Oh, geez! What's left to say? If you love cookies, you're in NYC, and you've never tried Schmackary's, something is CLEARLY wrong with you! My husband loves cookies, while I'm just dating cookies. I mean, I don't love them, or even like them really. Sweets are just "too" sweet for me, typically. So...me and cookies...well, we just date a few times per year. I went to first base with his Choconut Chip cookie, but that really got me going so I continued on to second base with his Classic Chocolate Chip. I can't even express how good these were, and for only $2.75 each, well, the price was really reasonable. Stopped in my way to Port Authority tonight. I tried really, really hard to be objective. The different flavors were cool: maple bacon; bacon chocolate chip; green tea, etc. The cookies themselves aren't bad, I'm just used to Insomnia so I'm biased. Compelled to write a review because Yelp is always mentioning how many times I have checked in here. Obviously, that means I like the place, right? Schmackary cookies are good.Good enough that the store is almost always crowded by people trying to get their sweet fix of the day. Despite this, the staff is never grumpy and are always willing to please. I do like their cookies; they have a slight cake-like consistency. However, be warned. Depending on the cookie you choose, you may be in for a massive sugar shock because a lot of their specialty cookies have a thick layer of frosting on top. I REALLY recommend their corn cookie or any of their rice krispie treats. I'm rarely disappointed with Schmackary's but that's probably because their treats have put me in a sugar-induced coma. :) . read more

We walked in after dragging ourselves out of Yum Yum down the street and we were on the prowl for dessert. We saw this place was still open so we decided to explore. Surprisingly crowded on a Saturday night, we had to compete for seats against 10-15 other people. The day-old cookies were the winner here for me. DO NOT miss this place if you're in the area. I'm a sucker for cookies and therefore have extremely high standards when it comes to giving a cookie place 5 stars, so trust me on this one. This does for cookies what Magnolia does for cupcakes. I was drawn in by the exterior (giant cookie, old-fashioned writing, chalkboard outside) and of course was not disappointed. First time I went I opted for the classic chocolate chip which came perfectly warm and not too sweet. My other favorites are the red velvet (what you would expect), funfetti (VERY sweet, tastes like a cupcake), and the maple bacon (a must-have). On a different occasion I picked up cookies for a friend's birthday and it was pouring rain so I was definitely worried about them getting crushed in a regular bag stuffed in my purse. Not at Schmackary's - they have these cute little cardboard carrying cases that fit 8 cookies perfectly, and I was able to travel 10 blocks in the rain. They have a great variety of other unique cookies and I'm pretty sure they're as good as the ones I've tried. Oh my good-ness. I need to open a place like Schmackary's on the West Coast. This place is a cookie lover foodie's heaven. Located conveniently in Hell's Kitchen, which could be a good or very bad thing, they have a variety of cookies you won't find anywhere else and their cookies vary depending on what they bake that day. They do have a handy calendar on their website so you can see what they are baking each day. =) We scored the bonus of coming in shortly before closing where they were selling the last few cookies as a buy 3 get 1 free deal. Or at least that's what I remember before going into a sugar coma from the Sch'mores cookie I opted for. The Sch'mores cookie has the toasted marshmallow baked onto the top of the large cookie which is a honey graham base and semi-sweet chocolate chips throughout. Ridiculous. I will admit it was too sweet without some milk or coffee to cut it but it was all delicious. And should the cookie not be enough for you, you can choose cookies and make it an ice cream cookie sandwich with vanilla bean gelato in the middle. Mind blown, yes? Anyway, should you find yourself in Hell's Kitchen and have a hankering for a really great cookie treat, I highly recommend stopping in to Schmackary's. read more

You can also buy milk here (much appreciated). Know that there is very little chance you will get a seat here, as the shop often has a line out the door and it's a hole-in-the-wall. Unique and definitely tasty, but I just wasn't feeling the Schmackary's hype. Each cookie had a nice texture, with a slight crisp at the edge. I tried 3 of their flavors: - Chocolate chip: good, but not outstanding, even when freshly-baked. The sea salt was a nice touch, but a little overpowering at times. Wish I could have gotten stronger chocolate flavors. As mentioned in previous reviews, there was an interesting flavor that I could not pin down... - Chunky monkey: also very good, but the banana was a bit too sweet and overshadowed the chocolate and walnut elements in the cookie. - Maple bacon: this one was my favorite! So creative, maple-y yet smokey - a winning combination! Their coffee was also decent, but I don't know if ~$9 for 3 cookies and a coffee was quite justified... Might return to try some different flavors, but I think it would be better for a special occasion or the like (actually, most of the customers I saw during my visit were picking-up pre-ordered boxes, so it must be a popular idea!). read more

The choc chip had a little salty taste that I really enjoyed; similar to how salt really compliments salted caramel ice cream or dark chocolate with sea salt. The s'mores had a nice burnt flavor; I love burning my marshmallows to achieve that exact flavor. I think it would've been nice to have them served warm though. Schmackary's is such a sweet little cookie shop! This is not the kind of place that you would just run into (it was right around a corner off a main street so if we hadn't known about Schmackary's, we never would've seen it). It's a tiny little place so it's kind of easy to miss if you're not from New York.If you're lucky, you can snag a seat at one of the few high top tables in the store (we were lucky enough to get a seat!), otherwise you'll be taking your sweets to go. But my boyfriend and I were at a bar and I had taken out a little bag of macaroons that I had bought earlier that day. Our waitress noticed the macaroons and said "If you are a big cookie fan like me, then you HAVE to try Schmackary's before you go home!" She told us exactly how to find it and we went there twice that weekend! We tried the chocolate pretzel cookie, the cookie dough cookie, chocolate diablo, and ginger rogers. My favorite was the chocolate diablo cookie because it has such a decadent deep chocolate flavor with a hint of spiciness - so unique! All of the cookie flavors were superb and very well developed. The cookies themselves are quite large and slightly crunchy yet still soft and chewy. The prices are very reasonable for a specialty cookie shop and though we didn't try the brownies, they looked absolutely amazing. Definitely stop in Schmackary's and give it a try! read more

Simply delicious! I and a friend were in the area having dinner and this spot happened to have been the closest sweet spot. A busy place with great cookie, hot beverage and apparel options. Eager staff minus the smiles. I ordered the Maple Bacon cookie(sinful and spot-on), hot chocolate(average) and a shot of espresso for my friend. We sat at a small table inside and by the window just watching the droves of people coming in for their confection fix. The line gains quickly but subside just as fast. He teased me when I just wanted one, "But I brought out the whole tray just for you!" SO cute!
