My husband's been a big fan of their Black Forrest cake since he was a little boy, and now he's going through chemotherapy weekly so I walk over to Schubert's and pick up a box of assorted pastries, and treats so that he has something to look forward to for several days. The women behind the counter are delightful, helpful, and always add one extra item that I would never think to try band. It is always wonderful. Our top favorites are: black forest cake; the fruit tart; the berry tart; the eclairs; and, the strawberry shortcake--it so light and so fresh--oh my gosh. Also, the raspberry cake, and these puffs that I wish I remember the name of, but they're very very light and dusted on top with a little bit of powdered sugar--not too sweet wonderful treat. It's super friendly delicious place that has become the highlight of our week. I haven't tried any cookies yet, but stay tuned for my review of those. read more

The best and delightful pastry, cake bakery in the neighborhood of Inner Richmond in San Francisco. Opened in 1911 and you can expect delightful cakes, high quality pastries! Price is reasonable! There's whole cakes from small to larger, individual slices, cookies, tarts and more! They have ready to go cute small boxes of different sizes, very convenient for gifting. Staff and good quality are both 5 stars! They can write names on top of cakes best for gifting. Shortbread cookies are a must have! Very clean place, team have neat uniforms and they've recently added 3 indoor tables and chairs. I've purchased many cakes from Schubert's over the years, and their cakes are always beautifully decorated. They even add complimentary personalized writing on a piece of chocolate to top your cake. My family's favorite cakes are St. Honore, Swedish Princess, Strawberry Shortcake, and Mango Mousse. Schubert's shortbread cookies are delicious and available in various flavors. I particularly enjoy the peppermint one available in December. They even offer a decent pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving! The bakery's display case is usually well-stocked with cakes, but to ensure they don't run out of the one you want, it's best to order ahead. This is easy to do on their website, or you can give them a call. Please note that the bakery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Customer service is always wonderful, and they've been accommodating for special requests. read more

Tried some of the famous Schubert's desserts today. Everything was delicious. The cakes and mousses were light and fluffy. The chocolate was decadent and super rich. Worth every penny for a professional dessert for events, reasonable prices for the individual desserts. Worth going back again for some of the other desserts. read more

They have a delicious princess cake that I've been lucky enough to have a couple of times for a birthday and baby shower. The cake is moist and not too sweet, but still a good amount of sweet. The outside crispy texture and moist inside with the filling is something very unique and so perfect about the cake. Definitely would come back here and try their other offerings. read more

I can't recommend this bakery any higher. They are easily the best bakery in San Francisco. As the son of European immigrants and someone who lived in Europe for years himself, this is the only bakery I've been to who can replicate great European pastries. Their cream puffs, napoleons, operas, and ganache are superb. I've literally never had a bad dessert from there. For my birthday we ordered an Opera cake from them. It was the BEST birthday cake I've ever had in my life. Not only was it absolutely gorgeous but it tasted amazing. The entire party couldn't believe how great it looked and tasted. I'm a lifelong schuberts fan who recently rediscovered their cakes. My parents used to get their cakes from Schubert's when I was a kid! As we got older, we stopped going here as often, and soon forgot about this place. I recently rediscovered it when I was looking for a bakery that had cakes for same day pickup on my commute from work. I ended up going there to pickup a friend's birthday cake, and grabbed a couple mini-cakes for my own and they didn't disappoint. Service there was quick and efficient, and packed the cakes so well. they kept them stored correctly since i placed the order that morning, and picked them up around 5pm, on my way home. read more

Love love, love love this place. I drive all the way here from Concord every year for my birthday to get a princess cake and a few extra treats. Their moose cakes, tiramisu, and shortbread cookies are other favorites of mine. Everything I've had from here is delicious. It's located on a busy street that I've been told is new Chinatown. Lots of fun shops and affordable places to get dumplings or housewares or Boba. Staff is nice. A little on the pricey side, but it's a treat so who cares! read more

An update. The cookies are now back on my go to list to give as gifts to the pilots and crew on long 16hr flights. They come individually wrapped and are now back to the buttery amazingly tasty original owners quality, as are the cakes. Love this bakery! My bf's family introduced me to this bakery and we've gotten cakes here for multiple occasions. Mango mousse cake is delicious and we just tried the strawberry shortcake and we're fans! Service is quick and friendly. I came end of day literally 5 minutes before closing and there were still 4 cakes left lucky me! The strawberry shortcake was surprisingly heavy in weight and when we cut into it we found out why - it is loaded with strawberries inside. And on top there's already a lot of fruit. Love the edible chocolate decorations. The cake itself is light and not too sweet. The workers are very nice with writing whatever you want on the cake and it's written well. schubert is literally my childhood and i grew up eating schubert's and what a privilege that is. for people who love fruit based tarts, mousses, or cheesecake, to classic chocolate based stuff, i feel like schubert's has never gone down in quality and they have such a large range or variety. there is nothing bad to say about them, i love y'all. service is usually pretty good, though waiting in line kinda sux and can be time consuming. i love how in my 20+ years of life, the interior has never changed. ALSO they sometimes give freebies and do discounts when it's later in the day/ they wanna close with the least amount of waste as possible. for freebs, i once got a mini cake, and the other day my companion got their cream puff as a gift (SO SO GOOD MUST GET THE CREAM PUFF/ recommend) i always love their cheesecake and mousses, i'm a sucker for their strawberry or mango cheesecakes or mousses and my companion love their fruit tarts because they just do not cheap out!! they give hella fruits and esp cus it's summer, the fruits are so sweet. i definitely want to try their non cake related stuff like their cookies, pastries, etc on the right side. i felt like i never really considered that when i go to schubert's cus i just always got their cakes haha read more

