We went to Caumsett Historic State Park and based on its reviews, chose Sal D's for lunch. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed lunch al fresco--a reasonably priced and more importantly delicious pizza, thin crust. It was not your gooey cheese and the tomato sauce was delicate as well. Went here for dinner this past Saturday and was very happy with our meal. Tucked away in a small strip on Wall Street is this gem. Food and service was excellent. I'm writing this review not for their food which we've always enjoyed but their poor management style. My cousins who were frequent customers made the reservation. My cousin's husband is handicapped so getting there in time was a bit of an undertaking. When we arrived we were told that we were late and they gave up our reservation. Mind you, in hindsight, we should have called but anyone who has a handicapped person knows the struggle. I was surprised that no accommodations were offered so we left...needless to say we will not be returning. Too bad ,, great food but their attitude left a poor taste in our mouth! read more

Came here because we were looking for nice seafood in the area and other yelpers seemed to really enjoy this restaurant. The Yelpers-love-us sticker by the door is always good to see too. My fellow yelpers were right on with all their stars. Sal D's is a lovely place. We were in search of seafood, and the regular menu as a few fish dishes, but the specials menu was chock-full of fish. First things first - Every single staff member had a smile on their face. How refreshing to run into people who like their jobs. We had fried calamari appetizer - delicious. Nice light breading and plenty of marinara to dip... I would have liked spicier sauce, and I'm sure they would have accomodated, but my husband had devoured the plate before I had the chance to ask. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi Oreganata, which kinda disappointed me, because that's what I had chosen, and I have a thing against ordering two of the same entree... The mahi mahi was delicious, broiled with crumbly bread over the top and a light lemon sauce - mixed veggies and a potato croquette. I settled on the Black Sea Bass al Forno, even though I generally stay away from the tomato-fish combo (unless its shellfish or calamari) I am soooo glad i did ! The al forno was to die for. 5 stars for this dish alone, the tomatoes were a compliment to the dish, didn't take it over. We enjoyed 2 specials, one app - one glass of wine, one beer - under $100 including tip. CAN'T GO WRONG. I'll be back - I hear the clams are awesome. read more

yes we actually came here on Valentines day! my husband had made a reservation not sure if thats the rule here... this is located in a small strip of stores you could easily not notice it we were seated right away its on the smaller side with a tiny bar right up front it was decked out Valentines day with red lights and candles on the table (maybe the candles are always there ) but nice either way we had bread on the table right away friendly waitress took our drink order its a little noisy but its small and it was filled salads came quick nice and fresh with gorgonzola ( I love this cheese ) I ordered penne with vodka sauce (cnanged from the rigatoni) waitress assured me their pastas are cooked al dente husband had a chicken parm surprise surprise its what he always orders at any Italain so when he says its good its good. and he says it was good my pasta was perfect steamy hot and cooked perfect we were offered pepper and grated cheese as soon as they were placed on the table delish I will come back here for the pasta for sure we had no dessert too stuffed read more

With family living right down the street, I eat at Sal D's often, and I am always happy with meals here. The ambiance is fairly casual with paintings and mirrors on the walls and brown paper over the tables, but the food is delicious in its simplicity. One of my favorite dishes here is the "clam soup" which is actually roasted clams in a white wine garlic broth similar to a mussels preparation. I also order the vongole pasta which is basically the same but with heaps of fresh al dente pasta. Other favorites are the bar pies (super thin crust pizzas), veal milanese and lasagna. We always order salads too, which are portioned large enough to share, and they consistently have a delicious specials menu. read more

Ordered catering for a birthday party and they provided guidance as to how much food to order. While we enjoy having more than enough, their recommendation was way more than enough! Anyways, food was fantastic and we will return. Pasta primavera and eggplant rollatini were the favorites. Best Italian bread around. Good but not great. The decor leaves a lot to be desired. It's pretty old in there. I had the veal pizziola and the caprice salad. My wife had a fish dish both were acceptable but not extraordinary. My sister and nephew both had the minestrone soup, shrimp Parmesan,and chicken Parmesan. Both were very salty. The minestrone soup was more like chicken soup than minestrone. Went for a special family dinner last night. We were all VERY disappointed. Only 3 tables occupied when we arrived but had to wait for a waitress. Took drink order then sat at the bar before finally taking appt order. One guest ordered a special because it came with fusilli. It came with rotini. Told it was the same thing..NOT!!! Mozzarella sticks came out on top of the fried calamari. Did not work for our guest with seafood allergy. Another guest ordered tiramisu off the dessert menu only to come back and be told we don't have. Service was pathetic. The busboy was at our table more than the waitress. This place is so consistent. Leaving my office locally and trying to decide where to go for lunch with all of the choices Huntington offers I head to Sal D. What is not to love about Sal D's?! One of the best Italian joints on Long Island, and definitely the best one in Huntington! The food is fantastic and the prices are really reasonable for the quality! Surprised its not more expensive. The inside is beautifully decorated, very clean, smells wonderful and is very spacious. Every waitress or waiter I've had has been fantastic!! Very attentive, friendly, helpful and welcoming. I've never had a wait there, even on busy nights, they seem to be able to seat you right away. Just means not enough people know about this hidden gem!!! I love that there is a parking lot and I have never had an issue finding parking there. It is just outside of town, so you're close enough to town, but also not RIGHT THERE if you're looking for a little less populated area. But you can definitely walk there from town if you want. They also do take-out, which we do ALL THE TIME! They've never messed up the order and the food is always piping hot when we take it home! The baked clams are some of my favorite on the island and the vodka sauce is out of this world! We do every birthday celebration here now! Very accommodating and family-oriented. This week I dined at Sal D's, a local Italian restaurant that I and several family members frequent. Overall, the meal was quite good. The food is tasty, the dining room was recently renovated and the staff is generally friendly, although not overly friendly considering how often we are there. My only real complaints were $4 for extra sauce (when my dish didn't come with much) and the hostess has a scowl fixed on her face, seems to not want to be there and stared at our table throughout the meal. I'll be back, but the petty upcharges and unpleasant hostess negatively impacted the experience. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night. Found Sal D's on Yelp. Drove by the restaurant on the way there. HIdden in a strip mall. Started out with the fra diavolo mussels for an appetizer. They were very good for the price but were not spicy like we ordered. We shared a Caesar salad after the appetizer and it was good but not for $8. We finished with the Shrimp fra Diavolo extra spicy and it came out like regular tomato sauce and was pretty small in portion as well. Overall, this place was OK but not the best Italian I have had by any stretch. Porto Vivo and other Italian places in the village are just as good, if not better. read more

