I ordered Uber eats from here and my expectations were far exceeded. I ordered chicken Alfredo and the farmers salad. Both were the best thing I've had all week of staying nearby for work. I was a pleasant surprise how fresh the dressing and corn was in the salad as well as the slight kick the Alfredo had. My wife wasn't hungry and ordered the side of green chili Mac and cheese and it's the best I've ever tasted in Santa Fe. I've visited here 6 times and to me- they have the very best Mac and cheese. If I come back I will eat here again. Since I'm staying on the far end of town and the less tourist area- this is the restaurant I'd choose most. Pretty sure it wasn't a sever, but a manager who asked 'has someone been with you yet' Clearly the answer was no, since we still had our menus, nothing to drink, no silverware, etc. She took our order and left. A food runner brought drinks and silver. Another food runner brought our food. We had to ask for salt/pepper. Never saw another person. No refills on drinks. No 'how is everything'. We had to ask the hostess to find our server to get a check. When the check arrived the person asked if wanted refills on our empty drinks (a little late) Food was average. I have never had to send back a Ceasar salad before. It was extremely poor quality lettuce and lacked any flavor. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich. It was DRY and COLD, which matched the fries it came with. One of the others at the table had a "B salad" which they liked very much. Service was also poor. The server made four errors in the order and there were only four of us at the table. Generally nice atmosphere but the four of us (all in our 40s) were not "hip" enough to avoid being put in the corner of the kid's room even though there were plenty of other tables. Bad Food, Bad Service, Ok Atmosphere... There are many good places in Santa Fe that should keep you from wasting your time and money at this spot. read more

Made our first visit Saturday night. We live right down the road so don't know why it took us so long to discover this place. Sampled an assortment of appetizers available for happy hour. Calamari was outstanding as were nachos. Chicken wings were surprisingly crispy and favorable. Lettuce wraps were a bit bland especially compared to the flavorful other items. Our waiter was attentive and kept us posted when the drinks were a bit slow in coming. You don't feel so bad when you know you haven't been forgotten. This review is based on the new sushi special on Wednesdays. I usually go to Capitol Grill for happy hour and weekend mimosas. I'm a fan of their specials since I'm burned out on their regular menu for the most part. I only ordered the hand rolls and the veggie tempura this time, my first time ordering sushi from their menu because I usually order from across the courtyard from the sushi restaurant there. The hand rolls were a little bit loose, I can roll better hand rolls, but they were still great, just a little sloppy. For some reason, my order, and I ordered four sushi dishes, had no wasabi... Santa Fe Capital Grill is a jewel in the historic, Part of Santa Fe, NM. Inside, Capital Grill is both light and dark because of lighting and white reflecting mirrors. The dining area is both private and open atmosphere with booths lining walls, a few tables in the center and a beautiful bar. This local restaurant is deceiving because beyond the main room are other dining areas and patio. You see I'm not the biggest fan of people. I hate crowds too. I especially hate crowds at places that I like or want to go to. This works out for places like Disneyland because I don't really wanna go there and there are lot's of mouth breather's there too. It also works out for Capital Grill because while it is a Santa Fe staple and very popular, it's not always busy and crowded with the herd. Positive reviews on Yelp can only hurt this fantastic situation methinks. Alas, my love for the place far outweighs my fear that it will become ever increasingly popular with the masses. Simply put, this place is amazing. Very low key, relaxed and unpretentious. It is what it is. And bottom line, it's got a surprisingly large menu and I've had just about everything there, and there's not one item that I didn't flat out love. Usually they're playing news and/or sports there so that works for entertainment in case your company isn't very entertaining. Plus they serve beer on tap! Which is always a very good thing. Been here 3 times. If you're looking to grab a bud light with your hvac tech this may be the spot for you. If you're looking for good food and drinks probably not. Go to Southside Plaza Restaurant next door. The first time we went the service was terrible. Margarita - $12 tasted like a popsicle with well tequila. We were charged twice for every drink, prices were different than listed