The wife and I were in the shopping Center and the restaurant was convenient to stop and eat lunch and im not too shy to try something new or different. We were blown away by the quality and freshness of the food we ate. Flavor was amazing. Presentation was beautiful and the waitress was lovely. I had the chowder and it was so good. I really want to give this place a five star review but when I review places, I review an overall experience, and I can't confidently say this place is a five as an overall experience. Without hesitation I can say the food is a five star! I have been to almost all of the vegan restaurants in Charlotte that I am aware exist, and this is one of top best with regards to food. The food is unique, creative, nicely presented and most importantly delicious! The atmosphere of the restaurant is quaint and comfortable. The service is what has brought my review way down and for me service is an important component to my experience. In fact, service can really make or break an experience and influence whether someone returns. The hours of this restaurant are not convenient at all and are not always consistent with what is reflected on the door of the restaurant or what is listed on line. Four out of five times when I have come to this restaurant, it is closed. In addition, and more disappointingly, the people that have waited on my family and I have been really rude. The rudeness makes the overall experience not a place I want to return to despite how good the food is. read more

This place is truly a sanctuary. The food is out of this world and the menu constantly updates (while retaining a few favorites), so it has become a weekly favorite. The owners are kind and compassionate towards others and animals. The interior is lovely, unfortunately I didn't eat in before the pandemic started but I've been loving ordering takeout from them weekly. The oyster mushrooms are delicious, I love the wraps, and my favorite entrée so far has been the Chimichurri Portobello with creamy polenta. This was my favorite restaurant in the greater San Francisco Bay Area and I was sad when they left for Charlotte to be closer to family. Although I lived over an hour from the restaurant, it was always worth the drive to celebrate special occasions. Their plant-based food is healthful, sustainable, and compassionate, and the owners are good and loving people committed to helping make our world a better place. I had an opportunity to visit them in Charlotte while on vacation this week and I am so happy they are thriving in their new location. Berkeley's loss is Charlotte's gain! I really like this restaurant because it's vegan and organic. My only complaint is that almost everything on the menu has soy in it, so if you're trying to avoid soy your options are very limited. I was really excited to try this restaurant as I'm plant-based (primarily alkaline) and it's always a struggle finding places to eat. Since it was my birthday I finally convinced my husband to try it with me. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with Trader Joe's so it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. We went on a Thursday around 1pm so it wasn't crowded but enough diners to keep the one waiter occupied. The food itself we had no issue with. We both had the fried oyster mushroom po'boy/wrap, one with and one without the sauce. My biggest issue was the cleanliness or lack thereof. The only waiter there (who was wearing all black) had hair and animal hair all over her shirt and pants. I'm not sure what she used to wipe the tables down but it left some form of a lint residue all over the table which it then begin to fly in the air, landing on my clothes, husband's face and arms. The glasses for our water were dirty so we asked for another pair however those were also dirty so then we just asked for paper cups but once we poured the water in, there were also stuff floating so I just decided to get a water bottle out of my car and drink that. The last straw for me was when we finally got our food and unfolded our black napkins we both had some type of animal hair (maybe a dog or cat as it was short hair) inside of our napkins as well. Wow. Just...wow! We are fairly new vegans and this was such an amazing treat. Jennifer was so sweet, the food was amazing, and essentially we loved everything about this restaurant. Tonight we shared the charcuterie plate (unbelievably good!!), a lovely bottle of Chardonnay, and snuck tastes of of each other's entrees- BVQ mignon and the sesame roasted cauliflower (both were outstanding!). Sanctuary Bistro is hands down one of the best restaurants to eat in Charlotte. It is an all vegan/gluten free establishment. I have Celiac Disease, and have had a terrible time in the past being able to trust any restaurant that has GF items on the menu (cross contamination etc). When I heard that Sanctuary Bistro is Gluten Free/Vegan, I almost cried. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff and owners are all so wonderful and helpful! I love that I can eat their food and never have to worry. I recommend this restaurant to everyone no matter if you have food restrictions or not! And half a restaurant was empty. Black lady host is a racist and gave a table to black couple, but didn't wanna give a table to 2 white rich girls with no reservation . It's rude and country. Brought our dinner home from Sanctuary Bistro and could not have been happier. Tara was a friendly voice on the phone when I ordered. Meal was ready to go when I arrived. Most of the meal traveled well - the Beet Salad was awesome as was the Avocado Sushi. We warmed/crisped up the Potatoes in a cast iron pan, the Cassoulet was delicious and can't say enough about the Rawlmond Joy for dessert. We were here for our July dinner date and as much as I would like to post pictures of what we ate we simply cannot. We pretty much licked every plate clean and did it with a smile. First, I'm going to mention the fact that there were only 3 people working that night for a table of 9, 4 and our table of 2. Still our food came out at the perfect time and it gave us a chance to relax and enjoy the meal. Perfect date night for parents might I add. Very intimate setting. We wanted to order everything but Jennifer kept us decent and reminded us we could always come back lol. She was an excellent hostess, waitress and bartender. Trust me she gets her steps in but kept a smile on her face the whole time and kept us laughing. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. The King Trumpet Scallops were exquisite. Try them! How Chef Barry does it, no clue. He literally sprinkles joy into these dishes. Not to mention the wine paired so well with everything we ordered.
