I came here for brunch with a group of friends and everything was excellent. We did have a prefixed brunch menu for $45 which included one mimosa, one app, one entre and dessert. Scalini Osteria is a perfect brunch spot on weekends from 11:30am - 2:30pm. Their brunch menu is $38.95 per person, such a great deal. It comes with a drink, appetizer and main course. Truth be told, I was giving this place a very average review...until the food came out. I was unimpressed, maybe even a little turned off by the service. It was hard to get a drink at the bar, the staff was arguing and being critical of the runners, we felt overlooked waiting for drinks. The bar is small, although well-stocked. My wife and were commenting how we'd heard great things, but it just wasn't living up to the good word of our fellow villagers. But then... This is the best food in town. Absolutely blown away. Pasta cooked perfectly. Salty enough to bring out the flavor, but not overpowering. the meats. Simply fantastic. Don't leave without dessert. Who is in this kitchen? They are nothing short of world-class. Very cool to see the italian microbrews on the menu and sample a few. It's on the pricier side, but we will definitely overlook some of the shortcomings to be able to experience the cuisine again. read more

Scalini has been our go-to in Bronxville for many years. We used to love the "Romeo & Juliet" table on the steps in the outdoor space. During the pandemic, we would come and happily sit outside in the dead of winter and delight in their food and exceptional service. (They have now enclosed the back, and the charm has gone.) Unfortunately, we are starting to be disappointed in the restaurant overall. Yes, it is pricey, but I have no issue with that if the experience and food are worth it. What I cannot abide is when the restaurant is both pricy and lacking. The branzino is a $40 entree. For that top price, I expect a whole fish. Nope. At $40, it is a single filet. A serving of lasagna is $33. Should be a fantastic take on this traditional peasant food then, correct? It came swimming in sauce. When I found the actual lasagna, as my mother-in-law used to say, "it wouldn't have filled a cavity". Add to that, it had mushy pasta and little filling. I left the restaurant still so hungry that I had to have leftovers when we got home. With three glasses of wine at $16 each, the check was $124 before tip. I'll happily pay $124 for something where the exchange is fair, and I do understand how hard it is to make a margin in food service. But Scalini is following a disappointing trend of restaurants that charge top dollar and deliver far less in return. Happy to come back if that changes. read more

Great local Italian restaurant. Hidden gem in bronxville. The restaurant is definitely a home that was flipped. The service was fantastic. Not a lot of people one a Sunday night which made it even better. Perfect for a date night. I had two espresso martinis which were ok. The spicy pomegranate marg was delicious, would definitely order again. Started off with a Cesar salad and grilled rock shrimp. The grilled shrimp was super fresh and delicious. For the entree we ordered the pumpkin ravioli which I wouldn't really recommend because it was heavy on the pumpkin and the branzino which was great. I wasn't impressed. First, the staff are snobbish. I know, I know. Scalini is in Bronxville. Nothing less should be expected, right? However, when you patronize a guest because they don't see where something is located on the menu, that just brings snobbery to a whole new level. I also thought it strange they did not say there was a coat room/rack, which no one would ever notice when first coming in because it's tucked away in a corner behind you. I got the impression they wanted it used even though they had not suggested it. Second, while the interior features appealing art and design and is attractively decorated for the holidays, the main dining room is rather small. There is an additional room in the back, however, which was in use for a party during this visit. Third, the food is just ok besides pricey. They serve a good Tuscan white bean salad with a mix of bread slices (sesame, multigrain, and Italian) at every table. I ordered the pappardelle as my main course. The short rib meat and the pappardelle themselves were cooked perfectly, but I was wondering about the ragu, which was drowned out by the marsala glace and onions. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting either. Fourth, is it too much to have soap that isn't watered down in the dispenser in the ladies' room? First time at this quaint Italian restaurant for NYE. Reservations made a week prior for 6 pm. Arrived 30 minutes early to sit at pretty marble top bar for a cocktail. Eight comfortable bar chairs at the bar. Good cosmo and dry martini. Once we sat down the hostess nicely reminded us there was a two hour maximum at table. Huge municipal lot behind restaurant. They have outside tables with heat lamps but we decided to eat indoors. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. The food was very good. I started with a roasted beet salad with candied pecans, goat cheese and coppilini mushrooms mixed with arugula. The salad was tasty and a nice portion. The onions were warm while the beets were not so could have done without the onions. Lamb shank served with risotto was delicious. The lamb was fall off the bone tender. The pasta dish was tasty. Carrot cake cake as moist and dense. We shared dessert with after dessert dinner drinks. We enjoyed our food and were satisfied with our experience. Scalini has been a fixture in Bronxville for a long time. After not having been there in years, I recently had a long and remarkable lunch in the DiRosa's Tuscan gem. A birthday lunch for four , we had wonderful food from on and off the menu. My sister had been a regular and was still well remembered by the staff and ordered two dishes including a squash appetizer, that is remarkable, but not on the menu. The osso buco was remarkably good over a wonderful Parmesan risotto and glazed baby carrots. The birthday girl had the octopus which was scrumptious and tender, perfectly cooked & seasoned. This place looks quite nice, has plenty of outdoor seating in the back and a small outdoor area in a front patio/balcony. Every time we walk by this place we're curious about it so we finally decided to try it for lunch on a warm afternoon. The good - staff was friendly and attentive when we requested services. No so good - the food took well over 30 minutes to arrive and we only ordered two dishes. It was the middle of the week for lunch and the place didn't have many tables occupied. The food was not memorable, actually it didn't taste that good. We shared an app (ahi tuna) and a main (spaghetti carbonara); neither tasted fresh. For these two shared items + 1 drink the bill was over $50; I'm not sure if they were having an off day or what... but for the prices they are charging I'm not inclined to go again and risk a bad meal. I really wish the food was good because the outdoor patio is a great location for couples or any date night. If they ever revamp the menu and shake things up, I might be willing to give it another try. read more

