I went here for dinner a few nights ago while visiting bar harbor. We chose it randomly while walking down the street and also because it was New Mexican cuisine, which was interesting. The ambience is very odd. It is small inside and the tables are so close together. We were pretty much sitting at the same table as the people across from us, which was a bit uncomfortable. It's not really decorated either, just a room with a bar and tables. Also you had to walk outside to get to the bathroom. The service was okay. The waitress was nice but it was so slow. It took us about 30 minutes to get two margaritas and then even longer for our food. It was especially frustrating because there was only two other tables of people when we got there. When we asked for our drinks, she got frustrated and said that the bar tender was making them. The food itself was good. I've never had a New Mexican style enchilada, which was layered tortillas instead of rolled. The sauces were good and so were the rice and beans. When we finally got our margarita it was delicious. It was the monthly special, blueberry. This place would probably be best for take out. read more

Went a bit after typical lunch time so it wasn't as busy. I was given the option to choose to sit on the patio and of course I said yes. Eating al fresco is the way to go! Their inside dining space is a bit depressing. Our party of 8 had a great experience-our server was slammed with tables and did a great job checking on us. Food wise, we recommend the carnitas street tacos, burritos, a side of grilled chicken, and enchiladas; plus the spicy pineapple margarita. Their guacamole was just okay. The quesadillas (offered for kids) was not good - bland. We were there for an early dinner and the food came out quickly. Overall, a great meal! read more

Good food, decent service, but kind of odd; they don't really seem to know what is on their menu or drinks menu. I asked what genepy was in the cocktail at the top of their specialty cocktail list, and he said he didn't know and hadn't had that cocktail in a while. Wait, aren't you trying to sell people your specialty cocktails. We also had to wait a bit to order drinks, but not painfully long, just awkward. After that, pretty friendly and attentive, but not asking if we wanted second drinks. Our son's lemonade was also pretty bitter. Classic margarita was delicious. Enchiladas carne asada were dry, very little sauce, I got both red and green sauce but really couldn't see it on or in the enchiladas. Tasted like spicy corn tortillas with melted cheese. Rice and beans were very lightly seasoned. The plate needed some salsa and sour cream. Everyone else at my table tried the tacos, pollo, carnitas and carne asada. Very little salsa on the tacos, no extra toppings or sides. Table used the leftover salsa from the chips and salsa appetizer for the tacos. Service was very slow. Ambiance was nice. read more

I rely on yelp but almost never do reviews but had to for Salsa Verde. This place is LEGIT!! We're here on vacation coming from DC area where we eat out a lot, including at very good Mexican/Salvadorian restaurants. Salsa Verde was on par with anything we've had there. Salsas were all delicious. Enchiladas "Christmas" made my husband drool. Sopapillas were perfectly light and crispy. Real crema on everything (meaning me asking for extra on the side which they didn't charge me for). They were super accommodating with my kids off menu request for just tacos (not a platter) saving us money. Service was friendly and fast! Don't bother standing in lines for all the generic restaurants, do yourself a favor and eat here. read more

This place is amazing! Such a gem. We did it as takeout since it was January and my partner picked our food up so I can't speak to the dine-in experience / ambiance, but in terms of the quality of the food and the price it was awesome. Honestly, did NOT expect to get such an awesome burrito in Maine. I hope they stay open for many years to come because we will definitely back many times. We (coincidentally) are staying about a block away from Salsa Verde Grill for a week this summer and I think it might be a daily burrito stop!!! read more