on the menu, everything was slow, and when we disputed the charges the server and manager tried to argue. After they adjusted the check and brought it back it was still wrong. Second time was ok. Food and service is on par with Fridays/Applebee's. Third and last time went for Happy Hour. After being told 10 minutes for a table and waiting 25 minutes starring at a chalkboard menu saying best happy hour in town and looking at the happy hour menu on the website with the QR code at the host stand and deciding what to order, I was happy to be finally be seated. Service was ok, food was ok, what you'd expect from fridays/Applebee's. When I was presented the bill nothing had been discounted for happy hour. After telling the server they went and got the manager. I was told they weren't doing happy hour anymore. Despite the QR code on the website directing to happy hour every day and the giant chalkboard in the front where I waited saying best happy hour in town. I told the manager that's the only reason I went and she said sorry, I might be able to do a discount but not as much as happy hour. How long does it take to erase chalk? COVID has been going on for 9 months.... how long does it take to change the website? Why wouldn't servers say anything? I live on the South side of Santa Fe, close to the Capitol Grill. I'm happy to report that, after years of seemingly endless ownership/management changes that prevented this restaurant from living up to its potential, Capitol Grill is not only under new ownership, but has a new executive chef. I've had the pleasure of meeting Bill, the new owner, and Chef Luis, and I can safely say that with these two industry veterans now running the show, the Capitol Grill is finally in good hands, and firing on all eight cylinders. Any reviews that are less than two months old are irrelevant at this point. I most recently visited Capitol Grill this week, starting off with a South of the Border Shrimp cocktail, and I must admit, I was a bit nervous. Here's the description from the menu: "Poached shrimp, tomato broth, diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, cucumbers, avocado & lime juice, served with crackers and tortilla chips." This is clearly not your grandfather's shrimp cocktail. I've always felt that when a chef tries to improve on classic dishes, the results can often be underwhelming. A good example of the perfection of simplicity might be pasta with butter and cheese. Try to improve on that and you have an equal chance of hitting or missing. This one was definitely a hit, a very nice twist on this old standby, and it looked as good as it tasted. This was followed up with a very nicely done red chile roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, whiskey creamed corn, and tomatillo salsa, and for dessert, an excellent butter cake with crème anglaise, with vanilla bean ice cream. I also sampled two of the fourteen craft beers they have on draft, the La Cumbre Elevated IPA, and the Deschutes Fresh Squeezed, both excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. If you haven't visited Capitol Grill recently, or if this is your first time, it's a great time to stop in for a casual lunch or dinner in their comfortable dining room, at the bar, or, weather permitting, on their outdoor patio with indoor/outdoor bar. Say hello to Bill and Chef Luis. They are both very hands-on, personable, almost always on-site, and happy to see you, which is more than I can say about the previous owners. PS: As always, my rating is based on how well this specific restaurant does what they set out to do. Capital Grill is not trying to be the fanciest or most expensive restaurant in Santa Fe. It's a high-end, casual restaurant, without the high-end prices, and they are at or near the top of my list.for SF dining destinations in that category. read more

The atmosphere is nice, almost modern in feel. Windows provide a view and ambient light. There are booths as well as high tables. The bar is covered in brushed steel leaving a clean and beautiful dining surface. This is clearly a resturant built around the bar. It's a beautiful stage with plenty of room. The food is good and the Chile hot. This time I had 5he patty melt, it was cooked perfectly! They could probably start serving ketchup in a bit larger containers everytime I run out and have to bother someone for more. The drinks are well mixed even if they are a bit pricy. Compared to my other experiences in Santa Fe during the past few months in bars to fine dining restaurants, it was SO refreshing to have a lovely meal on the patio at a price that definitely fit my budget. The angus beef sliders were just perfectly cooked with all the condiments and described. They showed up in a very reasonable time after ordering. The calamari was as good as I remembered (but they need to provide more dipping sauce). It