Great food , good waiter but the gentleman that was In charge behaved in an unprofessional manner. We walked in thru the outside area entrance. The gentleman corrected me and said this is not an entrance. My wife and I were there to celebrate my birthday. He then proceeded to seat us by the outdoor stair case I stated I'd prefer not to sit by an entrance and he went again to correct me with a very aggressive tone. The gentleman is Hispanic and me being Hispanic not fitting his regular demographic he spoke down to me. During our visit my partner noticed he checked on other clients tables but would walk pass mine and give me a side eye. As good as the food and wait staff were his behavior was triggering enough for us to never return and not recommend your otherwise wonderful restaurant. Honestly I think it's good for Bronxville and would get less stars from others if you put it up against an Italian restaurant in Manhattan The waiters are experienced and the service is good They have a tiny outdoor space out front And don't have their own parking lot but are right near a municipal lot They need to do something about the flies. It was not enjoyable. Too bad cuz the sauce was nice and slightly spicy The carbonara pasta - it was Al dente which was nice and generous amount of crispy pancetta but it was maybe a 7/10 in flavor. Idk why. I don't think it's a traditional carbonara. And for some reason it was grey? The cacio Pepe rice balls are delicious The pine nut tarte is nice and not too sweet but lacked something - it was a tiny bit bland The pistachio gelato is not bright green and has a gentle pistachio flavor The bread plates had finger prints all over them. Consider having your staff wear gloves when they set up. Scalini food was delicious. Went for girls night out bday dinner. We shared the tagliatelle with roasted oxtail sugo and crab arancini. Our entree's was grilled halibut scottish , butternut squash. And my girlfriend had the braised lamb shank. Our crafted cocktails were Smokin Flower, Passion Fruit Caipirinha, and Spicy Pomegranate Margarita. There were bottles of sanitizer at each table, which I appreciated. We sat outside in the back, and the ambiance was divine. The area the restaurant is in looks like the same ones in the cute Hallmark TV Christmas shows. There were large heat warmers, so I never felt cold. Like, who wants to dine outside with a jacket on?! Bronxville may seem like another sleepy Westchester suburb (which it kind of is), but they actually have a number of restaurants that are worth going to and a pleasant village to walk around. I've been to quite a few of the eateries here, and while some aren't worth a second look, others I find myself coming back to. When my father said he wanted to try out Scalini for Father's Day dinner, I was really intrigued since it was a Bronxville restaurant I hadn't tried yet. One of my colleagues had good things to say about it, so I was excited to see what they had to offer. Tucked away on a side road off the main drag, Scalini's dining areas are broken up by a small porch out front with tables, an interior dining room, and an outdoor seating area which is kind of situated in an alley (but it's nice - I just can't find a better word to describe it). The decor is nothing outrageous - classic semi-upscale with a muted color scheme and light tablecloths. We decided to sit outdoors - it wasn't a large space but it was such a nice day and they made it quite cozy. The menu for Father's Day was set - they had a selection of starters, salads, and entrees but it wasn't the regular menu. For my app I decided to get the crab cake. This was very good - the coating was crispy which gave way to a flavorful cake. The zucchini and avocado it was paired with was a nice complement. For my main I had the salmon which was served with artichoke, leeks, and quinoa. The salmon was very tasty, nice and crisp on the outside and cooked to medium on the inside. The artichokes especially had great flavor - almost a sharp taste that went well with the fish. For dessert I had their pistachio gelato - smooth and chock full of nuts which was nice to see. Service was very good, and overall I'm a fan of Scalini. With the relatively high number of restaurants in Bronxville, they stand out by serving solid food in an interesting, comfortable atmosphere. read more

