I waited a year to write this review in hopes the company would follow up with compensation for the damage the movers acknowledged they had cause but we have had no contact. Pros: Showed up only 1 hour late Had blankets and furniture wrap Movers were polite and respectful Cons: Truck broke down on freeway *loaded with our belongings* Truck then broke down on our new street blocking traffic All but one mover was brand new to the company and had had no prior training in moving furniture WE MOVED MOST OF OUR FURNITURE and moved at least twice as fast as the paid movers. I so wanted to write a positive review and recommend them to everyone I know, especially since my move-out of our old place went so smoothly. It was a very pleasant experience. The crew was friendly, professional and they hustled. Nicole who works in the office was great too and so sweet. The experience was much like what Izabela described in her review. Moving is stressful enough so it was nice to at least have a pleasant experience with the movers and office staff. But unfortunately the positive experience did not continue through my whole engagement with Safe Movers. Here's why... We could not move into our new place for a couple of weeks so Safe Movers stored our things and we had them move us into our new place today. It was a completely different experience. The guys they sent this time were not friendly, professional and they moved as slow as molasses. I was moving faster with boxes in my arms than they were when they weren't carrying anything. There was absolutely no sense of urgency or hustle whatsoever. It was a sad, sad scene. In fact it was clear they didn't even want to do the job which was written all over their faces and body language. The whole vide was quite different than my move-out. When I called to complain Peggy apologized and said they would send two additional guys to help speed things up at no additional charge. This made me feel a little better but it was short-lived. For some reason they had to use two trucks instead of one big truck for the move so when the second truck finally arrived there was an issue with the truck which slowed things down (too long of a story to explain). Here are just a few more of the many issues I had with this move: 1. Furniture was damaged, which could have been avoided, for instance, instead of waiting to take off the protective wrap when the furniture got into place they took it off in the hall outside our apartment so when they brought things into the unit they got scratched up. Not to mention they scuffed up walls. 2. Boxes were caved in from the weight of them putting too much on top of them. Particularly our wardrobe boxes and the clothes were at the bottom of the boxes. 3. We had them put together a bunk bed and they made unnecessary additional holes to put it together and did not use some of the ones already drilled and part of the railing is uneven because they did not align it right. 4. One of the movers said something about ants were coming off the bunk bed and I found several too on and near the bunk bed and the only place our bunk bed had been was in Safe Movers storage and on their truck so I'm wondering how we got big ants coming off the bunk bed. 5. We were suppose to get two additional guys to help but we got only one and I ended up being the fifth mover basically just to help move things along. 6. Overall they were slow, inefficient and disorganized. There was not the usual organization, efficiency, rhythm and flow you get when you have good professional movers. And trust me I have moved too many times to count so I know a good move and a bad move when I see it and this was a bad move. I actually ended up tipping the guys way more than I should have but at the end of the day I don't blame them for being themselves. I blame management for putting them on this job. There is no way in hell that crew should be moving anybody. So yes Izabela ask for the same crew who moved you out, otherwise it could be a completely different experience. Side note: The fourth guy that eventually came was Poncho and he was also one of the movers who moved us out of the old place. He was the exception. He hustles and did a great job. Except he did help with the bunk bed so not sure who to blame for that mess up. Overall he did a good job. Unfortunately I did not get the names of the other guys. So that's my review. This was by far the worst move I've ever endured in my life, most stressful and most expensive!! And I've moved a lot. But I will add that This just was not an easy move with Mother Nature making it rather difficult also. Plus, I'm pregnant so I couldn't help out or move anything heavy. My second experience with safe movers was not as top notch as it was during the first, which really disappointed me. I mainly chose them because of the awesome experience I had the first time and I had more furniture and boxes then!! Due to extremely strict HOA rules at the new place I thought these guys would be perfect for the job. However I hadn't expected to pay over $1000 to move less than 10 