They had a great lunch deal. Two rolls and miso soup for 17$. All the prices are great. The server working was nice and welcoming. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Also ordered a Philly roll on the side. I'll be back to try more items.

This was such an unexpectedly great meal. We came for the 3-5pm "good deal" and ended up staying until the 5-7pm happy hour-- Sake Bomb was just that good. I personally ordered the: + 49er's Roll (5/5) + Salmon Roll (4/5) + Chu-Toro (6/5) + Hamachi (6/5) Oh my gosh, this place has the most amazing HH nigiris. They seemed pricey at first, but once they arrived and we tried them, all 6 of us ordered another round of nigiris. These are OMAKASE-level bites! The chu-toro and hamachi nigiris were some of the most umami, tender, and well-balanced ones I've ever had. The official rolls were so reasonable for the price of around $20 each. They all looked delicious and come with a good-sized portion, enough to supplement a full meal. Service was amazing!! Our waitress taught us how to do the sake bomb game with our drinks. It was a great meal and a great experience. I will 100% be back here again!

Had some nice hot sake to warm up after the cold afternoon. Ordered the chicken teriyaki which was sweet and salty, tempura was good and then also had some unagi nigiri. A lot of food for a good price and best of all, very close by so didn't have to walk too far in the cold.

This place is phenomenal! My friend is coming back and wanted to try sushi. The worst thing about this place was finding space to park. Out of all the rolls we bought the Sake Bomb roll was the best! Service was quick and attentive and provided a good experience.

This place is fantastic. Very affordable prices but high quality food. Everything on the menu is delicious. Their Happy Hour deals are why I go here so often! Especially the $2 nigiri. I suggest the salmon, butterfish (walu?) and any of the toros. Often they're out of tomago but when they have it, it's so fresh and so good. For rolls I like the 49ers but they're literally all great. The Watermelon one is really unique flavor (no rice, wrapped in thin cucumber). The vibe is casual. Service is always great. I've never been disappointed.

Came here for a Monday night dinner and made a reservation. This is one of the few places in SF that opens late. It can get popular so recommend getting a reservation! We got the volcano roll to share and I got the salmon don. The volcano roll was massive and definitely tasted unique but I wouldn't get it again. Salmon don was good and fish were fresh. It also came with miso soup. They seem to have a good happy hour menu so I would come back for the happy hour menu. Service isn't as attentive but that's because they are very busy!

This is my new favorite sushi restaurant in the bay area. Sake Bomb is a smaller sushi restaurant in Mission but the fish is fresh, the prices are good and the service is great. I stopped by Sake Bomb for dinner and I really enjoyed my experience. I made an online reservation but we were able to be seated early, about 20 minutes. Ended up sitting at the bar but the chairs are comfortable and you get to watch the dishes get prepared. I ordered the chef's choice nigiri, seaweed salad, and of course sake and beer. My favorite nigiri piece was the chu-toro, melt in your mouth fatty tuna. The rest of the nigiri was also very good. I think it's an under rated aspect of sushi but the rice they prepare was delicious. The nigiri platter came with a fried shrimp head that was pretty good. Also forget that a spicy tuna roll was ordered and it was one of the best spicy tuna rolls I've ever had. The server recommended the Dassai 45 sake and it paired well with the food. The service was great, attentive and a good sense of humor. Overall a great experience while being a great price in comparison to a lot of the popular omakase sushi restaurants in SF. There are daily happy hour sushi specials that I would love to take advantage of if I lived closer to the city. Worth it, worth it, worth it!

Good sushi, decently priced. Came for their happy hour! Great service! About 5 tables, usually there is no wait. their salmon is probably their best nigiri. The shrimp tempura roll was ok, the spicy salmon was very good.

Yummy sushi! I stopped by with friends to try while we were walking around the area and I was so happy that this ended up being delicious! The highlight was the Salmon Lover Roll. The fish was so fresh and the roll was very well balanced. It paired nicely with a small amount of soy sauce. The wait staff was helpful and made recommendations for the group. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was cozy, and it has a good layout that separates table areas. Overall: Great place with fresh fish to stop for a meal and I would come back again!

We used to love this place and splurge 3-4x a year here. Overall was happy with quality and service (although watch out - almost every visit, they left out part of our order, but still billed for it. Take pictures of items received.) However, after our last visit we were really disappointed. They're starting to skimp on portions while increasing prices. From the photos, though I ordered less pieces in December, the pieces I got were much smaller than before. The bathroom was also pretty dirty this time and despite requesting booth seating in advance (and it was available), they had us sit at a tiny table (yet allowed parties of the same size to go to the booths after us).

Came here for happy hour on a Friday. Can't beat $1.50 oysters. They were a great size and the sauce was very flavorful. We ordered a second dozen after finishing the first. Happy hour is worth it for the oysters alone! We also got a sake, salmon lover roll, spicy tuna handroll, spicy salmon handroll, and chicken karage. The staff was so friendly and the service was great. They were very attentive and refilled our sake glasses when they were low. When they saw we were celebrating something, they took our Polaroid and added it to their wall. So cute! Great happy hour spot.

