all time favorite teeny tiny panini place, which has the world's best salads, no lie. Very good espresso drinks here, not overly roasted in flavor, just good classic lattes and the like. I enjoy a cappuccino on occasion, and, if I dare, go for a croissant. (The baked goods are on point... and trust me, I know my croissants, there is nothing sadder than a subpar pastry that isn't sufficiently flaky, but these have got it down... flaky buttery and great. And they'll heat em up on the panini grill for you, which is extra fantastic!) Inviting ambiance with plenty of seating. Drinks are about as expensive as a starbucks but way yummier with better vibe. This place is wonderful, a perfect place to relax after a long day or to enjoy entertaining events on select days of the week. The S'mores Belgian waffle was presentable, but when it comes to the overall taste: it lacked everything. First of all, the graham crackers were very stale. Second, the waffle was as cold as the ice cream on top of it, as it has been frozen and was put into to microwave. They added probably half a teaspoon of chocolate chips and instead chocolate syrup, they used caramel syrup. All this cost to $8 bucks each. That's way too pricey for a Belgian waffle that tasted okay. Now the service, when cashier was asked how much for the waffles, he didn't want to give a price range, instead he tells you "depends on what waffles you pick." For someone who works for this place, should know better about the menu. On top of that, he wasn't very friendly. Thanks for the experience, but I won't be coming back. I've never NOT waited forever for simple orders. 10 minutes in line, 5 minutes ordering, 15 minutes waiting... for a black coffee, a red eye, and two croissants. Plus every time you go, they are out of a handful of items. I went today at 9am on Sunday and they only had bran muffins in the pastry display?? Like other reviews: it's a little dirty, a little wishy-washy in your orders, realllly slow and inconsistent. It's a shame because with their location, the vibe/decor, and size of the building, this coffee shop has huge potential to be something much better. I have to admit, I've been to this place a half-dozen times now and everytime I order the samething: a cappuccino and one of their Pear-Almond bars. I've gotten hooked on these things. I'm not usually so habitual, but this is a great combo on a Sunday morning. A great hangout. Fast-enough wireless. There are lots of tables of various sizes to accommodate singles, pairs and small groups. Outdoor seating is nice but being on Hollywood Blvd. the drive-by traffic noise gets in the way. Inside, people are relatively quiet and stay to themselves -- not that quiet is important to me, but it may be some. The Sunday morning barista lady is consistently fabulous. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Sabor y Cultura on our interview date. Hollywood's Sabor Y Cultura has a clear goal of wanting to bring together as many people as possible with the power of coffee, waffles, arts, and events. It's really no wonder that Michael enjoys hosting his Outlaws Of Folk series here with its quirky color scheme, spacious floor plan, eye-catching artwork from local artists, and of course, a lovely staff that strives to make sure any patron is comfortable and having a great experience. Apart from the sheer kindness from shop owner Tyler to allow us to film Michael's interview there, I was graced with a food and drink menu that had me torn on what exactly I wanted to order, in a good way. In the end, I just could not say 'no' to the sweet, fresh baked smell of waffles, and opted for a #foodporn worthy strawberry banana Belgian waffle and a dream-y sweet cloud coffee with Irish cream. Sold me a month old expired milk that they keep in their fridge had a huge stomach achea and threw up aftewards i called to complain it went on deaf ears. I was mad as i never expected a "premium coffe shop" can even sell milk like this. The owner is nice but after throwing up because they dont check if the milk is expired... dont go here trust me they treat you well till therws a compaint. Now i was not even able to check if it was expires because the guy brought it out for me. Horrid experience haven't been back since. Always look at the expiration dates. I was gonna report it to the health department and get them in trouble because i have all the proof the pictures of the product the fact that i bought it here etc. But i let it go just putting this review because i dont want someme to gey sick and throw up because someone sold me expired milk. read more

This place is stuck in the 90s, and I mean that in the best way possible. It's the only coffee shop in the area with an atmosphere that makes you want to stay. They're playing Tori Amos through muffled speakers. The walls are painted in a Friends-inspired color palette, blueberry purple, tangerine orange, chamomile yellow. There are "fun" couches in yellow and orange microfiber suede. Service is pretty good. The hot lunchy food is also pretty good for the price. The only problem is the pastries in the display case. They taste like freezer burn. And they're too expensive considering they're not that fresh. Unfortunately, my stop here was only to pick up some food and coffee for the lady as she had a busy shift at the hospital. Seeing that there were many fantastic reviews of this place, I decided to give it a shot as it was close to the hospital. Parking: on Hollywood Blvd, this place sits in a "mall" called clock building. It was a bit confusing as I passed by the parking lot that had a sign marked "for clock bldg customers". It sounded like an apartment complex of some sort, so I decided to ride along Gramercy Pl hoping to find some street parking. Being near Thai town, this area is pretty crowded, so needless to say, my attempt to find parking on the street failed. Circling back to the bldg, I saw the sign and read that Sabora y Cultura was actually part of the bldg (score!) -private parking lot here I come! Atmosphere: As I entered the store, I couldn't help but picture myself walking into a coffee shop straight out of the "Friends" Tv show (good show btw - but wasn't really a die hard fan). The counter and food ordering area is a bit past the door. I couldn't help but notice multiple people waiting for their food. I figured it was the to-go people. My peoples for this day. As I started to looked around waiting for my turn to order, couldn't help but look at the some of the unique items for decorations. They had bookshelves, some cool wall art, and a number of seating both in the main area and the section behind the wall. On this day, it wasn't packed, but looked like a number of regulars - mostly people who seem to be students. Place isn't very loud, so definitely a nice place to catch up on studies. Food: I ordered the turkey and cranberry panini to go. Ordered it with the side salad (which also can be substituted for chips). Knowing my health freak of a gf, I opted for the organic salad. Since she was having a rough day, I ordered her a mocha. It smelled fantastic and looked/tasted to be a winner (I took a sip - sorry!). The preparation of the food took a bit. If you're dining in, it wouldn't be so bad, but if you're just getting your food to go, see if you can order ahead and just pickup on your arrival. They also have some shakes and pastries that look delicious on their menu. Prices are a it on the high side for food, but considering he reviews I received from the lady, it was well worth the wait. Presentation of the food was also nice for a "to-go" option. Miscellaneous: Their POS is square, so transactions and receipt info is quick and easy. The environment is clean and well maintained. The employees seem friendly and willing to help. If you're around this area and looking for something other than Starbucks, shoot for this place. It's a good place to just have a cup of local coffee. read more

I'm sure when it first opened, it must've been the neighborhood's gem. I have been here a few times and I wasn't impressed at all. It is one of those cafes may have opened well, but hasn't kept up. Nothing impressive on their menu, but there is nothing terrible about it. Their service can use some cheering up.