miles away.... The most expensive move before this one was from Davis to Pinole with 4 movers w/ a different company. I had significantly more furniture and there were no elevators and that cost me $900+! This one was 3 movers, within the same city, elevators at both places and it cost me $1090?? Ugh... 1) Fully equipped? No. During the reservation process I had said that I had a bed that required dismantling. However the team that came did not have the right tools and while one person used a handheld screwdriver to unscrew a ton of screws on the bed the other two just sat back and watched while nothing else in my apartment moved itself. That probably took a good 20-30 minutes each at the start and end which really drove me nuts. Their unpreparedness cost me dearly. 2) fast and efficient? At first I thought they were going pretty quickly. After 2 hours my apartment was looking nearly empty and even the foreman kept telling me "30 minutes more and we're done" so I got excited and prepared to leave. And then I looked in the hallway and saw that they had just moved ALL the furniture to the hallway and my heart sank. This was no 30 minutes left - they still had to put them in the elevator and move them Into the truck. 3) Careful with everything? While they wrapped some of the important items well with blankets and my mattress with saran wrap there were a few items that I was appalled at their carelessness. I'm not one to yell and I was on my own so I bit my tongue as I watched in agony. - They transported my chest drawers with all drawers sliding in and out - this was not wrapped or protected. During all moves this was Always Secured. - The truck was probably just a foot shy of fitting everything. From afar I watched helplessly as they tried to jam (literally stuffing and pushing) the last few items into any hole that it would go into: two floor lamps and my keyboard. - My electric keyboard. One guy said they'd wrap it in something to protect it. They did not. It was raining when they brought it out. I offered to leave it behind and I'd take care of it myself but they said "Oh no, there's room for it." Maybe they ran out of blankets to wrap it but they sure as hell had plenty of saran wrap. - I used their 2 wardrobe boxes. 1) As they carried it out, they carried it wrong, causing the metal thing that hung the clothes inside fall so everything in it was all messed up. Not everything fit into the boxes since it was both my clothes and the boyfriend's clothes. So a few of my dresses and suits (luckily in plastic hanging bags) were left out and transported this way. However, they were just thrown aside at the end location - not even placed in the closet. - As they moved everything into the new apt on their rickety dolly w/a flat tire, I could hear stuff falling down and crashing in the hallway on more than a few of their trips up. 4) Professional? They were friendly, no doubt. However, the first contact was at 8:15 the morning of the move (no confirmation day before) and the guy was calling to find out what size truck to bring. My appointment was between 9-9:30. Of course they got stuck in traffic and didn't arrive until after my scheduled time. And then later I could hear a couple of the guys complaining about how much they had to move and how they were glad there was no baby furniture. That was a bit annoying because if you're a mover shouldn't you expect every move to be hard?? And then there was a shelf that I guess fell apart during transit - they left this in pieces on the floor of my living room and made no attempt to put it back together. Also, I ended up leaving a few smaller items at my old apartment and transported them myself. The last team made sure nothing was left behind. I hired Safe Movers for my 2 bedroom move on May 30th, 2014. They arrived on time and with extra supplies, which was helpful. Within 30 minutes of moving boxes and furniture down to their truck, there was a loud noise from the bedroom. Two of the movers were dismantling my bed frame and the side rail snapped off (the entire bed frame is all wood and very heavy). Needless to say, this event was very disappointing. All I wanted at the end of moving day was my bed. The rest of the move went well as I had pre-packed everything and did not have a lot of furniture to move. The offered to repair the bed frame. I had called the manufacturer and they no longer sold this bed (it was only 10 months old) and did not have any new spare side rails. I allowed them to take away the side rail for repair. The repairs took them TWO WEEKS to complete! TWO WEEKS of sleeping on my mattress on the floor. TWO WEEKS of very little communication or updates from Safe Movers unless I e-mailed them constantly. It sucked. No one ever e-mailed or called me to apologize for the damage itself. No one offered me a discounted moving rate. I had to e-mail them several times to even get an update on the repairs. Finally, they e-mailed to say that the repairs were complete. They showed up on a Saturday morning and they brought the wrong bed frame!!!!! Apparently, they