Really nice store with really nice, hardworking people. It's big and offers lots of choices.

This store does not care about keeping customers safe !!!! A lady come into the store with no mask and started arguing at self check out with other customers because "she doesn't need to wear a mask." At self check out they are not wiping after every customer so they had every right to be mad. She then started screaming at people, threated to fight 3 people and instead of managers walking her out they started checking out her stuff and bagging her groceries. They did not call the police to report that she threated to beat two men and a women WITH A CHILD. There where not even apologies to the people who where verbally abused and threatened. The managers that handled it seemed to have absolutely no training in de-escalating situations like that and had no concerns for the customers that where mistreated. I asked what the managers names where it was Cara, Mackenzie, and a cashier Janet. What a slap in the face that they treated they're law obeying customers like that after being treated so badly . They literally gave the abusive woman the special treatment and again did not apologize or try to protect the people she threatened! I will be reposting this to the better business bureau and forwarding this to their corporate so they are aware of the lack of safety and concerns these terrible poorly trained managers and employees have imposed on the surprise public. Stopped to get some smokes late at night, there were about to close. I told the cashier " I know your closing but can I please get some cigarettes " . She was so friendly and didn't care that her drawer was closed . She reopened it and I was out in two minutes.. read more

Nobody that works there is friendly. It feels like everyone hates their jobs. Twice I have walked out almost in tears. I will never go back.

This is a great store! If you want quality then I my opinion this is the place. The bakery is by far the best in the area when it comes grocery stores. The meat selection is always good and the service is prompt, they focus on quality cuts. read more

On Tuesday I went to Safeway to order our Christmas dinner thinking this would make dinner easier. We have done this in the past from a different location and received a complete dinner all cooked and ready to heat up. This was NOT the case this time. When my father went yesterday evening to pick up our dinner the cashier in the deli walked around the store and picked up the items. They are not cooked and PREPACKAGED. Also the food we requested was not available according to the person in the deli and we were given substituted items we did not want or request. We paid 81.00 dollars for what? I could have done this and saved myself more than half the money. I am very upset with the quality of food and service. I don't got to grocery stores that often, but Safeway is just like any other average grocery store. (Better than Walmart, I have to say) The cashiers are always nice, and always ask how my day was and how I was doing. And, if you shop there, you can really save on gas! The only problem I have with this store is not enough fresh bread. The bread is always hard, and never fresh, unless you ask for them to bake you a fresh batch which takes awhile. The pharmacy is great, even when there swamped with people, their always nice to you and always try to answer whatever problems you have. Since this store has been bought out by Alberstons, the prices have sky rocketed, and now everything is to expensive for my test. All in all, the Safeway is just like any other grocery store. read more

Worst Safeway! The Starbucks is terrible! People are slow!!! Don't bother stopping there. It's not worth it

We used to go to this Safeway frequently. The prices are a little high but you could find good deals. We stopped going because of the staff. The moral among the employees seemed to drop. They can be grumpy and rude. The baristas at the Starbucks seem annoyed when customers come in (on several occasions). I am very disappointed in what happened to this location and hope that it will change. read more

Recently visited 170 Ave. Safeway store in Surprise. 2 registers open but no express lane and no automated check-outs. After a long wait and only 3-4 items to purchase, noticed many customers also in line with just a few items. When I finally got to the checker, I ask her if the store was ever going to get the automated check-out machines to speed things along. The checker told me Safeway was never going to install those machines because customers steal groceries. She then went on to complain how customers will take anything and walk out the door. The lady in line behind me complained about the limited number of checkers open, again neither was the express lane. The checker appeared offended and didn't care assuming we were customers that would also STEAL from her store. Decided I will visit Frye's more often since this Safeway Store is apparently, according to the checker, in a high crime area and regard all customers as thieves. Sad. read more

Very friendly staff!, from the bakery to the pharmacy! The produce dept. always has someone available to help me pick a ripe melon. Excellent quality meat and produce. We often purchase the rack of ribs and the fried chicken in the deli----the chicken is the best around! Always someone around to offer their help finding something or carrying out the groceries to your car! I find it handy as I bank at US Bank----they have an in-store bank, they too are friendly and helpful......I get all of this done without having to drive all over town.....just a great place to shop. read more

Since 2004, this place has gone down hill and $$PRICES $$ are ridiculous. Rented a Rug Doctor a few months ago & it was DISGUSTING! Animal hair and cat litter caked the bottom of this thing. It smelled like urine! Tonight, I spent $336 and will not spend another dime in this establishment. Only 2 cashiers, really? This has always been an issue regardless. The bagger heaped my cart and I prayed an avalanche wouldn't occur on my way to the car. I asked for help out just for this reason. When I got to the car, the kid just looked at me for a moment, then asked if I needed help unloading. Really? Okay bosses, teach your kids a little respect and work ethics. You know your store is overpriced as it is but how about making it a pleasant experience despite. I'm not returning to this store ever again. All of Surprise is on pins & needles waiting for Whole Foods to open. ONE employee months ago helped me to the car. He said his hours were being cut and you're still in the process of hiring new people because you don't want to pay anyone, decently. I dont need another reason to say, Bye-bye Safeway!! read more

Clean, and friendly service, however they never have enough cashiers! I've been several times, but now I only go if I absolutely can't find something I'm looking for. They could learn a lot from Frys grocery store! As soon as the lines get long, more clerks are called to the front,(FRys) which avoids long wait times and super long lines! My suggestion to Safeway would be; if you only have two aisles open and they are both long, try calling more cashiers so we aren't waiting forever. I've heard other customers complain of the very same thing. read more