Always passed by here and wanted to try it, I'm So glad we finally did. Came for a late lunch/early dinner on Sunday. We prefer to sit outside because of COVID. They gave us a spot in the courtyard and we had the whole area to ourselves. There were many heat lamps and also gave us blankets for our legs to keep warm. The complimentary bread and white bean dip was an amazing start. We got the octopus and polenta cakes. Both amazing. Great portion for the price. Super fresh and delicious. I ordered the cavatelli with shrimp and lobster and it was exactly what I wanted. Fresh seafood, home made pasta and a light sauce. My grandmother always made homemade cavatelli when I was younger and it reminded me of hers. My partner got the cannelloni with truffle sauce. It was a little heavy for me but he loved it. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the grilled rock shrimp, burrata, and crab arancini for appetizers. All appetizers were delicious. The entrees of spaghetti carbonara and agnolotti "cacio e pere" were great too. The carbonara was a tad bland, but still good. The agnolotti "cacio e pere" was phenomenal. Bronxville is one of those towns that I never knew existed. It is a cozy little town with a bustling main street filled with different shops and restaurants. Scalini osteria is one of those places. It is a cool little restaurant right off the main drag in town. It is a fancier place but we came for lunch. They have some lunch items but it is on the pricier side for lunch. They had one of the weirdest items I have seen. The nutella short rib... interesting. Not my style. I also tried the duomo pannini which had chicken cutlet, sun dried tomatoes, and some other items. It was ok but a little too much bread. The place wasn't too busy for lunch so you won't have a problem getting in. It would be nicer to sit outside but we came when it was freezing. I had just come back to my hotel from Long Island where I was battling humanity on the Long Island Distressway all day to get to work sites..the return trip crossed the Throgs Neck Bridge without issue and my hotel was a mile from Scalini. Bronxville when I was in college had citizens that resembled those of Darien CT (genetically thin blonde haired country clubbers who were culturally void despite living so close to NYC).. Scalini on the other hand seems like the outcrop of the Yonkers/Arthur Ave folks who added some culinary creativity (and quite frankly a pulse...). Scalini is absolutely beautiful...old world stone exterior w a patio for al fresco dining. Since it's March I was at the bar... Despite sitting next to a very uptight passive aggressive slightly neurotic investment banker...the bartender and the couple to the left of me were delightful. Talked fishing w the bartender amidst a beautifully prepared heritage pork chop w vinegar and peppers..and polenta. Hudson Valley rye Mahattan (ok I had two..) and a creme brulee (yes I slept well). The location probably gets a lot of the Metro North crowd...easy walk from the train. Bronxville is charming village...Scalini Osteria is an absolute gem. read more

Another great restaurant that I've walked by hundreds of times without ever trying it out. Well, last night my wife and I had the pleasure of dining there and we will definitely be back. The dining excellence started with making reservations. The hostess was one of the most wonderful human beings I've had the pleasure of speaking with. She asked if there was a special occasion for my wife and I. I told her that me wife is on vacation and we'd love to make reservations there. She gladly gave us options. When we arrived there, she remembered me and pronounced my first and last name so eloquently and friendly and said that she had a special table for us. Wow, the table was in a romantic section and the servers greeted us warmly. We had the grilled octopus appetizer and the cheese board. My wife had the lasagna and I had the Bronzino with asparagus. Both dishes were delicious as well as their Sauvignon Blanc. I highly recommend this place for their ambiance, service and food excellence. This wonderful restaurant is also situated in Bronxville, which is a location which hopefully I'll reside there in the future . I can't wait to come back for dinner again. read more