damage a lot of furniture and have a shop onsite that repairs items for them. They had brought another customer's side rail with them. They had to come back a few hours later with the correct side rail. And then they re-installed it incorrectly. It ended up taking 75 minutes to get the bed re-assembled correctly with 3 guys (myself and 2 guys from Safe Movers). The side rail was repaired, but it's not perfect. They could not get the bolts all the way in like it was from the manufacturer. Four weeks after the move, I realized that I was missing a box. I e-mailed Peggy several times, but they never found it (if they even looked for it). This box had a value of about $ 150 - nothing too special - but it's gone. I don't know if it got lost, if it was stolen, or if it was left in the truck and then thrown out. But I don't have it. COUNT YOUR BOXES before your moving company shows up. I would NOT recommend Safe Movers. I understand that everyone has a different experience, but mine was not good from the actual moving event to the follow-up customer service. read more

Do not book this company. The movers were nice enough but they were not professional. They were late, slow, lazy, complained about stairs (which yeah, stairs suck but we told you we had them and you are supposed to be movers!)they complained about the neighborhood we were moving into. The 3rd time I moved though they cancelled on me last minute... but they were courteous and professional enough that they set me up with another company who did a fabulous job. This my fourth move I wanted to go with the folks who moved us last time as they were awesome. ...I thought they were Safe Movers but they weren't, but they had pretty good reviews so I booked them. They were supposed to arrive 9am-930. They called at 830am to say they were on there way They did not arrive till 10:20. They said since they were late they brought 4 ppl to help I instead of 2 and that was great but ok whatever the 2 extra people were there for only 25minutes. The one extra person was a woman who wrapped up our TV and computer nicely and some pictures we had on the wall. She did a good job with that, gave us a bottle of wine and left. As soon as the 2 extra ppl left I was like hmmm...where is the movers ohhhh they went across the street to get drinks and snacks. I have no problem with ppl taking a break but it's proper to let ppl know if you are going to be leaving! Especially when it is 45 minutes after you arrive (and they were late!) The 2 movers that were left one was fast and competent, the other was very slow, complained and was eating and drinking on the job. I blame the company for this he was not a professional mover, it's like someone called off so another person brought their lazy cousin along. Mid move my wife called to complain, the guy on the phone was confrontational and said "I already gave you 2 extra movers free since we were late what more do you want? You won't have to pay for time they are on break " . We were calling him to make him aware that his movers were slow and we were unhappy with them that is not a correct response. She called and then emailed them about our broken microwave and he responded and said he would talk to the movers, but he hasn't gotten back to us. They did not deduct the time they were on break either. Seriously don't mess with this company. I just cannot give enough praise to this moving company! They literally came to my rescue in a time of need. I needed to move same-day and, even though they COULD charge more for a rush move like that, they did NOT! Nicole in the office was professional and kind and empathetic. She and other women from the office even came out to pack me. I called at 8:30 in the morning and by 9:30 a.m. they had mobilized 5 people to get my out of a 4 bedroom home! They were done in 3.5 hours! I was out by lunch. Chico, their lead, is just an amazing person - professional, courteous, conscientiousness, caring... and his crew, too, took GREAT care with every item. I also used Safe Movers to move me out of their storage (which was super convenient when I left my home!) into my new place the next week. I did not expect to find a place so fast so even though they COULD charge me for the whole month of storage I committed to, they did NOT! I was in such a hurry to leave my last home, I didn't pay attention to how things were packed but boy was it like Christmas time to unwrap their meticulous packing in my new place! Every item was bubble wrapped and NOT ONE THING BROKE! I had antiques and many glass items and they were in pristine condition! And every single furniture item was wrapped in plastic. Not a shred of dust fell on anything! Given the HUGE rush I was in to get everything out of my old place, I truly expected some breakage. Instead, what I got was the best move I have ever experienced - ever! And I have moved 42 times. They even had to carry extra long custom couches up three flights of stairs... no complaints, no breaks, not scuffs ... done in 3 hours on the receiving side too. We found safe movers here on