wasn't overly greasy but could have been drained. The star of the show however was my server. I don't hear well so I don't want to mess up on her name. So bright and positive and helpful and attentive to all her tables in my area. I did something I've never done before. I use to go to the Santa Fe Capitol Grill often. It was an excellent restaurant. Trying it recently after a 6 year hiatus, I found out it that it has new owners. Here is a good tip. Find out what made it an excellent restaurant before and don't change a thing. When popcorn shrimp come out of a box, thats a problem. The appetizers consisted of wings and the popcorn shrimp. Wings were fair and Seapack made the shrimp dish. Enough said. Dinner was good. The Steak Medallions were tender and plentiful. My son's had the sirloin which he said was good and easy to cut, so it seems that the quality of meat was good. After the appetizers we were afraid that the steaks were coming from Wal Mart. Our server Luis was attentive, fast and did a great job. However, when I order dry martini and I can taste a lot of Vermouth, thats either a bad bartender or our server did not write it down. Restaurant pretty darn empty for the lack of service, poor quality appetizers (hot food served cold), meats cooked so hard on tacos it was inedible, no fresh options for cocktails, virtually ignored by our waiter. To add insult to injury, servers decided it was ok to feed someone's I'll behaved non service dog or even vested. My vested service dog was then put in the position of hMaving watch the ill behaved folks pet drool,etc. I have walked with a real medical service dog for almost 20 years. What an unexpected treat it was to find this off the tourist path restaurant. My friends and I sat on the patio, which was quite comfortable and lovely as it was in the summertime when we ate here. Rather than fighting the crowds in the Square, this restaurant was recommended as a place where the locals eat. I can see why! The food was excellent, as was the service. I had a pretty terrible experience at Capitol Grill. I came here to meet friends after they had already been here an hour, expecting them to be solidly through or done with their meal. They were still waiting. The waiter seemed both stressed without support but also 'under the influence'. Drinks didn't show up for 40 minutes or were the wrong item, items came out in nonsensical orders, etc. While my appetizer was just okay, my friend ordered a fairly expensive steak and stopped after 1 bite. The seasoning and flavor made it inedible. I made her send it back even if she was too nice. I'm not sure what was going on that night, but it was chaos, food to forever and ended up being either cold or downright terrible. One of the oddest dining experiences in Santa Fe. My husband and I have been here before for happy hour and had fairly positive experiences with the appetizer menu, so we decided to try dinner. Like I said, it was odd. First, the waiter didn't seem to know how to act. Every time he came to the table he said some variation of, "what do you need?" It came across as abrupt and bordering on rude. Maybe he was new or perhaps he's just not used to being around people. Towards the end of the meal, after trying to flag him down multiple times, he seemed to be trying to salvage his tip by making small talk. Fine, but at that point we wanted to pay the bill and get out. The food was also disappointing. I had the steak medallions which tasted like, for lack of a better analogy, the kind of meat one would get at Applebee's. I shudder to think- did the chef microwave it? The raspberry demi glacé was bland with annoying little seeds that got stuck in my teeth, and the garlic mashed potatoes were tasteless. My husband got the chicken fried chicken which was just ok, definitely not as good as what we could have gotten next door for less. The bill with 20% gratuity came to nearly $70.00, so not worth the food we pushed around our plates. I guess I could have complained, but I'm not that type of person. Capitol Grill has a nice feel to it and I so wanted to like it, but unforunately, even three stars is generous. I started off by asking for a Dark n' Stormy and the waiter said he wasn't sure if they had it. My dad's wife orders a Campari and Soda and my dad the SF Brewing Company lager. I ordered the green chile cheese burger with bacon and sweet potato fries. It comes quick enough, but aparently not quick enough, because the burger I ordered medium is in fact wellllll-done. Even with the bacon and the green chile, it still tasted bland, overcooked and chewy. My fries were just regular. I ate a few, then got bored of them. Everyone else seemed to like their dishes, but they lost me for the most part. The only reason I'd ever come back here is because it's got some class and seems like a good place to meet someone for a drink.