Best thing I had to eat on my weekend trip to Bar Harbor. Enough said. The food was 11/10. They start you out with complimentary chips and salsa, the chips are a blue corn tortillas and their salsa is so incredibly tasty. You can tell they're making these salsas daily. The taste is so fresh and delicious. Their food is out of this world too. They have a small menu, but everything is freshly made to order and there are no misses. We got the taquitos plate (so good) and the carnitas street tacos. We ended up getting seconds of their street tacos, they were that good! I also had a pineapple spicy margarita, delicious!!!!!!!! My family and I love Mexican food. We've been to New Mexico, SoCal, Arizona, Texas, and Mexico several times and have had many exceptional meals there. This past weekend, we traveled up to Bar Harbor, expecting to eat great lobster, which we got plenty of. By day three of our trip however, we just needed a change of pace. We saw Salsa Verde on Yelp and decided to give it a try. To our pleasant surprise, it was excellent. Salsa Verde may be one of the best Mexican restaurants in the northeast. We are from New York City and have tried many great Mexican restaurants there. What Salsa Verde does is not fancy; the food presentation is simple, the restaurant decor is homey, and the menu only contains a few dishes - but what it does well, better than 99% of other Mexican restaurants, is great tasting authentic food. To be precise, the cuisine served here is New Mexican food. And, as far as I can tell, this was as good as I've ever had it, including from the streets of Santa Fe. Everything was light, perfectly seasoned, tasty yet not overbearing, and warm but not too spicy. I can't say any dish or side, including salsas, rice, beans etc. was anything short of fantastic. I tried the Sopaipillas with Carne Asada. The meat was tender with a slight crisp, and again, perfectly seasoned. The Sopaipilla was executed well and all the toppings worked together wonderfully. The churros at the end of the meal were a highlight. Maybe some of the best I've ever had anywhere in the US! And lastly, the margaritas were delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Food is fantastic if you like authentic Mexican food with natural spices and peppers. I got the Carna Asada Sopaipilla dinner everything was delicious; the spicy salsa was spicy. My wife had the street tacos. They were great two. The shell was made fresh along with her rice and beans. I ordered the chips and guacamole, which was good but a little expensive for the size bowl you get, but the chips were made fresh each time and perfectly salted. Lastly, their margarita was fantastic. Everything was well balanced, not to sweet, and just enough tequila. I live in Texas and have eaten good New Mexican cuisine. Tex Mex and New Mex have their own flavors. This place is one of the best if not the best New Mexico places I have ever eaten. The recipes are inspired by generations of home cooking in the Albuquerque area. If you get tired of eating lobster (yes it's possible) and like a spicy kick, definitely check out Salsa Verde. BTW, I had the stacked chicken enchiladas and they were perfect. If you ask for chips and salsa, you get these magnificent warm blue corn chips. Went up off season and found this amazing spot. Tried to call ahead as I read the reviews about the size and ambiance of the location. Perhaps I got a bad number because the phone went unanswered. Hopped in the car and decided to see if it was even open (many places up here are hit or miss if they are actually open). Got to the location and I'm happy I wasn't going to eat in. The location is indeed small, but it's very cozy, and has a bar to seat about 10 people. As this place was packed, I didn't set any expectation on the service. The waitress acknowledged me, helped tables before me, and took my order. The order was steak and carnitas sopaipilla, steak tostadas, and chips and salsa to go. I asked for medium and mild salsa. Lisa was friendly, apologized for how busy it was and that my food would take a while (listen, don't be sorry for being full), and told me to come back in 30-40 min. I went back to my hotel, hung out, and returned 40 min later, and was told my food was ready!!! Thank you for setting an expectation and meeting it!!! I returned to the hotel, opened the boxes and found more food than we knew what to do with. The portions were large and a wonderful value. As for the food.... This is the best Mexican food we have found in Maine. Having lived in Arizona for over a decade, while not being Latino, we think we have a pretty keen palate for decent Mexican food. We have yet to find an acceptable Mexican place in the last five years. This may have been some of the best Mexican food I've ever had and my wife agreed. The carne asada and carnitas were fantastic as was the tostada. Salsa? I got the mild and the medium (green) and was so very happy to have tried both! What a welcome addition to Maine and the Bar Harbor area. I will be so sad if I come up next season and Salsa Verde is closed. Please eat here and keep this business open! read more

Came here for dinner during our stay in Bar Harbor. The food was pretty good, we got steak, enchiladas, and veggie sopaipilla. The only thing to watch out is the baseline spiciness is pretty spicy. Steak enchiladas were great my only other complaint is the lighting. The restaurant is bright, white incandescent lighting. I dislike this lighting for a chill dinner experience. Just having yellow lights would have made our dinner a bit more enjoyable. WOULD COME BACK! read more

Every single item we ordered was excellent, authentic, and fresh: spicy pineapple margarita and classic margarita, calabacitas burrito with "Christmas" salsa (blend of their spicy medium green and their super flavorful mild red), a loaded sopapilla and for dessert the sopapillas with honey--haven't had these since visiting New Mexico years ago. Oh and can't forget the chips and homemade salsa. While I usually love spicy salsas, the mild red was the better option here. I wish I could have bought a few jars to take home. Stopped here for the first time ever. 'Outofstater' from Florida. We walked by this place on our walk and decided to stop in as there wasn't a long wait at all a Monday afternoon. AMAZING service and AMAZING food. I got the carne asada tacos and they were beyond delicious. Came with very authentic green salsa. Their chips are beyond good and don't even need salsa to eat them. You are going to want to try their chips above everything else, GET 2 ORDERS! Chill environment and great selection of alcohol.