yelp, and I'm so glad we did! We were able to book them for a Monday move on Friday. Chico, Pancho and the other guy( can't remember his name) were fantastic! They were careful, but moved pretty fast. They carefully wrapped up all of our furniture, which was a huge relief. Nothing was damaged or broken and I really appreciate that. It did take four hours, but we have a lot of crap. Last time we moved, we did it ourselves and it took a whole day to move all of our stuff so four hours is nothing. I have to say, a special shout out to Chico. He was very friendly, talked to us the whole time, and didn't get overly frustrated when our ridiculously large couch wasn't fitting through the hallway in our new house. He got it through without damaging our couch. All three of them were super friendly, and had smiles on their faces. Not only that, they showed on exactly on time. Often times what makes a great company is not what they do perfectly, but how they handle situations when things go wrong. Somehow our reservation didn't show up on their schedule. When I called to check on their status 5 min after their start time, the guy on the phone said we weren't on the schedule, but was able to find email proof for my reservation. He then said he'd call me back with a fix. "We haven't missed an appointment yet, we're not going to start now!" 10 min later he calls back saying he had a crew and truck in route. Not only were the 2 movers amazing and kind, but they finished on time! This is important because we had reserved a time for the freight elevator that couldn't be changed. In the end, we paid only for the time that they worked, and not the full time reserved. So I give this company 5 stars because it was the best response they could have given us. I have moved many, many times in my life. I have never had such a professional company. I selected three movers to save time. It all started with my quote. The email was so professional, very responsive, and I was given a very detailed breakdown of charges. The movers showed up and were the most efficient, friendly guys I have ever had move me. They moved my personal residence once, and then a few years later they moved my office from the Walnut Creek area into the Oakland area. They did everything they said they were going to do; when they said they were going to do it; and they treated me like I was their only customer (rather than a number on a corporate spread sheet). They were patient (I was a little neurotic about certain things, as moving is very unsettling to me) and kind. Their customer service was excellent. I probably got on their nerves a few times with my over-thinking and my many follow up questions....but they never let it show. They were polite and showed empathy the entire time. These guys are the absolute best! I needed to move some very heavy filing cabinets (6 total, 700lb each cabinet) from Walnut creek to San Francisco. I phoned two other companies to get the job done, one complained that they weren't on pallets so they couldn't take them, the other said they didn't send enough man power. Of course I had already told them how heavy they were and that they weren't on pallets. Fast Forward to 3PM on Thursday, I was calling everyone to see about moving these, 90% said they didn't have the tools to do it and the other 10% couldn't commit till the next week. Then comes nick and his crew, I called, he asked for me to send an email with all the details of the job. I hear back around 5PM with a quote and that he might be able to do it tonight if not tomorrow. The quote was higher then what I had gotten from other companies but at this point I wanted to know someone would commit and follow through on their word. 6PM rolls around and I get an email saying he is sending his crew on their way. Nick keeps me updated on their progress, how long it took them to drive out there, load time, etc. He lets me know that he sent 4 guys instead of the 3 he quoted me to ensure that there was enough man power to get things done. He said he would only charge me for the three though. I offer to meet him in the middle ($175/hour vs 150 or 200). Fast Forward to 8PM and the crew is calling me to tell me they've arrived. Victor, Shun, Reggie and Tone back their truck in, all greet me with a handshake and an upbeat attitude. They get right to work, I ask if they can move the items to the other side of the building, they agree without hesitation. They take care not scratch the floors with these heavy cabinets and make sure that this exactly where and what configuration I want them in. 8:40PM and these guys are all done, each of them is sweating up a storm from working their butts off. Victor calls Nick and lets me know that I will only be charged 2.66 hours instead of the 4.5 I was originally quoted. I throw the guys a 10% tip and send Nick the money via paypal plus a 3% tip to cover the transaction fee. If you are a good, honest, reasonable person and want a likewise minded moving crew go with Safe Movers, I would use them to move my apartment, my office or anything heavy or awkward. I'm actually excited to write this review! I have never had a more pleasant or efficient move...ever. The appointment was easy breezy to set, I got a check in call the morning of, the guys showed up right on time and got right to it. They were incredibly nice, careful with everything, took great caution even with my junky items and were just awesome. Everything I asked them to do - like add this item or that - they said yes to with no problems. The guys were SO efficient that: 1. It caught me off guard that they were so fast that I could barely get my shoes on before they were out the door and headed to the new place. 