I visited this restaurant with two coworkers for dinner in May 2015. It was my first time there and I thought the place was very nice inside. Linen table cloths and nicely decorated, clean and quaint. There is a small bar when you walk in by there is somewhat of a wall between the bar and dining room. It's not a huge place. The service was very good and the food was delicious, even the bread on the table was soft and yummy. We had fried calamari which was very good. I ordered chicken francaise and it was absolutely delicious. Probably some of the best I've had. The portion is very big and I enjoyed every bite. I can't recall what my coworkers are but their plates looked just as appetizing. We also sat there for quite a while talking without being rushed out, which was nice too. They do the small stuff really well here, staff is on top of every detail. The parm's here are the bomb, especially the shrimp. Very good bologonese sauce, red sauce is well done. I celebrated my birthday at Sal D's the other night, and it was AMAZING! There was a good crowd for a Tuesday but we were seated quickly. Our server, Barbara, was an absolute doll, and very attentive, as was our busboy (whose name I can't recall at the moment - sorry! - but he was lovely when we spoke, and also attentive). The food was phenomenal! The Baked Clams Oreganata were THE best I've ever had, with the most beautiful, thin crust on top. (They even offered to chop the clams for me when I mentioned I'm not a huge fan of whole clams). My husband and son loved the huge mussels marinara appetizer they shared. In fact, my son loved it so much, he ordered Zuppa Di Pesce (shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops and calamari over linguini in his chosen marinara sauce). This is high praise from someone who didn't really eat seafood until a few years ago! His father had the Veal Marsala and declared it delicious. I ordered the Filet of Sole Oreganata with mixed veggies and every single component was cooked and seasoned to perfection. All the staff were so friendly, and they were beyond kind in accepting a very old gift certificate. Chef Cody came out of the kitchen to say hello to us after we sent our compliments, which was really sweet, as it was his uncle who had given my husband the gift certificate. They were even more generous, comping us with dessert and coffee! My son loved his cannolis, and the shared cheesecake with raspberry sauce and the tiramisu were so creamy and delicious! The owner's grandson, Nico, was also present, and I had the great pleasure of chatting with his lovely mother as I cooed at her beautiful son. We will most definitely be back! Great restaurant for families. Just re-did the dining room and it looks terrific. All the entrees are delicious. The chicken scarpellio (although not in your traditional lemon sauce) is served with a brown veal base sauce and vinegar peppers is outstanding. The bolognese and clam sauce are near perfect but I love to order as an app a half portion of spaghetti (al dente) with garlic, anchovy and hot peppers. The calamari arrabbiata for an app is a must for the table. Shrimp fra divalo for an app or entree is always a good choice and veal parm is a big favorite. read more

Husband and I stopped in one rainy week night. It wasn't busy, but we had heard great things about the place. We ordered chicken francese, capellini bolognese, cheese ravioli, and a house salad. Everything was great! The pieces of chicken were of great quality. The only thing that makes me give it one star less than 5, is that we like the francese sauce better at another Italian restaurant. I have been eating at Sal D's for years but I will not be going back. I have always been happy with the food but nothing bothers me more than waiting for a table in the bar area and watch a friend of the family or someone that comes in more often than me pass me by on the waiting list. This has happened to me on 3 different occasions, I would be waiting in the little bar area for 15 or 20 minutes and then a couple walks in off the street gives the woman a kiss (short black hair, maybe Sal's wife) and passes right by the list and gets seated ahead of me while I continue to wait there. So like I said the food is good but I will not pay money to be annoyed at dinner. There are too many great restaurants in Huntington that respect the waiting list.
