Schu's is a good spot to go for lunch are dinner. The American style menu is good for groups, family dinner, and dates. I went there after a day of relaxing at the beach, sun drenched and ready for a good meal to begin the night. There was no waitress at the stand, so we waited...when nobody came over to seat us, I gently got the attention of the person behind the bar- who then called someone. Our waitress was nice. The hostess told us there was nothing outside and then proceeded to seat us inside. Looking outside it was obvious that there were 2 tables open, one of which was large enough for our party. In addition, there was absolutely no greeting or smile .... And this is the hostesses mind you. When asked if she would greet us with a smile next tim, she gritted her teeth and said sure. Schus is a great place to take the family or do a couples night out. The atmosphere is really cool with great views of the lake; you feel welcomed, surrounded by good people in a cozy setting. Service is always great, drinks are served fast and the food is outstanding. Highlights for my family are the Path of Life Bowl, Burgers, French Dip, Spinach Dip, any of the salads. I wanted to take my wife out somewhere different for her birthday so we took a little longer drive to St. Joseph for a change of pace. We were there on Wednesday about 6 & were seated within a couple minutes. The restaurant was located within view of Lake Michigan & we had a nice window table. Being vegetarians, Kayla C our server was friendly and helpful as she was very familiar with their menu. We really liked the spinach artichoke appetizer, it was very cheesy and delicious. We had the quesadilla with Impossible burger, with mashed potato/sweet potato side dish. They were both tasty and fresh. Thumbs up to Kayla, she did a great job taking time to check on our table without being intrusive. She tipped us off where to finish our evening with a local ice cream spot. We came in on a Thursday night for their $5 fried chicken dinner special. It was special. The $5 fried chicken dinner comes two pieces of chicken mash potatoes and coleslaw. They had very friendly service and the food is delicious. I was pleased with my fried chicken meal with a crispy salty tasty juicy drumstick and thigh fried chicken. I had to slowly eat to savor the chicken. I also though their mash potatoes covered in a savory chicken gravy was really legit. Their side coleslaw was very nice too not overly creamy sauce a light vinegar dressing it was nice. We also got to try their lovely lemon cake, very lemony and delicious! read more

After racing across the lake Friday night and taking a nap on the boat we were searching for some breakfast. Stopped in at Schu's after being told they were a great breakfast place only to discover, as our server put it, "the kitchen staff is so "over" breakfast they have moved on to lunch" at least 15 min before the official change over. Big bummer as that was the reason we were there. Well we ordered off their lunch menu which was your standard fare of sandwiches, burgers etc. nothing exceptional but not bad just an average sandwich. No one raved about their meal and no on complained. Service... I have had better. Perhaps it was the crush of having 90 boats pull in from Chicago after racing all night looking for some good food that overwhelmed them, not sure. read more

The service was excellent!! All the staff helped out and cleared things from our table and checked on us as they walked by. Our server Brandi was fantastic!!! And all the servers around us were great with their tables. Great atmosphere! Even the bartender came out to see how my martini was. The ahi was delicious! The jambalaya was soooo good!!! Well its July 3rd and the town is packed with visitors . Thought this place would be packed . Far from it . Was like a retirement home. Food was average and over priced.menu was dated. Had a perch sandwich and fries for 10.95 I've had better fish sandwiches from McDonalds . So far i have had perch sandwiches at every restaurant in town and The Buck has the best over all for flavor and price and the business is hoping. Sorry But I've spent my last penny here. read more

Drinks are great!!!! We ordered Tropical mule, long island ice tea, and a margarita and the drinks were strong and perfect!!! We sampled calamari. I called them and girl who answered phone argued with me about how they make it each day and would not use expired product. She agreed to credit me but never did. Will not eat in there again. I had the Vegan Burger (Impossible Burger) but when you order the burger it comes with cheese. Evidently they don't know vegans don't eat cheese. I had the quinoa side dish and for 4 dollars it has a good taste but the portion side was a joke. The $13 dollar price was expensive for what you got. I'm not impressed with the taste of the Vegan Burger. The burger is made to look like a cow hamburger with the red blood on the inside. If I wanted my Vegan Burger to look like a cow burger I would of got a salad instead. The Nugget in Niles, MI has the best vegan burger around plus the taste is wonderful. It's made with all natural Ingriedents. The service was excellent but I didn't care for the food or the price. read more

The wife and I came here to eat after the drive across the state. We were sat outside very fast and the server took our drink order right away. We ordered two beers and one of the beers only filled the glass 3/4 full before the keg ran out. She still gave me the beer on the house and took down another order for a different beer. The glasses were clean and water were filled when empty. We also ordered some chicken nachos. I thought they were good. Not the best I've had but pretty good. Stop by Shu's for lunch on a Tuesday. My wife had the Mediterranean Pasta with grilled chicken and I had the Turkey Panini Club they were both very good. She had the Key Lime Pie Martini which she said was yummy. In the past I've had the "house made" Black Bean Burger and it is very good as well. We were in St. Joseph this past weekend, and were looking for someplace for a late lunch. We saw Schu's Grill and Bar...and I was in the mood for bar food, so we wandered in. If you're looking for a dive bar, this isn't it. Actually, I found the service (and attitude of the server) to be quite pretentious. If that's your "thing", you'll love this place, but it wasn't quite what I expected. That said, the food was pretty darned good...I'd give the food alone 3 (or maybe a bit more) stars. I had the pulled pork and it was EXCELLENT...nice, smoky flavor and a generous portion. The fries were just so so. Our waitress never stopped by the table to check on our meal, nor did sh offer any drink refills. The food was good. But, based on the service, I'll choose someplace else next time I'm in St. Joseph. read more

Have to say there were more negatives than positives here. LONG wait, I'm pretty sure we got skipped over as I had to ask the hostesses when we were up next and they asked what name I used (just after I told them). We were then called immediately. I suspect this place is so popular due to the lack of options. Seems like many restaurants in the area have closed, at least according to the info the local hotels (Hampton Inn and Marriott Courtyard) provide. Chose to sit outside, but probably not a good idea, given the sun sets on that side. Still very warm and not shaded. As for the food & drink, we had a couple of Bell's beers at the bar. When we were seated, I ordered one of the seafood chowders and a shrimp flatbread, along with a glass of Pinot Grigio. The flatbread was better than the chowder, but had more too much pineapple and carrots for my taste. My husband had the walleye and enjoyed it. read more