2. Someone from the company went by my old place to make sure I was happy with the service and all was going well - but we had already left! They called me though, which was such a thoughtful gesture! 3. My new house is 20 minutes from my old place. By the time they had unloaded and unwrapped everything, I hadn't even hit the two hour minimum. I had expected things to take at least three hours so a nice chunk of the money they saved me through their efficiency became their tip. I used Safe Movers to move my wife and myself from a one bedroom in SF to another (sorely needed) one bedroom in SF. My wife and I are extremely busy, and we looked to save a lot of time with Safe Movers. We hired them to pack and move us. I couldn't have been more pleased with them. They packed well and packed quickly (3 hours total) and Anthony and Victor then moved everything to our new place. Our new place was 3 stories up, and the movers still unpacked in what I would consider exceptional speed. The company was very pleasant to work with and were very responsive to my questions both during and prior to the move. I would definitely recommend them to anyone moving and will use them again (hopefully in a couple years) when we move outside of the city. read more

I would not recommend safe movers to my worst enemy. I'm very suspicious of the five-star ratings here on yelp. The owners seem to be very shady and the workers appeared to be high at the time of my move. I have multiple items missing and multiple items damaged. I've gotten no response from either of the owners after multiple calls. Please do your research and choose a different mover. A few hundred dollars is worth the price to pay for professional movers and not have damage and items missing. After reading the responses from the owners to any negative information here on yelp , should be a huge red flag to anyone that reads any of the reviews here on yelp. I would not recommend safe movers again I would not recommend safe movers. read more

I have used Safe Movers twice and had great experiences both times. They are easy to work with over email to set everything up. They communicate well and show up on time and charge what they say they will. On one of the two moves, the owner sent me a check for $25 because he said the movers (accidentally) overcharged me. Honesty like that is pretty rare in general, but it's exceptionally rare in the moving business. With movers in general you get a trade off between fast and careful. I would say these guys fall more on the careful side, which is of course not a bad thing, just some info for you. Their prices are slightly lower than the competition so that helps make up for maybe taking a little longer. Safe Movers are trustworthy, professional, and reasonably priced - what more can you ask for? read more

Easiest move ever! On time --- Clean and polite --- Under estimate For having to move, Safe Movers made it very easy for me. I used them for a full move, packing and loading and unloading. This crew was nothing short of terrific. First off, they communicate everything. Confirmation of the appointment, clarity on how much was being moved and the status of the packing and moving. Second, the packing is impeccable. They packed using some of my supplies and some of theirs. It all worked out great. Not too much, not too little. Lastly, everything arrived and was unloaded quickly. Stuff ended up where it was supposed to be. It was all done under the estimate. That was a delight all on its own. Highly recommend Safe Movers, especially if you have specific move-in/move-out procedures for your building. We did a local move from a downtown condo. Our building has strict moving procedures, one of which is proof of insurance and workers comp that we submit to management. I was worried that some movers would not be able to supply this in time for our move, but Safe Movers got it, and we were good to go. They also followed all our other building moving rules without complaint and treated our stuff and the building with care and respect. Big ups to Eric and Sean who were both efficient and careful.Nothing broken! If you care about your stuff and don't want to get fined by your building, I'd check these guys out. read more