Fish bone on top right of plate.

Ordered a dozen of oysters and a specifically asked if the oysters were raw and plain, the waitress said yes. When the oysters came out, there was a sauce in it and I said I thought it was supposed to be plain and she said oh it comes with a sauce, but it's really good. Then I ordered unagi and it had two or more bones. I took a picture of the last two. Smh they removed the oyster and unagi nigiri and the waitress came back and told me she will have to pay for it out of her pocket. How rude and disappointing having to be told this when you are trying to verbally make your point about the service.

    Side salad! Good deal
    Amy -.

Wow this is a great place! And yes they have sake bombs! Dropped in on a whim and they have happy hour everyday from 5-7pm. Their salmon skin salad is a steal and loaded. If they have their smoke special nigiri you should try a few. We also got their veggie tempura roll. Overall great experience.

We tried a bunch of different things and I'm glad that we did because the nigiri was not the best thing on the menu. I would come back here for the other things like the box set (otoro, wagyu, uni, ikura). The agedashi tofu was the best I've ever had. The teacup steamed egg was presented well but for the price nothing really that special. I suspect the price is high because of the caviar & ikura. It's not bad, but it takes a while, it's small and not anything that stood out like the agedashi tofu or the other items. The service was really good. They provided a small dessert for us because we were celebrating an event, that was a nice touch. Overall, id come back but maybe not for an omakase or just nigiri.

It's been a while…read more I actually came here for dinner a couple years ago after taking a long gap after the world changed in 2020. They stopped serving lunch, a rotational place for business lunches and when entertaining visiting friends. I noticed a sign a few weeks ago that they started serving lunch again (started in April, as told by our waiter). I was happy that this is now an option for these lunches again. In studying the menu, the selection hasn't changed much though it is pared down a bit with a few of my favorite appetizers gone (shishito peppers). My go-to in the past was the business set lunch, still available and what I ordered on two business lunches on consecutive Fridays. It comes with choices for a two-course meal, not counting the provide bowl of miso soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=oIkVbbqPY0HWG9y3YbriEA) and a bowl of rice. Here's what I had: a. Yellowtail sashimi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=rSCkN5J6l_tJ419JdnxrUg) with shallots and poached garlic ponzu - This is as I remember and a great start to this meal. b., 1st visit NY strip steak (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=4TTrlrBTj60xo_ejeBNg7A), medium rare, with sauteed Japanese mushrooms - I don't recall whether this was Wagyu or not prior to Covid but, with inflation since that time, it's still a pretty good deal at this price. It was hearty and the mushrooms were a good complement along with the bowl of rice. b., 2nd visit Black cod (4 oz) with mixed green salad - Sorry as the conversation was serious so I forgot to take a photo. I passed on this on my 1st meal but knew it would be my 2nd entree here. It was miso marinated with the meat being tender and flavorful. Again, great with rice. Do pay attention for bones (they are larger) as I got two on my piece. Shared dishes: a. Sweet corn with soy garlic butter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Fviru3AbJYA_41PQ8geaTg) - There are four to an order so one diner had an extra cob. The portions are perfect as a pre-meal or accompanying bite for our meals. We had this both lunches. b. Crispy brussel sprouts with mustard and bonito flakes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=yUjFMqXOxfF-UyYN6ltybw) - We had this on our 1st lunch and, again, a nice dish to mix with rice. c. Salmon tataki (4 pc) with brown butter ponzu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=I18uKPl-QG0wVQrUUWAglQ) - A lighter shared dish where the ponzu didn't overpower the salmon. On our first visit, there was one large table near the entrance occupied and scattering of tables with two diners. The following week, the dining room was about 2/3rd full and there were two waiters manning the dining room. Our waiters, two different ones for each lunch, were very professional and cordial. With the neighborhood offices filling up with workers onsite, the return of lunch service makes sense. Looking forward to dining here again.

The service was decent, but nothing special and felt distant. While they wished us happy anniversary, there was no complimentary dessert, glass wine, decoration, etc. Which is okay, some places do and some don't. We ordered a couple of appetizers, a carafe of sake, and a couple of entrees and there was some difficulty and confusion with the order in which the dishes came out, which wasn't a big deal, just as little out of sync with the meal. The appetizers were great, I had the edamame which were perfectly cooked and salted, and my wife loved her rolls and sushi. My steak was beautiful, the presentation was immaculate, and the garnishes were delicious and overall tasted good, but there was something about the combination or maybe the chimichirri sauce that didn't quite hit as there was no high note, just a good baseline steak. I also ordered the sweet corn and that was simply amazing, the flavors were outstanding and utterly delicious. Overall a good dinner, but it didn't really feel like a $300 experience. I probably wouldn't return at that value.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