Visiting SF, loving the food, and the princess cake is the first letdown of the trip. It's an absolute fake and such a disappointment. I came to Schubert's specifically for the princess cake. I'm an experienced home cook and baker. This cake is made of cool whip! There is no real dairy here! The marzipan is purchased. The sponge cake itself is like any grocery store cake. The kirsch flavor is missing; all I taste is a sweet syrup. Who actually likes this fake version of the princess cake? Even my kids don't like it. Skip Schubert's and spend your money at bakeries that use real ingredients. We are tossing the uneaten half in the trash can. I wish I could get my money back. read more

My brother told me about Schubert's as his wife really enjoys their cookies. I could totally see why. I tried the shortbread with blueberry and it was fantastic :) They have nice assortment boxes and the one go to is for $14.50 with three different types of cookies. They make wonderful gifts. The service is always wonderful and friendly. I've got to try their other pastries and cakes. I'll definitely be back :) read more

Schubert's bakery is absolutely delicious. It is one of my family's go to spots for getting any celebratory cakes. For mom mom's birthday this year we got the strawberry shortcake and it was divine! The buttercream frosting was perfectly whipped and fluffy while not being overly sweet. In addition, every single layer was packed with berry goodness with strawberries and strawberry cream. The team even went above and beyond and added a white chocolate decadent sign saying happy birthday atop the cake. I cannot recommend schubert's more highly! read more

"Prinsesstårta!" My Swedish neighbor George exclaimed when I told him I bought a Princess cake from Shubert's Bakery to celebrate what would've been my father's 84th birthday. Light, airy, not-too-sweet cake similar to Asian cakes sandwiched with a thick layer of buoyant cream and thin ribbons of raspberry jam, topped with perfectly smooth marzipan fondant: Sublime. We shared with George - and his two Goldens Elsa and Torbjörn (Swedish for "Thunderbear"). They licked the plate and passed out; I came close to doing the same from sheer bliss. I appreciated how neat and clean the entire place was, especially the preparation area. It's behind glass so you can see everything. I bought a fruit tart and it was assembled beautifully with fresh strawberries and kiwi. The crust was firm, not soggy, and had a nice buttery flavor. Schuberts have been my to-go for years! I love their fruit tarts and mousse cakes. Everything is always well executed. When you order a cake, they usually give you a couple samples of their cookies which is nice. Be prepared to pay an extra fee for a plastic bag for your cakes! I would bring my own or carry it as is. I do miss their old cake packaging where you can get a sneak peek of the cake inside. Now, it's a full cardboard box but I'm sure that's cheaper to produce and easier to recycle. 5/5 and will come back annually :) read more

It ended up taking us over two hours to get our pastries, and by the time we reached the front, some items had already sold out. This time, we decided to arrive right when the line opened at 7:45am on a Friday. Personally, I'd rather get there early, wait a little over an hour, and have the first pick of pastries than arrive later, wait even longer, and risk missing out on items. We were the third party in line and placed our order around 9:05am. By 9:15am, we had our pastries and drinks. After our first visit, I wasn't completely convinced the wait was worth it. The pastries were good, but the long line and wait time didn't feel justified. This visit, however, may have changed my mind. We ordered: * Madame Lorraine * Chorizo & Tot Croquiche * Morty P * Strawberry Vanilla Bean Bun * Pistachio Cardamom Sugar Croissant * Rocky Road Double Chocolate Cookie * Classic Croissant We also got two drinks: the S'mores Mocha and the Cherry Vanilla Almond Cappuccino. Don't skip their drinks, their specialty coffees are just as creative as their pastries. I really appreciate their rotating menu. Their pastries are always so creative, and I love that they experiment with unique flavor combinations that you don't typically see at a bakery. Some items are definitely more memorable than others, but I enjoy that there's always something new to try. Their pastries are well executed. The croissants are flaky and buttery. This visit, my personal favorite was the Chorizo & Tot Croquiche. Overall, this visit was a much better experience than my first. If you're willing to wait in line, I think it's worth checking out. Otherwise, you can always try your luck with their Hotplate presale.

Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.

Overall, Juniper has excellent pastries, and I'll definitely be sure to grab a plain croissant next time to try it out as well - some pastries pack a bit more flavor than others but given how quickly the like moves I'll definitely be back again to try some of their othering offerings soon!

I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me.