I had paintings transported from San Francisco to Berkeley. They arrived in perfect condition and the movers were very nice and trustworthy. The only complaint is they were running 30 mins late but that is no big deal to me. Also the cost came in much less than was estimated which was a pleasant surprise. I highly HIGHLY recommend Save Movers for your next move! Professional, fast, friendly - simply the best!!!! At the end of May I needed to move my 4 bedroom house in Walnut Creek into a storage until my new place was ready. I called around and requested quotes from a few well rated moving companies. They were all nice and polite, but Safe Movers for 1. came over to do the onsite estimate in timely matter; 2. gave me an incredibly competitive rate (thank you Serp!!) and 3. were available when I needed them, which was the following week (short notice - no problem!). I was stoked!!! The day of the move they called me to let me know they were on their way and they came on time. There was 3 of them - Eric, Antonio and Alfonzo (Poncho) - I hope I didn't mess up their names (?) Each of them was very friendly and professional and WORKED THEIR BUTTS OFF!! I'm talking bunk beds, king size bed, heavy desk, monster entertainment center, just crap load of stuff!! They had tools and packing materials they needed and all I had to do is chill! Well, ok - I packed a few last boxes ;) Eric, Antonio and Poncho managed to clear OUT and into a truck my 4 bedroom, 2200 sq.ft house in mere 4 HOURS!!! My husband and I were extremely impressed! This was our 4th move in last 14 years and first and only that went so incredibly smoothly! I will have another updated after my move IN, but I have a good feeling about it. Of course I'm planning to request the same crew :) Side note - a couple of days after moving out I realized that my and my son's bike was also packed away, which wasn't my intention, but I forgot to specify that. I called Nicole (who is their office manager, I believe, and who also was very sweet and friendly throughout) and I asked if by any chance I could retrieve the bikes from their storage. Truthfully I half expected a "no", simply thinking it might be not that easy to get to them. But she consulted with Serp and I was told I can pick them up the next day (which was a Sunday!) Needless to say - I was very pleasantly surprised! I went to their Oakland facility the next day and got the bikes! Mind you - Nicole made a special trip there to assist me! And as I was leaving I met the owner who came out to say hi to me!! Super nice!!! Therefore - once again, I absolutely with no hesitation recommend these guys!! Thank you Safe Movers! read more

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - STARS! To put it simple, Safe Movers saved our move & our backs! So heres how our story goes... Earlier this month my wife and I moved up from Los Angeles to Oakland. We underestimated the need for help with the move and ended up calling around for additonal help with our move-in on the drive up to Oakland...yikes. My first call was to 2 Men & A Truck...when I asked for 2 guys for the next morning the nice phone operator said that probably wasn't possible...and since I was calling from a truck stop with limited web/phone service, I said...do you by chance have anyone you could recommend??? The operator said no and then said, how about I do a quick Yelp search for you...I said THANK YOU please do!!! He said you could try Safe Movers, they sound legit. :) So I did. I called Nick @ 3pm in the afternoon from a truck stop just a few hours out of LA. He was awesome and said no problem we can help and we began texting out the logistics from there and we were scheduled for the next morning. The next day went great for us. Sean & Davonne showed up early and kicked butt. Nick is great, but the experience didn't live up to the lofty Yelp rating. My main complaints: 1) No matter how much I begged and pleaded with the crew to slow down, take their time, and pack carefully (including interrupting and calling them all together to talk to them), only one guy on the crew was actually did careful packing work. Yes, I would more than pleased to pay for the move to be done carefully. No dice. 2) Nick did not allow remotely enough time for the move. When the crew is still working at 7PM, and their boss has just booked unexpected gigs for the following day, it ain't fun. (Yes, we had many more days available in which the job could have been resumed.) 3) Nick comes back after the job is over and does favors, i.e., free-of-charge small chores, to make everybody feel better about the whole experience. (And because he does seem to be a good guy.) But, please forget the "afterwards" favors, I would prefer that the move had been a pleasure in the first place. In mitigation, Nick apparently mis-estimated the scale of our move. That happens. And we did get the move done, on the original schedule, with only a few damaged items. (Some boxes in storage are still a jumble.) And Nick certainly is fun. So, three stars over all. Wish I could rate him higher. But I'm afraid I really don't want to use him again. (Note, I don't speak for my wife -- they gave her some help with the kitchen, after the move, that she found quite valuable.) PS: Nick, please don't call.
